Jerry Lawler Says Jim Ross Could Return At WrestleMania

1

WWE announcer Jerry Lawler tells the UK Sun that even if Jim Ross is healthy and able to return to work in the coming months, WWE will probably hold off on bringing him back to the announcer’s table until WrestleMania 26 next year.

“There’s a strong possibility that WrestleMania could be when he makes a return,” Lawler said. “Even if it’s a situation where he could return a little bit before that, it might be best to just wait and let him come back at Mania — as the comeback of JR would be a big draw.”

Lawler repeated what JR said in a recent blog, that it will two or three months to become “facially ready” for TV again. Lawler says Ross’s voice sounds fine over the phone and someone on the other end wouldn’t know he’s only able to talk out of one side of his mouth.

“I texted him last night, and spoke with him this past week, and he’s doing better but says it will probably be a few months before he’s facially ready to be back on television,” Lawler said. “But when you talk to him, when you just hear his voice, you can’t tell. He doesn’t have slurred speech any more.”

Another Update On Brock Lesnar's Health & UFC Future

0

UFC President Dana White spoke to Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday and provided yet another update on Brock Lesnar’s health status. While it was reported earlier this week that Lesnar was suffering from a bacterial infection in his intestines, it turns out he actually had a hole in his intestine and has not been 100% for an entire year.

“Brock was in big pain, he was hurting…. We don’t know if he’ll ever fight again. He had a hole in his intestine. The (stuff) was leaking into his stomach. That’s what was causing him so much pain. That and he had abscesses. The doctor told him he hasn’t been right for a year. His immune system has been trying to fight this thing and that’s why he was susceptible to getting sick…. We’ll find out more next week. We’re going to send him to the Mayo Clinic for a couple of days. I don’t know what to say. It’s looking better now than last week, but what that means, I don’t know.”

Brock Lesnar is scheduled to visit the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN early next week for a battery of tests. His trainer Greg Nelson spoke to the Star Tribune this week and sasid, “No one can tell, but it seems right now it’s something he’ll definitely recover from.” While this should be considered good news, Nelson stressed that it’s too early to tell when Lesnar will fight again.

Gabe Sapolsky Rips WWE's Product, Chris Jericho Responds

Former ROH and ECW booker Gabe Sapolsky attended the Tuesday’s WWE SmackDown tapings in Philadelphia and wrote a message on MySpace explaining what he thinks is wrong with WWE’s product. Sapolsky agrees with recent comments Eric Bischoff made in a PWTorch.com interview, that the WWE product is over-produced and the superstars act like generic, robotic zombies. He wrote:

I stopped by the Smackdown taping last night and left after CM Punk’s promo. Punk was great, but the taping sucked. Most of the wrestlers were robotic (stop at top of ramp, pose, walk into ring, ignore entire crowd and turn to hard cam, pose, turn back to ramp and wait for opponent). Everything was formulaic. I sat there for two hours from the opening bell waiting through dead time between matches and endless videos before Smackdown actually started. However, it wasn’t all bad as Tommy Dreamer is still over in Philly and Punk is a superstar. Anyway, my point. I saw some crappy wrestling lately that turned me off to the business.

WWE Superstar Chris Jericho wrote a message on Twitter in response to Sapolsky’s comments:

Dammit if Gabe Sopolsky wasn’t impressed, then what chance does the WWE have to survive even one more day??? Breadline, here I come…

Sapolsky resonded to Jericho’s sarcasm and said  when WWE went out of business, Jericho could come work for Dragon Gate USA and invited the WWE superstar to attend one of their upcoming dates.

Dec. 14, 2009: Dennis Miller

Planned WM26 Match, Hall Of Famer Knocks Linda McMahon

7

– The Undertaker vs. John Cena is one of the planned main-event’s for WrestleMania 26, according to F4WOnline.com. The groundwork for potential matchup was set on this past Monday’s RAW when Cena received a tombstone after the main-event match had ended.

– According to sources, WrestleMania 27 is looking to be held in Toronto at the Rogers Centre. WWE is still weighing other options including Miami, Indianapolis and Atlanta and an official decision should be made soon.

– During an interview with the Hartford Courant, WWE Hall of Famer “Superstar” Billy Graham hit out at Linda McMahon and her run for senate. “She may look like a Sunday school teacher,” Graham said. “Linda McMahon’s hands are as bloody as her husband’s because she is aware of every move in the ring.” Graham said WWE has changed their colors and deceived the public before Linda’s run for Senate. He cites the lack of blood, Divas posing for Playboy and the lack of bra and panties matches as examples.

Briscoe Brothers Get WWE Tryout, Kofi-MSG

1

– Former Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions The Briscoe Brothers and independent wrestler Papadon received tryouts with WWE in front of Vince McMahon and others before last night’s television tapings in Philadelphia.

