Back in the Ring: Wes Lee Shares Recovery Video Amid NXT Absence

0

Wes Lee has shared a positive update on his condition with a video of the WWE NXT Superstar getting back in the ring.

Lee went down with a back injury in late 2023, one that he said at the time would keep him out of action for eight to twelve months. This injury led to plans for Lee, which included a title match with then-NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio, being scrapped.

Wes Lee’s Back in the Ring

This week, Wes took to Twitter to share a video of himself getting back in the ring. Seeing himself as the mythical phoenix that rises once more after being destroyed, Lee captioned his video “from the ashes…”

What’s Next?

At this time, there’s no word on when fans can expect Wes Lee back in the ring on WWE NXT programming. A former North American Champion, many expect that Wes will be back in the hunt for the title, currently held by Oba Femi, when he is back. The Nigerian powerhouse has proven to be unstoppable since winning the title from Dragon Lee.

With that said, many also would argue that Lee did everything he could win the title. and that his next opportunity upon returning should be for the WWE NXT Championship. Ilja Dragunov currently holds the gold and will defend against Tony D’Angelo at Stand & Deliver.

Dynasty’s Chris Envy On Booking Patrick Clark Backlash: ‘You’d Pay to See Vince McMahon’

0

The promoter of Dynasty Wrestling has defended booking Patrick Clark for an event following backlash among fans.

Clark, known for his time as Velveteen Dream in WWE NXT, appeared at a Dynasty event in New York last month. The show marked Clark’s first wrestling appearance since his release from WWE in 2021.

The former NXT North American champion was let go following allegations that he had sent explicit messages and photos to minors. WWE said they found no evidence in their investigation, though one of Clark’s accusers would later state that they were never contacted for the investigation.

Dynasty Defends Clark Booking

The choice to feature Clark at the event was met with heavy backlash, especially as fans were not informed of his presence at the show ahead of time. One of Dynasty’s ex-talent also believed that Clark’s involvement sent the wrong message.

Speaking to Bucklebomb Entertainment, Dynasty promoter Chris Envy spoke highly of Clark.

“He is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. We spent a couple hours together that day. He was so nice, one of the nicest people… He said hello to everybody, he took pictures, class act all around.”

Many fans took issue with Clark appearing on the same show as Rita Chatterton. The former WWE referee has alleged for years that she was raped by Vince McMahon in the 1980s. In the interview, Envy claimed that Chatterton supported Clark at the event.

“They were shoulder to shoulder, there was nothing uncomfortable about the situation. She told me to give him her number and have him reach out to her.”

Envy argued that it ultimately comes down to the Dynasty fans, who he believes would be excited to see Vince McMahon despite the allegations against the ex-WWE Chairman.

“All these people that are coming at me, ‘you’re not family entertainment.’ It’s easy to say that, but if I had Vince McMahon on my next show, all those clowns would still be buying tickets.”

What’s Next?

Patrick Clark hasn’t competed since the Dynasty Wrestling show. In the interview, Envy said that he he has had talks with Clark regarding future bookings and that other promoters have reached out to ask about obtaining Clark’s services.

WWE Considering Start-Time Change for Premium Live Events Going Forward

0

WWE’s Premium Live Events could be in line for a massive change if the promotion goes ahead with an idea it has been weighing up.

The Sports Entertainment juggernaut is considering moving its monthly Premium Live Events to an earlier start time, PW Insider reports. This unclarified earlier start time would affect domestic events and would be the same time that WWE utilized “many years ago.” At this time, there’s not been a decision as to whether an earlier start time will become a permanent fixture.

WWE WrestleMania 40 will see a slightly earlier start time on both nights of its broadcast. Next month’s event will take place at 6:30 PM Eastern, instead of the usual start time of 8 PM Eastern. Doors will open at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA at 4:30 PM Eastern.

Changes to Premium Live Events

If WWE goes through with this idea, it’ll hardly be the first time that the company’s biggest events have undergone a dramatic change. It was only until a few years ago that WWE dubbed its events ‘pay-per-views.’ The name was changed to the currently-used ‘Premium Live Events’ given that said events are now almost exclusively streamed instead of the antiquated PPV method.

It was also within recent years that WWE moved its pay-per-view events from Sunday evenings to Saturday. Other days that have seen pay-per-views be hosted include Taboo Tuesday in 2004 and 2005, while the early Survivor Series events happened on Thanksgiving Thursday.

The People’s Schedule: What’s Next for The Rock After WWE WrestleMania 40?

0

The Rock will return to the ring next month at WrestleMania 40, but fans may be waiting for some time for his next match after that.

On WrestleMania 40: Saturday, The Rock & Roman Reigns will face off against Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins in what’ll presumably be the main event. Should The Bloodline win, then the Undisputed WWE Universal title match the next night will be under ‘Bloodline Rules.’ Should Rhodes and Rollins win, there’ll be no Bloodline involvement when Rhodes challenges Reigns on WrestleMania 40: Sunday.

What Comes Next?

While Rock and Reigns are currently allies, there is a belief that the two will face off one day in a match WWE initially intended to have at WrestleMania. It has been reported that WWE are hoping to get the Brahma Bull for the match at their next event in Saudi Arabia.

