Hulk Hogan Pulls Out Of Northeast Wrestling Show

3

TNA star Hulk Hogan has announced that he will not be appearing at an upcoming live event for Northeast Wrestling. The promotion has been advertising Hogan for their upcoming arena show on September 22nd in New York.

The NEW promotion tweeted the following on Wednesday:

Hulk Hogan’s surgery went well and he will be ready for Sept. 22nd in Fishkill, N.Y.

Hogan followed up with the following tweet on Thursday:

It should be noted that Northeast Wrestling never stated that Hogan would be wrestling on the show. He had been advertised for an autograph signing. Other talent scheduled to appear are Roddy Piper, Jerry Lawler, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Matt Hardy and several other legends.

NEW had been very accommodating of Hulk Hogan’s schedule, even moving the date of the event due to his recent back surgery.

– The New York Post features an article on the third annual “Sirius XM Celebrity Fantasy Football Draft,” which took place Thursday morning in New York City. WWE superstar The Miz was at the draft for the second year in a row, and spoke about his appearance:

Austin Aries Talks About Achieving Success Despite His Size

11

TNA World Heavyweight champion Austin Aries recently spoke with Newsday.com. Here’s what Aries said about reaching the top of the pro wrestling industry despite his size – including comparing himself to Chris Benoit:

“I think at the end of the day this is the entertainment business,” said Aries. “There is definitely an athletic, physical nature to it, but it’s about entertainment. In the history of wrestling you’ve had people of all shapes and sizes… The major companies are seeing that talent is talent, and whatever talent you want to utilize that can make money you’ll use, regardless.”

“You see it now along the lines of guys like the Daniel Bryans, the CM Punks. You had it with guys like Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Sean Waltman, HBK, going back to Jerry Lynn, who I always loved watching. There’s a long list of guys who didn’t meet the hulking 6-foot-4, 270-pound idea of what a wrestler is.”

Warrior Responds to Allegations, WWE Partnering with Shazam

6

Upon alligations relating to the Ultimate Warrior accused of Fraud, the Warrior’s legal team responded with the following statement:

To Whom It May Concern,

“Earlier this week, Mr Christopher Elias used TMZ.com and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department in an apparent effort to gain publicity for himself at the expense of professional wrestling legend The Ultimate Warrior. The matter that has arisen between Warrior and Mr Elias is in relation to a simple contractual dispute, the facts of which will speak for themselves.

“Mr Elias’s allegations of criminal fraud are completely unfounded, ill-advised and unfortunate. This is a purely civil matter that is in the process of being resolved by our attorney.”

Original WWE MITB Winner, WWE Wants Superstar to Lose Weight

24

– Inside WWE sources are reporting the original plan, for Money In The Bank, was to have Chris Jericho win the match, becoming the first person to ever cash in the briefcase unsuccessfully that night after Daniel Bryan and CM Punk’s match.  The Main Event of Money In The Bank would have been CM Punk vs. Bryan as the main event.

The week of the event, WWE went with Cena winning instead. The thought process on then moving the MITB mach to the main event was that officials felt that the ending would lack impact if it had ended with Punk winning and no one cashing in the briefcase.

– Several weeks ago during a match, Bray “Husky Harris” Wyatt was injured. At first WWE wanted to have him stay on developmental TV in an On Camera role, since while recovering for six months WWE has decided that he should take the time off, to rest up The company also wants him to watch his diet and lose weight.

Foley Talks RAW 1,000, Punk, Cena, WWE PG, TNA & More

11

Mick Foley was recently interviewed by Busted Open Radio. Here are some highlights of what Foley said about:

His Run In TNA: “I look back, and I wish I’d appreciated the time I was with TNA a little more because I was frustrated when I was there with some things. I wrote a blog about it about a year ago, partially because I wanted to set the standard that this is how I felt about the company. I should’ve appreciated it for what it was, instead of trying to make it what I thought it should be, and I had the freedom to just have a really good time out there. There were some times when I would judge the success of my appearance by whether or not I could get Jeremy Borash to laugh. There were times when I would look over, and JB would have tears streaming down his face.”

