Bobby Lashley Still Not Medically Cleared, Despite WrestleMania Plans

0

WrestleMania 38 is just one week away, but Bobby Lashley’s status for the event remains unclear.

Lashley has been out of action since January’s Royal Rumble. The Almighty captured the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar (with help from Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns), but he suffered a shoulder injury during the match and hasn’t wrestled since.

The shoulder injury was so bad that it was feared that Lashley would require major surgery. That procedure never took place. WWE officials have been making plans for Lashley at WrestleMania. He’s slated to face Omos at the event, if he’s healthy.

The fact that WWE has yet to announce Lashley vs. Omos this late in the game says a lot about where things stand. As of this week, Lashley is not medically cleared to wrestle, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

In the event that Bobby Lashley is not cleared over the next several days, WWE will have to act on contingency plans for Omos.

Check out the link below for the current match card for WrestleMania, as well as start times and how to watch the event depending on your region.

Paul Wight Confirms Captain Insano Is Coming To AEW Soon

0

When Paul Wight signed with AEW in 2021, people expected a lot of things. None of the fans, however, would have expected to see the former world champion busting out one of the craziest personas of his career – Captain Insano.

Though according to Wight, that’s exactly what we will be seeing very soon.

The man formerly known as the Big Show revealed this news during an interview on The Rob Brown Show. He confirmed that Tony Khan has secured the rights to the character from The Waterboy movie. They have already started working on creative plans for the gimmick:

“I’ve been lucky enough for being able to keep a job for a long time because I’ve been versatile. I think it’s a jack of all trades master of none. So the versatility has kept me around for a long time but Tony Khan and I have some pretty fun stuff coming up in the future that him and I put together. We’ve actually secured the rights to Captain Insano. So we are gonna break out Captain Insano [pretty soon]. [He] will be coming out in the next couple [of] months.”

Captain Insano Will Be Running Wild

The AEW star also joked (?) that he will be taking inspiration from Hulk Hogan, real name Terry Bollea for the character:

“So that’s why I’ve kind of toned down a little bit on the in-ring performing as well. We’re kind of let that settling and just doing the commentary. I’m getting wardrobe put together now for the outfits. Max Dunbar who’s incredible comic book design guy helped draw the outfit up for Captain Insano. We’re getting that made now and before you know it Captain Insano is gonna be running wild in AEW dude.

So, you know, and I’m probably gonna rip poor Terry off but hopefully, he discovered me. Hopefully he’ll give me a pass as long as I don’t drop too many copyrighted phrases, I think I’ll be okay with it.”

Paul Wight On If He Prefers Being Heel Or Face

0

Paul Wight has been active in the sports entertainment business for almost three decades. In this time he has portrayed many different characters and competed for the three major wrestling companies of his time, namely WCW, WWE, and now AEW. Over the years, Wight has gotten to portray both heel and babyface characters multiple times, but which one does the heavyweight star prefer?

The former world champion was asked this question during his appearance on The Rob Brown Show. Replying to it, he claimed that he loves both. Though he later explained how being the bad guy suits his presence and size more:

“It’s funny, I love all of those. I think what suits my presence and size is when I’m [the] bad guy, when I’m a heel in our business. It’s an easier story to tell because we’ve all seen David and Goliath. We all understand it’s not the size of the dog in a fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog. And all that other motivational stuff that sinks in with us on a deep psychological level,” explained Paul Wight, “People understand overcoming big obstacles, whether it’s hurdles in our life and even through evolution, we’ve had to evolve and overcome hurdles.

So seeing a physical representation of that in the ring, portraying a character that is not necessarily popular. It’s a much easier pendulum to swing as a talent. It’s a little harder to get sympathy. It’s a little harder as a performer, to create a story in which you’re vulnerable. Or a smaller guy can get you in a vulnerable position physically. So it’s a harder story to tell. I think, personally, I like doing the more interactive fun stuff, where the energy is high.”

WWE Officials ‘Very High’ On AEW Talent

0

AEW has not only given a platform to many former WWE talents to reinvent themselves but they have also helped put the spotlight on talents that were relatively unknown before.

Latest reports suggest that WWE officials have also taken notice of one such rising star who has recently re-signed with the promotion.

Mat Man podcast‘s Andrew Zarian noted that Ethan Page is a superstars WWE is very high on. They apparently like Page’s whole deal and think that he is super talented.

