Backstage News On How WWE Booked Hell In A Cell

0

Various changes were made to the booking of Sunday’s Hell in a Cell PPV according to F4WOnline.com. One match that WWE spent a lot of time crafting was the SmackDown IC title match between John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler. WWE views both men as future stars on the verge of moving to the next level, so its understandable that the WWE producers gave the booking of this one extra attention.

In addition the match order itself was also changed around several times before WWE settled on what we saw last night on PPV. At one point, there was talk of putting Randy Orton vs. John Cena on as the main event, which didn’t happen.  Additionally, most do not believe Undertaker vs. CM Punk was initially scheduled to open the show.

Based on how the match order played out, its clear WWE tried to space out the three Hell in a Cell matches. This is similar to what WWE has done at WrestleManias in the past, spacing out the title matches with undercard matches. This is why we saw Drew McIntire vs. Ron Killings in the second to last match of the night.

As has been reported, WWE creative as well as the talent roster have expressed some concern about having to book multiple, identical gimmick matches on the new specialty pay-per-views.

You could even see me yelling at Herb Dean, ‘Come on, ref.’… But the thing is, there’s a lot of people, there’s a lot of money… So I think it was more that Herb Dean was afraid to lose his job, because there’s a lot of people with a lot of money that can have a lot of influence with his career.”

JR Blog: Vickie Guerrero Returning To WWE? Where's JBL?

0

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read at JRsBarBQ.com.

Here’s what JR said about:

JBL Missing Decade of SmackDown: JBL was unavailable to attend the 10 year SD show but he’s doing great in business and life in general. John is playing golf this weekend at Pebble Beach…not bad for a country boy from West Texas.

Vickie Guerrero’s WWE Return: It looks as if Vickie Guerrero may be returning to Smackdown as a manager. More on that Friday night on Smackdown.

Bobby Heenan: Lots of talk at the Roundtable about the amazing Bobby Heenan who was virtually a lock for best manager ever by our panel. He got my vote.

Hell in a Cell: Hell in a Cell this Sunday will be an adventure with three main events inside the Cell. I’m intrigued as to how they will all have their own identity and look forward to the PPV

Angelina Love's Unpopularity In TNA, A Look At Sarita

0

source: www.pwtorch.com

— Former TNA performer Angelina Love was reportedly backstage at one of the Impact tapings in Orlando last week, which is quite startling given her ongoing visa issues. It’s been indicated that she’s living in the area despite the fact that she was let go by the company because her work visa had expired.

The buzz in the locker room at last week’s television tapings was that Love would not be returning to the company because officials had determined it would cost them too much money to work out the problem.

On another note, the backstage opinion of Love is not high among those in the TNA locker room. The ex-Knockout was not popular among most in the locker room and the term “karma” has been brought up by more than one person regarding her ongoing problems.

To further add to the story, in an interview published in today’s Miami Herald, Lacey Von Erich — Love’s replacement in “The Beautiful People” — said she had not heard good things about her before joining the organization.

“I’ve never met Angelina before in my life,” Von Erich said. “After what some people have said, I don’t know if I want to.”

Von Erich said that upon joining TNA, she thought the sentiment was going to be, `Oh no. Angelina is gone,’ but not one person in the company said that — according to her.

“Nobody really missed her that much,” Von Erich added.

The Sun has a profile on one-half of the TNA Knockout Tag Team Champions, the gorgeous Sarita. The article notes that Sarita is a huge hit in Mexico, where she wrestled as “Dark Angel.” (Take a look at TNA’s new Angel)

— “The Beautiful People” member Madison Rayne has posted a blog on her MySpace account talking about she’s been up to as of late.

TNA Interested In Ric Flair, Update On Sting's Retirement

0

Contrary to what’s been reported online for months now, Sting is not expected to retire following this month’s Bound for Glory Pay-Per-View. As things currently stand, TNA has no plans on adding a “retire or win the title” stipulation to his match with AJ Styles at Bound for Glory — which was initially planned. On television, Sting’s match has not been pushed as his final anything as he is expected to remain with the company at least a little while longer.

In is believed Sting has signed a new deal, but the word going around is that it was for six months rather than another year, once again indicating he’s thinking about retiring in the near future. Although, it’s been “one more year” since 2006 as every year since then they have convinced to stay. However, he has suggested doing a farewell tour in 2010.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, TNA officials really want to bring in Ric Flair to be involved in Sting’s eventual farewell, but out of loyalty to Vince McMahon, Flair told people that he’s not even listening to TNA.

