Vickie Discusses Weight Loss, Thoughts On WWE’s “Fat Jokes”

14

Vickie Guerrero spoke to Kevin Eck of the Baltimore Sun to promote tomorrow night’s WWE Capitol Punishment pay-per-view event in Washington D.C. as well as Monday’s Raw in Baltimore, Maryland. She discussed numerous topics including how her recognizable catchphrase came out, Eddie Guerrero’s influence on her career, her significant weight loss, her weight being lampooned on WWE programming, and more.

Guerrero reveals that her trademark saying, “Excuse Me!”, came by accident one night at a television event.

“That was just a fluke,” Guerrero says. “I think I probably forgot my lines one night and just kept saying ‘excuse me’ to remember what I had to say next, and the fans just got louder. I tried it a couple more times and we thought, let’s stay with it and see where it goes. Now I sign all my autographs with ‘excuse me.'”

Guerrero says Eddie Guerrero is the inspiration behind her heel character as she learned how to cut an effective promo from watching him perform.

She says, “I think it goes back to watching Eddie do promos [wrestling monologues] in the living room and in the bathroom for 15 years. The louder I can get the fans and the angrier they are at me, the more it fuels the fire in me to just push them to the edge even more. It’s a high.”

Numerous insults have been levied at Guerrero over the years regarding her weight. Despite losing more than 50 pounds since last year, the jokes about her being overweight have continued to linger on WWE programming. She, however, feels it comes with territory.

“The jokes have helped grow my character to what it is,” she said. “I just kind of roll with it and leave it behind me when I leave the arena. Again, there’s the character and then there’s the real person. You can’t take what’s going on at work personally.”

She continues, “They really didn’t bother me. Well, I guess they did to an extent, but not to where I was feeling bad about myself. It was who I was. We have beautiful women that work with us, and when I was in the locker room with them and we’re dressing and stuff, I would look at them and be like, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. I’m going to change.’ I wanted to feel good being a part of their group and to live a lifestyle that was going to be promoted with the WWE. Now when they say the jokes, it’s like, “Whatever.'”

Guerrero attributes her significant weight loss to exercise and a stringent diet.

She says, “I’ve lost 52 pounds. My secret was to stop eating all the junk food after leaving the arenas. I never really trained the first four years I was with WWE, so I wasn’t happy with how I looked and I wanted to have some improvement, so I found a personal trainer and also started doing the nutrition side of it. I’m really happy with the results, and I probably have like 20 more pounds to go. You cut out breads; you cut out all the junk food. I don’t drink any more sodas. I just eat healthy chicken and steak and rice. I don’t have any fried foods. I do have my cheat days and I look forward to them because you have to enjoy life. It’s so bad at our catering at work because our dessert table is bigger than our entrée table, so I save my Mondays and Tuesdays for a piece of cake or something that’s sweet. That’s my reward if I work hard during the week.”

“Enjoy. Thanks again, all you UW fans, for all the great memories.”

“A warning: there is some strong, adult language in these videos; not much, some. There ARE NOT streams of cuss words and there is NO language — NONE– that is sexually explicit, but there are a few choice F’bombs. Just letting you know in case you might decide to watch these clips in the presence of kids. My advice is to not do that.”

Despite Truce Offer, Warrior Still Plans To Blast Hogan

Warrior says that despite Hogan wanting to end their war of words, the scathing videos he has recorded are still coming – because Hogan has spent years trying to discredit him and destroy his legacy.

“I dont hate you terry, but I despise the absolutely disgusting example you have set as a man.”

Robert Roode Talks Beer Money’s Future, Hogan’s Praise

During the interview, Roode Discusses TNA’s Highly-Anticipated Return To Buffalo For This Saturday Night’s BaseBrawl Event, Beer Money’s Future In TNA, What He Believes Himself & “The Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm Have Left To Prove Together As A Tag Team, His Reaction To Hulk Hogan’s Recent Comments About Possibly Becoming The Next Big Singles Star On Impact Wrestling, The Chances Of Seeing Him Go One-On-One With “The Nature Boy” & What It Has Been Like For Him Working With Ric Flair, The Biggest Point Of Growth He Has Seen In TNA, Why He Believes “Going On The Road” Is Important To The Continued Growth Of TNA, The Current State Of Tag Team Wrestling In The Industry Today, Plus Much More In His Exclusive Monday Night Mayhem Interview!

You can listen to an MP3 of the interview by clicking here.

Interview highlights courtesy of Paterson, MNM’s associate producer & official correspondent:

What he believes his tag team partner (“The Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm) & himself have left to prove as a tag team & whether or not we are seeing the final days of Beer Money as a tag team in TNA/Impact Wrestling:

“I don’t know. James & I in this three-year span have done a hell of a lot. We’ve become champions. We’ve lost championships. We’ve won them again. We’ve been in the ring with some of the greats. I don’t know tag team wise what’s left for us to do. We could stick around for a while and do our thing, but the fact of the matter is tag team wrestling is not as popular as it once was. Tag teams was always a staple, but nowadays, it’s not. I think there’s going to come a time, whether it be in the near future or further down the road, that James & I are going to get an opportunity to prove ourselves in singes competition, but no matter what, there’s always going to be a Beer Money.”