Zarian claimed that he knows for a fact that there are eyes on the AEW star because he’s a good-looking guy who can also cut promos.

Though it’s worth mentioning that Ethan Page has recently signed a new contract with AEW. So the possibility of him joining WWE anytime soon is not very high.

Regardless, the wrestling journalist mentioned how Page has the TV look. Now that he has re-signed with AEW, they have to do something with him to keep him happy.

At 32 years old, Ethan Page is a relatively young prospect who has at least a decade left in his career. He has previously wrestled for promotions such as ROH and Impact Wrestling as well.

“This is Bull****” A Non-WWE Fan Samples Raw (Editorial)

“This is Bull****” – A non-WWE fan watches Raw for the first time in five years. He survived to write this

By B.J. Bethel

I was assured by other wrestling fans that the episode of Raw that aired on Monday, March 21, was a better than average episode.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt for the simple reason that I haven’t watched Raw in years. But if this was above average, I wonder how low an episode must go to be below average. Are they three-hour documentaries on regrettable history like Katie Vick? Do they toss fans off cages Foley style? I’m not sure I have the imagination to contemplate such a thing.

This brings us back to this week, the above average episode, which – to quote William F. Buckley – I had to flog myself to watch this show. It was a three-hour assault on my senses, including the most important sense of all – common sense.

I gave this show a fair shot, one that it didn’t deserve. Comparing WWE to AEW isn’t fair. One show is on the cutting edge of the industry, the other is a shadow of itself thanks to a monopoly position that allowed it to get lazy. I’m fortunate I didn’t decide to watch Raw while something regularly epic like the G1 was occurring, it would have been fair to WWE. The company is not capable of producing a product like the G1. I’m not sure it could put together a PPV that would satisfy its target audience as well as GCW.

WWE has always been the pro wrestling show for people who hate pro wrestling. Now it’s the show for people who hate themselves. A show with Seth Rollins and A.J. Styles in the main event should be easy enough to build to, but WWE finds way to make it tedious, idiotic and nonsensical.

The show revolved around one story; Seth Rollins doesn’t have a match at WrestleMania. From research, this has been a habit of recent years. Certain wrestlers don’t have set title or feuds going on, so they are left on the outside looking in. This is supposed to build some suspense if Main Eventer In Question could possibly not make the biggest PPV or the year. It’s telling how little WWE thinks of its full-time main event roster that it would tease leaving them off the show – something you can’t imagine with a Brock Lesnar or the company’s chosen one, Roman Reigns.

Rollins lost by DQ, because bad guy Edge hit Styles with a chair. Rollins goes ballistic. He’s screaming, “This is bullshit,” (I agree. But Rollins should have been chanting this throughout the show) repeatedly and said the Raw after WrestleMania won’t happen if he can’t get on the card for the big show. If Rollins could pull this off, he would be the top babyface in history in my mind, but unfortunately we know this won’t be the case.

The show has too much production, too many camera movements, too many backstage segments, too many cheesy, cringey lines from the announce crew and too little wrestling. Pro wrestling was popular in the very early days of television because it was simple to film. There are over 70 years of history of pro wrestling on TV, it shouldn’t be difficult to film it without the nonsensical camera cuts.

The show started with Steve Austin’s theme music, but it’s bait for the fans. Kevin Owens emerged dressed as Austin with a bald cap. Fans cheer, then boo. It’s cheap heat, something WWE goes to the well with too often, but Owens is good enough to make this work and build heat. It’s easy to see why Austin would love to work with Owens, he’s one of the best in the business, he’s given him permission to use his finisher and a match between the two would be something special if it were to occur. Right now we’re promised only some kind of confrontation.

Rey Misterio and his son Dominik take on Bobby Roode and Dolph ZIggler. The Miz makes an appearance and steals Rey Misterio’s mask. His son quickly grabs him a towel. This would be more effective if Misterio hadn’t wrestled without a mask for years, but it’s The Miz, we can’t ask anything too complicated of him.

The Miz grew up in suburban Cleveland and went to a sizable school district. He later went to Miami University before he was on MTV’s Real World, which helped launch his wrestling career and began his character as a dry, lifeless frat character who said he had never met an Africa American before the show. I was told by numerous classmates of his this was a lie, so obviously a pro wrestling career was a natural progression for him.

