RVD At Bound For Glory, Big Names Leaving TNA, Kennedy

8

– Rob Van Dam appeared on Between The Ropes radio show Tuesday night and when asked about rumors of him attending TNA’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view this Sunday in his hometown area, he mentioned that he would be there but said, “Well, I certainly don’t have any plans of bringing my wrestling boots.” RVD added that his wife Sonya has been talking to Sharmell and that he planned on seeing Booker T while he was there.

— Speaking of Booker T, he and fellow Main Event Mafia member Scott Steiner are on their ways out of TNA Wrestling. Booker T’s unhappiness in TNA has been well documented and he’s almost certainly leaving when his TNA contract expires shortly. As much as we’ve heard about Booker T leaving TNA soon, Scott Steiner is heavily rumored to be on his way out of TNA following this Sunday’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view. He is said to be on the bubble as a result of his friendship with Jeff Jarrett and because company president Dixie Carter has never been a big fan of his. There were rumors a few weeks ago indicating he had given notice, but it appears management made the call in this case.

— There’s a rumor that former WWE superstar Ken “Mr. Kennedy” Anderson will make his TNA Wrestling debut at Sunday’s Bound For Glory PPV. While we can confirm Kennedy making his unannounced TNA debut this weekend has been discussed, there’s no

Update On WWE War Games, WWE Q3 2009 Financial Results

2

Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline reports that if WWE does decide to re-introduce the “War Games” concept for pay-per-view, it probably will not be the same format as the War Games matches seen in the NWA and WCW. The idea of bringing back War Games to WWE has been brought up several times over the years but never got off the ground. With WWE’s recent initiative to rebrand various PPV events, some variation of the War Games concept is back on the table. The WWE creative team was recently told to watch old War Games matches to come up with ideas they can use or tweak.

— World Wrestling Entertainment announced today that it will report its 2009 third quarter results on Thursday, November 5, 2009, before the opening of the market. The Company’s chairman, Vincent K. McMahon, and senior management will host a conference call beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET to discuss the results.

JR Blog: His Contract Expiring, NWA Title Auction, Flair-Hogan

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Some highlights:

His WWE Contract Expiring: So, regarding my professional status, any thing else you read other than what I have said here is manure. I don’t break commitments and I am smart enough to not violate the terms of my contract with whomever I’m employed. My WWE contract expires in December, I don’t even know the exact date, and I expect to sign a multi year deal with WWE when schedules permit for us to sit down and to hammer out a deal that is a win/win. If we don’t hammer out a deal, I have no issues taking the holidays off, focusing on Family, BBQ and Football and then reassessing other career moves. The only thing that I can say is that “retirement” is NOT an option as there is still plenty of fuel left in my tank and that I can assure one and all.

Ric Flair’s NWA Title Being Auctioned: The Ric Flair, original NWA Title belt issue is still on going or so it seems. Apparently there are multiple bids for the coveted, collector’s piece of over $75K. Hopefully this matter will be resolved amicably and to everyone’s satisfaction but from a fan’s perspective there is no pro wrestling collectible any where that I can think of that I would rather have in my personal collection. I think a creative mind could literally write a screen play about the travels and experience of this “trophy.”

Ric Flair Wrestling Hulk Hogan: Speaking of “Naitch,” some emailers have asked me my thoughts regarding the Hulk and company tour of Australia coming up soon. Why would I have any issues with it? I am for all wrestlers to earn the best income that they can no matter where it may be. I would love to see Hulk and Ric tag rather than wrestle each other but that’s simply one guy’s opinion. If wrestling fans are entertained and the talents earn a fair wage, then who loses? I wish them success

Captain Lou Albano (Rest in Peace)

Longtime WWE employee Howard Finkel has posted an excellent tribute to the late Captain Lou Albano, which you can read here.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross posted this on his JRsBarBQ.com blog today:

Sorry to hear about the passing of Captain Lou Albano, WWE Hall of Fame Manager and former member of the Sicilians tag team with Tony Altimore. Lou was a true “character” who was a decent wrestler but gained huge fame in the WWE explosion of the 80’s as a manager. Lou appearing in a Cyndi Lauper music video back in the day was nice exposure for Lou and WWE and put Captain Lou into pop culture awareness.  Lou had many stints in WWE but always “came home” and we wish his family and friends our utmost condolences. The Good Lord has his hands full keeping the Captain in check in Heaven.

