Jim Ross Evaluates TNA On Monday Nights

6

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross posted a new batch of Q&A’s on his JRsBarBQ.com website with his thoughts on the current state of TNA Wrestling.

Ross says there’s a long road ahead for TNA if they really want to compete with WWE and offers some suggestions on how to tweak their current approach:

“I think that TNA has a lot of work to do before they can begin to find the success that they need and want.” Perhaps starting an hour before Raw might help them. Obviously producing an alternative product is imperative. Their replay on Thursdays isn’t a bad idea but Spike really needs to commit with promotional time to give their wrestling product a fighting chance.”

As for people who are expecting that TNA would be doing much bigger ratings on Monday nights from the beginning, Ross implies that TNA’s (approximate) 1.0 rating isn’t a bad thing.

“Spike averages a .7 rating so why would anyone think it realistic that TNA is going to increase the network average 200% or so?”

Edge Promotes WrestleMania, How Old Is Evan Bourne?, More

3

— Edge appeared on multiple FOX affiliates yesterday promoting WrestleMania, discussing his Achilles tendon recovery, his television feud with Chris Jericho.

During his interview with WTTG FOX 5, the SmackDown Superstar talked about David Beckham similarly suffering an Achilles tendon injury recently, saying he can relate.

“It’s been about a month-and-a half I’ve been back now. It was one of those injuries that really tests your patience and it was probably the worst one I’ve had,” Edge said. “I felt sorry for him (Beckham) when I saw it because you don’t expect it and all of a sudden you’re standing there and it goes.”

You can view video of his interview with WTTG FOX 5 at the following link. You can also see Edge’s appearance on Good Day Tampa Bay here.

Steve Austin Says He Watches TNA, Update On Orlando Jordan

6

— On Twitter, when asked whether he watches TNA Wrestling, Steve Austin replied: “yes i do watch TNA. lots of friends there. they have some good talent.”

He also said last week that “they will never catch WWE” and felt they needed to be different than them. However, he also wished them luck and said competition is good.

— It’s worth noting that Orlando Jordan has not appeared on TNA programming in over a month — not since the Feb. 18th edition of iMPACT! when he garnered a shocking victory over Samoa Joe. Though his character has not been featured since, he continues to tell people that he will play a bisexual character on television. Furthermore, the decision to not air footage of Jordan and his male companion groping one another during his Feb. 18 ring entrance was actually made while it was happening live, according to a company source. (source: www.pwtorch.com)

— According to the official TNA website, Rob Terry vs. Brutus Magnus for the TNA Global Championship is back on for Sunday’s Destination X pay-per-view. The match was removed earlier in the week but is once again being advertised.

JR Blog: His Contract, Is He Calling WM? Chair Shots

5

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com with an update on his WWE contract status, WWE banning chair shots to the head, Steve Austin and more. Some highlights:

His WWE Contract Status: “I’ve also I read where I signed a new contract with WWE, I hope to BTW, however that is also wrong as what I signed was a contract extension to take us through the end of April. Re-signing with WWE is my top priority and I hope that we can get another, long term deal done sooner than later.”

WWE Banning Chair Shots to the Head: “Nice to see WWE focus on eliminating chair shots to the heat of their athletes. I blogged about this several weeks ago which I am sure means nothing in regard to this decision being made. Some asked if I thought this mandate was ‘politically motivated’ to which I emphatically say hell, no. It simply makes common sense and the overall health of the competitors has to be any companies utmost priority.”

Is He Calling WrestleMania? “It seems that many within the wrestling media know more about my Wrestlemania assignment that do I. I still don’t know what I’m specifically and officially doing in Phoenix but as I mentioned I am just happy to be attending the event. So for those of you that may read what my role is going to be in conjunction with WM26, and insiders might be correct at the end of the day, just for the record and as of today I don’t know. However, if you get any more inside info please share it. I need to know what to pack.”

Jeff Hardy Legal Update, Kong Gone From TNA

7

– TNA star Jeff Hardy appeared in court on Wednesday for the latest hearing regarding his September 11, 2009 drug arrest. The judge presiding over the case in Cameron, N.C. agreed to the defense’s request for a continuance, according to prowrestling.net. The next hearing is scheduled for May 10, 2010. Hardy is expected to continue working for TNA in the meantime.