That may prove to be easier said than done thanks to The Rock’s Hollywood career. PW Insider reports that Johnson is poised to begin work on a new project after WrestleMania 40 titled The Smashing Machine. The report adds that casting is underway for a series of supporting characters and that filming is currently scheduled to last from May to August. This will keep Rock out of doing anything physical for WWE

The Smashing Machine

The Smashing Machine will be produced by The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions and will focus on the life of UFC fighter Mike Kerr. The film will follow Kerr’s struggle with addiction and fights both in and out of the Octagon. The Rock is set to play Kerr.

Tony Khan Has Faith That Darby Allin Will Perform Insane Stunts As Safely As Possible

0

AEW President Tony Khan is well aware of how dangerous Darby Allin’s spots may be, but is confident that the wrestler always finds a way to do them safely.

Since arriving in AEW, Allin has put his body on the line several times in spots far more dangerous than seen from others. At AEW Revolution 2024, a spot involving Allin saw the former TNT Champion fall off a ladder and go through glass panes. This spot has raised questions as to whether it was necessary in Sting’s final match and whether Allin goes too far with stunts like this, and if so, why AEW allows it.

Tony Khan on Darby Allin

Sitting down with TV Insider, Khan addressed the spot in question. The AEW President began by touting the importance of safety, an attitude that extends to all on his roster.

“It has to be something safe. Whenever a wrestler comes in and wants to try something, especially dangerous, I just want to know that there is a safe way to do it.”

Focusing on the former AEW TNT Champion, Khan pointed out that Allin makes sure to ensure he can survive whatever wild stunt he sets his mind to.

“He is fanatical about finding a way to pull off the impossible and do these incredible, seemingly death-defying stunts. He always finds a safe way to pull them off. He always has a rationale for why he is able to do it.”

What’s Next?

On this week’s AEW Dynamite, Allin was still selling the effects of the glass pane spot (though we have to wonder how much of it was selling.) This made the former champion an easy target for Jay White. While Allin tried to fight back, a missed Coffin Drop would seal his fate and White would get the win.

Allin’s next big stunt will be his biggest to date but will take place outside the confines of an AEW ring. The daredevil is planning to begin his climb of Mt. Everest this month, which will of course mean that he won’t be appearing on AEW Dynamite.

Doing Big Business: How Many Tickets Were Distributed for 3/13 AEW Dynamite?

0

AEW’s Big Business edition of Dynamite proved to be a historic night for the promotion, and Boston’s TD Garden was packed for this stacked event.

The March 13, 2024, edition of AEW Dynamite saw the much-anticipated arrival of Mercedes Mone, close to two years after her WWE exit. Mone spoke about her journey in wrestling and being home in Boston. Later in the show, Mone made the save for Willow Nightingale, who was being attacked by Skye Blue and AEW TBS Champion Julia Hart. It’s notable that Mone saved Willow, given that it was during a match with Nightingale that Mone suffered last year’s ankle injury.

AEW Big Business Does Big Business

AEW’s Big Business edition of Dynamite saw over 9,400 tickets distributed, sources confirmed to WrestleTix. They added that this means that several upper decks and sections on the hard cam side will have been fully open and distributed.

The show did a reported gate of $345,660, which makes for an average ticket price of $36 a seat. WrestleTix reported that the average ticket price was much lower than usual.

AEW Big Business

This week’s show also saw AEW World Champion Samoa Joe retain against Wardlow. The Bang Bang Scissor Gang imploded as Bullet Club Gold turned on The Acclaimed following Jay White’s victory over Darby Allin. In tag-team action, Chris Jericho & Hook, dubbed ‘LionHook,’ defeated Gates of Agony. The Elite defeated Pac, Eddie Kingston and Penta El Zero Miedo, with Kazuchika Okada setting his sights on Kingston’s AEW Continental Championship.

It’s Boss Time: Wrestling World Reacts to Mercedes Mone’s AEW Big Business Debut

0

Mercedes Mone is officially All-Elite, and the arrival of the former WWE Superstar has proven to be a huge talking point among those in pro wrestling.

Mone arrived in AEW during the Big Business episode of Dynamite, following weeks of speculation that she’d be joining. Mone had hardly been subtle in the run-up to the show, making clear to fans that she was in Boston, MA, her hometown and the host of Big Business, mere hours before the show.

Wrestling World Reacts

After weeks of anticipation, Mone’s arrival in AEW has spawned a ton of reactions. WWE’s own Tyler Breeze was pleased to see his former colleague become All-Elite.

Matt Hardy was excited to see Mone at the show and felt her kicking off Big Business was the right move.

Taya Valkyrie was ready to throw out the challenge to the newest member of AEW’s women’s division.

Renee Paquette was also pleased to see the ‘CEO’ in AEW.

AEW’s chief music producer Mikey Rukus joked that he was under the impression that a different woman in wrestling would be debuting on the show.

Former Women’s World Champion Nyla Rose had similarly been under the impression that AEW had something planned other than Mone.

Referee Aubrey Edwards shared her own experiences watching Mone compete during her WWE run as Sasha Banks.