Many others have also posted messages on Twitter acknowledging Albano’s unfortunate passing:

  • Chris Jericho: “Wrestling legend Captain Lou Albano has died. One of the integral performers who put the WWF on the map..”
  • Taz: “sorry to hear about the GREAT Capt Lou….god bless. “
  • Matt Morgan: “U gotta be f’n kidding me! Just heard the bad news that Capt Lou Albano passed. He was just as much of a “star” to me as a kid, as was … the wrestlers! One of the better personalities our sport has produced. He was very vital in mainstreaming “rock-n-wrestling” in 80s”
  • Paul Heyman: “RIP CAPTAIN LOU ALBANO”
  • Jeremy Borash: “Wearing a rubber band on my cheek today. RIP Captain Lou. One of my favs.”
  • Ken Anderson: “RIP Lou Albano. I was laid up in the hospital for 9 days in 2001, and Rob Norwood and Shane Hills brought me an autographed 8 x 10 from him.”

WWE Hall Of Famer Captain Lou Albano Has Passed Away

Captain Lou Albano (Rest in Peace)
Captain Lou Albano (Rest in Peace)

We’re sad to report that WWE Hall of Famer Captain Lou Albano (Louis Vincent Albano) has passed away.  He was 76 years old.  His cause of death is still unknown at this time. Earlier this week, his family sent out a statement that he was under hospice care. They said he did not have cancer and asked for supporters to respect his privacy.

Captain Lou was a one of a kind personality who had a 40+ year career in the wrestling business as a wrestler and manager. His gravely voice, colorful outfits, scruffy beard and facial piercings were among the trademark characteristics that made him impossible to ignore.

The “manager of champions” guided 15 different tag teams and 4 singles competitors to championship gold. Collaborating with Cyndi Lauper, Albano helped pioneer the Rock ‘n’ Wrestling movement that lead to wrestling’s crossover into mainstream pop culture during the 1980s. Capitalizing on his success, he later ventured into Hollywood with various television, film, and music projects. Many fans will remember him from the Super Mario Brothers Super Show in the early 90s.

We’d like to extend our deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Captain Lou. He left his mark and he will be missed.

The following video is an interview from February 2007 that Lou Albano did with the Sports Scene show in New York.  Sports Scene host Charlie Cornacchio met Albano at his home to discuss his careers in pro wrestling and acting.

Heat On Mickie James For Her Weight Gain & Workrate

0

— World Wrestling Entertainment officials are said to be down on former Divas champion Mickie James. According to a source within the company, recent weight gain and work rate are the main problems. While she’s arguably still gorgeous and in great shape, she had put on some weight (mostly visible in her abs & lower body) and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Additionally, the quality of her matches has been sliding and she is no longer seen as the “reliable hand” that she once was. There have been various Internet reports this week that James is frustrated with the way she’s been booked as of late, which seems to jive with our source’s findings.

— WWE’s will be holding a “Supershow” live event at the 50,000 seat Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Tickets go on sale this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.com/wwe.

— Likely as a result of her appearance on Raw last night, Maria Menounos is No. 10 on today’s “Popular Searches” chart on Yahoo.com.

NY Yankees To Host MSG Raw? JR Misses SD Tapings & More

0

— Jim Ross missed tonight’s SmackDown taping in Lexington, Kentucky. He was filled in by Michael Cole, who called the show alongside Todd Grisham. Don’t read anything into this as he was given the night off due to his wedding anniversary. He noted in a blog last week that he hasn’t voluntarily missed a week of television in his 16 years with WWE not to mention his time in WCW.

— WWE officials are looking to have a member of the New York Yankees — likely either Derek Jeter or Johnny Damon — host the November 16, 2009 edition of Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden. How the “The Bronx Bombers” do in the playoffs this year, among other factors, will determine whether a deal can be reached.

Access Hollywood correspondents Nancy O’Dell and Maria Menounos talk about their night on Raw at the following link.

WWE's Reaction To Maria Menounos' Performance On Raw

— WWE officials were said to be very pleased with guest host Maria Menounos’ performance on Raw, so much so that they would like to book her for future appearances. While WWE would love to have the Greek beauty perform regularly for the company, it appears highly unlikely given her numerous endeavors on television. (source: www.f4wonline.com)

RAW Rating Increases, Nancy O'Dell Talks Raw & More

— Last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw drew a 3.35 cable rating, which is slightly up from last week’s 3.30 number. The show drew 4.79 million viewers overall compared to 4.71 million viewers last week. Raw lost viewers as the show went on, dropping from a 3.4 to a 3.3 during the second hour.

— OK! Magazine has a story on last night’s Raw host, Nancy O’Dell, being named WWE’s “Sexy Superfan of the Month” in the latest issue of WWE Magazine. The Access Hollywood host said her WWE nickname would be, “Hollywood Highlights! Because, you know, I’m from Hollywood and I have highlights.” She also has her finishing move planned out. “Well, Mr. McMahon taught me how to do a headlock. So I would take the headlock, but add in a Hollywood pose for the paparazzi,” O’Dell said.