Becky Lynch was once the hottest wrestler in the business, now she’s colder than ice. An ill-timed heel turn and a feud with the talented Bianca Belair hasn’t done well for her. Watching Lynch, the women’s tag match and the 24/7 title match, WWE is quickly dropping back in the race for best women’s division. They always have the big four, and a talented group around them, but when they dig lower into the mid-card the roster has some weaknesses after all the cuts.

Why is Pat McAfee on my television? He was a punter for the Colts, and the one not referred to as “idiot kicker” by Peyton Manning. He’s jawing with Austin Theory, apparently this is a feud. McAfee is in good shape and his talk radio experience has made him a good talker. That this is sticking out is an indictment of the show.

Matt Riddle is now known as Riddle. I’m not sure if this is a setup for a Batman villain character, but it wouldn’t pair right with the stoner vibe. I remember how hated Rob Van Dam hated being portrayed as a stoner idiot. Randy Orton and Riddle defend their tag titles with a win, but Riddle gets squashed afterward. The Street Profits attack and perform one of the dumbest spots I’ve seen in a while, a double team DDT out of a Hart Attack setup that could have ended badly for Riddle. Big E broke his neck on WWE programming recently, and another wrestler was taken off in a stretcher. This isn’t ballet and there’s always a danger factor. The most protective wrestlers can hurt someone bad, but WWE has a lot of talent that looks very green and is doing things it shouldn’t be doing.

This angle surrounding the 24/7 title was the bottom of the show. Tamina Snuka has assumed Akira Tozawa as a valet, and it’s such a stereotypical disaster. Tozawa is wearing a martial arts gi and belt, he’s treated as an afterthought by Snuka. It’s almost impossible to imagine this is the same industry where Minoru Suzuki debuts in AEW and is treated as a legend and automatic main eventer.

That brings us to the problem with WWE and the problem with Raw. This is a TV show built on its own bullshit. It’s fat, happy, satisfied, lazy, bloated, slow and impossible to enjoy as a wrestling product. Rollins and Styles had a good match, but it wasn’t exactly Hangman Page vs. Adam Cole or Moxley vs. Danielson in the other company. There’s no energy, there’s no life. It’s stagnant, it’s an anachronism.

If you wanted to kill off Vince McMahon as a businessman and burn his reputation as a wrestling genius, he’s doing a better job of it himself than any of his supposed rivals like Ted Turner, which was a rivalry made up in the imagination of McMahon.

My dad worked at General Motors and I’ve been in the newspaper business at the end, when people didn’t believe the great unraveling was happening. Monopolies become monopolies because they make money despite themselves. Picking the right people and making the right decisions? Monopolies are insulated from those – until they aren’t. The company is no longer a monopoly thanks to AEW, and it’s falling behind the upstarts in gates.

Which makes me ask what the purpose of Raw is. AEW’s purpose is evident. Raw’s purpose seems to be lost, which means McMahon’s is lost, and he’s doing this all out of habit.

Hand it off, give it to Triple H if he’s healthy or when he gets healthy. Find a buyer and take the best deal you can get. Give it to Shane or Stephanie – give it to someone with some fire, and see where it can go. Right now, it’s not going anywhere, and that isn’t bullshit.

Kofi Kingston On Big E’s Neck Injury: “It Was The Scariest Night Of My Career”

0

Kofi Kingston was just as concerned for Big E as everyone else who witnessed his neck break.

On the March 11 episode of WWE SmackDown, Big E took an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland outside of the ring. E landed right on his head and neck and had to be stretchered out of the arena.

While Big E suffered a broken neck, he can move all his extremities, did not suffer a spinal injury, and won’t be needing surgery. A former WWE physician consultant does believe his in-ring career is in jeopardy, however.

Kofi Kingston Speaks On Big E’s Scary Injury

During an interview with Hot 97, Kofi Kingston recalled his initial reaction to Big E’s neck break (h/t Fightful).

“It was easily the scariest night of my career. Obviously, the injury didn’t happen to me, but I was on the inside of the ring. I see E go for that spear that he does, and he missed it, and he was on the outside there and then him and Ridge go for that overhead suplex and I see them go up and they looked a little like wonky.

“But I never saw the impact. So I didn’t really — I didn’t know, you know, I went over there and I was like, ‘Okay, everything looks fine,’ he’s down and everything and then the match goes on. After everything went down, [Jessika Carr] the ref was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t know if he’s okay.’

“I was like, ‘What? What’s going on?’ All of a sudden, the paramedics and everything started coming out.”

