Developmental Wrestler Released, Update On Andy Leavine

11

The official website of Florida Championship Wrestling has removed developmental wrestler Rodney Thomas from their roster section, which would indicate that he has been released from his contract with WWE.

Thomas, previously known as “Shotgun” Brock Barker on the Canadian independent wrestling scene, is a graduate of Lance Storm’s professional wrestling academy in Calgary, Alberta. He signed a developmental contract with WWE earlier this year following a tryout.

Meanwhile, Tough Enough winner Andy Leavine has been added to their roster under the name Kevin Hackman. Photos of Leavine holding the Tough Enough Championship are enclosed but no mention is made of the Florida native winning the reality television series.

Leavine has been training at their Tampa facility since June, during which he was reportedly suspended for a violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program. He has since returned to action.

Gail Kim Says She Knew She’d Return To TNA

12

Diva Dirt caught up with the woman of the moment, Gail Kim, Monday for an exclusive interview about her return to TNA, quitting WWE and much more.

Gail made a “kimpact”, if you will, when she returned to Impact Wrestling last Thursday on Spike TV — and was even a worldwide trending topic on Twitter!

In this 50 minute interview, Gail discusses her return to the company she calls “home”, reveals more details about her time in WWE, frustration at the way the Divas are used and more.

Gail, who is due to marry TV chef Robert Irvine (Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible) next year, also reveals an upcoming TV project: an episode of TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress” which she filmed a month or so ago.

On her return to TNA: “During the time that Johnny [John Laurinaitis] said that he wanted to re-sign me, I already kinda knew that I didn’t want to re-sign and it was just a matter of timing because I was under contract. That was pretty much my plan the whole entire time; to go back to TNA.”

“Everybody was very positive and happy and said, ‘We’re so glad to have you back’. First off, I’m really happy that they were happy to see me back. The first thing I always said was, ‘You know, I already knew I’d be back’. I even said it in my last interview on the [Knockouts] DVD – hopefully, I’ll finish my career there. That’s always what I pictured, anyway. […] I always hoped for the best there [in WWE], obviously, and it didn’t turn out the way I had pictured completely, but I’m back where I pictured I would be. I’m just happy with the way everything turned out.”

“I’m a true believer in everything happens for a reason. I was meant to leave there [TNA] at that time. […] I think it was a refresher in some ways, too, for me to leave and try something else and then come back to where my home was.”

On the growth of the Knockouts division since her last run: “Well, there’s a lot more girls, it seems like. We had a lot of girls back then, but we have a lot of girls now. […] I love it because the girls there are all from pretty much an independent background. You get to the point where you’re happy to be in a division where you know the girls can step it up, and that you can have a challenging match, and that you guys can rock the house, basically.”

On whether she made the right decision to quit WWE: “I’m very confident in my decision making. Everything happens for a reason. I made this decision for a reason. It’s supposed to happen.”

“I don’t regret anything. I always had to accept what they gave me. It wasn’t even about how they used me because I knew going in, I had to accept whatever they gave me & how they used me. It was more about the disrespect behind the scenes, and that’s what pushed me over the edge to say, ‘I just don’t wanna be here anymore. I’m miserable. I just have to leave for my own sanity’.”

On quitting instead of waiting for her contract to run its course: “I was pretty much at my wit’s end at that point. […] For my own sanity, like I said, I had to leave. I knew seven weeks out from my contract end, ‘Okay well, you know what? I know that I can survive financially, and take a little break, and be with my fiancé’. Him and I both discussed it because it’s a decision for both of us as well, for our lives. I just couldn’t take it anymore mentally or emotionally. Physically, no problem. But on the other end, you can’t go to work and feel like you’re just dreading it. I just didn’t wanna go to work anymore. I’ll miss my friends and the people there, but that’s about it. You can’t contribute to a company when you don’t feel passion anymore. It’s a waste of time.”

Gail talks about much more in the interview including working with Karen Jarrett and Madison Rayne in TNA, which WWE Divas she’d like to see in TNA, WWE controlling its Superstars & Divas and the projects they can do, her first match back on Impact with Tara this Thursday and much, much more.

The interview is available here.

*Spoiler* Plans For Hogan Next’s Scheduled Wrestling Match

This led to Eric hitting his son with a steel chair following the match, starting a rivalry between the two.

Todd Grisham Apologizes For Offensive Tweets

25

Former WWE announcer Todd Grisham, who recently debuted as a commentator for ESPN, made some racially-insensitive comments over the weekend on Twitter and followed up with an apology.

While talking about college football game over the weekend between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Tech, Grisham referred to the “trail of tears” while talking about the Sooners’ loss.

The “trail of tears” historically refers to the American Cherokee Indian tribe being forcibly removed from their land back in 1830, where thousands died.

Grisham received a lot of negative feedback from other Twitter followers – and responded by saying, “The historical reference didn’t even cross my mind.”

He added that his great grandmother was a “full-blooded Cherokiee” and said he’s proud of his Native American heritage.

