Former WWE Diva Maria Takes Another Shot At The Bella Twins

22

During AfterBuzzTV.com’s post-show for Monday’s Raw SuperShow, former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis took a Triple H-like swipe at former colleagues Nikki and Brie Bella.

Former WWE creative writer Jensen Karp recalled producing a backstage segment involving the word “labiagytis” (on the May 1, 2006 Raw, Candice Michelle asked Vince McMahon in he could cure her labiagytis after he had cured her chest cold). While the program hosts segued to discussion over the Divas tag team match on Raw, Kanellis quipped, “Speaking of labiagytis, The Bellas…”

Kanellis then joked that she was merely kidding, but that she “couldn’t help it.”

This is not Kanellis’ first swipe towards the twin duo on the talk program as she implied on October 10, 2011 that they once shared a hot tub with John Laurinaitis, referring them as “two Divas who look alike.” She took another veiled shot at the Bellas’ promiscuity the following week, which featured Nikki and Brie flirting with WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent Relations in a backstage segment.

While segueing, Kanellis said, “And the Bella Twins were in the back with Johnny, moving on…”

Footage of Kanellis’ latest remark is available here.

23
Miss USA Rima Fakih

Tough Enough contestant and former Miss USA Rima Fakih was arrested Saturday morning in Highland Park, Michigan on suspicion of drunk driving.

WXYZ.com reports Fakih took a breathalyzer and blew a 0.20, more than twice the state’s legal limit. She spent most of Saturday in jail.

Fakih has reportedly been in touch with Triple H in recent months discussing a potential return to WWE in 2012. This probably won’t help her chances of getting re-signed.

Fakih originally tried to deny that she was arrested by stating on Facebook and Twitter that it was actually someone else with the same last name. The posts were removed late Saturday and her attorney, Donald Elder, confirmed the arrest.

Elder told the Detroit Free Press Fakih was “very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she is in right now.”

Mick Foley On Whether He Has One More Match Left In Him

15

Arda Ocal (@arda_ocal) of The Score Television Network and #AftermathBlog had a chance to sit down and interview the hardcore legend and three-time WWE Champion, Mick Foley. Highlights:

His new career as a stand up comedian, and is his aspiration that it turns into something more, or were these tours it all along: “I’ll tell you were I didn’t want to lead, its me sitting on my couch 10 years from now saying I could have done that comedy if I just give it a try. I’ve done it a little bit a few years ago, but I got a little disheartened. I realized it would take alot of work, much more work I’d be willing to put in to really become good. I don’t know where it’s suppose to lead anywhere besides me to be able to speak about things that seem fun to me.”

On his latest book “Countdown To Lockdown” being plugged by WWE, and whether that started the train of thought of him wanting to return to the WWE: “I got a 203 area code phone call. It was WWE asking me if I mind if they mention my book on the air, and the other question was if you would like to do an interview with Joey Styles, and I was like yeah. So Joey called me up, and Ive known Joey for ages, and we have always gotten along very well, and he was like is this for real? Like, they have never done this to anybody, and what it did was it just instantly erased all the little grudges that I thought I had.”

Foley addresses the possibility of having “one more match” left in him, how his son has been asking him about it, and how he is physically capable of having a “decent” match (perhaps not an epic encounter), but he would need lead time to physically prepare. He also said that he likely doesn’t have one more book left in him, but he (jokingly) has the desire to be the leader in writer forewords for books.

Part two of Arda’s interview with Mick Foley will be released on Tuesday.

Movie On Chris Benoit Double Murder and Suicide Announced

147

The final days of Chris Benoit will be re-told in a new big screen ‘biographical thriller’, entitled Crossface.

SRG Films have bought the rights to Matthew Randazzo’s book Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry, to retell the wrestler’s story, whose career and life ended in a double murder–suicide.

Sarah Coulter has already written the first draft of the script, which is expected to begin filming late next year. Talks are underway with potential actors and directors and the film already has an IMDB page.

Coulter says, “People immediately point to steroids, never thinking about the brain trauma these wrestlers can, and do, incur in their profession, nor do they consider the rigorous schedule that keeps them working even when they shouldn t be. The Benoit story is one that needs to be brought into the light.”

MAILBAG: Someone Actually Asked a Question About Brakus!