Time will tell if Big E will be able to return to the industry he’s thrived in. For now, fans are simply grateful that he can move around and will return to normalcy once he fully heals.

Former WWE Star Praises Paige VanZant: “She’s Definitely Bad Ass”

0

One former WWE star believes there is untapped potential with Paige VanZant in the wrestling industry.

VanZant made several appearances on AEW TV before signing with the promotion. PVZ is known for her pro MMA career but she’s made the transition to bare-knuckle boxing. BKFC President David Feldman recently announced that VanZant will be back in action on July 9 in London.

Gangrel On Paige VanZant Wrestling

Making it big in the wrestling industry takes more than an athletic background. With that said, Gangrel took to the Fangin N Bangin podcast to express his belief that Paige VanZant could thrive in AEW.

“I’ve met her and had a couple of training sessions with her. She’s definitely bad ass. She has a lot of talent. She’s very coachable. She has a passion for it. AEW should be happy in the long run with what’s going to go on with her. I don’t know if they signed her for a year or what the deal was, but she definitely has a lot of potential, definitely has talent.

“She’ll come along pretty well and pretty fast. What she’s learned in two sessions, let’s say three hours to be generous with those sessions, those three hours, it’s taken me three months to teach some people with talent. Six months for others. The fact that she’s a professional athlete and a ballerina. Dancing With The Stars is no joke.

“You have to be super disciplined and learn routines, dances, footwork, and form. All that comes into play. She’s making my job easy. I appreciate that. Hopefully it continues to be easy, she goes on to do great things, and I can say, ‘Oh, I had a part in that’.”

Gangrel has been training PVZ ahead of her in-ring debut. VanZant has been feuding with Tay Conti. She had been involved in a storyline with Brandi Rhodes before Brandi and Cody Rhodes left AEW.

Jeff Hardy Thought AEW Had Writers Before Promotional Debut

0

Jeff Hardy wasn’t clued in on AEW lacking writers.

For some former WWE stars, the adjustment from the Vince McMahon-led empire to a promotion such as AEW can take some time getting used to. We’ve seen Bryan Danielson admit that he enjoyed working with the writers in WWE and had to get used to having more freedom in his segments and matches.

Jeff Hardy Didn’t Get The Memo

Matt Hardy spoke to Under The Ring and he said that Jeff had no idea that AEW didn’t have writers ahead of his promotional debut on the March 9 episode of Dynamite (h/t Wrestling Inc).

“AEW is on a higher platform than a Ring of Honor or TNA. Especially with their television deal, which is lovely and is fantastic to have, and here, just being able to have input and help control your own destiny, it’s just an amazing feeling.

“Like my brother when he came in yesterday, or last week and we were talking about the segment I was doing with Andrade, he was like ‘oh, you know, do the writers have it how they want this to go?’ ‘Dude, there’s no writers here. They don’t have writers in AEW, that doesn’t happen. Literally, there’s a segment and this is kind of outline of what they’re thinking, and then you put the meat on the bone. You and your crew.’ And that’s what we did.”

The Hardys are involved in a feud with the Andrade Family Office. This began when Andrade kicked Matt out of his own faction. Andrade, along with other members of the AFO attacked Matt before Darby Allin and Sting hit the ring.

The numbers game was too great until Jeff Hardy made a surprise appearance and cleaned house.

WWE Reportedly Planned On Using nWo During WrestleMania Weekend

0

It appears WWE had plans for the nWo during this year’s WrestleMania festivities.

WWE planned for a promotional spot involving nWo members to promote WWE 2K22 (per Fightful). Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman grace the cover of the nWo 4-Life Edition of the video game.

These plans were in place before the passing of Scott Hall. Hall died on March 14 due to complications from hip replacement surgery. He was 63 years old.

At this time, there’s no word on whether or not WWE will go through with plans for the New World Order following Hall’s death.

Jon Moxley & Bryan Danielson Reveal Their Tag Team Name

0

Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson have history with one another, even before they were part of All Elite Wrestling. They competed with each other in the WWE and even before then.

With this shared history between them, Bryan Danielson wanted to team up Jon Moxley, so that they could mentor the young talents of AEW and shape them under their wing. Moxley was reluctant, saying that he and Danielson will have to bleed together before they can be partners. The both did just that at AEW Revolution, which Moxley came out winning. They both kept brawling even after the match until William Regal arrived and convinced them to be partners.

