Jerry Lawler Update: Walking Around, Still Very Sore, Memory Loss

15

WMCTV in Memphis is reporting that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler was back on his feet today for the first time since suffering a heart attack on Monday night. Lawler’s girlfriend Lauryn McBride provided an update to WMCTV (via text message):

“They are now taking lines out and he is looking so good today!!!”

“We will go for a walk in just a bit and s=do (sic) some more breathing exercises. Will update as the day goes on…”

McBride also noted that Lawler remains very sore (from the CPR chest compressions he received) and is having some trouble with his memory, but is aware of the support he’s received from everybody:

“It’s just the two of us here now, so we’ve had time to kinda talk about what’s going on and where he’s at…how much everybody back in Memphis and how much his family and everybody loves him and cares about him.”

New Jack Blasts Jerry “The King” Lawler On Twitter

91

Upon news surfacing Monday night that WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler had suffered a heart attack during Raw, fellow wrestler Jerome “New Jack” Young, “The Original Gangsta,” went on a scathing rant on Twitter (account located at Twitter.com/NewJackUncut) attacking the legendary Memphis figure. He wrote:

“Just heard about Lawler…f*ck that racist motherf*cka…die slow,you f*cking c*ck sucker

“If lawler dies, let me know where his grave is so,I can go piss on it…fuck that bitch

“Please let me know where they put that f*cka in the ground so,I can piss on his grave.”

Responding to fans, he continued, “Bitch,I’m not here to make you happy and if what I said hurts…GO F*CK YOURSELF…FAN

“I don’t work for a f*cking fan so,if what I say hurts ur lil white feeling…SO F*CKING WHAT…YOU ARE FOLLOWING ME BITCH BOY!!!!!!!!!!!

“I have really out done myself this time huh…1st Terri then Brian knobbs gets knocked the fuck out,I beat da shit outta balls and now jerry.”

Young then revealed that his diatribe partially stems from James “Kamala” Harris, another Memphis wrestling legend, not receiving as much as adulation and support as Lawler after having both of his legs amputated within the past year.

“When Kamala was going through some shit, nobody said shit so,now this shit with Lawler is supposed to touch me…F*CK EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!” he wrote.

Young also clarified that he’s not racist following his racially-charged rant: “Fyi,my 2 kids are from a white woman so,the next 1 of you mother f*ckers call me racist,I will send you a free dvd…dammit!!!

Former WWE Writer Talks About Whether RAW Should Have Continued After Lawler’s Heart Attack

7

Chicago radio host Steven Muehlhausen of Fight Club Chicago spoke to former WWE Creative Writer Court Bauer this week about Jerry Lawler’s medical emergency on Monday’s WWE RAW and whether WWE was right to continue with the show. Here’s what Bauer said:

“You can always debate that, but on the flip side, if he had died obviously it’s a whole new ballgame. They were in the process of trying to stabilize him and perform CPR. You had roughly about an hour left in the show. I’m sure you can coordinate with USA network to just jump into a re-run of one their programs and just be joined in progress.”

“Their is a lot of pride in promoters like Dana White in that the show must go on and when you can’t do that, it’s like your worst case scenario and its catastrophic. In this case, I felt they did a great job in regrouping by the end. It’s still so peculiar to me seeing a ten minute promo between Cena, Punk and Bret Hart. It just felt so weird and their was such a disconnect from it because real life was unfolding and there was something very real and crazy going on backstage.”

“From a business point of view, yes you are living to your obligation with the USA Network, but I don’t think any of that will capture anyone to buy Night of Champions. It will be a blur to people with what was said between Punk and Cena.”