Danhausen had quite an interesting reaction to Mone’s arrival, as he’s clearly a fan of AEW’s newest signing.

WWE’s Cathy Kelley shared her excitement for Mone’s debut through the power of emojis.

And AEW President Tony Khan took to Twitter to make things official.

Watch: What Happened With Mercedes Mone After 3/13 AEW Dynamite Went Off Air

0

Mercedes Mone made her presence felt in a big way during tonight’s Big Business episode of AEW Dynamite from the TD Garden in her hometown of Boston, Massachusetts.

The former WWE star’s official debut for All Elite Wrestling was all but confirmed by the promotion prior to the event. Company president Tony Khan didn’t make the fans wait for long to see what they had come for.

The CEO made her debut during the opening segment of the Wednesday night show. She got a huge ovation from the hometown crowd.

The former IWGP Women’s Champion then cut a promo mentioning her idol, Eddie Guerrero and thanking the fans. Mercedes Mone ended her promo by declaring that AEW was the only place where revolution can be global.

What Happened After Dynamite

This wasn’t the last of Mone fans got to see. The main event of the show featured Willow Nightingale who defeated Riho in a singles match. After the bout, Julia Hart and Sky Blue attacked Nightingale.

Mercedes Mone then made her way out, this time wearing her new ring gear. She took out Blue first and later delivered the Mone Maker to Hart.

The show ended with Nightingale lifting Mercedes’ arm. The debuting star stayed in the ring for some time after the cameras stopped rolling to soak in the moment.

Mone spent a good amount of time greeting the fans at the ringside and dancing to her theme after Dynamite went off air, before finally making her way to the back.

The former champion’s debut was a huge success for AEW. Now it’d be interesting to see what the company has planned for her moving forward.

Bayley at Big Business: WWE Superstar Spotted During Mercedes Mone’s Boston AEW Debut

0

AEW Big Business went down at the TD Garden in Boston, and there was considerable excitement from the crowd all night. Mercedes Mone’s AEW debut dominated discussions prior to the event, and she had a very close friend who was there for the big night.

The Big Business show brought a lot of attention and fans in Boston. It seems that Bayley also made the show, and she was spotted during the event.

Bayley at Big Business

During the March 13 episode of AEW Dynamite, Mercedes Mone entered the scene, confirming her All Elite status. While her debut had been widely anticipated, her appearance comes as no surprise to many amidst swirling rumors.

Ahead of the event, rumors circulate about Bayley and Naomi attending to show support for their friend. We’re not sure about Trinity, but Bayley was spotted in the Garden

WWE Superstar Bayley was indeed spotted at TD Garden, surprising fans all over, but they shouldn’t be too shocked considering their past. While Naomi’s presence remains unconfirmed, considering their past support for Mone, it wouldn’t be unexpected is she was there too.

It appears that Trinity, Tamina, and Bayley were all there at Big Business. The video from Naomi on Twitter/X was a pretty funny hint that they made the show.

Connection Between Mercedes Mone & Bayley

Bayley has said in the past that she begs Mercedes Mone all the time to come back to WWE. That didn’t happen this time around, but you never know what the future holds. At this point, Mone has a multi-year contract with AEW to deal with.

Mone and Bayley were also at Trinity’s Hard to Kill match in Impact Wrestling. They are known to support each other, even if they aren’t in the same company.

SEScoops will have a lot more on this story, and so much more, so please keep checking back for future updates.

Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium puts in Bid To Host WrestleMania 41

0

WrestleMania brings a ton of money to the event every single year. Now, it appears that we know where the grandest stage of them all will be set up in 2025.

WrestleMania 41 may have a venue announcement soon enough. Minneapolis has reportedly submitted their bid to host the 41st annual show of shows.

Minneapolis Looking for WrestleMania 41

Minnesota officially submitted its bid to host WrestleMania 41, as reported by The Star Tribune. The proposed venue for the event would be U.S. Bank Stadium. MNSE’s president and CEO, Wendy Blackshaw, expresses optimism, stating, “We are hopeful, and I hope we get it. It would be amazing.”

It was first reported by Sean Ross Sapp in July 2023 that Minneapolis has been heavily discussed within WWE as a potential location for WrestleMania 41 in 2025. The city planners of Minneapolis had leaked this information to local media, but WWE officials confirmed that Minneapolis was just one of several cities expressing interest.

Expected WrestleMania 41 Venue

U.S. Bank Stadium is favored as the venue due to its capacity and climate-controlled dome, unlike Target Field, which may face weather-related challenges. Despite previous leaks jeopardizing Minneapolis’ chance to host WrestleMania in the past, WWE views U.S. Bank Stadium as a top-tier venue for such events.

Last week, it was also strongly hinted at during a committee hearing that Minnesota may land WrestleMania. The show of shows was not revealed, but it was said that the event in question is second-biggest only to the Super Bowl.

SEScoops will have plenty of updates on this story as additional information is made known. The road to WrestleMania is always exciting, and that may include announcing the destination for next year’s showcase of the immortals.

