Triple H On Whether He Prefers Being A Wrestler Or An Executive

19

The interview recaps from WrestleMania weekend are still trickling in. Just hours before his match against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 28, Triple H spoke to The Houston Chronicle and had this to say about the following topics:

WWE Being in a “Good Place”:

“We’ve grown and matured as a company. This Wrestlemania will be the biggest single night in our industry’s history, but we’re just scratching the surface of where we’re going. We’re into movies, publishing and creating our own television network later this year.”

Which Job He Prefers: Wrestler Or WWE Executive:

“I’ve always had a fascination with business. I’ve been involved with the creative side practically since the day I started with the company in 1995. That’s the part I love most, creating the stories, coming up with the spark of an idea and seeing our talent go out there and execute it. Being allowed to be creative in your work is a wonderful gift. It’s a cliché, I know, but we put smiles on people’s faces every day. That’s the fun of our business. When you go to a WWE event, and you perform, and you see the smile you put on a kid’s face … that’s an incredible feeling.”

“You’d have to be a professional athlete or entertainer to get that. I do miss the pain. Every year, I know I’ll feel like a bus hit me the day after Wrestlemania. And the second day I’ll feel like the bus backed over me again. It’s a badge of courage almost. To an athlete, it becomes a point of pride, how beat up you feel the next day. It means you left everything on the playing field.”

Brock Lesnar’s Return Match, Paul Heyman Joining Him In WWE?

26

Brock Lesnar will be returning to a WWE ring much sooner than some fans may be expecting. Lesnar signed with WWE over the weekend and could wrestle his first match as soon as Extreme Rules later this month or Over The Limit in May. As we’ve been reporting, Lesnar has signed a 1-year deal with limited appearances – which will culminate in a match at next year’s WrestleMania 29.

During Lesnar’s first run with the company a decade ago, Paul Heyman served as Lesnar’s mouthpiece, accurately touting him as the “Next big Thing.” According to WWE sources, there are currently no plans to bring Heyman in with Lesnar. Heyman has is a very busy man with a number of ongoing projects through his Looking For Larry agency based out of New York City.

That’s not to say that there aren’t people that want Heyman back on WWE television.  WWE (and TNA) has reached out to him in recent years, but the two sides could never reach an agreement. Anything is possible, but for now, WWE is moving forward with Brock Lesnar under the assumption that Paul Heyman will not be on board.

*SPOILERS* WWE SmackDown Tapings Results (3/6)

50

WWE taped this week’s Smackdown from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Credit to Wrestling News World for these results:

* David Otunga opens the show by introducing the new Smackdown General Manager, John Laurinaitis, who now has music and a TitanTron. He says everyone is excited for his debut on Smackdown and talks about how exciting it will be. He asks Teddy Long to come out. Teddy says that the benefit of him being without a job is that he can tell Johnny to go to hell. He says that he could not just walk away from Smackdown, despite not working there anymore. He calls it the best job of his life and thanks the WWE Universe. He says he hopes they’ve had as much fun as he has had. Teddy goes to leave but Laurinaitis stops him and says that Teddy rudely interrupted him. He offers Teddy a job. Teddy says that he needs a job, but not one from him. He says that Johnny can take his job and shove it. Laurinaitis says to think of Teddy’s grandchildren. Otunga says he looked at the paperwork and WWE granted college funds to his grandchildren, and that the funds go to the Smackdown General Manager. Johnny says that if Teddy takes the job, all he has to do is say that Johnny is better than him. Teddy says that Johnny is better than him. Laurinaitis says to say it louder, then tells him to go backstage and do his job. Teddy asks what it is, and Laurinaitis says that he hasn’t figured it out yet.

* Laurinaitis sends Teddy to the back and announces that, in the interest of People Power, Kane vs. Randy Orton tonight will be a no disqualification match. In addition, he announces R-Truth vs. Mark Henry & David Otunga in a handicap match, which will be next.

* David Otunga & Mark Henry b. R-Truth after Henry hit the World’s Strongest Slam and Otunga got the pin.

* Randy Orton b. Kane in a no disqualification match after Orton countered the chokeslam by pushing Kane into an exposed turnbuckle. Orton then hit an RKO to win, in what was described as a very good match.

* Barry Stevens, a local talent from Queens, New York, is introduced to the crowd. Some of the lower-card Smackdown talent are shown laughing at him. Ryback‘s music hits. Skip Sheffield has returned.

