A.W. Angry With Linda McMahon, Rips WWE For Double Standards

92

After WWE unceremoniously terminated A.W.’s contract Friday for what a company spokesman said was due to his continued use of offensive and inappropriate comments on live television and on social media after uttering a rape joke on the July 30 episode of Raw, the All World Promotions chief posted a barrage of vitriolic messages on Twitter blistering his former employer for what he perceives are double standards.

A.W. strongly feels it is unjust that he’s now out of job when Big Show made a similar remark referencing NBA player Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault case, Vince McMahon reneged WWE’s anti-bullying campaign two months ago on Raw by ridiculing Jim Ross’ facial paralysis, CM Punk told a fan on Twitter to kill himself, Triple H simulated mock sex with a mannequin in a casket, McMahon used a racial epithet on national television, and the company showcased a character making light of mentally challenged individuals, among other unsavory events. Fans comments he posted include: “VINCE MCMAHON CAN SAY THE “N” WORD ON NATIONAL T.V. BUT @AWPromotions CAN’T TELL A JOKE………….whats wrong with this picture???”

“McMahon is a hypocrite! It’s cool for him to mock JR’s Bells Palsy, & you aren’t cut any slack for one joke? #BeAStarVince.”

“I hope Vince hasn’t forgot How he mocked @JRsBBQ on #RAW live, and @AWPromotions gets released for one joke?”

“@if only you had strangled someone with your tie, you’d be back within 6 months lol.”

“so Dx can tell everyone to suck it but u can’t make a joke?”

“@CMPunk told one of his twitter followers to kill themselves. biggest double standard in the world.”

“@kane has sex with a dead girl but @AWPromotions makes a kobe joke and gets fired.”

“Vince can kick the leg out from under a one legged kid, wrestle women, mock The mentally retarded and he fired you!!!”

“@Didn’t Big Show make a Kobe Bryant reference in a battle rap with Cena in 2003 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V6gr8CB-Eg … but AW gets let go?”

A.W. feels he is a casualty of Linda McMahon’s Republican pursuit of a United States Senate seat in Connecticut, which many have speculated has led the sports-entertainment organization to take action on any matter deemed controversial so as not to affect her campaign.

He tweeted to Linda, “Creates jobs my ass!! I’m fired thanks to you and your campaign.”

A.W. Terminated Due To “Offensive and Inappropriate Comments”

38

WWE announced Friday they have come to terms on the release of A.W. (a/k/a Abraham Washington) as of August 10, 2012, weeks after the boisterous personality made a rape joke on the July 30 episode of Raw. According to a company spokesman, A.W., whose real name is Brian Jossie, was terminated due to his continued use of offensive and inappropriate remarks in public settings following the ordeal.

A representative for WWE told TMZ.com Friday evening, “Unfortunately, Brian Jossie, playing the character of A.W. was terminated because he continued to exhibit poor judgment by making offensive and inappropriate comments on live television and on social media.”

Jossie angrily spoke out against WWE via Twitter following the announcement, stating they “turned its back” on him.

“It was the #WWE that made me bold and now it has turned it’s back on me,” he said. “Just be normal shut up and be a yes man so you can collect your check and feel like your special. #SELLOUTS!! I remember a time when the WWE didn’t care about breaking the mold but now everyone is so afraid of their own shadow. #RemeberTheFans. Thank you WWE for creating me and then killing me because I only portrayed what I grew up watching… The #WWE!!”

HBK Announced For Monday’s Raw, Gunn Addresses FCW Visit

13

– WWE announced Friday via Twitter that Shawn Michaels will appear on Monday’s episode of Raw, the final episode before SummerSlam. Brock Lesnar issued a threatening warning to HBK on Monday’s show that he would see him before SummerSlam. Michaels will be in Triple H’s corner when he faces Lesnar at the pay-per-view event. Triple H is also advertised to appear at Raw, which will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

– Former WWE Superstar Billy Gunn evaluated WWE developmental talent this week at Florida Championship Wrestling headquarters. Regarding this, Gunn wrote on Twitter, “Thanks to everyone in fcw for a great week of training had fun and learned alot the future is looking great if your a wrestling fan.” Gunn may further his partnership with WWE. As reported last week, management was impressed with Gunn and his interactions with Shawn Michaels on Raw 1,000 and the belief is he’ll receive at least one match on a future televised show.

– WWE.com has published photos from the SmackDown brand’s second night of action in Tokyo, Japan. John Laurinaitis, who competed on the show despite his removal from storylines, is not shown in any of the photos.

Abraham Washington Released By WWE, Goes On Twitter Rant

99

WWE announced they have come to terms on the release of A.W. (a/k/a Abraham Washington) as of August 10, 2012, weeks after the boisterous personality made a crass remark on a live program. Upon learning of the news, A.W. went on a multi-post Twitter diatribe ripping the sports-entertainment organization. He stated, “AWPromotions is no more ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for your support and hate, it’s been a great run. Now I get to do me which isn’t PG!

