Jim Ross Blog: The Best Match From RAW, Cesaro vs. Kingston, The Shield

19

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with his thoughts on Monday’s WWE RAW from Newark, New Jersey. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

Best Match Of The Night: “@WWESheamus vs. @HEELZiggler was the best match of the night. Certainly one of the better free, TV bouts that I’ve seen in a good while. If I had to pick 10 guys to start a new roster, these two would be on that list. Ziggler had an MVP like night and my only concern is his body holding up considering the athletic hell it endures on a regular basis. Dolph’s the kind of guy that has one basic pace and that’s all out. Sooner than later Ziggler will realize that more often than not that less is more is more than a often used wrestling Cliche.”

The Shield “Thought @TheShield innovative promo that they taped themselves was well done. Promos don’t have to be a mini series in length to get the message across in today’s short attention span society. Nice job by the three new men who I’ve seen a great deal of in NXT. They get to live their dream Sunday night on PPV at TLC in Brooklyn. I’d watch if only for that reason.”

Antonio Cesaro vs. Kofi Kingston: “Thought U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro vs. IC Kofi Kingston had a really nice bout. Cesaro has that WWE HOFer Johnny Valentine quality of being a methodical starter of a match, being extremely solid and fundamentally sound, and exuding toughness. JV always took more time that most main eventers to get himself established but when he ‘hit’ he was entrenched where the promoter’s wanted and needed him to be. In today’s acrobatic, faster paced than needed world of wrestling, some fans who have never seen the art form of the business played out ala Johnny Valentine, etc will hopefully stay engaged with Cesaro who I think is a future, main event star. @AntonioCesaro is another keeper and building block for WWE. ”

WWE RAW Results From Newark, NJ (December 10, 2012)

22

WWE RAW Results: Monday, December 10th, 2012

RAW opens up with a video package looking back at the destruction that The Shield has been delivering over the past few weeks – and whether their actions led to Punk getting injured last week and the new 6-man TLC main event. Plus – a recap of the John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler’s feud and AJ Lee & Vickie Guerrero’s involvement.

Inside the arena, Dolph Ziggler is introduced and he’s already in the middle of the ring at the top of a ladder. Ziggler says he’s right where he belongs – on top. He’s here to talk about two numbers 6 and 15. 6 days until TLC, 15 days until Christmas. For John Cena, TLC and Christmas are the same, because after Cena cashed in his MITB contract and lost. Santa Clause, aka Mr. McMahon, has forced him to put his MITB briefcase on the line. Ziggler tells Cena this won’t be a Merry Christmas and he’s going to be the coal in Cena’s stocking. This Sunday, he’s going to beat Cena once and for all. Then, he’s going to cash in contract, defeat the Big Show for the World Heavyweight title and go on to become the greatest World Heavyweight champion of all time.

Sheamus’ music hits and we see that the walkway from the ramp to ringside is full of tables, ladders & chairs. Video clip from SmackDown of Big Show & Sheamus’ contract signing. Sheamus tells Ziggler, congratulations, yu’re finally taller than everybody. He tells Ziggler he won’t be cashing in his MITB briefcase to face Big Show, he’ll be facing him, because he’s going to beat Big Show this Sunday at TLC. However, he doesn’t think Ziggler can beat Cena this Sunday – and he thinks down the line, it’s going to be Sheamus vs. John Cena for the World Heavyweight title. Out comes Big Show, who says “Blah blah blah blah blah Boring” and impersonates Sheamus & Ziggler. Big Sow says he wants to punch Sheamus in his ugly, immigrant Irish face. Show talks more trash to Sheamus about their match at TLC. Sheamus pushes Ziggler off the ladder, Ziggler briefly gets crotched on the ropes and then falls to the floor outside. Mr. McMahon is shown walking backstage.

Tonight’s Main Event: John Cena vs. World Heavyweight Champion Big Show.

Rollins Stones PPV promo for Saturday night.

Back at ringside, US Champion Antonio Cesaro is on commentary with Michael Cole as Wade Barrett stands in the ring with his music playing … NO CHANCE … Mr. McMahon’s music hits. He comes out and struts his stuff. Vince hypes tonight’s main event and calls out the person responsible for making the match, Vickie Guerrero. Out comes Vickie and McMahon tells her to make a bow. Vince says the only thing bigger than one main event is two. Vickie is clueless and Vince says, how about Sheamus in the match. Vickie is still stumped. Vince whispers in her ear and she screams, “Dolph Ziggler?!” The match is made. Vince says – we need another main event. Vickie says how about AJ Lee in a handicap match. Vince takes it under consideration and says her opponent will be .. the crowd chants “Vickie! Vickie!” Vince looks at her and says let’s make this truly monumental – Vickie vs. AJ is booked. Vince calls out R-Truth.