Mercedes Mone’s Strategic AEW Signing: The Inside Story

0

Mercedes Mone made her debut for AEW at Big Business in Boston on March 13. This debut was expected, but there is a lot more to it.

A lot of things went into Mercedes Mone’s debut for AEW. It was quite a road, but now she is All Elite, but how long has this deal been underway? It appears that she was associated with AEW for months prior to her debut.

Mone is All Elite

Mercedes Mone made her official debut as a member of the All Elite Wrestling roster at Big Business on March 13, but reports suggest she’s been associated with AEW for over two months prior. According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select, negotiations began well before her debut, with some indicating that discussions began as early as December when Mercedes secured several trademarks related to her name. Although details about the contract remain unconfirmed, it’s believed to be a multi-year agreement.

Furthermore, it’s been suggested that New Japan Pro Wrestling played a role in the negotiations, expecting to continue working with Mercedes extensively. However, it’s understood that AEW will be her primary focus. Mercedes endured a severe injury in May, which required two surgeries and a lengthy recovery period, preventing her from immediate in-ring action.

In the lead-up to her debut, there were initial talks between Mercedes and AEW, but they didn’t come to fruition. At one point, she explored options with WWE, but discussions stalled, leading to her eventual departure. Despite speculation about her potential appearances elsewhere, it became evident that AEW was the likely destination.

As discussions resumed in January, there were considerations for Mercedes’ debut, with dates in early January initially discussed. However, her physical clearance delayed these plans. Ultimately, AEW orchestrated her debut at the Big Business event in Boston without formal announcement, setting the stage for her introduction to the AEW audience.

Mercedes Mone’s Dealings With Other Companies

Amid rumors about a potential match with Giulia at NJPW Battle In The Valley, sources within NJPW reportedly refuted these claims, clarifying that no plans were made for her participation.

By the time of the WWE Royal Rumble, expectations were reportedly high for Mercedes’ AEW debut, with many within the wrestling community anticipating her arrival. The buildup to her debut at the Boston TD Garden show solidified her transition to the AEW roster, confirming her departure from WWE and setting the stage for her future endeavors in AEW.

SEScoops will have more on this story, and so much more. Mercedes Mone is All Elite, and this is an exciting time for fans.

Jim Ross Believes This Could Be His Last Year On AEW Commentary

0

Wrestling legend and All Elite Wrestling Commentator Jim Ross is preparing to slow down his career. He recently signed a new deal with the company to stay around as he hopes to use his years of wrestling broadcasting to good use. However, it seems this year could signal the end of his time as an AEW Commentator.

On his podcast, Grilling Jr., Ross said he believes this year could be his last as a commentator. The episode is currently on AdFreeShow Patreon, but WrestlePurist’s Twitter account was able to transcribe the following quote.

“…It’s realistic to think that (this will be last year in commentary). I’m 72 years old, I feel good, I get healthier every day, which is great, but I have to think realistically this could be my last year and more than likely will,” said Ross.

He also noted that his situation is still being determined and that his future as a commentator depends on himself and AEW President Tony Khan. Ross has shared that his new deal isn’t an extension but an entirely new contract. The company could use him in other business areas if he were to be removed from commentary for good.

His wealth of experience as a former WWE Executive Vice President of Talent Relations makes him very valuable for helping behind the scenes. He can also coach other potential AEW broadcasters to help them follow in his footsteps. That said, Ross seems to have started preparing himself to finish his phenomenal career as a commentator.

Jim Ross Current Health Update

One of the positive news Ross shared recently is that he is getting healthier after having surgery to remove cancer in his right hip. He had surgery on February 1 and seems to be recovering fine with the assistance of a walking cane.

On the March 7 episode of Grilling JR, he noted that he had his cane with him when he did commentary for AEW Revolution on March 3. He also reassured fans that he really uses it to initially move after being stationary for some time and that he feels good.

Khan has shown that he values Ross’s contributions to the broadcast team and ensures he is comfortable on the job. While it’s unfortunate that this may be JR’s last dance as a commentator, fans should celebrate the work he is still doing for AEW.

Mercedes Mone Is All Elite: Former Sasha Banks Makes AEW Debut During Big Business

0

AEW brought an exciting Big Business edition of Dynamite to fans in Boston this week. The debut of Mercedes Mone was expected, and fans were not disappointed.

After a lot of speculation and many reports that she is coming to the Land of All Elite, Mercedes Mone made her debut for AEW at Big Business on March 13th.

Mercedes Mone’s AEW Debut

AEW Dynamite opened up this week with Renee Paquette doing a talk-up backstage to hype tonight’s show. Then, a Maybach pulled up behind her, but they didn’t show who got out of the car at that time.

Then the show opened up with a new star’s music, and CEO showed on the big screen. That morphed into Mercedes Mone, and she made her way out to a big ovation from the Boston crowd.

She said that she is home, and then she thanked fans for sticking by her. She said that they will create magic in AEW, and she said that they are the reason that she is there.

Mercedes then said that she is in AEW to make a big impression. She can’t wait to mix it up with the women in the roster and have some incredible matches. She brought up unfinished business she has with Willow, but she said that the biggest business she had to said that she is All Elite.