* Ryback b. Barry Stevens in a squash, with a high-angle fisherman’s suplex.

* Daniel Bryan & AJ come to the ring. Bryan says that if there was one good thing this week, it was that it allowed him to think about how everything was going so right, and how it has gone so wrong. He says “The truth is…” before pausing. AJ takes the mic and calls him a great wrestler and a great person and says that she isn’t the only one who thinks that. She points out all the “YES” signs and how his name is chanted when he’s not in the ring and how we are all here to support him. Bryan says it feels like everyone is mocking him. He says that if people were supporting him, they wouldn’t cheer “YES” for The Rock. He calls the people sheep. He says it makes it worse that AJ cost him the title. He says he beat two giants in a cage and he overcame 5 people in the Elimination Chamber, but her kiss flushed it all down the toilet. He says that AJ doesn’t get to rewrite this story, and it is all her fault. He says that it was his first WrestleMania and he walked in as World Heavyweight Champion. Her clinginess cost him the greatest night of his life. He will never let her ruin his life like that again.

* Bryan says he has a rematch clause with Sheamus and he will do it the right way: alone. He tells her to get into her SUV and go eat some cheeseburgers as he gets rid of the dead weight. He says they are through and that was the last kiss that she’ll ever get from him. She tries to reason with him but he tells her to get out and turns his back on her as she goes to the back crying.

* Big Show b. Heath Slater in a non-title squash. Cody Rhodes was on commentary. Cody was about to enter the ring, but decided against it. Show hit Slater with the WMD and Cody retreated.

* Backstage, John Laurinaitis is talking to The Bella Twins. Sheamus walks in and asks what Laurinaitis wanted to talk to him about. Laurinaitis calls out Sheamus for being disrespectful to people like Daniel Bryan and Alberto Del Rio by kicking them when they weren’t ready. He says that when he wrestles Del Rio, they need to come face-to-face first. Sheamus says that Laurinaitis is right and tells him a story about a bully he knew, which Laurinaitis was not happy with.

* Nikki Bella b. Beth Phoenix in a non-title match after Kelly Kelly distracted Beth at ringside. Nikki capitalized and hit an X-Factor to win.

* Damien Sandow, an FCW talent, appeared via the TitanTron and cut a promo talking about people’s moral quality and calling them out on it.

* The Three Stooges are announced as the guest hosts for next week’s Raw Supershow.

* Alberto Del Rio b. Sheamus by disqualification to earn a future title shot. Ricardo Rodriguez got onto the apron and Sheamus pulled the ropes, sending him into the ring. Del Rio got a chair and tried to use it, but Sheamus stopped him. The referee turned around, saw Sheamus holding the chair, and disqualified him. Sheamus then hit the referee with a Brogue Kick and stared at Del Rio and Rodriguez, who had retreated up the ramp, to end the show.

There is no turning back the hands of times. Thanks to all of you that write me and keeping me in your prayers. Right now my heart is broken but in time I know it will heal. I wish I had the skill to do something else but I dont know what it would be.”

Madusa Clarifies Royalty Check Amount, New Online Game

5

— Madusa, who formerly appeared as Alundra Blayze for WWE, posted a photo on Facebook of a royalty check she recently received from her former employer. Her image post, which has since been deleted, suggested she received $305,563.46 for appearing on video releases sold between October 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011. She clarified the matter Tuesday night on Twitter by revealing that she actually received a small amount of compensation.

“Just to clear up the the royalty posting From WWE to me…. 1) i am not a liar it did come to me… Lol 2). It is the correct amount and did I post THAT was my total take? NO! Like any other entertainment company I got very little. However I am still making nice royalty checks, thank u WWE,” she wrote.

It is likely that the displayed monetary figures is WWE’s total revenue from the video titles during the three month period.

— WWE.com has released a new online game called “WWE’s Greatest Catches.” The description reads: “Throughout history, WWE Superstars have caught opponents off-guard with moves that must be seen to be believed. But which ring warrior made the greatest catch inside the squared circle? Choose now and play “WWE’s Greatest Catches,” one of two great new games brought to you by “Deadliest Catch” and Discovery Channel.”

— WWE officials were “thrilled” that Raw events trended on Twitter during the West Coast airing on USA Network Monday night. It was something that had never been done before.

