WWE Getting A Lot Of Media Coverage In Japan

1

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Japanese stars Gedo, Jado and KENTA were all at WrestleMania 26 weekend for the Antonio Inoki Hall of Fame induction. Inoki did a lot of photo ops for the Japanese media, including congratulating RAW’s Yoshi Tatsu on winning the pre-show battle royal.

There was already some Japanese media in town because Major League Baseball star Hideki Matsui is playing pre-season baseball there. This helped out with the coverage from Japan on Inoki’s induction. Part of the reason why Inoki was chosen for this year’s Hall is because of the exposure WWE would be getting in Japan. The media took photos of Inoki with Vince McMahon, where Vince thanked Inoki for the friendship with Vince Sr.

With WWE aiming for maximum exposure in Japan, that could very well be part of the reason why Yoshi Tatsu won the WrestleMania pre-show battle royal.

Ziggler Takes Shot At Otunga, Follow Daivari On Twitter, More

5

WWE Magazine conducted a “Twitterview” with Dolph Ziggler this evening on the social networking site as he answered questions regarding Shawn Michaels’ retirement, WrestleMania, his hair, Simpsons, and much more.

When asked to give his pick to win NXT, he selected Heath Slater. It’s worth noting that during his response, he referred to David Otunga with the following: “And the one guy is simply here because he dates some chick that’s in magazines, he’s not even in the Diva’s league.”

Regarding Michaels’ retirement, he compared it to the last episode of Seinfeld.

“You don’t want it to end, and no matter how amazing and mindblowing it is, you don’t want it to end,” Ziggler said. “It still doesn’t seem like he’s gone, WWE has lost the greatest superstar ever, and a lot of guys, including me, have lost a great mind. I went out into the arena floor for that match, and it was amazing! He went out like no one else could or ever will!”

NXT Rookie Suffers Food Poisoning, Morely Backstage At Raw

0

— NXT rookie Skip Sheffield noted on his Twitter account this past week that he was suffering from food poisoning. He said he vomited three times and had very high body temperature. He’s blaming his sickness on Burger King and said he will never eat there again.

— Recently released TNA star Sean Morley was backstage at Monday’s Raw, which emanated from his hometown of Phoenix. He was simply visiting friends.

Morely worked for TNA as recently as February before parting ways with the organization to compete in Mexico. He wrote the following note on his Facebook account regarding his experience: “Just got back from visiting old friends at Raw here in Phoenix. Drive to the arena with my buddy Matt(Atrain). It’s always great to see old friends again.”

Lilian Garcia Working On Second Album, Maria Discusses TNA

0

— In an interview with Alex Marvez, Maria Kanellis said WWE wanting more control over her projects led to her departure from the organization.

The former WWE Diva also noted her unhappiness with WWE for quickly posting news of her release on their website before she had time to tell her family she had been let go.

“People are saying it was about money or this and that,” Kanellis told Marvez. “It wasn’t. It had to do with my other passions and things I wanted to do alongside WWE. Unfortunately, it didn’t work for them.”

Though she has much on her plate at the moment, she is not ruling out joining TNA or even Ring of Honor down the road.

“I didn’t want to leave when I did,” Kanellis said. “Who knows where the road is going to lead me? Maybe a good cause will come up for me to go to TNA or even visit with Ring of Honor. I’ve always said some of the great talent is on the independent (circuit).”

— Former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia has plans to release follow-up album to her 2007 release, ¡Quiero Vivir!, within the next year. However, this project will be much different from her debut album as she revealed during an interview last week at the Winter Music Conference in Miami that it would be a danced-based English record with some rock influence. The former WWE Diva is collaborating with DJ Riddler on the project and she hopes to have it launched in time for the DJ Times convention in August.

Riddler discusses working with Garcia in a blog post at the following link.

Vince McMahon's "Mr. McMahon" Character Reportedly Finished

0

Vince McMahon’s evil “Mr. McMahon” character is said to be finished, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The character was spawned back in 1997 following the infamous Montreal Screwjob. McMahon’s on-air character turned heel for the first time and it became the antagonist to the company’s top star “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in arguably the best run in the history of the company.

With Bret Hart’s return to WWE after 13 years, McMahon felt WrestleMania would be the perfect chance for Bret Hart to get his ultimate revenge and wipe out Mr. McMahon once and for all. The over-the-top beatdown he sustained at the hands (and feet) of the Hart family signified the end of the character.

McMahon is a firm believer in pushing younger acts and is not blind to the fact that he’s in his 60’s and the character more than ran its course.