His reactions to Hulk Hogan’s recent comments during his press conference at CWI’s “Brawl at the Bush II,” in which “The Hulkster” stated why he & TNA have high hopes for Bobby as a future singles star in the company, plus why he is personally looking forward to seeing more from Bobby in the coming months:

“Obviously, you don’t want to disappoint anybody from my standpoint. When Hulk Hogan says something like that, I have to take it to heart and do everything I can to what he expects of me. I’m ready to do this. I’ve been ready for a long time, and who knows what is going to happen as far as with James & I and our singles careers when it comes, but I could promise the fans to expect the unexpected.”

His thoughts on returning to Buffalo for TNA’s BaseBrawl event this Saturday night at Coca Cola Field:

“I’m looking forward to it. I did a BaseBrawl when I first started out in TNA, and it was a lot of fun & really different. I’m looking forward to getting back to that field and performing in front of the Buffalo fans. It’s always awesome in Buffalo.”

Batista Talks Leaving WWE, Possible Return, MMA, Mason Ryan

15

Former WWE star Batista was interviwed this week by f4wonline.com’s Wrestling Observer Radio Show. Here are some highlights of what Big Dave said about:

Why He Left WWE:: Batista said he left WWE because he felt like he didn’t fit in anymore. He feels like wrestling is in a bad spot right now and has gone down hill since the whole PG direction. Batista said it leaves a bad taste in his mouth and became too unbelievable & hokey. He added that the things he learned from guys like Triple H and Ric Flair, you couldn’t do anymore. He said you couldn’t use your tools anymore. Batista said he felt like he became disconnected from the business and became unhappy with it. He still believes in WWE as a company but there wasn’t a place for him anymore.

Batista said he gave WWE about 7 months notice that he wanted to finish outright. He wanted to go out the right way and give WWE plenty of notice. That 7 months ended up turning into 9 months because they needed him longer. Batista made it clear that Vince left the door wide open for him to come back. He said he enjoys having that opportunity there to go back, if he wants.

His MMA Career That Never Got Off The Ground: He had reached out to Strikeforce while with WWE and the MMA promotion expressed interest but he didn’t actually sit down with them until he left WWE. His plan was to become a profesional MMA fighter and actually had a 3-fight deal on the table with Strikeforce that would have seen him fight on CBS, Showtime and pay-per-view – all leading to a fight against Bobby Lashley. Batista cited scheduling, his movie work and financial differences, among other things, as to why the deals never worked out. They had another deal almost ready to be signed that would have sent him directly to pay-per-view to fight but his manager Cesar Gracie didn’t think everything was fair. When UFC bought out Strikeforce earlier this year, the deal fell apart.

Underutilized Talent In WWE & Who Has Potential: Batista thinks WWE blew a huge opportunity by releasing Ken Anderson and was “shocked” when he got released. Batista also named Ted DiBiase Jr., Kofi Kingston and Sheamus as superstars he sees with huge potential.

Mason Ryan: He doesn’t think Nexus star Mason Ryan is an attempt by WWE to copy him. He thinks Ryan is a great guy after meeting him in London and is curious to see where his career goes.

Whether He Would Return To WWE: Batista has no desire to ever work the full time schedule again, but says the door is open for him to return at some point for a final run so he can get closure on his career and officially retire. He is interested in working with WWE behind the scenes in some capacity as well.

Acting & MMA: He doesn’t want to be a full-time actor and doesn’t think he will ever be qualified to be one. He is also looking to continue his MMA training and eventually get a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Update On Sin Cara’s Rocky Start In WWE

47

Sin Cara’s first few months in WWE have been rockier than expected, with WWE officials being dissatisfied thus far with the Mexican wrestling star’s in-ring work, namely, his ability to wrestle the “WWE style.” A number of measures have been to protect Sin Cara reputation, including moving him to SmackDown (a taped show, where botched moves can be edited out easier) and the recent signing of one of Sin Cara’s greatest rivals from Mexico, Averno.

As the first superstar signed to WWE under Triple H’s overhauled talent development division, many believe that he’s been cut more slack that most would get because he is Triple H’s pet project. Cara is said to be frustrated with having to learn a new style of wrestling, but is grateful that he is considered ‘protected’ for the time being.

Sin Cara and Chavo Guerrero had a lousy match at Over The Limit, and Chavo is the one who took all the heat for being unable to carry Cara.

In related news … When Sin Cara first signed with WWE, he told his previous boss, CMLL owner Paco Alonso, that he was very appreciative for giving him his big break in wrestling and would be open to working a few CMLL shows each year as a way of showing his gratitude. Alonso rejected the gesture and is said to still hold a grudge that Sin Cara left his promotion for WWE. WWE signed Sin Cara, one of the top stars in Mexico, as a way of expanding their business in the territory, which is already threatening CMLL’s business.

As noted earlier this week, CMLL trademarked the name ‘Sin Cara’ for use in Mexico since WWE never did so.