Velvet Sky Discusses Angelina Love's Departure From TNA

0

The Miami Herald recently conducted a lengthy interview with Velvet Sky. Candidly, the TNA Knockout gives her thoughts on Angelina Love’s shocking departure from TNA, how her former partner is doing these days, the future of “The Beautiful People” going forward, and much more. Here are a few highlights from the interview:

Her initial reaction to Angelina Love’s departure from TNA: “It came out of the blue,” Sky said. “We did three TV tapings. She was supposed to go to [TNA’s] Germany tour. The travel was booked, and the pay-per-view match was booked. It was supposed to be her and I against Sarita and Taylor Wilde.

“A week and a half after we finished the TV tapings is when I got the phone call, saying this is what happened. ‘Oh my God.’ TNA reassured me that Madison and I were going to keep the group going. They weren’t going to let the group die. They said we all worked so hard, and we were so good in that group. So we were excited about that.

“Angelina told both of us to keep it going strong. She said, `Don’t let anyone or anything ruin what we built.’ We won’t let anyone or anything ruin what we’ve work so hard to build. It’s not going to happen. Not on my time. That’s real. I mean that.”

How Angelina is doing nowadays: “I keep in contact with [Angelina]. She is doing OK, and she is going to be just fine,” Sky said. “There was a lot of negative stuff that was said about her on the Internet like why she got fired, what’s going to happen. You can’t always believe what you read on the Internet.”

Whether “The Beautiful People” will have a new leader as a result of Angelina’s departure from the group: “I don’t think there is a need for a leadership role in The Beautiful People. Who’s to say I’m better than her, or she’s better than me,” Sky said. “I don’t think The Beautiful People ever needed a leadership role. I view us as equals, 50/50. I think we should have the same amount of promo time, ring time, whatever the case may be. It’s a team.”

The founding member of “The Beautiful People” also discusses her start in the professional wrestling industry, her family’s tremendous support of her when she was struggling on the indy scene, how “The Beautiful People” came about, the Knockouts division, her ring outfits, and much more. Lashley's Stock Down In TNA, New Lacey Von Erich Photos

0

— In case you haven’t noticed, there is something of a youth movement going on in TNA. Company president Dixie Carter is very high on pushing the younger talent and has made it clear that anyone who objects won’t last long, according to a report on PWTorch.com.

Carter has identified AJ Styles, Matt Morgan and Hernandez as the three men in line for big pushes in the organization. Bobby Lashley had been on that list, but company officials have cooled on investing heavily in him as a result of his other career in MMA. While he’ll be featured prominently when his schedule allows him to work, Carter has determined that she can’t build her company around a wrestler who won’t be there on a full-time basis. Hence, Lashley is no longer mentioned as one of the stars Carter is banking on to lead TNA in the future and his stock in the company is down.

— As seen last night on Impact, Lacey Von Erich made her debut in TNA by aligning herself with “The Beautiful People” and attacking the Knockout Tag Team Champions, Taylor Wilde and Sarita. The TNA website has posted her first photo shoot at the following link.

He is a former boxer and K-1 fighter who had signed a developmental contract with WWE last year, but cut shortly thereafter. (source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter)

— On tonight’s “Decade of SmackDown” celebration, The Rock returns to give a special message to the WWE Universe. In a special feature, WWE.com ponders what other television title suggestions he might have created had he not coined the term “SmackDown.” (The Rock’s Catchphrases)

Nature Boy Ric Flair’s ex-wife Tiffany appeared on the Unholy Matrimony radio show over the weekend and commented on his decision to come out of retirement and wrestle Hulk Hogan in Australia next month. “I’m very disappointed,” Tiffany said. “The WrestleMania and the Hall of Fame was so unbelievable and it was such a proud moment. No matter what I’ve been through with him, I was really, really proud to be part of that.

UFC & Kimbo Slice Crush RAW In The Ratings – Full Details

0

Wednesday night’s  highly anticipated edition of UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter delivered a monster rating that put this week’s edition of WWE Raw to shame. UFC President Dana White boldly predicted 6 million viewers would tune in for Kimbo Slice’s first UFC fight and he was right on the money.

The 1-hour broadcast drew a 3.7 cable rating and averaged 5.3 million viewers. The final 15-minute segment featuring the Kimbo-Nelson fight drew a staggering 6.1 million viewers, making it the most watched MMA show on Spike ever.  The show drew a massive 6.81 rating in the M18-34 demo, with a 5.4 for M18-49.

Despite Kimbo Slice’s shortcoming inside the cage, his ability to draw in fans is undeniable. ?He now holds three of the top four most viewed MMA fights in the sport’s history.

By comparison, Monday’s Raw hosted by Al Sharpton drew a 3.1 cable rating with 4.5 million viewers, the lowest rating of the year.  Even uglier was Raw’s performance in the M18-49 demographic. UFC killed it with a 5.4 rating while Raw drew a meager 1.86.

Before the Ultimate Fighter rating came out, the backstage feeling within WWE was that “sh*t would hit the fan” and changes would be in store if UFC beat Raw this week. While the UFC show featured a special attraction in Kimbo Slice’s first UFC fight and the company likely won’t be able to sustain those numbers, WWE will not take this lightly.