– Multiple sources are reporting that Awesome Kong and TNA Wrestling have agreed to part ways. Her profile has been removed from TNA’s website, which is their unofficial way of confirming a wrestler’s departure from the company. They do not publicly comment on roster changes.

It was reported last week that Kong was telling friends within the industry that the company had agreed to release her from her contract. This coincides with a recent Twitter post where she thanked Dixie Carter and TNA Wrestling for wishing her the best in her future endeavors. She had reportedly been asking for a fifteen percent pay increase or a contractual release, with company officials opting for the latter.

One of the holdups in her release becoming official is that TNA wanted to include a lengthy non-compete agreement, while she was asking for the traditional ninety-day non-compete. Sources are unaware of the length of the non-compete agreement that will be enforced. She is the fourth female performer to part ways with the company this year, following Alissa Flash, Roxxi and Traci Brooks.

Matt Morgan Interview: TNA vs. WWE, Dixie Carter

11

Monday Night Mayhem radio with Matt Morgan
Hosts: Big Mosh, Blade, Todd Vincent
Recap by: Paterson from New Jersey
Audio Available at MondayNightMayhem.com.

Here are some highlights from Matt Morgan’s appearance on this week’s Monday Night Mayhem internet radio show:

His New Cocky Attitude: “As far as my cocky character it’s like this, they had no plans on making me a babyface after my series with Kurt Angle. They had no intention whatsoever, but what started to happen slowly but surely is Kurt is so good at being a heel, that people just loathe him. When he’s a heel, people hate him, and he’s the best in the world at what he does…he really is.

“That and people started to get my character. Whether it was cocky or not, they started to get it, and I’ll be the first to tell you, I’m very cocky when it comes to sports and pro wrestling is no different. When I first started in TNA, I had a babyface run for a little while with Abyss as a tag team, and that was good, but my character wasn’t really showing. I was holding back a lot of my natural persona and natural cockiness, and I think that was confusing for fans who wanted to get behind me.”

The Backstage Mood In TNA Since Hogan’s Arrival: “So far everyone who has come in has been cool. Time will tell as far as the gist of our overall locker room is. That’s something people take into concern when a lot of new people come in. When one or two come in, that’s one thing, but when five or ten come in, that could change a locker room dynamic awfully fast, but not fast enough where I could tell it to you right now whether it’s changed. Individually dealing with these people, I couldn’t deal with any better people, and I don’t know Dixie Carter would hire anybody who would rock our locker room.

“Morale is very important to her despite what fans may say. She wants us to have a good workplace to come to, and she wants us to be excited when we come there, and I don’t think that’s a hard request for people to fill. You should be happy to come work at TNA, and I think she wants people that is going to come to work with a smile on their face who actually want to be there, not people who are bitching about how they are booked, or being cancerous to our locker room, or say they are not getting paid this or that. I don’t think you are going to last long if that is your attitude in our locker room, and so far, I haven’t seen any of that.”

iMPACT! On Monday Nights & Dixie Carter: “Time will tell as far as this goes being on Monday nights. My owner, she has balls of steel as far as taking risks and chances. And I remember as a wrestling fan what I liked during the WCW/WWE battles was the chances being taken, the storyline pushing the envelope risks especially. I’m just excited ours has the belief in the wrestlers, and that’s first and foremost. We don’t have a owner that craps on us, and talks down to us, and makes us walk around on eggshells.

We have a owner that wants every single one of us to make a lot of money and be successful, because collectively, she’ll be successful because the company will be on top by that point. All I can tell fans of TNA is wait and see. Just take a wait and see approach and come along on the journey with us, because we are the first wrestling company that’s giving you an option and a choice, and not jamming things down your throat and telling you ‘This is what you like.’ I think it’s egotistical and rude, and we don’t do that.”

The attitude within TNA since the arrivals of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff: “For me personally, I love it. They came on board full bore with a positive vibe…a positive attitude, and you could sense it. When I talk to Terry or Eric, you get a vibe. You get a vibe from certain people, you get a vibe of whether they are in this to win it, or whether they’re here to make a quick paycheck and bounce. The vibe I get from both of them is they wanna come in here and make a lot of us household names to be honest, and I’m going along for the journey.