John Cena: “I realized he was going to make it, I mean really truly make it, the moment that he threw his shirt out at the Hammerstein. When that shirt came back to him and he laughed and played it off, [I knew he was going to make it] … Even the guys who’ve left there, you don’t really hear anybody bad mouth John. He’s almost like the exception.”

His Role At RAW 1,000: “I don’t know. I’m at the show, I know I’ve got the plane ticket, but that doesn’t mean when they put the show together … You know, I’m sure they’ll find a way that I’ll be on it, whether it’s in the background [or something else]. Honestly, I’m not as tough to please as I used to be. I’ve just been really flattered that I think I’ve appeared in three of those ‘Raw’s Greatest Moments.’ I usually watch the show with the kids because I could get a feel for what was working based on what my kids were talking about, whose action figure they wanted, who they wanted to meet, and inevitably that would be the guy who would end up getting over six months later.”

His Relationship with WWE: “Even when I was estranged from WWE, I realized I could either be bitter and miss out on these four hours a week that my kids loved to watch, or I could join in and watch the show. Not only could I appreciate how good it was and see how well things were done there, but I could really enjoy the show, especially when they would throw my name around. One time it was in a clip about two years ago, and then of course that moment when they brought up my book was when I went from if a question came up about a Hall of Fame slot down the road I’d go, ‘I don’t know. It’s a big deal to my kids, I guess I’d do it,’ and then I was like, ‘Yeah, I’d do it. If they asked me I’d do it, no questions asked. I don’t care if I went on first, second, third, or fourth.”

Whether CM Punk Can Be The Face Of WWE: “Yeah, I think he can. I think in a way, he has. That was a year ago he did that stunning [promo], and there was a part of me that said, ‘Hey, they may have dropped the ball.’ I wish he’d sat out about five or six months, and I wish he’d done ROH shows as WWE champion, but the guy is money and he’s different.

“I was on WBAB in Long Island and there was a guy who had just tuned in and he said, ‘What’s with this CM Punk? I don’t get it.’ But the connection is more legitimate because he’s not a guy who strikes you right away. You see the standard bearers of the company over the years and you go, ‘OK, that guy’s a wrestler, I completely get it.’ You have to absorb Punk a little bit and get it, and I think … was it Kimmel he did? It was Kimmel, but he also did Jimmy Fallon and he was really good on Fallon and if he gets that reputation as a guy who does well on these shows, he can become that mainstream guy.”

WWE Being PG & Exceptions Like Cena vs. Lesnar: “You know, I think they can occasionally. I remarked about that match Cena and Brock had, and we watch a lot of the pay-per-views and I’ve never seen an atmosphere like that. Hughie was really fascinated with Brock Lesnar and he goes, ‘Dad, would you be able to beat Brock Lesnar?’ I said, ‘Brock Lesnar would kill me,’ and he got really disappointed and he went, ‘But what if there was barbed wire?’ I said, ‘He’d still kill me.’

“I wish it had been stopped five minutes in and that wound was so bad, the side of the scalp; it was nasty. I was thinking, ‘Man, they’re going to stop this thing.’ It reminded me of watching The Deer Hunter in the 70s when I had to listen to my relatives talk about how much they didn’t like that movie for five days, but they were talking about the movie for five days. And that was a match that was very uncomfortable to watch as a fan, but I watched. [My son] Dewey’s in the house and he’s going, ‘This isn’t f—–g wrestling. What is he f—–g doing?’ and I’ve never seen a crowd like that.”

JR Blog: His Role At RAW 1,000, NXT, Undervalued Talent

5

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. As always, you can check out Jim Ross’ delicious line of BBQ products at WWEShop.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

JR At RAW 1,000th: “I never planned to not attend the celebration, as I prefer to look at it, as RAW1000 is a milestone that I’m proud to say that I was able to contribute to beginning in 1994 when I first appeared on the broadcast.”

