Bully Ray Talks About Him & Devon Getting Initiated In WWE By JBL & Ron Simmons

16

TNA star Bully Ray appeared on Sam Roberts’ Sirius XM satellite radio show on Thursday morning and spoke about being initiated in WWE by JBL, Ron Simmons and Vince McMahon.”When me and Devon first got to WWE, they thought that they were going to have a real problem with us because there was another tag team that had come in from ECW that left a real bad taste in people’s mouth and they were The Public Enemy… They went there and they had really, really bad attitudes…

“When me and Devon were going to come in, they were probably thinking to themselves in WWE that these guys are even more successful than The Public Enemy, these guys are the It tag team in ECW, they’re going to be ten times worse. That wasn’t the case at all. The minute we got there we got put in the ring with Ron Simmons and Bradshaw. We just beat the shit out of each other. We took it as good as we could give it and everything was fine. It was a smooth transition. We got along well with everybody and we had a great six year run there…

“Bradshaw told me a story years later. I actually had a singles match with him on either Raw or Smackdown. I had gone to the ring. Just as Bradshaw was about to go to the ring, Vince McMahon pulled him on the side and said, ‘Beat the shit out of this kid, let’s see what he’s got.’ Bradshaw came to the ring and he started laying into me and I started laying into him just as hard. There were are two beasts punching each other just about as hard as you can. All of a sudden we just sort of realized what was going on, and then we went right back to entertaining the people… Afterwards, he told me that he went up to Vince McMahon and said, ‘These boys are going to be just fine.'”

“He had his guys for that. He had Ron and John. If he wanted somebody else for that he would use Bob Holly. Then again, me Bradshaw, and Bob Holly got lumped into the big bully clique. We would bully all the young guys, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’ve never bullied one person in wrestling. I will impose my will as a businessman on them, but I will not bully them.”

Kurt Angle Reveals When He Plans To Retire From Wrestling, Kid Kash’s TNA Departure Confirmed

I think I’ll be done and once I retire, you’re not going to see me back in a ring again, that’s for sure,” said the 44-year-old grappler. “I’m not going to be a guy that retires and keeps coming back. When I’m gone, I’m gone. Same thing as amateur wrestling; when I won the world championships in Olympics, I left and I never went back. Same for pro.”

Angle also discussed TNA’s UK tour thus far, British Boot Camp, King Mo, memories of his career and more. The audio interview is available here.

– Kid Kash is no longer affiliated with TNA Wrestling, company sources confirmed to PWInsider.com. His profile was removed from the roster page of ImpactWrestling.com on Wednesday, with the veteran wrestler subsequently claiming on Twitter that he’s still affiliated with the company.

John Cena Talks About CM Punk vs. The Rock, His Off-Camera Relationship With The Rock & More

38

John Cena was interviewed by AZCentral.com this week to hype Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Royal Rumble: “It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. Winning the Royal Rumble is as big an accomplishment as anything … Believe it or not, I like the Rumble. It’s extremely unpredictable and over-the-top. Everyone in the WWE universe looks forward to it. It becomes that one event each year where people center around.”

His Prediction for CM Punk vs. The Rock: “I’m torn,” he said. “CM Punk has been champion for quite a long time now, but I know from my past instances with Dwayne Johnson that he’s very difficult to beat.”

If His Feud With The Rock Affected Their Relationship Off Camera: “A lot more than people would think,” said Cena. “People think it’s one big happy family, but attitude and egos do get in the way.”

Kofi Kingston Replies To Article Saying He Was Mentored By The Rock

7

Kofi Kingston spoke with AZCentral.com this week to promote Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. The title of the article reads, “Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson mentors WWE’s Kofi Kingston,” but Kofi says AZCentral greatly exaggerated his comments about The Rock’s influence on his career.

In the article, Kofi stated:

“I met him when he first came back last year. He’s real cool. He had some advice for me, I had a chance to pick his brain a bit … I spoke to him about certain things about the business, just general questions about how he got to where he was. Obviously you see a guy like The Rock, you see his success, you want to know exactly – from his mind and his mouth – how he got there, because I want to emulate that. If you don’t want the success The Rock has had, then you probably shouldn’t be in the WWE.”

After seeing how his words were presented in the article, he tweeted the following:

“Ah, nothing like exaggeration in the media! Tell em that you received a piece of career advice, they print you’re being mentored! As honored as I would be were that the case, i must say, regrettably, it’s untrue!”

Original Plans For Dolph Ziggler’s Babyface Turn, More Reactions To Monday’s RAW

35

– The new WWE storyline where Ric Flair is mentoring The Miz and gave him the figure four leglock was actually meant for Dolph Ziggler. There were long standing plans that Ric Flair would manage Dolph Ziggler when Flair returned to WWE, but when WWE turned Del Rio babyface, the decision was made to hold off on turning Ziggler face.

– The general feeling in WWE is that Monday’s RAW was a weak “go home” show and that the hype for the 30-man Royal Rumble match was too little too late. John Cena in particular has gotten a ton of criticism for his strange promo at the end of the show. That said, CM Punk, Paul Heyman and The Rock were all praised for their stellar work hyping this Sunday’s WWE Championship match.

More On Why Alberto Del Rio Won The World Heavyweight Title

19

It’s been widely reported that WWE turned Alberto Del Rio babyface because the company needs a strong Latin hero to replace Rey Mysterio. One of the big reasons WWE decided to go full force with his babyface turn and put the World Heavyweight championship on him is because UFC just did a surprisingly huge pay-per-view buyrate when Mexican fighter Cain Velasquez defeated Junior Dos Santos for the UFC Heavyweight championship.