– The advertised dark main event for next week’s three-hour RAW in Hershey, PA is DX and John Cena vs. Randy Orton, Chris Jericho and Big Show.

– Paul Burchill and Katie Lea are now gone from the ECW brand after The Hurricane defeated Burchill on tonight’s ECW. If Hurricane would have lost the match, he would have had to remove his mask.

– It appears Vickie Guerrero is still with Eric Escobar, despite previous reports. Vickie accompanies Escobar to the ring this week on WWE Superstars for a match against Jimmy Wang Yang.

– Kofi Kingston posted the following messages on Twitter from New York City on Monday:

“Shooting a commercial in ny before the show. Busy day! But busy is good people. Busy is good.” and “Wow. MSG was absolutely 100% amazing. To wrestle in a venue with such history is truly an honor.”

– Regarding her surprise appearance before the crowd at Madison Square Garden last night for RAW, Lilian Garcia posted the following on Twitter:

“Just sang the National Anthem at Madison Sq Garden before WWE Raw!! Felt so good 2 c everyone!! Crowd was awesome! Thks for the love!!”

– Sherri Shepherd, star of “The View,” and a guest in attendance at RAW last night, was apparently struck in the head with the book that Shawn Michaels threw at her during the DX segment. Shepherd posted the following on her Twitter page:

She later posted:

“I didn’t hear Triple H shout me out form the ring… I had my head down tweeting, which is why the book hit me in the head.”

Live Report From An SEScoops Reader Who Was At Raw

Monday Night Raw Recap (from ADementedJim/Jim Aronson) from Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

The WWE returned to Madison Square Garden in New York with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper as the Guest-GM.  The house was rocking, as the Garden was either a sell-out or at 98% capacity!  And boy, did we show them the “New York Attitude.”

Here are the results, reactions, and the best Pops and Heat of the night…..

Dark Match:
Primo vs. Ted Diabase Jr.
Not much of a crowd reaction for this one, but Dibase gets the win.

Superstars Taping:
Cody Rhodes vs. Mark Henry
Henry was WAY over, major Pops, and the crowd was into it, as “The World’s Strongest Man” got the win.

BIGGEST POP OF THE NIGHT:
Lilian Garcia returned to the Garden to sing the National Anthemn…..She receives a standing ovation!

Before Raw went on the air, a montage was shown highlighting all the good works that the WWE has dome over the years.  Celebrities and Politicians are shown who have appeared on Raw.
BIGGEST MONTAGE POP:  Barack Obama
BIGGEST MONTAGE HEAT: John Cena (for the record, New York HATES Cena…..)

Raw kicks off (finally), and Piper is shown in his Pit with actor Luiz Guzman.  Very funny segment, and the Garden crowd flips when Piper introduces the Iron Chef, err Sheik…..

Miz vs. MVP
Crowd heavily for MVP, but he goes down to the Miz in defeat.

Chavo vs. Santino
I am not sure how well it played on TV, but Santino’s multiple wardrobe cahnges went over HUGE in the Garden.  He comes out in A Ranger jersey, then it’s a Giants jersey, then Jets, then Mets, Phillies (?), and of course Yankees!  (Big Yankee contingent in the Garden…)
Santino gets a long-overdue win with help from DXSwoggle…

Hornswoggle-DX Segment
Crowd just knew Horny was in trouble here–and loud pops when he got pedigreed…

John Cena promo
Crowd was so loud you could barely hear him at the beginning  (Are they any Cena fans here tonight?)

DIVA’S TITLE MATCH:
First off, who in the hell is Judah Freelander?  The crowd just hated this guy…..
Melina beats Alicia to keep the belt….(and boy, did I have a great view of the Champ’s entrance…)
Match was much too short however….No time to build a story with these two….My guess is Alicia’s title challenger days are done.

Piper in-ring segment
Good heat between the Boss Vince and Piper, but totally embarrassing when Piper screwed up having 7000 car crashes, and 30 matches!  And exactly, how do you retire someone in FULL?  (Me thinks Piper has lost some of his classic mike skills…)

Seamus
The guy comes out, and yes, he does look whiter than a ghost!  But what was the point of this segment?  He makes an open challenge, and no one answers it.  So he beats up the timekeeper and then kicks out Jerry Lawler.  This would have been so much better had someone done a run-in, or even if they had a Lawler-Seamus match later in the night…..What a waste, and it took a lot of steam out of the New York crowd.

Bourne-Swaggart
Crowd solidly behind Bourne; Swaggart had NO REACTION from the crowd…..(You could have heard a pin drop when he was announced.)
Swaggart gets the win and creeps away to the back.

Piper-McMahon?
No McMahon, and when Orton comes out, New York fans were all over him…..You could see Piper’s fate before a punch was thrown.  Thankfully, this debacle was saved by…..Kofi Kingston.  (One note:  Orton’s attempt to kick Piper looked even worse live than it did on TV.  They needed to play Kofi’s music earlier, as Orton stopped from kicking Piper about two seconds before Kofi’s music even hit.  So, now we KNEW he was coming!)