“Even though I do not know my exact assignment at RAW1000, I assure one and all that it doesn’t matter to me. Team players contribute where they are needed and determining where I’m needed isn’t my call. All I know is that I will be ‘at the game’ and ready to help the team win in any way that I can. It’s really a simple philosophy that I’ve believed in for many years.”

Does He See NXT As A Disappointment?: “Obviously not. If I did not want to contribute to WWE’s most important department, the development of new talent, then I would have passed. I BELIEVE in the Talent Development Department and honestly feel that there is no more important area within the entire WWE. Attractions sell PPV’s, Merchandise, garner TV ratings, etc. Attractions are main event level superstars with staying power and they are not developed in a few months and sometimes not in a few years. Many of today’s fans have short memories about that process or they simply have never experienced it. Bottom line, some fans have little patience and they feel as if they are ‘owed’ more than they are.”

Most Undervalued Talent In WWE: “I’m not sure, it’s a subjective question, but if I had to make a list it would include William “Don’t call me Steve, Dusty” Regal. An excellent broadcaster, skilled in ring talent and a fantastic teacher to the developmental kids. “

Ticket Sales Slow For SmackDown Taping, Arena Offers Discount

13

Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana is offering a discount on tickets for the Tuesday, July 31 SmackDown taping due to sluggish ticket sales. The venue issued the following notice to regular customers: “For a limited time, purchase a ticket and get upgraded to the next price level at no extra cost. That means if you purchase a ticket for $35, you’ll be upgraded to a $45 seat.”

Since last fall, multiple SmackDown events have drawn poor ticket sales, particularly in the Midwestern United States. There have been several instances where almost all of the camera side of the host venue has been tarped off, along with a large part of the upper bowl. One show in Toledo, Ohio was among the worst attended WWE events in years, drawing approximately 3,200 fans with only 1,600 paying. Raw Superstars John Cena and Triple H were added to several shows this summer to alleviate the disappearance of top SmackDown talent Randy Orton following his sixty-day suspension for his second violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program.

Both Cena and Triple H are advertised to make special appearances in Indianapolis, Indiana. It will also mark as the SmackDown return of Orton.

WWE Leaning Toward Punk Keeping Title?, Rock’s Rare Moments

43

– WWE’s creative committee is rumored to be leaning toward CM Punk retaining the WWE Championship next Monday on Raw SuperShow when John Cena cashes in his Money in the Bank contract. According to PWInsider.com, there is a lot of talk within the organization that Cena will be the first person to not win a title directly after cashing in the briefcase.

– WWE.com has published an article recalling fifteen of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “rarest, heart-pumping” moments on Raw. Moments noted are his Raw debut against Salvatore Sincere, capturing the Intercontinental Championship from Hunter Hearst Helmsley, preparing for his first WrestleMania match against The Sultan, his explanation for joining The Nation of Domination, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin forfeiting the Intercontinental Championship to him, awarding gifts to The Nation of Domination, The Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection win the World Tag Team Championship, a Steel Cage Match versus Shane McMahon, facing Ric Flair, and The Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection reuniting to battle Evolution, among others.

The Road Warriors: Danger, Death, and the Rush of Wrestling by Joe “Animal” Laurinaitis will be released Tuesday in E-book form.

Big Angle on RAW 1000, WWE Teasing Rock’s Interference, NXT

32

– WWE had Triple H, Pat Patterson, Terry Taylor and Dean Malenko, among others, at the recent WWE NXT TV tapings to scout talents and help teach.

More DX Members, The Rock To Wrestle Before Mania, HBK

15

Jerry “The King” Lawler, recently spoke with The Miami Herald, regarding the origin of the line “puppies” he had used for many years doing the Attitude era.

“I actually got to give credit to a guy who I think will be returning on the 1,000th episode. It was a member of DX, Road Dogg (Jesse) James. I believe he was talking to Sable at the time. DX was in the ring, and Sable was in the ring, and somehow I believe Road Dogg said, ‘Hey, show us your puppies.’ It kind of floated by. No big deal at that point and time, but then I started using the word a couple of weeks later, and it just stuck.”