On this week’s Dynamite, Danielson and Moxley arrived as a tag team with Regal managing them. They dominated Varsity Blonds who they had a match against, and after the match, Moxley told Regal that he only cares about Lord William Regal’s opinion. According to him, getting Regal’s approval is a badge of honor that he will wear with pride. He made it clear to the locker room that they are “the three most sadistic bastards in the business” and they will go through anyone who gets in their way.

Moxley then revealed the name of their group, the Blackpool Combat Club.

“Blackpool” in the group’s name is a reference to where William Regal is billed from — the town of Blackpool in Lancashire, England.

William Regal made his debut at Revolution, and he has had a long history with Bryan Danielson. The two shared the ring for the final time on a WWE Superstars episode in November 2011. Regal recalled his emotional last match with Danielson in an interview, saying:

“I tore me meniscus in my right leg. The next night I’m on with Bryan. They were going ‘no you can’t wrestle, you can’t wrestle.’ I said ‘no I want to put him over because he is the person who has stuck around me and listened to all my nonsense for the last [so many years] and comment and called me and sent me stuff. And I’ve sent him to places and put good words in for him and whatever else. If there is one person I wanna to have my last match with its him.’ So if you watch that match, you will see me walk down to the ring and then they actually played a rib on me. [They] played my old Man’s man music halfway down the ramp. I’m glad because they had to help me in the building that day. I couldn’t walk. I don’t like giving away this you know, that old fashioned things. But If you watch that match it’s 17 minutes of him carrying me because I can’t walk. He did a masterful job. He actually even wrestled and did stuff on my leg without bending it.”

Ric Flair Partners with Mike Tyson for New Cannabis Products

0

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair and boxing legend Mike Tyson are now business partners.

Tyson, who is no stranger to the world of pro wrestling, is also a player in the world of legal cannabis. Back in December, he launched Tyson 2.0, which produces a line of premium cannabis strains sold through select retailers in Massachusetts and Nevada.

Tyson serves as the company’s Chief Brand Officer.

Ric Flair’s Tyson 2.0 Cannabis Products

Tyson 2.0 has acquired a majority stake in Ric Flair Drip Inc., an actual business entity owned by Ric Flair. The deal will see a line of Ric Flair-themed cannabis products.

In a press release sent out on Thursday, Flair commented on his entry into the world of legal marijuana. “Thanks to Mike Tyson and Tyson 2.0, I’ve become a true cannabis advocate and enthusiast,” said Flair. “I am thrilled to partner with a long time friend and fellow warrior whom I greatly admire and respect.”

“Tyson 2.0 products make me go ‘WOOOOO!’, and soon my fans everywhere can get in the Ric Flair state of mind – limousine riding, jet-flying, feeling good, and ‘WOOOOO!'”

– Ric Flair

Flair says there are a lot of synergies between him and Mike Tyson. They’ve both experienced extreme highs and lows throughout their personal and professional lives.

The Nature Boy tweeted a photo with Tyson on Thursday from Mike Tyson’s podcast studio, so it looks like Flair will be appearing on an upcoming episode of Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson.

Tyson 2.0 recently released Mike Bites, a line of cannabis-infused gummies in the shape of an ear with a bite taken out of it.

The Undertaker On Which Tombstone He’s Most Proud Of, Origin Of Move’s Name

0

The Undertaker’s finisher, The Tombstone Piledriver, is one of the most iconic wrestling moves. He has used this move throughout this career in the WWE, and recently he discussed the Tombstone Piledriver while appearing in a new interview with the Out of Character series on FOX Sports.

During the interview, The Undertaker was asked about the origins of the move, and who named his signature kneeling belly-to-belly variant of the piledriver as the “Tombstone Piledriver”. He was also asked about the most memorable moment delivering the move on someone.

The Undertaker explained that the name was developed by a number of people backstage.

“It was kind of a collaboration I think,” The Undertaker said. “It’s been so long ago, that honestly I can’t tell you… I don’t think I’m gonna take credit for it. I know there was a group of us, you know, Bruce Prichard, Pat Patterson, myself, and Michael Hayes probably was there. And we were trying to figure out what we were gonna name this thing and then someone just kinda visualized putting a tombstone on a grave and how heavy that would be and what it would look like. I think from that is how the name came up. It was putting a tombstone in front of a grave, so.”