Mercedes Mone & WWE

WWE and Mercedes Mone were talking about her coming back to the company. Then they hit a financial roadblock.

It was later reported that Mone wasn’t asking for more than the top female makes on the WWE roster. That being said, AEW was obviously able to offer her more, and now she is All Elite.

We will have to see if her road ever takes her back to WWE. At this point, she is just getting started in AEW.

SEScoops will have continued coverage of Mercedes Mone’ run in AEW. You never know what can happen next at this point.

Nic Nemeth Joins The Hosting Team At Busted Open Radio

0

Popular free agent Nic Nemeth is having a career resurgence after leaving WWE last year. He has been appearing on the independent wrestling scene for TNA and New Japan Pro Wrestling. However, he’s taking another step in his wrestling career by joining SiriusXM Busted Open.

Dave LaGreca announced on the recent SiriusXM Busted Open episode that he is excited about Nemeth’s addition to the team.

When speaking about joining the podcast, Nemeth said, “…For someone who loves watching wrestling, as you all know, hopefully, my insight of being able to survive for 19 years at 5’11, 195 pounds, having no friends in the office, somehow that can apply to this, but mostly me figuring out which channel wrestling is on would be the best part.”

It was noted that Nemeth’s schedule for the show’s appearances has yet to be figured out. However, he will appear in the March 15 episode with LaGreca.

The move to wrestling media could be great for fans to get the perspective of someone as accomplished in WWE as Nemeth. He also showed good chemistry with LaGreca, Bully Ray, and Tommy Dreamer, which is promising for his future on the podcast.

Nic Nemeth On His Excitement On Being An Independent Wrestler & His Future

Nemeth has been making waves in wrestling since making his shocking debut at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 on January 4. A month later, he defeated David Finlay to become the IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion. He’s also teased challenging TNA World Champion Moose, which can happen later this year.

The IWGP champion spoke about his newfound excitement about being an independent wrestler. He also shared that he is catching up with more wrestling from different promotions and where he feels he could test himself.

“…I love it. There is an entire world out there that I’ve never even seen in person or been face-to-face with anyone, and there are a million opponents that I’ve never even been in a locker room with, so I’m excited for the wrestling part, but also the part where I’m learning and following all the television aspect of it and pay-per-views and premium live event, however you guys say them depending on the company. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into it,” said Nemeth.

Nemeth’s move to becoming an independent wrestling star seems to be going well. He is gaining traction on his own and is enjoying the direction of his career in 2024.

AEW Big Business: WWE Superstars In Town Ahead Of Major Debut (Spoilers)

0

AEW is ready to light Boston up with tonight’s ‘Big Business’ show, and two WWE Superstars have come to Beantown to support their debuting ally.

Much of that buzz around AEW Big Business surrounds Mercedes Mone, who is expected to make her official AEW debut during tonight’s show. Mone, who has been on AEW’s payroll for some time, has hardly been subtle when it comes to her involvement in the show.

WWE Superstars in Boston

Mone’s debut is being seen by many as a sure thing, and the presence of two WWE Superstars certainly adds credence to the belief she’ll debut. Bayley and Naomi, both close friends of Mone, are in Boston ahead of tonight’s show, PW Insider reports.

The three have been closely linked for years, with Bayley and Mone being the ‘Boss ‘n Hug Connection’ in WWE while it was with Naomi that Mone walked out of that same promotion two years ago. Bayley and Naomi made the trip to Japan in January 2023 to watch Mone make her NJPW debut at that year’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event. The pair were also at NJPW Battle in the Valley 2023, which saw Mone capture the IWGP Women’s Championship

Bayley and Mone were in attendance when Naomi, as Trinity, made her debut for TNA Wrestling (IMPACT Wrestling at the time) in May of last year. The pair were also present at TNA Hard to Kill 2024, which saw Trinity lose the TNA Knockouts Championship to current champ Jordynne Grace.

AEW Dynamite – March 13th, 2024

Here is what fans can look forward to on tonight’s show.

  • AEW World Championship: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Wardow
  • The Elite vs. Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo & Pac

Tony Khan Vows He Won’t Disappoint Fans with AEW Big Business Dynamite

0

Fans of AEW will be very satisfied with what transpires on tonight’s ‘Big Business’ edition of Dynamite, Tony Khan has promised.

AEW Big Business will be the first show of its name and has garnered a ton of buzz. Much of that buzz surrounds Mercedes Mone, who is expected to make her official AEW debut during tonight’s show. Mone, who has been on AEW’s pay-roll for some time, has hardly been subtle when it comes to her involvement in the show.

Tony Khan’s Vow

While many see Mone’s debut as a done deal, AEW President Tony Khan has unsurprisingly not commented on the reports of her much-anticipated arrival. Speaking with Scott Fishman of TV Insider, Khan didn’t reference the Mone rumors by name but guaranteed a satisfying show.

“I promise I will not disappoint the fans tonight. There has been an influx of huge names, and tonight is the biggest show yet.”

Khan also spoke about his roster, which he believes to be the best in wrestling, and is confident tonight’s show will showcase something very special.