–  Rumors are going around that The Rock is concidering competing in a match or two before WrestleMania XXIX on April 7, 2013 in New Jersey. The Rock returns  to RAW for July 23rd’s 1000th episode. The last time The Rock was on Raw was the night after he defeated John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII,  on that night he promised “Team Bring It” he will become WWE Champion again.

– Another video of Shawn Michaels has been posted, introducing his new special edition watch from Deuce Brand Watches.

The Epic Journey of Dwayne Johnson, Cranky Vince Gone Again

8

– All September, WWE’s 2012 video release The Rock: The Epic Journey of Dwayne Johnson on pay-per-view. The following preview has been released.

http://youtu.be/r9ZC0g2cdg8

– Cranky Vince, a popular Twitter account parodying head chief Vince McMahon, is gone from Twitter. It disappeared Friday after having posted several messages mocking WWE’s partnership with Tout.

The account would spoof McMahon’s demeanor and mindset with random musings depicting the WWE Chairman as eccentric, maniacal and drug-addled. It had drawn alarming concern from organization officials since last year, who believed it was being controlled by an employee within proximity of McMahon due to the eerie nature of the tweets. The account would often post messages based on things he had legitimately done or said at work—sometimes moments after occurring.

– After making his first appearance inside a WWE ring since 2004 on Monday’s Raw SuperShow, Rikishi is today’s featured Superstar on WWE.com.

WWE Ref Speaks Out, WWE Inbox; Who has the coolest ring gear?

13

– WWE Ref John Cone talked to Pitch.com  Below are some interesting tidbits:

Most memorable match

“It was just a couple of months ago at Extreme Rules, Daniel Bryan against CM Punk. I was honored to referee that match, and those guys tore the house down. It was just fantastic, probably one of the purest wrestling matches that I’ve ever refereed. It was great.”

The biggest bump he’s taken

“It was Extreme Rules again, just a couple of months ago. Brock Lesnar was wrestling John Cena, and the official for the match was Charles Robinson. He got knocked down, and I come running down the aisle. I think Brock had Cena in a pin attempt, and I slid into the ring, got a two count, and as I stood up, here comes Lesnar with a clothesline. I didn’t remember much afterward. And then he kicks me in the stomach as I try to get out of the ring.”

– WWE has issued another installment of their YouTube show Inbox, the question this week: Who has the coolest ring gear? Take a look:

Will Austin Be at RAW? HHH High on McGillicutty, FCW Divas

44

– Triple H is reportedly high on Michael McGillicutty with the thinking that he’s a potential star.

– There is still no word on whether or not Steve Austin will be appearing on the 1,000th RAW episode. A source says that if Austin can get away from filming Grown Ups 2 then he may appear on RAW but when the date was first announced and brought up to him, there was a conflict.

– Of all the Divas in WWE developmental, the ones getting strong reviews are Raquel Diaz (Shaul Guerrero), Paige (Britani Knight) and Sofia Cortez (Ivelisse Vélez).

Paige and Sofia are better than most Divas on the main roster and given Paige’s age and in-ring ability, the feeling is that she has the potential to be the star worker in WWE’s women’s division down the line. Regarding Diaz, the feeling is that she has great charisma and potential to be one of the best female talkers but her in-ring work is not ready.

Story Behind Sunny’s Erratic Behavior, Why She Was Fired By WWE

17

As reported earlier, WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch checked into a rehabilitation program sponsored by WWE on Monday morning. She was admitted to an emergency room late Friday night for consuming nearly two gallons of vodka (figure according to RF Video), and her boyfriend, independent wrestler Damien Darling, insisted that she seek professional help.

According to Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline.com, she attributes her erratic behavior in recent months, which has led to her no-showing multiple wrestling events she was scheduled to perform on, to depression stemming from loneliness. The couple have a long-distance relationship as they only spend time together on weekends and on Mondays she often becomes depressed and subsequently behaves in an erratic manner through the week. The website says she has had “several bad Fridays” but last week’s ordeal was serious enough that Darling gave her an ultimatum; either enter rehab or they were through.