WrestleMania 27 Brought $62 Million To Atlanta

4

WWE sent out the following press release on Monday, touting the tremendous economic effect WrestleMania has for its host city:

WrestleMania(R) Makes Record $62 Million for Atlanta

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct 24, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — WWE(R) announced today that WrestleMania XXVII generated $62.1 million in economic impact for the city of Atlanta, according to a study conducted by the Enigma Research Corporation.

This is a new record for WrestleMania’s economic impact, and a $17 million increase over WrestleMania XXVI. WrestleMania XXVII also generated approximately $7.8 million in local, state and county taxes.

“We are proud to have partnered with an organization that not only helped significantly contribute to the economy of Atlanta, but also gave back to the community in a multitude of ways,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. “WrestleMania Week brought tens of thousands of fans from across the world to our great city and furthered Atlanta’s reputation as one of the sports and entertainment capitals of the world. We look forward to the possibility of hosting a future WrestleMania.”

“WWE is thrilled that the city of Atlanta and the great state of Georgia were the recipients of the largest economic windfall to date for WrestleMania,” said John P. Saboor, Senior Vice President of Special Events for WWE. “We would like to thank Mayor Reed and all of the public and private sector partners in Atlanta for embracing WWE and our worldwide fans, and for helping create an exceptional outcome for WrestleMania XXVII.”

A capacity crowd of 71,617 fans from all 50 states and 30 countries attended WWE’s pop culture extravaganza this past April. Key highlights from the study included:

— $62.1 million of direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending by non-locals visiting specifically for WrestleMania XXVII.

— 75% of fans that attended WrestleMania were from outside the Atlanta area, with 61% staying three nights or more.

— The economic impact derived from WrestleMania Week equated to the creation of 621 full-time jobs for the area.

— 52% of fans that attended WrestleMania were between the ages of 20 and 34, 21% were under the age of 20 and 20% were between the ages of 35 and 49.

“WrestleMania XXVII was a tremendous success and provided a positive financial impact on metro Atlanta,” said Dan Corso, Atlanta Sports Council Executive Director. “This is a noteworthy example of our city’s collaborative ability to recruit and successfully host major sporting events, and it hopefully bodes well for securing a future WrestleMania.”

Next year, WrestleMania XXVIII will take place Sunday, April 1 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL. The main event will feature John Cena(R) taking on The Rock(R) in an epic encounter. The event will be broadcast on pay-per-view, and viewed in more than 100 countries. Tickets go on sale Saturday, November 5 at 10 AM EST through all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

Enigma Research Corporation is an international consulting firm which specializes in measuring the economic impact of special events. Enigma’s economists developed a customized model which converted expenditures into economic impact, employment created and taxes generated as a result of the event.

The Rock’s WWE TV Return, More On Mask vs. Mask

11

– There has been talk of having The Rock show up at next week’s RAW Supershow on Halloween. That show will be hosted by The Muppets.

While Rock’s appearance next week is just rumored at this point – the next show that The Rock is confirmed to appear is the upcoming 3-hour RAW from Boston. Rock tweeted on Monday morning:

“Finally The Rock has come back to.. BOSTON! 11/14/11. “RAW Gets ROCKED”. #BootsToAssesInBeantown”

– As noted last week, WWE officials went back and forth on whether or not to hold the Mask vs. Mask match at last week’s SmackDown tapings in Mexico City. Even after the match was announced, WWE creative changed their mind about holding the match at least 3 separate times.

WWE announced the match hoping to spark ticket sales in Mexico, which were slower than expected. A “Mask vs. Mask” match is considered the ultimate culmination of a feud in Mexico – and many questioned whether they should jump to that conclusion so early into the Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara feud. The match was held, Black Sin Cara was unmasked, and most were disappointed by the rushed-nature of the event.

Shawn Michaels & DX Possibly Returning to WWE TV

At Sunday’s Vegneance pay-per-view, Kevin Nash made a surprise return and brutally attacked Triple H. There was a lot of talk backstage at Vengeance that Michaels could return to television and get involved in the Nash-Triple H storyline.

For what it’s worth, WWE is planning to release several new pieces of DX merchandise soon.

John Cena Debuts New Ring Gear, Honors The Troops

29

A number of United States servicemen were in attendence at Sunday’s WWE Vengeance pay-per-view – visiting from the nearby Fort Hood military base.

John Cena debuted a new “Rise Above Hate” t-shirt and debuted a new pair of camouflage shorts, a departure from his signature “jorts” jean shorts ring gear.

The WWE website has a gallery of pictures from Vengeance, including pictures of his new “Rise Above Hate” t-shirt and camouflage shorts, which you can view here.

Cena announced on Twitter a few months ago that he is planning to change his often-mocked ring gear.

At this point, its unknown whether Cena’s camo shorts are a permanent change – or just a tribute to the Fort Hood soldiers who were in attendance.

Cena’ new “Rise Above Hate” t-shirt is available at the WWE Shop website. Also available are “Rise Above Hate” sweatbands, baseball caps and pendants.