Bobby Roode Talks About His Feud With Austin Aries & The State of Tag Team Wrestling

2

Bobby Roode joined ChadDukesWrestlingShow.com and 106.7 The Fan/CBS Radio DC’s Chad Dukes for an interview at September 1st’s TNA Basebrawl event. Roode discussed a number of topics including the state of Tag Team Wrestling, the mix of talent in TNA, Austin Aries, and more. You can listen to the interview at ChadDukesRadioshow.com. Here are some highlights of what Roode said about:

Tag Team Wrestling: “I think it’s a lot of people connect more with singles wrestlers maybe, I don’t know. I think, not to to toot my own horn here but I think that’s what Beer Money had that was special, again you know that we brought to the table in tag team wrestling was we had teams to work with, you know the teams of 3Ds and the British Invasion and of course, the Motor City Machine Guns that really etched our name in some of the greatest tag teams of all time and I think it was the entertainment value as well. People were able to connect with us and what we did and whether they loved us or hate us they were entertained every night and that’s something that’s important in professional wrestling today.”

His Rivalry With Austin Aries: “I think just chemistry-wise, I think we’ve had some great matches and we never really, before this program started with him and I, we never touched each other. We never wrestled each other before and I didn’t know really much about him and he really didn’t know much about me. The contrast in styles was something I think maybe people thought wouldn’t work, but I think we changed everybody’s mind. And I think if there’s ever an opportunity for him and I to go at it again, I think we’ll accomplish what we did, if not do things even better.”

Former 23-time World Tag Team Champion Devon was the featured guest on this week’s edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem. You can now feel The Mayhem every week only on the WrestleView Radio Network.

Devon joined The Big Mosh, “The Chairman of the Board” Todd Vincent, and MNM’s National WWE Correspondent Jim Molineaux for his first post-TNA interview, a Monday Night Mayhem worldwide exclusive interview, which is now available for download on the WrestleView Radio Network:

Devon/Monday Night Mayhem Interview (MP3 Streaming Audio):
Wrestleviewradio.com/WVIP_Preview/mnm091112.mp3

Interview highlights courtesy of Kahlil Thomas, MNM’s associate producer and official correspondent:

Setting the record straight on his official status with TNA iMPACT Wrestling and why his future in professional wrestling will be determined by faith: “The deal was up as of August 28th (of this year), and I was still (World) Television Champion. It just so happened at that particular point in time, we were in the process of cutting a new deal, but we couldn’t cut it in time before the deadline. Alot of fans speculated different things, and rumors were running rampant. Safe to say, I have no ill feelings towards TNA at all. It’s just that we could not come to an agreement before the 28th, and the deal ran out. It is what it is. Where I’m going to go and is where God wants me to go. If faith leads me to stay in TNA, I’ll stay in TNA. If faith leads me to go to WWE, then I will go to WWE. I will go where God puts me, and I’ll leave it in his hands.”

His first memories of his former tag team partner (Bully Ray/Brother Ray) meeting The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) before starting their feud together and the importance of storytelling & thinking longevity in getting over in the business: “Bubba (Bully Ray) and I were getting that from The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley). I remember one of the first meetings between us a few years back, and I remembered them saying: ‘We didn’t kill ourselves. We had the people in the palm of our hands. It felt like we did nothing.’ That was one of the things Bubba and I tried to express to the younger guys. You don’t have to do a million and one things to get yourselves over. All you have to be able to do is tell the right story, and you’re be able to get over without killing yourself. You have to think longevity.”

His thoughts on those fans who still reminisce about Extreme Championship Wrestling today, more than a decade after the promotion folded: “When fans come up to me and express their love of what we did back then in the old ECW, we touched a lot of people. We set off a revolution and something that was never done before. You got a little indy promotion that came out of South Philadelphia, in a Bingo Hall that nobody thought would last a year, let alone two or three, and then it just became the third most popular company in the wrestling business at the time. To hear those three little letters, it meant something.”

Whether or not the thought has already crossed his mind about returning to the WWE: “I would be lying to you if I said going back to the WWE wasn’t a thought. It’s always a thought for anyone who’s ever been there and then left.”