RELATED: The Undertaker On Adjusting To Life After Wrestling

The Undertaker might have performed this maneuver hundreds if not thousands of times, and he does have an especially memorable one. When asked, he said, “The most memorable time that I hit the Tombstone… I’m gonna say Mark Henry. Because just of his sheer size, I wasn’t sure if I was gonna be able to do it or not. My number one goal, always, is to protect my opponent. I think the world of Mark and I knew at that particular time I was strong, I was healthy, but Mark is a big dude and he was really big dude when I Tombstoned him. I think that time just on the sheer fact that I was proud of myself that I had him, I Tombstoned him, I didn’t hurt him and we had a fairly decent match along with it.”

Gable Steveson On Babyface Brock Lesnar: “I Love Every Second Of It”

0

Brock Lesnar and Gable Steveson have a lot in common. Both heavyweight athletes are accomplished amateur wrestlers with two Division I heavyweight wrestling championships under their belts.

Steveson has signaled the end of his collegiate career. Now that he is getting ready to enter the world of professional wrestling, there is even more he can learn from The Beast Incarnate.

The WWE newcomer talked about Lesnar during his appearance on MMA Hour. He also discussed Brock Lesnar’s current run as a lovable baybayface character.

Brock Lesnar Is Bringing A Personality Nobody Has Seen

The Olympic Gold Medallist mentioned how Brock Lesnar is usually portrayed as a serious guy, and said that it’s cool that the world is getting to see the real him.

“I love every second of it.” Gable Steveson said addressing Brock Lesnar’s new persona

“I mean, he’s bringing a new personality to the world that nobody has seen, you know. If you know Brock behind the scenes, you know that he’s always a cool dude. He’s funny. He talks so much.” said Steveson, “But like that in person, like [his] TV persona has been a lot different lately. I think it’s cool for everybody to see like, that’s how he really is and he’s putting it out to the world.”

The Raw star also discussed Lesnar’s longtime advocate Paul Heyman. He praised the former ECW owner saying that Heyman is a wizard. According to Steveson, Paul Heyman is a genius at what he does. If you watch his work with Brock or Roman Reigns, you’d realize the same.

MJF On Why He Chose To Sign With AEW Over WWE

0

MJF is only 26 years old and he already is one of the most popular stars in the wrestling world. He had started gaining attention even before his signing with AEW. So much so that even WWE had shown interest in bringing him on board, but the former MLW star chose to sign with Tony Khan’s promotion instead.

The Pinnacle leader explained the reasoning behind his decision during an interview with veteran MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani.

WWE Interested in MJF

MJF claimed that the biggest question in his mind was which company would let him be his authentic self. After talking to Khan, he realized that AEW was the better fit for him:

“I knew there was serious interest in me in WWE, but again, I thought to myself, ‘Are they gonna let me be me?’ That’s my biggest thing. Because I’m not fake. Everything about me is real. Are you gonna let me do what I do best? Let me be me. Then I got to talking to Tony Khan.” recalled MJF, “I was linked up with him by my good friend Cody Rhodes. Hope you’re doing good buddy. And we talked for hours on end over the phone, me and my BFF TK, about mid-south [wrestling], about AWA, about Buddy Landel, about Butch Reed.

The Long Island wrestling prodigy continued, “And I immediately thought to myself, ‘Okay, this guy gets it, and he gets me.’ That’s what was the most important thing to me. So at that point in my career [it] was a no brainer. Now, you bring me anywhere, I’m gonna be a top guy in your promotion so it doesn’t really matter. But at that point, I needed to make sure I had the perfect launching off point in my career.”

MJF Loves ‘Everything WWE’s Doing’

0

The IWC is usually known to be critical of WWE programming. MJF on the other hand, loves everything the Vince McMahon-owned company is doing. The fastest rising star in the history of pro wrestling recently had an interview with Ariel Helwani. He first discussed how he has a lot of respect for the Executive Director of Raw and SmackDown Bruce Prichard.

Speaking of the WWE programming, MJF claimed that he loves everything they are doing. This includes the recent rebranding of NXT:

“See, I think WWE is doing great. I love everything WWE’s doing. I just think we are fresh and we have fresh faces that people haven’t seen before. I think right now everything that Vince [McMahon] and Bruce Prichard are putting out there is absolutely incredible. I love it. I love NXT 2.0. I love Raw, I love SmackDown.”