Epico Upset With Lack Of Presence At WrestleMania XXVIII

57

WWE Tag Team Champion Epico posted a series of messages on his Twitter account Tuesday afternoon complaining about his group being left off the WrestleMania XXVIII pay-per-view event and subsequent television events.

“Can you believe this @LaRosaMendes? Every single WWE title was on The Wrestlemania PPV. But the WWE tag champs get the Pre-show. I thought this was WRESTLEmania…. Not CONCERTmania… Who did Flo-rida and that MGK beat??? I guess they beat the tag champs. Not only the tag champs get left out of wrestlemania… We weren’t even on Raw and it looks like we won’t be on smackdown either,” he wrote.

He then slammed the pay-per-view’s celebrity presence after being deemed irrelevant by a Twitter user. He wrote, “And since when is Flo-rida, MGK and that menounos chick relevant to a wrestlemania????”

Rosa Mendes, Epico and Primo’s on-screen manager, is also voicing her displeasure with the group’s last of television presence this week.

“I’m really confused to say the least, I’m one of the hottest Divas on the roster, @WWEEpico and Primo are super athletes and we only get the dark match at #WrestleMania, no match on #Raw let’s see if we even have a match on #Smackdown. Are people that intimidated by us?” she wrote on Twitter.

“THEY SHOULD BE!!!”

Triple H Discusses Wife Stephanie’s Weight, Juggling Family Life

14

Shocking photos surfaced late last year of WWE executive Stephanie McMahon appearing in tremendous physical shape, which she credited to her extreme desire to defeat her battle with the bulge following the birth of her three children. Dave Palumbo, who assisted Stephanie in achieving her weight loss goal, spoke to husband Triple H last week in an interview for RXMuscle.com to ask him how she’s doing with that. The WWE Superstar admits she’s having trouble maintaining her desired physique.

“She’s looking forward to doing that although I think it’s taking her a little bit longer than she was hoping to,” he says of her intention to participate in a photo shoot this summer revealing her abdominal muscles. “Not that she’s been strict, her body’s just been a little bit resistant to change coming up, all the stuff she was doing. But she’s working hard at it. I think once we get past WrestleMania here, she’ll be able to work a little harder.”

He continues, “For Steph, it’s tough. She’s an executive here, which is a 24/7 job, and then on top of that, three kids and then trying to get in shape. It’s a full-time gig to say the least. She’s full hands-on mommy. When the kids are up at the crack of dawn, she’s up and by the time we get home from the office and we train at night, she’s going to bed at one in the morning and getting up with them at six, it takes its toll.”

With their tireless work for WWE, Triple H explains how they are able to juggle family life. He says that while they have assistance taking care of their three children, their work schedule revolves around them.

He says, “We have help, we couldn’t do what we do without help, certainly. At the level and going as much as we are you have to have a team in some way, shape or form. But, that being said, it’s one of the things we really are adamant about. For me and for Steph, our kids and our family comes first, so we take our kids to school every day. We make sure we’re home, if not to eat dinner with them, to put them to bed at night. If we have to work more later, we do. We work all other stuff around that. We try to be with them as much as we possibly can and work everything else around them.”

12

— Sunday night at WrestleMania XXVIII, Eve accompanied Zack Ryder to the ring for the match between Team Johnny and Team Teddy. Eve subsequently distracted Ryder, costing him and Team Teddy the bout. She added further insult to injury after the match by hitting Ryder below the belt, thus completing her heel turn. Eve explained the next night on Raw that she used Ryder to get her “WrestleMania moment.” She added further on Twitter, “I feel on top of the world right now and don’t feel the need to explain myself to anyone.”

She also responded to The Miz taking credit for Team Johnny’s victory at WrestleMania XXVIII, writing, “Your welcome.” Eve wrote minutes later, “So sorry… my uneducated assistant wrote that last tweet for me. Last time I let that happen. *You’re welcome!*”

— SmackDown ring announcer Lilian Garcia kicked off Sunday’s WrestleMania XXVIII pay-per-view event with a stirring rendition of “America the Beautiful.” With her performance at the show, she surpasses Aretha Franklin for most musical performances at WrestleMania with three. The WWE Diva took to Twitter to thank fans for their amazing support.

“Reading all ur amazing tweets has literally brought tears to my eyes. U will never know how much it has meant 2 me! Luv u!!” Garcia wrote.