“@TitusONeilWWE & @DarrenYoungWWE thank you for allowing me to speak on your behalf. You guys are the best and I’m glad to call u my friends!

“I’ve offended the wrong people that taught me how to have ATTITUDE It was the #WWE that made me bold and now it has turned it’s back on me

“Let this be a lesson to up and coming talent in the WWE don’t try and be great like the Rock or Stone Cold. WWE isn’t the same…

“Just be normal shut up and be a yes man so you can collect your check and feel like your special. #SELLOUTS!!

“I remember a time when the WWE didn’t care about breaking the mold but now everyone is so afraid of their own shadow. #RemeberTheFans

“Thanks to the fans who showed me support over the whole Kobe thing and to those I upset I apologize again. Remember It’s entertainment folks.”

A.W. then indicates that his termination is tied to WWE chief Vince McMahon’s wife Linda’s pursuit of a United States Senate seat in Connecticut, which many have speculated has led the sports-entertainment organization to steer clear of any controversial matters as to not attract negative press to the campaign.

“I really do hope Linda wins that election because If not then all of this BS has been for nothing. #GoLinda!!” he wrote.

During a live WWE Raw broadcast on July 30, 2012, A.W. made a crass joke referencing NBA player Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault case in 2003 and 2004. As client Titus O’Neil tangled with Kofi Kingston in a singles match, A.W. yelled from ringside, “Titus O’Neil is like Kobe Bryant at a hotel in Colorado hotel room. He’s unstoppable!!” When Raw returned from commercial break following the bout, WWE apologized on-air via announcer Michael Cole and A.W. subsequently issued an apology via Twitter, noting that “there was no malicious intent behind the joke.” After Raw, WWE issued an official apology via TMZ.com stating that they had “taken appropriate action in the matter.”

Prior to joining the main roster this spring, A.W. was a fixture on the final episodes of ECW on Syfy with an in-ring interview segment called “The Abraham Washington Show.” He had been under contract to WWE since 2009, where he also performed for developmental promotion Florida Championship Wrestling.

Washington noted on Twitter that he would doing stand-up comedy going forward, remarking, “If you think that Kobe joke was bad wait till you hear my Vince jokes.”

MAILBAG: Did Andre The Giant Deserve A Run As Champion?

24

SEScoops Mailbag for August 10th

(please submit YOUR questions to [email protected])

Q: Who actually wrestled as the wrestler Who for the WWF in 1996?

A: That is correct, Who did wrestle as Who in ’96. Oh, you mean who *played* the role of Who? That would be Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Personally, I think the gimmick had potential as a trio with partners What and Where. I mean, if you insist on having a ridiculous gimmick, just go all the way with it.

Q: I really like the new NXT belt. Where does it stand in the hierarchy of the grand slam, triple crown champion system? I would like to think that it’s on the tertiary singles title level of the European/Hardcore titles. I’d also think that WWE would add the US title to the secondary level with the Intercontinental title. – Noach Lipsky, Jerusalem, Israel

A: All secondary titles mean so little in WWE these days, I don’t think any of this even matters. Personally, I’ve always viewed the US Title as being on the same secondary level with the Intercontinental title. As for the NXT title, you’re talking about a TV show that doesn’t currently air in the United States. As such, I don’t think most people will put the NXT title in the same camp as the other major titles. It’s a nice thing for the show, but will mean little if, one day, Seth Rollins wins the World Heavyweight Title. I doubt his time as NXT champion would even be referenced.

Q: What did you think of the tag team of Heidenreich and Road Warrior Animal from a few years ago on Smackdown? – Kyle G.

A: I thought it sucked. Animal teaming with anyone but Hawk is sacrilege.

Q: Do you think it was a bad business move for WWE to let Jeff Hardy go or was it a good thing? – Stacey B.

A: WWE didn’t really “let” Jeff Hardy go. They fought tooth and nail to keep him as he was one of their most popular and profitable attractions. It was Jeff’s decision to take a break from the WWE schedule and I have no doubt he would have been back at some point were it not for WWE having CM Punk make fun of him on air about those drug charges. That is when he decided to make the jump to TNA. I can understand his frustration having put his body through hell for the company and putting CM Punk over on his way out, even signing an extension after his contract expired to wrestle for another two months, only for them to kick him at his lowest point. If anything, *that* was where WWE made a bad business decision because he would have likely been back on the roster by now.

CM Punk Talks About Being WWE Champ, Jon Jones & “Combos”

21

WWE Champion CM Punk appeared on 670 The Score in Chicago on Friday and talked about a number of topics, including this thoughts on the state of the industry, every wrestling crowd being different, whether he’s had his best match yet and filming a commercial for the snack “Combos.”

Pictures of CM Punk’s $2 Million Chicago Apartment

Here are some highlights of what Punk said about:

Being WWE Champion: “Well, to me it means you’re carrying the company, you’re putting asses in seats, your kind of toeing the line, and you’re a leader.”