RF Video was scheduled to film Sytch’s wrestling road travels last week but her untimely fall of the wagon nixed plans. She then offered to participate in a “shoot” interview on Sunday, which was more or less an intervention, as she spilled her soul on her myriad of problems. She was asked on at least three occasions whether she was comfortable laying everything out on the table and said she wanted to go public with her personal issues not to mention that she considered it the first step in cleansing her inner being.

Dave Meltzer stated in 2005 in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter obituary for Sytch’s late boyfriend Chris Candido that her refusal to enter a rehabilitation center led to her premature termination from WWE, then known as the World Wrestling Federation, in the summer of 1998. After repeated no-shows and questionable excuses, particularly when she claimed to executive Linda McMahon that she had miscarried a child and was unable to produce medical documentation, was asked to enter rehab. She refused and was fired as a result. She entered rehab at least once years later, but was unable to cease her substance abuse.

In honor of Monday Night Raw celebrating its 1000th episode next week, The Solomonster has taken the time to painstakingly rank the top 30 greatest moments in Raw history, dating all the way back to 1993! This was no easy task. For all of the horrible moments we’ve had to endure, there have been far too many great moments to count, from the 1-2-3 Kid’s upset win over Razor Ramon to Brock Lesnar’s triumphant return earlier this year, and all of the Austin/McMahon hijinx in between. Condensing them into a list of just 30 is bound to cause some spirited debate.

With two and a half hours of audio, this GIANT edition of the Solomonster Sounds Off ranks each moment from #30 all the way up to #1, providing some historical context for them along the way. You’ll find many of the moments you expect, several you would not and some that you may have forgotten about. This is NOT a list of greatest matches, even though there may be some matches highlighted here, but rather, moments that include superstar debuts, returns, rants, retirements, invasions and more. All of them are worth going out of your way to see.

Before you enjoy Raw 1000 next Monday, download Sound Off 228 and be reminded of the moments that helped WWE reach such a milestone!

Ex-WWE Talent Working As Mystery Attackers, Update On Sorensen

17

– On last week’s episode of Impact Wrestling, a mysterious group of masked men known as “The Aces and Eights” attacked both Hulk Hogan and Sting at the show’s conclusion. Two of the attackers were former WWE performers—Wes Brisco, a former developmental wrestler, and the wrestler formerly known as Luke Gallows. Gallows has participated in all of the group’s attacks while Brisco debuted last week. For the time being, the wrestlers taking part in the angle are being used as extras rather than full-fledged characters.

It was also noted that former WWE Superstar Chris Masters, who has been campaigning via Twitter to join the organization after working a dark match last month, has not taken part in the angle.

– Jesse Sorensen appeared at Destination X on July 8 to address his neck injury and hope that Zema Ion captures the vacant TNA X Division Championship so he can take the title away from him. He then vowed to reign as X Division Champion at next year’s Destination X pay-per-view event and cash in the title to become the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Despite the angle being put in gear, Sorensen’s return to the squared circle remains indefinite as it could take place anywhere from three to ten months from now.

Destination X Draws Poor Buy Figure, Officials High On Daniels

11

– After last month’s Slammiversary pay-per-view event drew approximately 15,000 buys, the purchase number for the Destination X show on July 8 fell to 9,000 buys, according to early estimates. This is approximately the same level their pay-per-view events garner with the exception of Slammiversary, Lockdown and Bound for Glory.

Destination X was headlined by Austin Aries vs. Bobby Roode for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and an X Division Tournament to determine a new TNA X Division Champion.

– Christopher Daniels’ performance in the ongoing Claire Lynch angle has drawn high marks from TNA Wrestling honchos Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan. The 41-year-old had acting experience before entering professional wrestling as he performed in theater.

– Velvet Sky has been announced to appear for Impact Championship Wrestling on September 29 at The Armenian Cultural & Educational Center 47 Nichols Avenue, Watertown, Massachusetts 02472. She will be in action and will also accompany Danny Demanto for his match against Sami Callihan.