Now the crowd was flipping out!  Kingston and Orton fight all over the arena….When Kofi eventually leaps off the section wall with the bone drop onto Orton, the crowd is out of its mind!  Totally awesome!

TRIPLE-THREAT TAG MATCH

Major heat on Jerishow as Jericho talks all kinds of crap about New York…..Definitely a DX crowd here;
Cena again, get booed excessively everytime he gets on a screen or in a ring in the Garden.
Match was good, but much of the crowd was disappointed as they really wanted to see The Undertaker and he spent most of the match out of the ring and out of sight…
Cena gets the pin (and more boos), but for his efforts receives a Tombstone from the Taker.   Crowd is estatic again, and can go home happy….

AFTER RAW WENT OFF THE AIR:

Once the ring cleared, DX grabbed a handicapped boy out of the crowd, and let him do the DX Chop with them in the ring.  They then shook hands and hugged with all the fans around ringside.

BIGGEST POPS:
1. Lilian Garcia
2. The Undertaker
3. Santino Marella
4. Kofi Kingston’s leap
5. The Iron Sheik

BIGGEST HEAT:
1. John Cena
2. John Cena
3. Chris Jericho
4. George Bush (in the WWE Montage video)
5. The Miz

JR Blog: Kofi Kingston Stepping Up, WWE Announcers

7
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross
WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Some highlights:

WWE’s Production Value: “WWE’s TV people hit home runs with their new music, graphics packages, and the overall “look” of the show on HD.  I like the short, smaller set as WWE used the short, live event entrance for the show instead of the long ramp entrance which kills a bunch of seats. Over 20,000 fans were in the Garden Monday night of which we heard on multiple occasions. We may have heard it with such regularity that I thought we might might be the audio daily double at the end of the night. Seriously, that was a huge crowd and an accomplishment for any event. I don’t know but I assume that that short entrance way was for MSG or other similar arenas and that the traditional entrance will be used next week but that’s an assumption.

Wrestling Announcers: “I think we are approaching a non productive trend in the business as it relates to the announcing. We are all guilty, me too, of doing too much hyperbole, talking about too many things that are not related to a bout. In other words sell, sell, sell. “The most historic, most anticipated, most watched, most longest running, most amazing main event, most..most ..most.” This isn’t a knock on my fellow announcers as I have been just as guilty, if not more, but after being home for several weeks and hearing a bunch of wrestling on TV it begins to become noticeable and not in a good way.

Kofi Kingston’s Big Push: Kofi Kingston can look back on this night in MSG as perhaps the night he stepped up and touched the next level. I thought Kofi and Randy Orton’s physical interaction was the wrestling highlight of the show. That was some big time stuff from two young, talented competitors.

Cena Taking Time Off? Mysterio Needs Surgery, WWE Network

6

– John Cena is not currently scheduled for any WWE live events in January of 2010. Cena will begin filming his next WWE Studio movie “Brother’s Keeper” on December 7th in New Orleans. For a few months, Cena will not be wrestling on any WWE live events and will only be appearing at TV tapings and pay-per-views.

– The LA Times had an article up yesterday speculating that the extension between WWE and the USA Network might lead to bigger things like a WWE network or WWE on NBC’s HD Universal channel. There have been preliminary talks between the two about the WWE TV network. They also talk about how Comcast may be taking over NBC Universal soon and if they do, that could be a plus for WWE as Comcast reaches almost 25% of the country.

– As previously reported, Rey Mysterio is in need of knee surgery. He’s expected to take time off soon which may cause the feud with Batista to be rushed.

– WWE will tape ECW and SmackDown tonight from Philadelphia with The Hurricane vs. Paul Burchill on ECW with Hurricane’s mask on the line and Burchill’s ECW career on the line. SmackDown this week will feature Kane and The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho and Big Show plus Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison in a 2 of 3 Falls Match for the Intercontinental Title.

Kurt Angle Injured At Turning Point, Pope Signs New Deal

— Kurt Angle “threw out his back” at Sunday’s TNA’s Turning Point pay-per-view, according to TNA president Dixie Carter on Twitter. The injury occured just minutes into Angle’s match with TNA newcomer Desmond Wolfe. Carter complemented Angle on “gutting out” the final 15 minutes of the 17-minute match against Wolfe in what she called a one of the best TNA matches of the year. Styles against Desmond Wolfe and Daniels.

“Right before I walked in to watch the pay-per-view just now, The Pope and I signed his new long term deal,” Carter wrote. “He is the real deal.” Dinero worked as Elijah Burke in WWE. While in TNA, he has worked under “The Pope” character with live crowds responding well to his early work thus far.

Lilian At MSG Raw, UFC Fight Night Going Up Against Raw

1