MJF also praised Roman Reigns and ‘fellow member of the tribe’ Paul Heyman for absolutely killing it. He showed his sympathy for what’s going on with Brock Lesnar, before returning to the topic:

“I think they’re putting out a great product. I think the big difference, quite frankly is that AEW has MJF. That’s the biggest difference-maker you could possibly have,”

The three times Dynamite Diamond Ring winner is currently feuding with his former bodyguard Wardlow. He sent Wardlow home after the heavyweight star cost him his match against CM Punk at Revolution.

Tony Khan Compares AEW’s PPV Numbers To WWE

0

AEW’s PPV sales have only been increasing event after event. This includes their latest PPV in Revolution and Tony Khan is leaving no opportunity to tout their success. The AEW owner discussed a number of things during his appearance on Busted Open Radio. This included CM Punk’s dog collar match with MJF at Revolution and more.

Talking about the PPV buyrates, Khan expressed that people probably don’t know the significance of the numbers they have been doing. He went on to compare their buy rates to WWE from a time where getting people to buy PPVs was easier:

“You look back for example at the competition, and before they stopped doing pay-per-views in 2013, at a time when it was arguably easier to get people to order a pay-per-view, or sit down and devote that time. But if it is an apples-apples comparison, nine years ago, at similar price points, we’re doing very similar sales.”

Tony Khan Talks WWE Network

Tony Khan continued his explanation mentioning how WWE was doing very similar numbers before the WWE Network was launched in 2014:

“For example, just looking at before the [WWE] Network came in, and of competition doing pay-per-view, you know, just look back at the pay-per-view numbers in 2013, they are very similar to the numbers we’ve done for our last few pay-per-views.”

The AEW President then mentioned how nobody outside of WWE has been able to pull the PPV numbers they are pulling since the 90s. Apart from this, Khan also talked about the debut of Jeff Hardy. He noted that Hardy is getting some of the biggest pops he has seen in wrestling.

The wrestling world has been buzzing about the future of Cody Rhodes for the past few weeks. Chris Jericho has now apparently confirmed his contractual status.

During the episode, Jericho discussed how he is able to keep his name wherever he goes because he owns the trademark for the same. He also apparently confirmed that Rhodes is back in WWE:

“I’m pulling back the curtain a little bit on the wrestling business, you’re gonna discover how I’ve been able to be Chris Jericho no matter what company I work for or where I wrestle.

You’ll hear how Danhausen gets to keep his name and gimmick from promotion to promotion.” said Chris Jericho, “How Cody got to reclaim Rhodes from WWE even though he’s back in WWE…”

WWE has been teasing the return of the former TNT champion for the last few weeks. Reports suggest that he has already signed a new contract with the company.

Moxley added that he and Danielson were “forged in combat”. Jon added that they are the three most sadistic bastards in the business and will go through anyone that gets in their way.

MJF Wants Everyone To Forget About Wardlow

MJF spoke tonight and addressed costing Wardlow his shot at the TNT Championship by interfering in his match against Scorpio Sky last week. Shawn Spears joined him in the ring and took a seat on the chair. Maxwell called the crowd white trash and claimed that he had Punk beat at Revolution. MJF said that CM Punk decided to cheat to win and vowed to give Punk the most embarrassing loss of his career down the line. Maxwell added that it won’t be over until he attends Punk’s funeral and piss on his grave.

Maxwell brought up Wardlow and called the crowd inbred because they cheered him. The crowd chanted “Wardlow!” even louder and MJF took credit for making Wardlow for signing him three years ago. MJF said that he put a roof over Wardlow and “that momma of his” head and claimed that Wardlow didn’t sign a deal with some shmuck, he signed a deal with the devil.

MJF called Wardlow “piggy” and vowed to make his life miserable. The crowd proved MJF right by breaking out in a “Jesus!” chant towards MJF. Maxwell vowed to strap Wardlow to a cross like Jesus and the crowd booed. Wardlow marched down the entrance ramp and beat down the security. Maxwell ordered a bunch more security to hold him down. MJF told Wardlow that he is going to keep paying him to stay home until all these people forget he existed. Maxwell told Wardlow to have fun in the mud “pig” and told security to get him out of here.

Jake Roberts On Cody Rhodes’ Future: I Want Him To Do Whatever He Wants

Jake Roberts simply wants Cody Rhodes to be happy.

Back in February, wrestling fans were shocked to learn that Cody and his wife Brandi Rhodes would be leaving AEW. Cody is one of the founding members of AEW and was known for taking shots at WWE.