“TNA Rewind” Canceled By Spike, TNA Trying To Rebuild Fan Trust

14

– Spike TV has canceled Impact Wrestling recap program TNA Rewind, F4WOnline.com confirmed Wednesday.

Last Thursday’s premiere episode, the first hour of what was tapped to be a weekly three-hour block of TNA Wrestling programming, drew an anemic 0.2 cable rating. This rating is approximately one-third of what the network typically garners in the 7:00 p.m. Thursday time slot.

The program will continue to air online via ImpactWrestling.com.

– According to Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer, TNA Wrestling officials are hopeful that their efforts toward improving the product will result in better business numbers by this fall, whether it’s increased pay-per-view buys or attendance.

Meltzer adds, “I think everyone realizes that the people who gave up on TNA are not going to come back quickly, and word-of-mouth, even today when you’ve got social media, can’t turn things around. They realize they have a lot to do to rebuild fan trust in the product.”

– Mickie James, who has not appeared for TNA Wrestling since losing to TNA Women’s Knockout Champion Miss Tessmacher on the June 21 episode of Impact Wrestling, competed at an independent wrestling event last Friday. She put over Rachel Summerlyn for 2CW.

Songwriter Files Lawsuit Against WWE Over WCW Theme Songs

12

A licensing inquiry by THQ led one songwriter to file a federal lawsuit against WWE, WWE-owned company Stephanie Music Publishing, Inc., WWE employee Michael Seitz (a/k/a Michael “P.S.” Hayes) and WWE employee James Alan Johnston (a/k/a Jim Johnston). According to a lawsuit filed by songwriter James D. Papa, the sports entertainment organization redirected royalty payments to several wrestling related songs he either wrote or co-wrote by securing the rights to music unlawfully.

The songs in question are featured in the 1992 WCW compilation album Slam Jam 1 and were used as entrance themes by wrestlers. The songs include “Badstreet USA” (The Fabulous Freebirds), “Don’t Step To Ron” (Ron Simmons), “Man Called Sting” (Sting), “Mr. Bang Bang” (Cactus Jack), “Master of the DDT” (Jake “The Snake” Roberts), “Freebird Forever” (The Fabulous Freebirds), “Simply Ravishing” (“Ravishing” Rick Rude), “Johnny B. Papa says he was contacted by video-game company THQ for permission to license “Badstreet USA” for its Legends of WrestleMania title that was released in March 2009. The lawsuit alleges, “THQ’s records showed the song to be owned by World Wrestling Entertainment.” The suit continues:

“As a result of the confusion, Papa contacted BMI to ensure that ‘Badstreet USA’ was properly registered to him and his companies. Upon his investigation, Papa learned that ‘Badstreet USA’ had been improperly and erroneously reregistered by Defendants and been given a new registration number, resulting in the royalties being redirected to Defendants. Eventually, through working with BMI, Papa was able to correct the registration to properly reflect his ownership in the work. However, by the time the registration was corrected, THQ had decided not to use the song.”

The suit says, “His investigation revealed a systematic pattern of errors and omissions by WWE personnel that effectively misappropriated Papa’s musical works and deprived the Plaintiffs of royalty payments that would have been paid but for these errors and omissions.” According to BMI.com, “Mr. Bang Bang” has two separate registration numbers: one for Papa, another that credits James Alan Johnston as songwriter and Stephanie Music Publishing as publisher. Johnston is WWE’s longtime music composer while Stephanie Music Publishing is a company owned by Vince McMahon that was named after his daughter, Stephanie.

Papa says his songs have appeared on myriad places including numerous video releases, broadcasts of cable television shows and on-demand programming, without his permission and without receiving financial compensation. He is seeking royalties paid (plus pre- and post- judgment interest) on the sale of videos, computer games, the sale or licensing of ring tones, and the broadcasts of cable television shows and on-demand programming; a preliminary and permanent injunction to halt the use of the copyrighted materials; an order directing the named defendants to file a report detailing how they have complied with the injunction; reimbursement for legal fees; and a trial by jury where the court will determine damages. He also wants the court to certify that he owns the rights to the music.