Much more is contained in Devon’s exclusive interview with Monday Night Mayhem, including his candid thoughts on if the feeling has sunk in that he very well might not be working in the same company with Bully Ray (Bubba Ray) for the first time in years, the naysayers who believed that singles runs for him and his former tag team partner would not be possible in iMPACT Wrestling, what irks him about the fans who compare the singles runs of The Dudley Boyz in the WWE vs. TNA, being given the opportunity to perform as a singles competitor and the TNA World Television Champion, why he credits Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff for the recent success he had, what talents he enjoyed worked work with in iMPACT Wrestling (and those he would have liked to have work with), the origins of the HardCORE Justice Pay-Per-View in 2010 and whether there was actually talk of an “extreme” brand within TNA, why he hasn’t thought about retirement just yet, not “if but when” The Dudley Boyz are Hall of Fame bound, scripted vs. unscripted promos, plus much more! Video Of Ric Flair Talking About Lawler’s Heart Attack, WWE’s Plans For New Years

9

– Due to New Year’s Eve (December 31st) falling on a Monday night this year, there has been talk of WWE showing a “Year In Review” special instead of a live RAW taping.

With the following day being a holiday (January 1st, New Year’s Day), there’s also a possibility WWE will hold a live SmackDown show that Friday (1/4) instead of the usual Tuesday taping.

– On Tuesday night, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair appeared on CNN Headline News to talk about Jerry Lawler’s heart attack. Flair said despite Lawler being 62 years old, Laweler is still more than qualified to wrestle because of his experience in the ring.

Here’s video from Flair’s appearance:

Speculation On WrestleMania 30 Location, More Appreciation Nights Coming

34

– WWE will be holding more “Appreciation Nights” in the coming months. Following the success of Shawn Michaels appreciation night in San Antonio, Texas prior to SummerSlam, WWE will also be honoring Jim Ross when RAW returns to Oklahoma on October 1st. Aside from showing appreciation to the Legends, this is mostly being done as a way to drive ticket sales in those markets.

– With WrestleMania 29 taking place from the MetLife Stadium in the New York/New Jersey area next April, there is a lot of speculation as to which city will host WrestleMania 30 in 2014.

The final decision will be made in early 2013, but people in WWE are under the impression that New York City’s Madison Square Garden is a strong candidate. This would be a break from WWE holding WrestleMania in large stadiums and would be the the 4th time the Garden hosted WrestleMania (1, 10, 20 and now 30).

Jesse Ventura Talks About Jerry Lawler’s Situation, If He Should Still Be Wrestling

13

WWE Hall of Famer Jesse “The Body” Ventura spoke briefly to Dave Lagreca and Doug Mortman on Busted Open about the Jerry Lawler situation. You can hear Busted Open on Sirius 94, XM 208, and Sports Zone 860:

Ventura on Jerry Lawler: “I didn’t learn about Jerry Lawler until this morning. Somebody mentioned it to me on an earlier interview. I wish him well. Jerry is one of the guys out there that I know pretty good and he is a very good man. He always treated me fair. He was always an honorable guy to me, so “get well soon Jerry and get back there.”

On working with Lawler: “I’m the only guy who went to Memphis who beat Lawler and he never beat me back. But there is a side story to that. I had won the Central States title from Jerry and he would have beaten me eventually but there were some problems when my daughter was born and I had to stay in Minnesota. Lawler was flying me into Memphis 3 days a week, every week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I had to stay with my daughter for a month when she was born because she was born with some complications. So I couldn’t come back and had to Fed Ex the belt to Jerry. That’s the reason he never beat me. I am probably the only wrestler in history that ever beat Jerry Lawler in Memphis and Jerry never beat me. Down the line however he certainly would have beaten me for that title.”

Was he surprised Lawler was still wrestling at 62: “A heart attack can hit anybody at anytime. You got to be in shape, that’s why I continue to work out. You got to keep yourself in shape. I personally don’t think anyone that age should be in the ring… not at all. It’s a young man’s game. I wouldn’t do it, I wouldn’t even consider it. I had my hip done. I wouldn’t even consider getting in the ring today. I wouldn’t have considered it ten years ago. When I left, I left. Notice I am the only wrestler who retired, who stayed retired. I never made a comeback. I hate to say this but I haven’t watched wrestling in 22 years. I watched a little bit before I was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and I watched it a little bit before Vince brought me back before that Monday Night Raw. I felt I should at least know who the wrestlers are.”