Live Audio Wrestling reports former WWE Superstar Chris Nowinski was among those in attendance at Saturday’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Chris Masters Addresses Triple H’s Infamous Weight Loss Jab

26

In May 2006, Chris Masters’ booming career with WWE at the time would come to a screeching halt when he was sent to a drug rehabilitation center due to his addiction with painkillers. Speaking to Power Slam, the former WWE Superstar addresses the matter.

“It was a developing thing that kind of escalated in 2006 and became a problem. You know, I had to go away for a couple months to rehab after the company became aware of my problem. It took a while to get over that. I went into rehab, not even ready to deal with the mindset that I was an addict,” he says.

“It was so much responsibility and I don’t think I was mature enough to handle all that opportunity that was given to me. I didn’t really appreciate it, I made a lot of mistakes and it kind of derailed my career. It took a while for me to get myself back on track, but I did, and now I’m completely fine, clean and sober. But I’m a walking miracle. At one point, I was taking 75 painkillers a day.”

Masters lost a noticeable amount of muscle mass by the time he returned to WWE programming on the August 28, 2006 episode of Raw with color commentator Jerry Lawler acknowledging him as the “leaner and meaner Chris Masters.” Masters appeared in a backstage segment on the October 2, 2006 Raw with Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Eric Bischoff in which he said he was “thinking about writing a book on nutrition.” Triple H quipped in response, “Really? What are you going to call it: How To Lose Fifty Pounds In Four Weeks?” Interviewer Greg Lambert feels the remark was deliberately intended to ridicule his loss of muscle, which conflicted with what WWE was purportedly trying to achieve with its Wellness policy.

Masters responds, “First of all, let me say that Triple H is a big ball-buster. I don’t think he’s as devious as people make him out to be, but he’s a ball-buster, albeit an equal opportunity ball-buster: he takes shots at Shawn Michaels all the time. They were always taking jabs at each other. So, it might have been the wrong message, yes, at the time. But I don’t think it was meant as a malicious thing.”

A few weeks later, John “Bradshaw” Layfield made a similar crack at Masters’ expense in reference to MVP’s No Mercy opponent Marty Garner. He said, “The guy looked like he had escaped from a concentration camp: the guy was as skinny as Chris Masters.”

Masters responds, “I won’t take anything JBL says too seriously, because the guy’s an idiot [laughs]. Look at his body! Who is he to criticize anybody? But I didn’t realize it was such as a big deal. People wanted to point the finger and say [the weight loss] was because I was on steroids … But that wasn’t my problem. I didn’t go away because of that or come back leaner because of that: it was because I would wake up every morning in rehab and run two miles as my therapy. I wasn’t able to do as much weight training. So, I did gradually lose a lot of weight. I didn’t realize, coming back, it would be so dramatic and people would make such a big deal about it.”

Masters packed the muscle back as months later his physique had noticeably enlarged. Lambert asks, “Was that because you been stung by [the comments]?”

“Part of it was. Eventually, it wore on me, but not at first,” Masters says. “I was happy with myself: I didn’t mind being smaller. But after a certain point, it probably go to me, so I cut back on the aerobics and running, and went back on the heavy weights.”

Masters was suspended by WWE in August 2007 and November 2007 as a result of violations of their drug testing policy. This led to his first release from he company on November 8, 2007. He says of the events, “I hadn’t overcome my prescription pain pill problem. I had taken something that hadn’t been prescribed to me, and I got red-flagged for that.”

Masters eventually conquered his drug addiction and was rehired by WWE in June 2009. He explains what led him to change his ways.

“I’d got fired from the job I always wanted. I’d blown through six figures worth of money, and I knew I had to change my ways. We’ve seen a lot unfortunate tragedies in the business. I’ve seen Test and Umaga, who I knew well, pass away and it always affects me. There’s always a sense of relief that I was able to catch myself and not let it get to that point. It gets to a point where you either hit rock bottom or you’re going to die,” Masters says.

“I hit rock bottom, then a second rock bottom, and, by the third, it finally woke me up. The same thing has happened to Matt Hardy. But I hear now, it looks like he’s doing great. Hopefully, he’s reached enough rock bottoms that now, he’s back on track.”

WWE Acknowledges Lord Tensai’s Past, The Rock Wins Award

32

— Matthew Bloom, who formerly competed as Prince Albert, Albert and A-Train for WWE, resurfaced as Lord Tensai on Monday’s Raw SuperShow as he decimated Alex Riley in a squash match. WWE announcer Michael Cole acknowledged Tensai as a former WWE Superstar who “became a huge international star in Japan.” He did not, however, make specific references to any of his prior personas. WWE.com subsequently published an article acknowledging his time as A-Train.