Chris Jericho Says He Be Out Of Action Until May

2

WWE’s World Heavyweight champion Chris Jericho posted a message on Twitter today saying that he’ll be out of action for six weeks.

Jericho wrote: “Just got selected for sequestered jury duty. Six weeks minimum. :-( Won’t be able to work or tweet. See u in May WWE Universe…”

It’s worth noting that today is April Fool’s Day — so there’s a good chance that this is a gag on Jericho’s part, that jokester.

More Details On Flair's Confrontation With Jordan's Valet

0

As reported yesterday, reaction to Orlando Jordan’s segment on Monday’s iMPACT! was largely negative amongst the wrestlers in the locker room. Ric Flair was said to be among the most vocal detractors of the segment when it was taped on Mar. 23.

Later that night, a number of wrestlers and personnel headed out a nearby bar. Flair had a few drinks and began complaining about the manner in which Jordan’s on-air male companion was dancing on the bar’s dance floor and added there’s no place for him in the locker room. He eventually got so worked up that he angrily approached the male companion and created a scene.

One wrestler said Flair “cut a Ric Flair promo on him.” He then told him he’s “an embarrassment” and demanded that he “sit the f— down.”

The male companion was said to be shaken by the wrestling legend’s comments and left the bar shortly thereafter.

Detailed Update On Jim Ross' Future With WWE

0

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross posted a new blog entry at JrsBarBQ.com with a detailed update on his future in WWE. Ross recently signed a short-term contract extension and there’s been a lot of speculation that he’s either leaving the industry entirely or would consider jumping to TNA Wrestling.

Ross wrote:

“JR is NOT retiring. It’s tempting and financially doable but I want to work a few more years in a role that is fun and not as laden with stress as some of my previous assignments have been.

No I am not ‘vanishing.’ LIfe is so good here in Norman and I have a tremendous amount of things to look forward to although I know that I have not broadcast my last event. One doesn’t do something for over 35 years and stop cold turkey or at least I don’t.

There are no issues or problems with my negotiations with WWE. The ball is in WWE’s court to put together a new role for me within the company. Essentially they have decided to reassign me from weekly broadcasting and that includes the monthly PPV’s to focus on other areas of the company. I am guessing, and I stress guessing, that may be some form of scouting and/or talent development. I might be wrong on that assumption but I’ll know before the end of April as that is when my current extension expires.”

Updates On Awesome Kong, ODB, Angelina Love, Sarita

1

– Former TNA Knockout Awesome Kong is booked for several independent dates in Australia this summer under the name “Amazing Kong.” With those bookings in place, it seems unlikely that Kong would be able to join WWE until after the summer.

– ODB told fans at a POWW Wrestling event held over the weekend that the reason she hasn’t been seen in TNA the past few weeks is due to a ruptured breast implant. According to reports, she had been working through the injury in order to hold off surgery following the Genesis pay-per-view back in January. She has since recovered as she worked the independent event, so her prolonged absence appears to now be a case of creative having nothing for her at this time.

– Angelina Love will be hosting a “Gold Party” this Friday night in Washington D.C. at the Town Danceboutique alongside Tanisha of the Bad Girls Club and DJ Seth.

– Sarita is currently in the midst of a wrestling tour of Japan as she worked Fuka’s retirement show at Korakuen Hall on Sunday and will be working a show this Saturday at Shin-Kiba 1st Ring.

— Madison Rayne is auctioning off a garter wrestling outfit worn on iMPACT! last year at the following link. Bidding ends today.

Kane Sets WrestleMania Record?, WWE Stars Attend ROH, More

0

— As a result of his participation in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania XXVI, Kane broke Bret Hart’s record of most consecutive WrestleMania matches with thirteen. However, it should be noted that Kane’s bout at WrestleMania XIX aired during Sunday Night Heat rather than the actual pay-per-view, so technically, he doesn’t hold the streak for most consecutive WrestleMania pay-per-view appearances.

— While WWE did not want its talent visiting the Ring of Honor or Dragon Gate events held in Phoenix last weekend, some showed up at the ROH shows discreetly.

— Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart attended the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony this past weekend.

— The Miz noted on his Twitter account that he attended Star Magazine’s “Young Hot Hollywood” party last night.

Reaction To HBK's Retirement, Candice Michelle Profiled, More

0

— The general feeling among those in WWE is that Shawn Michaels is sincere about his retirement. While no one is ruling out the possibility of Michaels working a match or two down the line, many feel he believes he worked his final match on Sunday.