63

SEScoops Mailbag for December 2nd

(please submit YOUR questions to [email protected])

Q: A few mailbags ago you said that “Cult of Personality” was the first song to be licensed for a entrance theme. There have been a few superstars that have used popular music as entrance themes. Bastista used “I Walk Alone” by Godsmack, Undertaker used “American Badass” by Kid Rock along with “Rolling” by Limp Bizkit, and Orton uses “Voices” by Rev Theory right now. So how can C.M. Punk be the first to have Vince license his music for him? – Nick

A: If you are referring to the September 9th mailbag, I never said Punk’s music was the first to be licensed by WWE. A reader alluded to the company spending a great deal of money on the rights to the song, which is correct. What differentiates that from those Limp Bizkit songs is that WWE does not have to overdub the music on their DVD or On Demand content with Punk’s song. Secondly, Godsmack’s song was actually called “I Stand Alone”, which was used in The Scorpion King film and not by Batista. Third, Rev Theory recorded the song “Voices” exclusively for Randy Orton and WWE to use. Hope this clears up any confusion.

Q: With CM Punk and almost every single member of the WWE Universe expressing extreme displeasure with the current WWE title belt design, why does the [company] insist on keeping the belt like that? – Kon from New York

A: Did you really just use the term WWE Universe in my mailbag? I’ll forgive you, but just this once. They have kept the current design as long as they have for two reasons. One, it is associated with John Cena’s character (although admittedly, it’s moreso his old rapper gimmick than the Marine gimmick he’s been using for the last few years) and Cena remains the face of the company. But the real reason probably has to do with the money they’ve been making off replica belt sales. I don’t have the exact figures, but if it wasn’t making them any money, they would have switched it up long ago. With WWE.com doing a two-part feature this week on essentially how dated the current design is, I’m hopeful a change is going to be made very soon.

Q: After reading that RVD wants to come back to WWE after his contract is up in TNA, I have a question. If you were Vince McMahon, would you bring back superstars like RVD, Mr. Kennedy, Kurt Angle or Jeff Hardy after going to TNA to trash talk WWE, saying the company sucks and they would never go back? – Elvir Bajric

A: I believe you are referring to a recent Tweet from Powerslam Magazine in the UK, which claimed that someone told them Rob Van Dam was seriously considering a return to WWE. We’ve heard nothing beyond that and RVD still has some time left on his TNA contract. Could it be true? Sure, but it would go against everything Van Dam has talked about with respect to having an easier schedule in TNA and also not having to deal with WWE’s Wellness Policy, which forbids the use of marijuana and any synthetic substitutes. Either he’s hard up for money or I just don’t buy it. As for bringing back old names that have trashed the company after leaving, if I’m Vince McMahon, I do what’s good for business. If he thinks he can make money off RVD and Jeff Hardy, then he will sign them (make no mistake, they would take Hardy back in a heartbeat). Except for Mister Anderson. I’d let him rot.

Q: It seems you don’t have to be 6’4 250 to mean something in WWE anymore. [Since] banning steroids, we’ve seen guys like Rhodes, Ziggler, Bryan and others get big pushes though only being around 200lbs. Do you think we will start to see more smaller guys getting big pushes or is Vince still stuck on the big guys like [Mason] Ryan? – Rob

A: Vince still has and will always have an infatuation with big guys. That has never changed and is why we have Mason Ryan on our TV each week, or why Jackson Andrews got brought up to TV only to be sent right back down because he was too green The reason smaller guys are getting opportunities to shine, besides them being very talented, is because WWE doesn’t really have any choice in the matter. There aren’t enough big, jacked up dudes talented enough to fill up an entire roster. They’ve gutted their own developmental system since severing ties with OVW and have no choice but to push guys like Ziggler, Rhodes, Bryan and Miz or else their company is going to be in a lot of trouble in the next few years. Even when they bring a guy up who *is* big and does have talent, but might not have that look they like (e.g. Husky Harris), they get sent right back down to Florida. Their entire mentality has to change.

Q: I just read a question on CM Punk on what he says when he comes to the ring, which brings me to Triple H. When he goes on the ropes after a win or before a match, I see him talking to the crowd, but for ten years now I can’t figure out what he says. Can you help me out with that? – Shaun Perez

A: I always thought he was repeating “Bow down to me, little jobbers” over and over again, but I could be wrong. Really, I think it’s just a bunch of gibberish, kind of like what Chris Jericho would mutter to himself whenever he walked to the ring.