“I think that constant innovation and the perpetual strides toward always wanting to get better are a big part of the spirit of AEW. I think tonight’s Big Business show on TBS will showcase that innovation.”

AEW Dynamite – March 13th, 2024

Here is what fans can look forward to on tonight’s show.

Jerry ‘The King Lawler Set to Appear At 3/15 Episode of SmackDown

0

One of the most decorated champions in wrestling will be at this Friday’s SmackDown when the blue brand comes to Memphis, TN.

Memphis’ own Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler is set to appear on this Friday’s edition of WWE SmackDown, PW Insider reports. Lawler recently pulled out of an appearance in new York City originally set for Saturday, March 16.

Lawler, a WWE Hall of Famer, last appeared for WWE during the August 28, 2023, episode of WWE Monday Night RAW. Lawler did not appear on screen though, as his segment saw him brought out by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens during a commercial break. It is unclear if Lawler’s appearance at SmackDown will be broadcast or solely for his fellow Memphis residents to see.

WWE SmackDown – March 15

This week’s SmackDown will see more than just an appearance by Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler. The show will also see The Rock make an appearance as part of his recent heel run. It is believed that the Great One will host a ‘Rock Concert’ during the episode.

This Friday’s SmackDown will also see Bayley seek to gain a measure of revenge on Dakota Kai. The Kiwi Superstar turned on Bayley last week, reaffirming her role as part of Damage CTRL. Tis week’s show will also see the first of a series of qualifying tag-team matches. The winners will be part of the six-pack Undisputed Tag Title Ladder Match at WrestleMania 40.

  • FTW Champion Hook and ‘Lionheart’ Chris Jericho vs. Gates of Agony

All this would make for a memorable edition of Dynamite, but there’s much more in store for fans tuning in…

Boss Time

AEW President Tony Khan has hyping Big Business as, “one of the biggest nights ever in AEW.” Promoters gonna promote, but Khan’s hype has been in the context of teasing yet another major talent acquisition.

During a new interview with SEScoops correspondent Scott Fishman for TV Insider, Khan was asked if AEW fans should brace for a surprise or two on Dynamite.

“Of course,” Khan Replied. “I promise I will not disappoint the fans tonight. There has been an influx of huge names, and tonight is the biggest show yet.”

Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on All Elite Wrestling and the arrival of Mercedes Mone (former WWE Superstar Sasha Banks).

Thunderbolt Patterson Added to WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024

0

Thunderbolt Patterson, an influential though often overlooked name in wrestling, will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on the eve of WrestleMania 40. He will be inducted on Friday, April 5, following that evening’s episode of WWE SmackDown.

Patterson began his wrestling career by moving to Texas and working with Dory Funk Sr. (father of WWE Hall of Famers Dory Funk Jr. and Terry Funk.) His dedication to wrestling saw him move far from his home in Iowa.

Patterson immediately captivated audiences with his interviews that featured a delivery reminiscent of Black Southern church pastors. It was this charisma that his contemporary Virgil Runnels would take inspiration from, transforming the son of a plumber into the ‘American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes.

In the ring, Patterson faced legends including Bruiser Brody and WWE Hall of Famer The Sheik. He was also an accomplished tag-team wrestler and was an ally of the late Ole Anderson. The two would eventually split and their brutal rivalry would serve as a catalyst for the launch of the legendary Four Horseman.

Behind the scenes, Patterson was vocal about supporting his fellow wrestlers and ensuring fair treatment. He spoke openly about ensuring the health and safety for wrestlers and was also vocal against racial discrimination in the industry.

WWE Hall of Fame 2024

Thunderbolt Patterson is the fifth name confirmed for this year’s class of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Earlier this month, Paul Heyman was announced as an inductee after turning down the honor in the past. More recently, Bull Nakano was announced as a WWE Hall of Fame inductee. The Japanese star is a former WWE Women’s Champion and is currently the commissioner for the all-women’s Sukeban promotion.

The US Express will be inducted this year, the only tag team to have received the nod so far. Boxing icon Muhammad Ali will be posthumously inducted on April 5.

Daily Drop (3/13): John Cena WrestleMania Update, Another AEW Debut

0

Welcome to SEScoops: the Daily Drop, your go-to for the latest news and rumors in wrestling for Wednesday, March 13. A lot of things changed in the past 24 hours, so let’s take a look.

Days until WrestleMania 40: 24

Tonight is AEW Dynamite Big Business, and AEW fans are expecting Mercedes Mone’s debut for the company. That being said, expect updates as we get closer to the big Boston show, and afterward.

WWE:

John Cena is not locked in for WrestleMania 40 yet. I was told that they are still working on him. For what it’s worth, James Gunn said that Peacemaker season 2 is slated for the summer, so that probably won’t affect Mania. We will have to see what they can work out.

WWE confirmed that SummerSlam 2024 is coming to Cleveland on August 3rd at the Cleveland Browns Stadium.

– The March 11th episode of Monday Night RAW attracted 1.751 million viewers, showing growth from the previous week’s viewership of 1,649,000. Additionally, this week’s show achieved a 0.56 rating in the highly coveted 18-49 demographic, up from last week’s rating of 0.54.