Del Rio’s title win came a week after the news Velasquez’ impressive drawing power and the timing of WWE’s decision is no coincidence.

As noted earlier this week, WWE is considering Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler at WrestleMania. Whether or not Del Rio is still champion by then remains to be seen.

Video Highlights From This Week’s WWE Main Event

The following videos are highlights from tonight’s edition of WWE Main Event:

Ryback Talks About His Character Evolving, His Friends In WWE & More

32

Ryback spoke to the College Times this week to hype Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

How much input he’s had in the evolution of his character:

“I was very vocal in that, actually. A lot of people don’t know that I was Ryback before I was Skip Sheffield down in the developmental territories. It was a name I came up with and created, as far as when I was away from the WWE. ‘Skip Sheffield’ was presented to me by Dusty Rhodes. It was something I don’t regret ever having happened because it did happen [and] that’s what got me to the WWE initially. I cannot tell you enough how glad I am to not be doing that right now. What you see now is me. I’m a very intense individual in real life in everything I do. I set goals and I attack them with the intensity you see on TV.”

Which title belt is he hungry for?

Right now, the WWE Championship and the Heavyweight Championship. I made my 2013 vision board, my goal board, and I have 13 goals for 2013 that are going to be accomplished. That is one of my main goals—becoming the WWE and World Heavyweight Champion. They’re both of equal importance to me.

Who his closest friends are in WWE:

“I get along with everyone to some degree. I travel alone, though, and Stone Cold Steve Austin always said, ‘Don’t trust anybody.’ He didn’t just say that to say that. I always say, there are sharks swimming with dolphins. There are a lot of sharks in the WWE. You gotta be wary of everybody. Wade Barrett, though, still to this day is one of my friends that I keep in contact with and talk to a lot up there, and Daniel Bryan, believe it or not, I tend to get along pretty well with. I’m not there to make friends. Razor Ramon/Scott Hall used to always say, ‘You can make money or you can make friends.’ I’m here to make as much money as possible and put out a great product for WWE and that’s my goal.”

Jimmy Snuka Interview: The Piper’s Pit Coconut Incident, Capt. Lou Albano, Bob Backlund & More

7

WWE Hall of Famer ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka joined Kayfabe Wrestling Radio Tuesday Night. In a nearly 30 minute interview, which you can listen to here (.MP3), he discussed how he got the ‘Snuka’ wrestling name, transitioned from bodybuilding into professional wrestling, wrestling in the pacific Northwest, coming through the territory system and meeting his future manager Captain Lou Albano, his feelings on soon to be WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backland, what the atmosphere was like when Vince Jr. took over the WWE in the 80’s, his famous moment flying off the steel cage at Madison Square Garden and how it is inspiring to many other wrestlers, his famous moment in Pipers Pit with the coconut, being ringside for Wrestlemania 1, the backstage feelings some may have had for Mr. T, the growth of Wrestlemania, being the first of the Undertaker’s Wrestlemania ‘Streak’, his kids being in wrestling and so much more.

Here are some highlights of what Snukka said about:

His time wrestling in the Pacific Northwest: “Yeah, brudda, When I came to the Pacific Northwest, it was a dream come true for me, you know? I wrestled there every Saturday and then, on the weekends, we drove all around Oregon. The weather was great and I loved it. My dreams were starting to fulfill and then getting to perform in from of people like that; I did so much and I learned so much from these old school guys, the old-timers. I was very lucky, to be there among them and learn what I have to do and what I’m not supposed to do. And I was very lucky because I got a lot of help from the old school guys, you know?”

His relationship with his manager Captain Lou Albamo: “Yeah, brudda, he did my bookings cause he and I were always together and the promoters would let us know where we were going and everything. You know, he was my leader; I’d listen and I don’t say nothing until he says, ‘Ok, you can talk now’. But he was such an awesome guy, to be with him and god bless him he’s in heaven now. The great thing about it was he taught me who was good and who was bad, and I took advice and kicked back and listened to everything, brudda.

His feelings on future WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund: “You get that right brudda, you said the magic word. He was great to wrestle against; I mean, he was coming out of college, he was in good shape and everything, he looked good. He looked like a champion. And it was such a great pleasure, for me, to have the opportunity to wrestle him; you know the education that me and him put together, we learned a lot from each other. At it was such a special night for me, because I wrestled him twice and the second time was the best, greatest psychology I ever had with him because we clicked. We took care of it, do it right, because when we go back to that locker room brudda, you want to feel good and make sure you continue feeling that way.”

His famous cage leap at Madison Square Garden and how it inspired a generation of wrestlers: “You know, brudda, nobody really expected me to do that dive off the top of the cage. And to have all these beautiful guys that came to the show all the young professional wrestlers coming up; I didn’t even know what they were there until after the match was all over and everything and maybe even a day or so and I hear about it, that they were there. And I was very impressed that I could give them that feeling.”

His famous moment with Roddy Piper and the Piper’s Pit with the coconut to the head: “The most important thing about this whole thing with the coconut is I had to think ‘what can I do to prepare for what is going to happen with this coconut’. How was it going to go and work out the way he’s going to have to communicate with me because if we do it right, it’s going to be done right. So, he hit me with the coconut, the pineapples, the bananas all right, so when it came time for that last coconut, I was just staring him down because I ain’t going to look away, you know, I’ve got to see everything happening, you know? When it happened, brudda, when it happened and he hit me over the head with that coconut; thank God I had my bandana on, you know? But still it cut me open and I got so dizzy. I just kept going one way and I remember going into a wall and went down. That whole thing, brudda, is where it started. We both knew, when it was all said and done, I told him ‘I think we got them’.”