Q: Back in 1998 when an influx of mid-carders debuted (Val Venis, The Godfather, Edge, and Salvatorre Sincere), I can vaguely recollect a wrestler debuting by the name of [Brakus]. He was billed as the German-suplex machine, and came to the ring with a manager (who I do not remember). He did not stay with the company very long, but I remember him being built up as WWE’s response to WCW’s Goldberg. He even wore traditional black tights and boots, and was mechanical like when coming down to the ring, no nonsense intensity. Years later when seeing Brock Lesnar debut, I immediately thought that [Brakus] returned and WWE repackaged him as “The Next Big Thing”. So was Lesnar’s gimmick a rebooted version of Brakus? Who was the German-suplex machine and what became of him? I can not find ANYTHING documenting his run ANYWHERE! I know I am not hallucinating, I swear on The Truth Commission. – Robby

A: You’re not hallucinating. Brakus was a German bodybuilder (surprise surprise) and former Mr. Olympia contestant with a great physique, but there was a slight problem. He couldn’t wrestle worth a shit and could barely speak English. “He’s Coming” vignettes featuring the guy actually began airing on TV in 1997, but to the best of my knowledge, he didn’t show up until the WWF’s Mayhem in Manchester PPV a week or so after WrestleMania 14, losing to Jeff Jarrett in the opening match (he may have had a loss to Goldust on “Shotgun Saturday Night” the month prior, but I can’t find footage of this). Around this same time, with Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman working together, he had a brief stint in ECW (as in one match where he lost to Taz). A few months later, he was embarrassed by Savio Vega in the opening round of the Brawl For All tournament. That killed whatever aura he may have had and after that, he had one match on Raw where he squashed Jesus of Los Boricuas and was done. In short, he was a big guy that Vince thought he could turn into a star and failed miserably. With Lesnar, he succeeded, but Lesnar was a star athlete with actual talent. If you want to learn about perhaps the most epic fail when it comes to big man hopes, look up Tom Magee.

Q: Why is Cody Rhodes now wearing knee pads? When did he start wearing them? – Trust

A: I believe he started at Survivor Series. It was all anybody was talking about in my section at MSG when he walked out. Hopefully he did it because someone smacked some sense into him and told him his career might last longer if he did.

Q: Have you played WWE ’12 yet? If so, what do you think of it? – James T.

A: WWE ’12? You mean there were 11 others before this!? I’ve got some catching up to do.

Keep those questions coming to [email protected] and remember to include your name!

Twitter War Erupts Between Vickie Guerrero & Karen Jarrett

136
Vickie Guerrero & Karen Jarrett

A war of words has erupted on Twitter between WWE manager Vickie Guerrero and TNA Knockout Karen Jarrett.

The whole thing started on Thursday night, when Vickie Guerrero re-tweeted the following message from one of her followers, which implied Karen Jarrett’s TNA character was a ripoff of Vickie:

“RT @KarenJarrett = @ExcuseMeWWE #TNAAwful.”

Karen Jarrett responded by re-tweeting a message from one of her own followers:

“RT @ExcuseMeWWE How is @karenjarrett copying you when she was on tv way befoe you ever was.”

Karen followed up with:

“Oh these twitter games……. Funny 2 me…2 people retweet 2 tweets & look at all the attention! LOL.”

For those wondering who is right here – Vickie Guerrero actually debuted on WWE television back in 2005, nearly two years before Karen Jarrett’s TNA television debut in 2007.

New Picture Of Batista Looking Absolutely Jacked

Austin Responds To Lesnar’s Trash Talking & Explains “Attitude”

23

Speaking to WWE Magazine, Steve Austin responds to Brock Lesnar telling ESPN.com during a recent interview promoting WWE ’12 that he was “downright scared” to face him on the June 10, 2002 Raw (Austin balked facing Lesnar, feeling the marquee bout lacked proper buildup. Ultimately, he declined to attend Raw, briefly leaving WWE).

Austin responds, “It wasn’t a Brock issue at all. It was a stupid business decision, and I flew off the handle. I was wound up pretty tight at the time. I thought they [WWE] were poking me with a stick, and I admittedly handled that in the worst possible way. It never had anything to do with Brock Lesnar—it was just a stupid business decision, and although I handled it wrong, there wasn’t anyone in that company who can tell me it was a smart move to me in that match with no build and blow a total marquee pay-per-view or rivalry that could have lasted God knows how long!