Ultimately, he has decided to return to the Vince McMahon-led empire according to PWInsider.

Jake Roberts On Cody Rhodes’ Decision

During an episode of the DDP Snakepit Podcast, Jake Roberts said that if signing with WWE is what makes Cody Rhodes happy then he has to accept it (h/t Wrestling Inc).

“Whatever he wants. Whatever his heart desires that will allow him to be around his child as much as possible. I know what I missed over the years, being on the road all the time. Nobody should have to miss the things that I missed. Nobody.

“Kids growing up are the most important thing because they help keep you young, you know? Watch them enjoy the things that you did, maybe 20 years before, but you get to taste some more of that. I think it’s important. Certainly, a strong family base is so important these days.

“That’s my desire for him, and Dustin I hope does whatever he wants to do and certainly deserves the opportunity to do whatever they want to do. If you have a job and you don’t love it, you’re going to work. I don’t want to work. I want to do something that I did that’s fun. That makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something.

“Makes me feel like I’ve helped somebody out. Contributed to mankind in some way. Maybe moved a pebble or rock or a boulder, it doesn’t matter. I moved it. And that’s when you accomplish things, man.”

Jake “The Snake” continues to work for AEW. He currently manages Lance Archer.

Trish Stratus Still Open To Wrestling Sasha Banks

0

Trish Stratus says she’s willing to step in the ring against Sasha Banks, under the right circumstances.

Stratus will be on hand for this weekend’s Road to WrestleMania live events from Canada. WWE will be in Kichener on Saturday and Toronto on Sunday. The 7-time WWE Women’s Champion spoke with ET Canada this week to promote the the live events shows, as well as WrestleMania 38.

During her conversation with Shakiel Mahjouri, Stratus commented on Lita’s recent match at Elimination Chamber, as well as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin’s upcoming appearance on the KO Show next Saturday.

Stratus has been discussing a ‘dream match’ against Sasha Banks for several years. The trailblazing Attitude Era star maintains that she’s not scared of The Boss and knows this is a match fans want to see.

“I’ve heard that I’m running from her, which is absolutely untrue,” she said. “At one point, she had done this promo saying that I wasn’t ready. I posted a photo of my six-pack and said, ‘I am ready, girl.’ These little moments. Her and I had, maybe, a five-minute moment in the 2018 Royal Rumble and, to this day, people say that’s the match they want to see.”

Sasha Banks and Trish Stratus

She continued, “Sometimes you just have this energy that is palpable. It’s like when Lita and I first faced off. People felt that. When The Rock and Austin faced off, they felt that. When Sasha and I faced off, I felt it too. It was a good moment. Will we follow up on it? If there is an opportunity, perhaps. Did I wish this was a SmackDown tour? Yes, I did.”

Ric Flair Says AJ Styles is Superior to Bryan Danielson in Every Way

0

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair is back with another ‘hot take’ that’s sure to get wrestling fans talking.

On the latest episode of his Wooooo Nation Uncensored podcast, Flair and co-host Mark Madden discussed the new WWE Evil series on Peacock. The show focuses on the greatest villains in WWE history, but Flair’s conversation with Madden also covered some of the sport’s best babyfaces

Flair praised AJ Styles, who he’s worked with in TNA/Impact and WWE. Flair said Styles is a versatile performer who is likable on and off screen.

“AJ is one of the greatest babyfaces of all time,” said Flair. “When he wants to be, he can be soft and mellow, which he really is in real life. He’s a very humble guy. He’s very likable. He can do anything.”

The conversation shifted to Bryan Danielson, who now wrestles for AEW. Flair said Danielson is “very good,” but he is not in the same league as AJ Styles.

Flair wasn’t just talking about Styles being a better babyface than Danielson. In fact, he said Styles superior in every way.

“Bryan Danielson is very good, but he’s not AJ Styles,” Flair said. “C’mon.. It’s a big stretch to say Danielson is in any way better than AJ Styles.”

Listen to the latest episode of Ric Flair’s Wooooo Uncensored Podcast:

Author’s Opinion: Bryan Danielson and AJ Styles are regarded as two of the greatest pro wrestlers of this generation. There are many metrics one could use to evaluate a modern pro wrestler: In-ring work-rate, promos, memorable moments, career longevity, and many more. You could make a case that Styles it he superior wrestler, or vice versa. To say that Styles is better than Danielson “in every way” is quite a stretch.