Kurt Angle Court Hearing Rescheduled After Accuser No-Shows

0

Kurt Angle was in court on Tuesday to address charges that he harassed his ex-girlfriend, Trenesha Biggers (TNA knockout Rhaka Kahn). Biggers did not show up for the hearing, so prosecutors requested a postponement. District Judge Marry Murray granted the postponement, but if Biggers no-shows again, the charges against Angle will be dropped.

Outside the court house, the Olympic gold medalist and TNA superstar told reporters, “All I can say is I’m innocent and I just want to move on with my life … I never asked for this and I would never do this to anybody. What has happened to me is a darn shame.”

Angle’s defense attorney Michelle Santicola said Biggers not showing up to court is another example of how she conducts herself. “She told the officer that she would be here. We’re not surprised that she once again told an untruth because the affidavit of probable cause is filled with her untruths.”

DiBiase Responds To s Claims That He's Sold Out To Vince

0

Ted DiBiase Sr. has issued a statement responding to recent comments by former WWF and WCW wrestler Paul Roma.

To recap, Roma was interviewed last week by James Guttman of WorldWrestlingInsanity.com and said the following about Ted DiBiase:

“I guess probably like ten years ago, I had spoken to DiBiase, he was out of wrestling, and he became this reverend or whatever he became. So I called him up and we were talking and he goes, ‘Yeah. Listen. I found a good place.’ He says, ‘I was a bad person when I was with Vince (McMahon). I’ll never go back to that again. He’s evil. Blah, blah, blah.’ And then, the next thing I know, this guy is working for Vince again. Like, you know, so at the end of the day it doesn’t matter – wait let me rephrase that. At the end of the day, for Ted DiBiase, he can preach all he wants. He can talk about God all he wants. Bu his God is spelled M-O-N-E-Y.” He continued, “If he really believes and wanted to sell me what he was trying to sell me, he wouldn’t be back with Vince. He wouldn’t be back with the devil.”

Ted DiBiase issued the following statement this morning:

In response to Paul Roma,

I told many people about the wrong things I did, I even wrote a book about it. That’s something everybody knows. I also have been very vocal about a lot of the WWE programming in the past. And, yes, when I went back to work for them, they were well aware of my objections to some of the programming. But what I realized as a Christian is this, if I’m genuinely going to make a difference in the world and try to impact others with what I’ve found in Christ, then I can’t do it sitting in church praying about it. I have to be visible in the market place. I went back to the WWE to show them the difference in who I am now and to try to make a difference. You can’t promote change standing on the sidelines. So I went back. The truth is, the WWE has changed incredibly since my wrestling days. The work schedule is not as demanding overall, and the compensation is much better. Also, a state of the art drug testing policy brings accountability into the business that wasn’t there before. People getting into the WWE now, know that there is zero tolerance for steroid and drug abuse. If I hadn’t seen the changes I would never have given my son my blessing to go into the business. The programming, by the way, is once again, totally PG rated.

The truth is, I’m still very much sold out to Jesus Christ. I don’t think Vince McMahon is evil or the devil. I think he’s a very shrewd business man. He’s also the guy responsible for the unbelievable fan base that professional wrestling enjoys today on a world wide scale.

Please tell Paul Roma that’s he’s got it wrong all the way around, including how much I’m paid for going back and making an appearance. And the Million Dollar Man, well, that would be my son in the not so distant future!!

Update On RVD To TNA, Linda McMahon's Senate Run

0

— Reader “Lee” sent in word that he called RVD’s Internet radio show the other night to discuss the main topic of the show, which was whether RVD should return to WWE or go to TNA. When he called in, the person who was screening the calls asked whether he thinks RVD should go to WWE or TNA. When he said WWE, the screener responded, “Ok, well I will put you through anyway”.

Lee got the strong impression that they were trying to get more TNA callers and push possibility of RVD going to TNA. Van Dam mentioned during the show that going to TNA would put him closer to his parents, who live in Florida.

— ESPN.com has another an article up that looks at Linda McMahon’s aspirations to be a United States Senator. Aside from the typical argument that her association with pro wrestling will likely hurt her chances, columnist Jeff MacGregor looks at the situation from a different perspective.

He asks why Linda would want to walk away from the money, power and control she has over running a large corporation. “You aren’t the boss anymore. No one has to do what you say. No one has to listen to you. No one cares what you think. The one thing you need to be able to do as a politician is the one thing you never had to bother with in business: build consensus,” he said.

“Why Mrs. McMahon wants to give up the power, money and prestige of professional wrestling to join a sideshow like the U.S. Senate remains a mystery to me.” Visit ESPN.com for more.