– While making the big SummerSlam announcement, Logan Paul also said that Dave Chappelle, and so many more, will be at the biggest party of the summer in Cleveland.

Trick Williams seemingly confirmed his relationship with Lash Legend during WWE NXT this week in a very public way.

KSI strangely called himself the Next Shane McMahon. So, take that for what it’s worth.

– Odds are, Gigi Dolin’s character on WWE NXT is about to go through a bit of a change.

John Cena said he is retiring from in-ring competition at 50-years-old.

WWE NXT 2024 Stand & Deliver Card (So Far):

  • Ilja Dragunov (c) vs. Tony D’Angelo – Singles match for the NXT Championship
  • Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker (c) vs. Tournament Winners – Tag team match for the NXT Tag Team Championship
  • Carmelo Hayes vs Trick Williams

AEW:

– As expected, Mercedes Mone has arrived in Boston ahead of AEW Dynamite this week.

Shelton Benjamin reacted to the reports that he’s talking to AEW. He didn’t say no, but he also didn’t 100% confirm it. Odds are, the former Hurt Business member will find his way to the Land of All Elite.

CJ Perry said that social media has really been getting her down since the Miro split.

AEW star Buddy Matthews was shown during WWE RAW alongside Rhea Ripley at UFC 299. They did not name him, but Pat McAfee did ask who Ripley was with. Michael Cole just carried on with the show instead of addressing the former WWE Superstar in the photo.

– During SXSW, Bryan Danielson made it clear that he doesn’t want to win the AEW World Title. He said, ”I’ve had some people ask me or say things to me like, ‘Oh Bryan, you should be champion or you should’ve been champion’ or you should’ve this or you should’ve that and the reality is to me, no, the champions that we’ve had have been great. Hangman (Adam Page) was a great champion, MJF was a great champion and it elevated these younger people to where now these people are stars and you put Hangman on TV now and he draws a rating. You put MJF on TV, he draws a rating. It would be easy to just take stars of the past and make them your champion and make them your top guy. That’s the easy way. It’s much harder to take somebody like MJF who hadn’t been on national television and turn him into a star that draws ratings… That was my bigger goal is to transfer stardom from one generation to another.”

Sting’s first post-AEW retirement appearance will go down at Galaxy Con on March 16th,

AEW Dynamite Big Business 3/13 Card:

  • AEW World Championship: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Wardlow
  • The New Elite vs. Pac, Penta, and Eddie Kingston

  • Willow Nightingale vs. Riho, marking
  • Mercedes Mone’s Expected AEW Debut in Boston

Upcoming Major Pro Wrestling Events:

  • AEW Dynamite: Big Business will be hosted at Boston’s TD Garden on March 13th.
  • WWE NXT Stand & Deliver is slated for the afternoon of April 6th, just before the start of WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia.
  • WrestleMania XL is set to take place on April 6th and 7th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a two-part event.

Alexa Bliss Responds To A Fan Asking Her Thoughts On Mercedes Mone

0

WWE star Alexa Bliss was recently asked about Mercedes Mone (formerly Sasha Banks in WWE) and ‘The Goddess’ had nothing but praise for the former NJPW star.

Alexa Bliss and former IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone have a fair share of history and their rivalry stemmed from their days in NXT. The duo have presented several memorable matches and their rivalry remains to be one of the best chapters in the company. Going back and forth on multiple occasions, Mercedes Mone has certainly earned Bliss’ respect.

Alexa Bliss recently held a Q&A session on Twitter/X and she was asked about her former rival in WWE, Mercedes Mone, who departed WWE in 2022 due to issues with the creative team.

Alexa Bliss comments on Mercedes Mone

One of the fans asked Alexa Bliss to share her thoughts on the former Sasha Banks and she responded with a two-worded answer.

Here is what Alexa Bliss said:

“Very talented”

Mercedes Mone has been the talk of the town ahead of the highly expected debut in AEW tonight. Last month, AEW President Tony Khan had announced that on March 13, AEW Dynamite will take place at the TD Garden in Boston, MA. Fans have since speculated that the location and the show’s name being dubbed “Big Business” could mean that Mercedes Mone will make her debut at the show.

Fans are eagerly waiting for tonight’s ‘Big Business’ edition of AEW Dynamite and we will have to wait and see how it goes down in her hometown.

Ex-WWE Star Cinta de Oro Felt “Naked” After Being Forced to Unmask in 2011

0

Cinta de Oro was no fan of being forced to unmask in 2011 and has admitted that he felt ‘naked’ when said unmasking happened in WWE.

De Oro is known for his WWE run as Sin Cara, but he was the second Superstar to don the mask and name. De Oro became Sin Cara after the original man behind the mask, known as Mistico in CMLL, was suspended for 30 days for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy.

Feeling Naked

Later that same year, the first Sin Cara confronted de Oro’s imposter version, with the pair being dubbed Sin Cara Azul (Mistico) and Sin Cara Negro (de Oro.) This feud culminated with a Mask Vs. Mask match on a Mexico City edition of SmackDown in which de Oro lost.

Sitting down with Sportskeeda’s Wrestle Binge podcast, de Oro recalled being told of his unmasking and how upset he was at the time.