“I don’t have any problems with anything Brock said. He’s got his take on things. And anytime you can flap your gums and stir things up—well, I’m always about that.”

CM Punk’s rant on the June 27, 2011 edition of Raw emboldened a vocal audience looking to return to the edgier tone of “The Attitude Era.” That, coupled with The Rock’s return to the ring, has created a division between people longing for the days of yesteryear and supporters of the current product. Austin comments on what “attitude” means to him.

“It’s funny to me that “The Attitude Era” was named that way. Guys and gals in this business have always had attitude. But for some reason, I started cutting off-the-hook promos, and someone wanted to label it ‘The Attitude Era.’ It’s an interesting way to reference that time, but WWE has always had over-the-top, extreme attitudes. I don’t think the answer is creating something different, or bringing back the The Attitude Era. I think you need to let these cats fly. Kick them out of the nest to see if they can survive. The cream will rise to the top and the weak is going to fall by the wayside because this is a competitive environment. That’s the only way to bring any edge back into the product. It’s about letting guys fly, talking from their hearts, and their guts, and their brains. That’s what makes for exciting TV. It ain’t about ‘attitude.’ End of story.”

“30 Rock is probably my favorite show on network television. Judah Friedlander is a buddy of mine. Judah presented me as one of Jenna’s cool new friends. I’m not only on the show, but I’m on as 1997 Mankind, and I do have a kissing scene, so it was a win-win. I’ll also be showing up on Celebrity Wife Swap in a couple of months.”

– WWE has released the following video hyping the 2011 Slammy Awards, which will take place on the upcoming 3-hour RAW on 12/12:

Dolph Ziggler Talks About His Career, His Match With Punk & More

31

WWE United States Champion Dolph Ziggler was interviewed by The Miami Herald this week. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Being Taken Off The Main Roster Twice: “It’s a little scary, no matter how good you think you are or no matter how much you’re progressing. Anytime you’re taken off the full-time roster, and you have to kind of start over and work on your craft some more, when you’re off TV, it’s scary. I told myself if I got another chance, if, then I would be 100 percent ready to go. I went to two practices a day. I was watching my tapes. I didn’t want to come back and have them say, ‘Hey, let’s give this guy a shot. Oh, he’s OK.’ I wanted, ‘Wow, this guy could be the best ever,’ and that’s what I’m striving for.

“I was lucky enough to come back, and I’ve been lucky enough to prove a bunch of people wrong, and now I go out there and when I walk back to the locker room, and it’s tough [for those wrestling next on the show] to follow my match.”

Learning from Rey Mysterio: “When I was working by myself, I got a good chance to get in the ring with Rey Mysterio, when I was virtually an unknown. I got a good chance to get in there and learn from him and actually got a chance to steal the show, even if it was mostly Rey Mysterio and everyone knowing him. I said, ‘From here on out, I want that reaction every single time.’ So every time I went back out, I couldn’t wait to out-do myself, until one day I was the main star in the ring and someone’s trying to hang with me.”

His recent RAW match with CM Punk: “A lot of people enjoyed the match, and my family and friends liked it. Honestly, since last Monday, I haven’t been able to sleep that well, because I really wanted that match to be one of the best ever, and it wasn’t. So I have something to build toward, and hopefully we’ll get to do it on a big stage, and if we do, I know we will tear the house down. I know it.”

Check out these highlights from Ziggler’s match with CM Punk from RAW last week:

– Regarding John Cena’s “new look” that we featured here on the site on Thursday (view here) – we can all breath a sigh of relief, as it’s not a permanent change. Cena whipped fans into a frenzy when he appeared at WWE’s live event from Japan wearing red and white “Zubaz” pants – and set the record straight on Twitter:

“Had a great time in japan. Second night was throwback night. All hail “the dangerous man” Doug Bloodstone!”

Not sure exactly what the Doug Bloodstone reference is all about – let us know in the comments section below if you do.

– Japanese wrestlers Yoshihiro Takayama and Nosawa were in attendance for the RAW live event in Japan yesterday. After CM Punk defeated Alberto Del Rio in the main event, Takayama raised Punks arm from the crowd.

– Here are some key business metrics for WWE during October, courtesy of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

  • Average Domestic Live Event Attendance: 4.607 people.
  • WWE’s website’s total unique visitors: 2.8 million (down 10.5% from October 2010)
  •  WWE’s shop website averaged 710 orders per day.