William Regal Appalled With Online Report, Ezekiel Jackson Profiled, New Natalya Photos

15

– William Regal has dismissed online reports attributed to F4WOnline.com claiming that he said WWE was searching for “ROH style” wrestlers while evaluating five prospects at this week’s television events in Canada.

He wrote on Twitter, “Someone has just tweeted me about something that I’m supposed to have said over the last two days while spending time and giving invaluable advise to wrestlers who come to be looked at by the WWE. I know I’m old and my standards are different to most but it really sickens me that someone out of the five people I saw this week would do that. Whats more appalling to me is that I never actually said what was quoted and so it shows that they weren’t even listening. Such a shame.”

Regal was also asked whether he is retired from the squared circle since he now works behind-the-scenes. He responded, “I do bits of it all.”

– The October 2012 issue of MuscleMag features a profile on Ezekiel Jackson’s workout routine. Enclosing a photo of the article, the SmackDown Superstar tweeted, “Article in the Oct issue of Musclemag. the first fitness mag I bought in 1992 that has helped me.”

– The official WWE website has published WWE Magazine exclusive photos of Natalya.

WWE Issues Update On Jerry “The King” Lawler, Edge Backstage At Tuesday’s SmackDown Taping

10

– The official WWE website released a statement Wednesday afternoon confirming reports on Jerry “The King” Lawler’s condition following his heart attack during Monday’s live Raw broadcast.

The statement reads, “As of Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2012, Jerry “The King” Lawler remains in a cardiac care unit in Montreal. His vital signs continue to be stable. He is awake, recognizes family members and is communicating with them. We continue to wish Jerry all the best for a full recovery.”

– WWE Hall of Famer Edge attended Tuesday’s SmackDown taping in Ottawa, Canada, because his protégé, Leah Von Dutch, participated in a private tryout before company officials.

Last September, Edge held the first ever “Edgucational” Essay Scholarship Contest. The most decorated Superstar in WWE history created this contest because as a teenager, he entered a professional wrestling essay writing contest for a major Toronto newspaper and was the winner. Edge’s prize was for the winner to receive free professional wrestling lessons, and the contest was won by Von Dutch.

Four other wrestlers received tryouts. William Regal, who helped coordinate the evaluation session, stressed that WWE is now scouring for “ROH style” wrestlers.

Linda McMahon Ripped For WWE Ties In New Attack Ad

46

Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy is taking Linda McMahon to task over her past ties to WWE as the Connecticut Senate hopeful released a new television advertisement Wednesday accusing the wrestling executive of laying off employees while her company hauled millions in tax credits.

The ad also accuses McMahon of denying Medicare, Social Security and unemployment to her wrestlers.

“McMahon laid off workers while taking millions in tax credits. Denied them health care,” the advertisement says.

In response, WWE said to NorwichBulletin.com that its full-time employees have always had health insurance, while its wrestlers are responsible for acquiring their own health insurance.

According to Murphy’s campaign, McMahon laid off 10 percent of her work force in 2009 and then received about $10 million in tax credits designed to create jobs.

“Since day one, McMahon has been running on her record as a ‘job creator,’ but the truth is that McMahon is a job killer,” said Murphy spokeswoman Taylor Lavender.

WWE said after reducing its work force by 10 percent, the tax credits enabled the company expand its work force by almost 30 percent.

The ad also states, “Linda McMahon took home $46 million a year. Now she’s proposing to give herself an up to $7 million tax cut. That’s the real Linda McMahon. She takes care of herself, no matter who pays the price. Linda McMahon, profits before people.”

McMahon campaign spokesman Todd Abrajano said of Murphy’s attack, “This new ad from Chris Murphy is just a desperate attempt to distract from the issues that come to light in his campaign.”

Lilian Garcia Performing During Halftime Of NFL Game, New WWE Entrance Videos Released

1

– On Sept. 30, SmackDown ring announcer and songstress Lilian Garcia will perform during halftime at Metlife Stadium – the site of WrestleMania XXIX – when the New York Jets take on the San Francisco 49ers.

“When I got the call, I nearly dropped the phone,” Garcia told WWE.com, recalling the good news. She was already scheduled to perform the national anthem — as she has done seven times prior at Jets game — but this marks the first time she will perform on the halftime show of an NFL game.