Having More Freedom As A Heel: “I think I’m more comfortable as a heel, for sure. I think it’s across the board. Take comic books for instance. All the bad guys, they don’t have rules they have to abide by. I think good guys anywhere in the world have a set of rules, maybe a code they have to follow. I think when you’re a bad guy that all goes out the window and you get to have a little bit more fun.”

Backstage Reaction To His Pipe Bomb Promo: “I’d never been that one hundred percent universally accepted in my life. It was all smiles and high fives when I went back there.”

His Controversial Comment About Jon Jones’s Nike Deal: “I have nothing against Jon Jones. You gotta love Twitter, don’t you?”

If He Wanted To Be A Role Model: “No, no because it’s too easy to screw up. I’m constantly saying that if kids can get anything positive out of me and my image, that’s awesome. But I make mistakes and I do stupid stuff all the time too. So I’m not actively trying to portray myself as a role model. I’m definitely not telling kids, ‘Do what I do, make sure you follow me.’ There’s no one right way in my opinion. Kids need to find out who they are and they can follow their own path.”

AJ Talks About Her Character Getting Over, Meeting Fans & More

14

WWE RAW General Manager AJ Lee was recently interviewed by ESPN’s Tech blog. Not only is AJ a “crazy chick” but she’s also a self-proclaimed geek and gamer.

Pictures Of AJ Lee Before She Was In WWE

Here are some highlights of what AJ said about:

Winning the WWE ’12 Video Game Tournament at WrestleMania 28 Week: “You know what’s funny is, everyone knows that I love playing video games, so they were all telling me, “I know you’re going to win this.” But I was terrified because I had never had the chance to play the game, and the gameplay in “WWE 12” was completely different than the game that came out the year before. The pinning system, kicking out, the submission system is all so different, so I thought I was so screwed. But I got to play two or three practice matches before the tournament started, then I just got really lucky. Everyone thought I had been playing for months, but I only played like two matches. I’m proud of that win. I keep the trophy in my office.”

Strange Encounters With Fans: “The other day I was in Walgreens just trying to buy a toothbrush… and this guy who works there is helping me for like 10 minutes, then all of a sudden he blurts out: ‘You shouldn’t let Daniel Bryan talk to you like that!’ and runs away. I was like, ‘What?’ I was so confused. [laughs] It’s so weird because people know you even if you don’t know them, and I’m still wrapping my head around that… I had someone come up to me at the airport and grab my engagement ring after Daniel Bryan proposed to me, and she was like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing. You and Daniel are going to be so happy.’ It’s weird. Everyone feels like they know you. It’s an adjustment.”

Her Character’s Popularity With The WWE Universe: “I think the important thing is that I’ve never tried to be someone I’m not. People can read right through that. There’s a place for people who are unattainable where you want to have their poster on your wall because they’re larger than life, and that’s fine, but that’s not me. I’m not the coolest person in the world. I’m not the sexiest Diva or the strongest Diva. I know who I am. I’m not the most popular person and I’m kind of dorky and I’m someone you can see at your school or as your neighbor, and I think people like that. I think I’m a girl that represents someone you might know or would like to hang out with, and I think people just relate to me. I also look like I’m about 14, [laughs] so maybe I look like I do go to high school with everyone. I just think it’s cool that people have taken to me. Before I was on the show, I was a fan, and I think people can see that.”

Comparisons to Miss Elizabeth: “I think I have a long way to go. She is out of my league, but I appreciate the comparison. I think it’s the innocence people see in the two of us, and having something that’s more of an understatement. A woman who appears to be more of a gentle creature on TV. It’s amazing to me to be compared at all to her, or anyone in the past. I hope I can be someone people look at in the future and compare other people to me. It’s a big deal, and I appreciate it.”

Eve Talks About NBC’s New “Stars Earn Stripes” Reality Show

WWE diva Eve Torres will be competing on the new NBC reality TV show, “Stars Earn Stripes,” where celebrities go through military training to raise money for charities. The show premieres Monday night at 8pm ET and goes head-to-head with the first hour of WWE RAW. Here are some highlights of a recent interview Eve did with the USO website about her experience:

Getting ready for the show: “I can honestly say I didn’t have any idea what I was getting myself into. I thought it sounded great, the premise of the show, but I had no idea the wringer that they were going to put us through. … There were some moments that everyone had when they wondered if they could really do this.”

“I did a lot of conditioning and training before the show, but what I wasn’t prepared for was the emotional aspect of the show. Every time we’re in real BDUs (Battle Dress Uniforms) and in KIT (Knowledge Information Technology), it was amazing. The realities of what the military has to go through really sunk in. Clearly we don’t have an opposing force, but it really felt real and made me feel so much respect for them, more than I even had before.”

Working with WWE for the Troops: “With the WWE, we go overseas pretty much every year — at least for the past eight or nine years — to bring a part of America over to [the troops]. And so the idea of the USO and being able to send entertainers to support our troops, I love the idea of it because I’ve been a part of it. [The USO is] an amazing organization and one that I’m proud to represent. It makes a good feeling that when you get through your mission, you know you’ve earned money for not just the military men and women but for their families.”