“I believe Hulk Hogan; I don’t believe he is a liar, and I believe what he says. As it pertains to myself, I have no doubt he is going to help me get to the promised land. And with Eric, I love watching when Eric is watching the actual product. I’ll watch him watch the screen and making notes and mental notes on what they could do different. So it’s pretty cool to see that he’s constantly trying to change our product to improve it, because we can’t stay the way we are now. We are a ever-evolving product, and to have someone with a vision like Eric is gonna be huge.”

His Message to WWE: “Let’s all make money…period. Step your game up, because I know we are, and then in the long run, everyone is going to make money. Any wrestler, including in the WWE, wants us to do well. Of course they want us to do well, because everyone wants another place as a option to work. What’s the first thing you hear with guys that were in the WWE and came to TNA (not the guys that came here and flamed out quick, but those guys that have been here for two to three years), what’s the first thing you hear?

The locker room dynamic is hugely different, the boss is different, and the schedule is easier. But most importantly, the guys are willing to help each other. Guys are willing to put each other over to create a new star, and that happens weekly.”

More is contained in this exclusive interview with “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan, including why he chose to sign a five-year contract with TNA Wrestling instead of going back to the WWE or Japan, his response to those who feel that a split between himself and Hernandez is inevitable (and thus, losing the TNA World Tag Team Titles in the process), if he was upset about not being on last Monday’s iMPACT for TNA’s first night of head-to-head competition with WWE Monday Night RAW, how important his charitable work/endeavors are to him, and so much more!

TNA iMPACT! Replay to Air Thursday Night

3

A replay of Monday’s TNA Impact will air Thursday night on Spike TV at 9PM (ET).

The network was originally scheduled to air a movie in that time slot, but apparently the decision was made today to replay Monday’s iMPACT! instead.

Update: TNA President Dixie Carter just wrote the following on Twitter: “The large # of viewers to watch iMPACT! replay last week made Spike want to re-air the show again tonight.”

SEScoops Commentary: This is a great move by Spike TV. Last week’s Thursday replay drew the same rating as the Monday night airing. Some felt that TNA cutting out the Thursday night replay would make fans watch the Monday show, but after this week’s 0.8 rating, TNA can’t afford to turn away an additional million plus viewers seeing their show later in the week. One could make the argument that a Thursday replay would take away from the Monday rating .. While there is some overlap in viewership, there’s also tons of viewers who only watched the Thursday show last week, so its crazy to cut into the overall audience.

Shawn Michaels Reportedly Telling Friends He's Retiring

0

source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Shawn Michaels has been telling friends as of late he plans on retiring at WrestleMania. His contract is set to expire soon and he has talked about wanting to spend more time with his children as they grow up.

Michaels himself has made noise about retiring in recent years, to the point that WWE actually scripted jokes about it on Raw. After taking time off in 2008, he made noise about deciding not to come back. Like previous times he’d taken time off, WWE would call him back to return and he would. He also said in a radio interview last year that he had told the company his retirement date (which at the time was this year’s WrestleMania). On the other hand, he’s brought up the idea of wrestling well into his fifties, though only a match or two per year.

Michaels is not advertised for any shows past the night after WrestleMania when Raw emanates from the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Kong Open To Staying With TNA, Update On Traci's Release

0

— Though Awesome Kong has been telling friends she is leaving TNA, she has yet to be officially released. She is still listed on the company’s roster page and fellow Knockout Tara noted over the weekend on her Twitter account that Kong has not been released. TNA officials have refused to publicly comment on the matter.

Kong has been telling friends she is open to reconciling with TNA and staying on board. However, she has expressed her displeasure over not being able to discuss her problems with TNA president Dixie Carter.

Kong was not backstage at last week’s iMPACT tapings.

— One company source noted that the recently released Traci Brooks did herself no favors with a recent sloppy in-performance against Hamada — which aired on Xplosion. However, Brooks stressed online that her dismissal was simply a case of creative not having anything for her.

— Tonight’s episode of Wrestlicious Takedown will see three TNA Knockouts participating in a single match as Amber Lively (a/k/a Madison Rayne) and Lacey Von Erich squaring off against Draculetta (a/k/a Daffney) and White Magic in tag action. You can catch the show at 11:00 p.m. on MavTV.