WWE.com writes, “The hulking warrior is in fact the WWE Superstar formerly known as A-Train, who competed in WWE for several years before embarking on a journey of self-discovery in Japan. Once he’d crossed the Pacific Ocean, he immersed himself in the Land of the Rising Sun, embracing a new culture, training regiment, and philosophy that seemingly caused him to forsake the customs of his native United States.”

— Jim Ross is heading to Florida Championship Wrestling headquarters in Tampa, Florida today to assist WWE developmental talent.

Why Bryan Was Squashed At WM28, Extreme RAW, Palm Trees

57

– Sheamus made history at WrestleMania 28 on Sunday when he captured the World Heavyweight title from Daniel Bryan in a mere 18 seconds. According to PWInsider.com, the reasoning behind this squash was that WWE wanted to do something “shocking” at the show to catch people off guard. They also want to get the Brogue Kick over as a dangerous move.

Although his first WrestleMania appearance is probably not want he’ll want to remember, there is no heat on Daniel Bryan and the squash was not a punishment in any way. Which definitely deserves a …. YES! YES! YES!

– We’ve received word from several fans who attended WrestleMania that Sun Life Stadium employees were very accommodating to fans who had their views obstructed by the massive palm trees that were constructed around the ring. Because the palm trees were a late addition to the WrestleMania set and the tickets sold for the seats with the obstructed views did not state “Limited Visibility” on them, many of those fans were moved to much better seats closer to the ring.

– The upcoming 3-hour RAW on 4/23 from Detroit, Michigan will have a special “Extreme” theme.  This show, which was rumored to be when WWE held the 2012 Draft, is the final RAW before Extreme Rules on 4/29.

— Evan Bourne sustained a midfoot fracture dislocation in an undisclosed accident last week as his foot was broken in four spots and dislocated in five. According to the official website of Silverman Ankle & Foot Practice, his injury, also known as a LisFranc fracture dislocation, is a career threatening injury to athletes, even when treated well.

The website says, “It is unknown whether or not Bourne will return to wrestling after this injury but one thing is certain – it’s going to be a long road to recovery.”

— The Miz’s victory over Zack Ryder on Monday’s Raw SuperShow snapped his eleven match losing streak in televised singles bouts. His last prior singles victory took place on the December 5 Raw in a count-out win over Randy Orton.

Lord Tensai, played by former WWE superstar Matt “Albert” Bloom, made his WWE debut on Monday’s RAW, brutalizing Alex Riley in a match that was stopped by the referee after Riley was clearly unable to continue. WWE announcer Michael Cole acknowledged Tensai as a former WWE Superstar who “became a huge international star in Japan.” After the bout officially ended, he clutched Riley’s skull in a claw and drove him to the canvas.

Lord Tensai wrote on Twitter that there is a fake Lord Tensai account going around, @WWE_Lord_Tensai.

Tensai’s disciple Sakamoto has joined Twitter: @WWEMrSAKAMOTO.

WWE Superstar Yoshi Tatsu wrote the following on Twitter last night about Tensai and Sakamoto:

“Who is Lord Tensai’s young boy!? At first I should kick his head off. Just bring it!!!”

“I just wanna let you know Lord Tensai is NOT Japanese. I’m REAL Japanese!!!”

“Open challenge to Lord Tensai from @YoshiTatsuWWE”

Randy Orton Dropped From WWE Studios’ The Marine 3

72

SmackDown star Randy  Orton has been dropped from the upcoming WWE Studios film,  “The Marine: Homefront.”

Many questioned WWE’s decision to cast Orton as a Marine, when Orton was actually kicked out of the Marines prior to his WWE career. Orton received a bad conduct discharge  after going AWOL on two separate occasions and disobeying an order from a commanding officer.[18] Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, According to his Wikipedia page, “Private First Class Orton was tried and convicted under a special court-martial and was put into a military prison for thirty-eight days.”

A WWE representative told TMZ.com:

“WWE demonstrated poor judgment in signing Randy Orton for the 3rd installment of the film. Despite Randy’s popularity, the fact that he was dishonorably discharged from the USMC made it inappropriate for him to be cast in this film.”

Marines, including some who served in Orton’s former unit, complained about the casting.”