Dana White was right on with his prediction of the Kimbo Slice-Roy Nelson fight on Wednesday’s episode of the Ultimate Fighter, as a record setting 6.1 million viewers tuned in for the fight.

The full hour drew an average of 5.3 million viewers, with viewership peaking in the final 15 minutes. The 3.7 household rating the show garnered was the highest for any MMA show ever, though this was just a one hour broadcast.

It is officially the most viewed MMA fight on Spike, surpassing the 5.9 million that tuned in to see Quinton “Rampage” Jackson square off against Dan Henderson on the UFC 75 event. The show drew a massive 6.81 rating in the M18-34 demo, with a 5.4 in M18-49. It was the most watched episode of an original series in Spike’s six year histor

Details On Dwayne Johnson's Next 3 Movies Coming Out

0

Sources: Wrestling Observer Newsletter, PWInsider.com

Here is the latest on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s upcoming movie ventures.

His next movie project will be “The Other Guys,” alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Wahlberg, Will Farrell and Michael Keaton. Johnson and Jackson play two standout New York police officers while Farrell and Wahlberg play the “loser cops” who finally get a chance to outshine the heroes. Filming for the movie began this week and it is tentatively scheduled for release in August.

Johnson will begin promoting his next Disney flick, The Tooth Fairy, in December. Johnson plays Derek Thompson, a minor league hockey player who has the nickname “Tooth Fairy” because he knocks opponents’ teeth out. The movie’s plot line has Thompson becoming the real Tooth Fairy as a result of his bad deeds. Sounds plausible. His character in The Tooth Fairy is quite similar to the character he played in The Game Plan; a cocky athlete put into bad position, misbehaves constantly at the beginning, but learns his lesson and becomes a hero in the end. The The Tooth Fairy will hit theaters on January 22, 2010.

Lastly, Johnson lent his voice to the animated movie Planet 51, which is slated to be released on November 20, 2009.

Sharpton Trashed For RAW Appearance, UK Ratings, & More

0

— Radio personality for New York’s POWER 105, Ed Lover, has a new video online where he discusses Al Sharpton’s appearance on WWE RAW this week. Lover says: “Speaking of stupid s***, did you see Al Sharpton on WWE? Is this the same man who stood up for Sean Bell and non-violence in the streets? And then you’re at the WWE? The WWE is nothing but violence. […] Come on, son. Who do you think you are, Classy Freddie Blassie? You‘re a reverend, son.” You can watch the video at this link.

— In the UK for the week ending Sept. 20: TNA iMPACT did 50,000 viewers, RAW did 58,000 live and 66,000 for the replay, and SmackDown did 56,000.

— ESPN came in first place once again for last week’s cable ratings race, with USA coming in second. SyFy was at #13 and Spike was at #17 despite thie big ratings for The Ultimate Fighter. The two hours of RAW hosted by Cedric were the #3 and #5 rated shows for the week, with football dominating the rest of the chart. In the 18-34 demographic, the second hour of RAW was #4 while the first hour didn’t crack the top 10. In 18-49, the two hours of RAW were ranked #2 and #7, while The Ultimate Fighter was #5.

Vince's Rockstar Needs, Compares CM Punk to The Warlord

0

— According to an article by BostonHerald.com, a source at the Boston Park Plaza hotel revealed some interesting details about what goes on when Vince McMahon and superstars and staff of World Wrestling Entertainment stay at a hotel.

First off, “all of Vince McMahon’s charges go to the master bill,” the info sheet states. Those charges would include “a special room-service order upon (McMahon’s) arrival between 11:45 p.m. and midnight . . . WWE will pay the chef to stay late.”

Additionally, all of the WWE rooms had to be non-smoking and “all rooms traveling with Vince McMahon should be pre-keyed” so he doesn’t have to wait to check in upon his arrival.  Say what you want about him, the guy knows how to travel!

— In a recent interview with WWE Magazine, Vince McMahon gave his thoughts on what defines today’s WWE Superstars. Using the massive Warlord as an example, McMahon says bigger is not necessarily better in today’s WWE. When asked what defines today’s top WWE superstars,  Vince said:

“It’s everything that people don’t see. It’s easy to say from a visual standpoint that bigger is better in reference to past eras of WWE. But take The Warlord, for example. He was enormous — one of the most visually impressive Superstars we’ve had — but he couldn’t sell five tickets. He had no charisma, no “gift of gab,” which is what really sets apart today’s Superstars, even if they may not be as physically intimidating. Someone like CM Punk, even though he’s a good-looking guy, isn’t built like that. He probably weighs less than I do. But today’s fans are drawn to his confidence and charisma. Those are the things a Superstar exudes, and they translate though the television set.”

Question: What defines today’s top Superstars?