“I was very devastated because I had never wrestled without a mask in my career… Without a mask, I felt like I was naked. I didn’t feel it was me.”

Time as a Lucha Dragon

Ironically, Cinta de Oro would re-mask years later after the original Sin Cara was released by WWE but the promotion wanted to keep the character going. By 2014, he was part of the Lucha Dragons and would capture the NXT Tag Team Championships with Kalisto that same year. In the interview though, de Oro shared his honest take on being a Lucha Dragon.

I used to hate when they would tell me to do this (mimics Lucha chants). I felt like I was a cheerleader… But then as the crowd started loving it, then you become part of it.”

Eventually, de Oro’s time with WWE would come to an end in 2019 after he asked for his release. That same year, he would return to Mexico to compete for AAA.

“That’s A Wrestler!” Booker T Praises John Cena’s ‘Nude’ Oscars Stunt in the Name of Entertainment

0

John Cena proved the lengths he’ll go to entertain with his viral appearance the 2024 Oscars, according to his friend and former rival Booker T.

At this year’s Academy Awards, Cena was on-hand to present the award for ‘Best Costume’ alongside Jimmy Kimmel. In a throwback to the 1974 ceremony that saw a streaker interrupt a speech by David Niven, Cena appeared in the ‘nude’ and covered his unmentionables with a large envelope.

Of course, Cena wasn’t actually nude at the Oscars, despite what some may believe. Backstage photos have revealed he wore skin-colored trunks to give the illusion of nudity.

John Cena at the Oscars

Cena’s performance at the Oscars immediately went viral with people from both in and out of wrestling weighing in. Addressing what happened in Tinseltown during the latest episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said it demonstrated how willing John is to entertain.

“That was risky, but it just goes to show you how far we have come and how far John is willing to go to entertain. That’s all. That’s all it is. That’s a wrestler, doing something like that. Wrestlers gonna put themselves out there.”

What’s Next?

John is hoping to appear (clothed no less!) at WrestleMania 40 when the Showcase of the Immortals comes to Philadelphia, PA next month. The show will be the fifth-annual two-night WrestleMania, a tradition which began thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of right now, there have not been any publicly confirmed plans for the 16-time WWE World Champion.

Buff Bagwell: The Biggest Takeaways from Dark Side of the Ring Spotlight on WCW Alum

0

The latest episode of Dark Side of the Ring that focused on the life of Marcus ‘Buff’ Bagwell proved to be quite the spotlight on the infamous WCW star.

Here are just some of the many interesting talking points from the latest Dark Side of the Ring.

Buff Loves His Family

Right from the start, we get a sense of Buff’s love for his family, which is paid for in kind. The episode opens with Bagwell in his mother’s office that is filled with pictures and magazine covers of his wrestling career. Bagwell makes clear that his success comes down to the late Judy Bagwell and her drive.

Bagwell adds that from a young age, his family saw big things in him. It is mentioned that there was wrestling on TV growing up by there was never an inkling of getting into the business.

Buff’s Father’s Parenting

Buff isn’t the only notable Bagwell as his father Steve was a famous drag racer and self-made millionaire. Steve was the more calmer of the Bagwell parents but really lost it if he lost his cool. Former WCW and TNA referee, Mark “Slick” Johnson recalls a time when Steve lost a bet and fired a machine gun on a bunch of geese in anger. Steve confirms the story is true.

Another example of Steve’s parenting saw him hand out bags of cocaine to his son and his friends and would tell them “Have fun tonight but stay out of trouble.” The rationale was that if his son was going to get drugs, he’d rather he get them from a trusted source.

Buff and the NWO

Buff says he didn’t need to be asked twice about joining the NWO. He said his time in the faction changed his career and he was thrilled to be in the ring with such talent.

Buff on Monday Night Raw

After WCW’s collapse, Bagwell was signed to WWE in 2001 but after a critically panned match on Raw against Booker T, he was let go shortly after. Buff says he didn’t think the match was bad, but it wasn’t a barn-burner five-star classic either. Addressing being fired within days of the match. He said:

“I had a horrible match? So What? I am Buff Bagwell….why would you get fired over a bad match?”

Losing His Mom & Getting Clean

In November 2021, Judy Bagwell passed away after a battle with Alzheimer’s. This is the most difficult loss in Buff’s live and Steve breaks down talking about his wife. Steve recalls her final moments in which Judy fell into a state where she could not wake up and Steve spent over an hour trying to get her to wake. Buff says everyone says their mom is the best but he knows his was the best.

Judy’s death is seen as a wake-up call to Buff, who’s issues with substances is addressed multiple times in the episode. Buff talks about working to get sober after his niece made clear that he had to or the family would leave him. Buff shares his gratitude to ‘Diamond’ Dallas Page for all his work.

Feeling the Love

Buff’s ex-wives, Judy (not his mom) and Tonya say they still love and support him and that he has a great support network. Eric Bischoff adds that Buff is a lovable guy and that’s why his ex-wives still love him, and that’s he loves him. Steve says he’s most proud of Buff for working on staying sober and  Tonya concludes by saying she’s rooting for him.