“The Jets want me to do a seven-minute show with their Flight Crew Cheerleaders, and I’m going to be rehearsing with them next week,” said Garcia.

“It’s almost like it was supposed to happen,” Garcia says of her upcoming performance. “To be performing at MetLife Stadium, out of all the buildings and all of the stadiums I could be performing at — especially my first performance coming off of my EP being released — it’s magical. The Jets fans are great, too, and there are a lot of WWE Universe members within the Jets community.”

Click here to read WWE’s article on Garcia.

– The official YouTube account of WWE has released entrance videos of a multitude of stars including Shawn Michaels, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Brodus Clay, Layla, Damien Sandow, The Great Khali, Michael McGillicutty, Derrick Bateman, Heath Slater, Tensai and Primo and Epico.

Backstage News On CM Punk & Paul Heyman’s Alliance, WWE ’12 Character Popularity

30

– Here are the most-played characters from the WWE ’12 video game:

1. Rady Orton
2. John Cena
3. CM Punk
4. Sin Cara
5. Brock Lesnar
6. Sheamus

Randy Orton’s placement above John Cena is a surprising, but could be attributed to the fact that he was the focal point of WWE’s marketing campaign for the game.

– The newly formed alliance between WWE Champion CM Punk and Paul Heyman was an idea that was pitched just a few weeks ago. After turning CM Punk heel at RAW 1,000, WWE saw that he was still getting a lot of cheers and WWE wanted to go further with Punk’s heel turn. Considering the two are close friends and Heyman still has a ton of heel heat coming off Brock Lesnar “retiring” Triple H, Punk and Heyman together was a natural fit.

Stacy Carter Gives Update On Jerry Lawler’s Condition, Says He’s Lucky To Be Alive Following Heart Attack

4

This week IN THE ROOM, Brady Hicks is joined by Stacy “The Kat” Carter, as she updates the fans on Jerry Lawler’s health situation. The gang also welcomes former ECW star Tony Mamaluke, as he runs down a fantastic career that spanned ECW, WWE, WCW, and TNA. What are Tony’s thoughts on his extreme legacy, being a “comedy” guy, extreme reunions, and being a part of the East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA), where he will make his debut this Saturday, September 15th at the ECWA 45th Anniversary Show in Newark, Delaware. Plus, Northeast Wrestling (NEW) announcer – and Brady’s PWI colleague – Gerry Strauss hops IN THE ROOM to talk about NEW’s “Wrestling Under the Stars” show, September 15th in Fishkill, New York … a show that will feature Hulk Hogan! In addition, Brady and the gang offer up the WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view predictions, and so … much … more. Thanks, as always, for the support!

But before any of that, though, Brady, Derrick McDonald, Mike Bessler, and Ray Bogusz are joined IN THE ROOM by a good friend of the show, Stacy “The Kat” Carter. Carter is a former WWE Diva, and the ex-wife and good friend of Jerry “The King Lawler … which gives her a very good perspective on the Lawler nightmare from Raw this week. Stacy hopped on the phone with Jerry’s girlfriend tonight … then called IN THE ROOM to update the fans on how he is doing. Excerpts below.

For a direct link to the show, click here.

On Jerry Lawler’s Condition: “Right now he’s stable, being responsive with a tube down his throat. He’s squeezing people’s hands, nodding his head. He can point out where he’s hurting, stuff like that. The next step is to wait for the test results to come back tomorrow, the scan on his brain to see what – if any – brain damage he may or may not have. And that’s pretty much it. He’s still critical but stable. He’s strong and he’s stubborn, so if anybody can pull through its him.”

On the amount of time it took for CPR to work: “WWE’s doctor was there when Jerry collapsed and fell out of his chair. He started CPR. From what I’ve been told is Jerry did not regain consciousness there. They did revive him there, but it took a long time – 15 minutes. It took a long time to bring him back. But he’s back now, he’s lightly sedated, and they’re taking him off the ventilator. He’s not in the heavy sedation that they had him in.”