Wade Barrett vs. R-Truth: Wade Barrett in control for most of the match. R-Truth makes a comeback, but Barrett hits him with a nasty mule kick to the stomach that the crowd popped big for. R-Truth gets the surprise roll-up win. After the match, R-Truth argues his opponent at TLC, Antonio Cesaro. Kofi Kingston jumps onto the apron, climbs the top rope and hits Wade Barrett.

Next up, a 4-team Fatal 4 Way match to determine the #1 contenders to WWE’s Tag Team titles. The teams are The Usos vs. Team Rhodes Scholars (even though Cody is injured) vs. Primo & Epico vs. The Prime Time Players.

Did You Know – WWE’s Attitude Era DVD is the top selling Sports DVD.

Backstage, AJ Lee bumps into Aksana and is excited for her match. They walk together and asks her if Cena knows yet. She bumps into Kaitlyn and rants more about how excited she is for the match & to tell Cena about it. She goes into Cena’s locker room and several wrestlers are hanging out in there and they all freak out. Cena covers AJ’s view because apparently there were naked wrestlers in there. While AJ is talking, Cena keeps mouthing to the other wrestlers, “Sorry!!” In the ring are the first 3 teams. Damien Sandow’s music hits and out come the Rhodes Scholars. Michael Cole is impressed how Cody returned from his torn trap injury after only 4 weeks.

#1 Contender’s Match: The Usos vs. Team Rhodes Scholars vs. Primo & Epico vs. The Prime Time Players.

Epico & one of the Uso’s start off. Back and forth action, Uso tags in his brother. Two double team elbow strikes on Epico. WWE.com now up asking fans who should be the #1 contenders – and the Uso’s are currently winning. Tag move by Primo & Epico on Uso’s and now Primo is in control. Some more action and one of the Uso’s hits a top rope splash on Epico and eliminates their team. Back from the break, the Uso’s eliminated the Prie Tie Players with some impressive offense, including a superkick and a another top rope splash. Two teams remain. Damien Sandow in the ring with Jay Uso. Back and forth action. Sandow tags inCody, who unloads on Uso. The crowd is chanting “Cody’s Mustache” and Cole says he’s sure it will be trending worldwide soon. Sandow tagged back in and hits several moves (including the Elbow of Disdain) on Uso and gets a 2 count. Cody tagged back in and he is looking good. Uso throws Cody off him and tags in his brother. Uso cleans house and the pace is picking up. Uso goes off the top rope but Sandow knocks him off. He goes for it again, but Cody gets his knees up. Cody hits uso with Cross Roads and gets the pinfall. Great match with the Uso’s and Sandow/Rhodes looking like championship caliber teams.

Winners & #1 Contenders to the WWE Tag Titles: Team Rhodes Scholars

The #1 contender’s celebrate after the match.

Next Monday night – the WWE Slammy Awards – and they’ll be RAWActive.

WWE Divas Champion Eve Torres vs. Alicia Fox

Solid action, as Michael Cole talks about tonight’s main event and anything else besides the match in the ring. Lawler tells him to shut up, he wants to watch the Divas. Cole talks about how the WWE Divas website has been redesigned, where you can see classic divas while ignoring the ones on the screen right now. Alicia Fox looked good with her offense but Eve got the win by pinfall. After the match, Eve gets the ringside photographer to come into the ring and photograph her as she poses over the fallen Alicia Fox.

Backstage, WWE Champion CM Punk is shown on crutches with Paul Heyman carrying the WWE title behind him.

Justin Roberts introduces the WWE Champion, CM Punk. Out come Punk on crutches and Heyman, with a microphone. Punk says there are people who think his injury is fake and that he never had surgery. Paul Heyman is holding the WWE title above his head and gazing into space. Punk says this is real and this is what happens when you’re WWE Champion for 388 grueling days. Punk shows video footage of how he was injured last week, when Ryback destroyed him at the end of RAW. Crowd chants Feed Me More. Paul Heyman tells the crowd they are ticking him off. Heyman says “How Dare You?” chant “Feed Me More” at the WWE Champion. Punk is a rtrue champion and got injured last week. He didn’t have a stunt double like The Rock. He’s not sitting in a movie trailer somewhere that calls in a stunt double when it’s time to do business. Punk is standing before the crowd – The Rock was too busy to be there and only shows up when he wants. Punk remains the reigning, defending WWE Champion and is the Best in the World. Punk addresses the ‘vocal minority’ that are calling for the title to be vacated. Ryback wasn’t even smart enough to keep the champion healthy until their match so he could win the belt. The Rock will fail like all of his challengers have. He’ll be at TLC this Sunday to watch The Shield – “Who I am NOT affiliated with” – do to Ryback what Ryback did to him last week.

Cole and Lawler go over the new 6-man tag match main event.

Up next: Sheamus vs. Ziggler.

Tribute To The Troops promo.

Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler

Sheamus out first, then Zigglerl. Sheamus in control for the opening minutes. Ziggler tries fighting back but Sheamus hits him with several offensive moves. The crowd is chanting “Let’s Go Ziggler!” Every time Ziggler gets in a strike or two, Sheamus levels him with punches, kicks and power moves.
