Kenny Omega On Post-Wrestling Career: “I’m Always Thinking About It”

0

Kenny Omega knows that being an in-ring competitor doesn’t last forever.

Omega has put on a slew of classic matches but he has not gone unscathed. “The Best Bout Machine” is currently out of action as he is awaiting hernia surgery. Omega revealed he can actually work through the hernia issue but didn’t want to risk aggravating the injury.

Kenny Omega Talks Life After Wrestling

Kenny Omega appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio and admitted he constantly ponders what the future might hold once his in-ring run is up.

“I’m always thinking about it, especially now because you see how fragile everything is and how it could end. I don’t necessarily mean from a personal standpoint. I could be injured, and it’s over, or one of the procedures could go wrong.

“They have to give me the bad news, ‘you’ll never be the same, and you can’t be the person you want to be in the ring,’ or, we wake up tomorrow, and everything digital has been hacked, and there’s an alien life form, and there is no way for material to get out there. It could happen; who knows. It could all end, go out of our control; sorry guys, AEW isn’t a thing, all wrestling isn’t a thing, what is that I do?”

Kenny is an EVP of AEW and one of the promotion’s founding members. His contract with AEW will expire in Feb. 2023.

Omega’s legacy is pretty much sealed at this point. His popularity exploded thanks to his work in NJPW. While his AEW run got off to a slow start, he became the true “Best Bout Machine” fans were hoping for during his AEW World Heavyweight Title reign.

Dax Harwood: No One Fought Harder For The Revival Than Randy Orton

0

Dax Harwood says no one championed The Revival harder in WWE than Randy Orton.

Throughout the WWE run of Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, reports surfaced claiming that Orton consistently pushed to work with the team and he got his wish. While Harwood and Wheeler were three-time WWE Tag Team Champions, five if you include NXT, the team’s booking was called into question.

The Revival was used as fodder for DX and Scott Hall at WWE Raw 25 and were involved in a widely panned segment where The Usos put “Ucey Hot” in their gear.

Eventually, Harwood and Wheeler decided not to re-sign with WWE and made the jump to AEW as FTR.

Randy Orton Was A Revival Guy

During a chat with Renee Paquette on The Sessions, Dax Harwood talked about how supportive Randy Orton was of The Revival (h/t ewrestlingnews.com).

“There was no one else in WWE who fought harder for us than Randy, maybe Roman as a close second. Randy fought super hard for us, the whole FTRKO thing wasn’t supposed to be a thing but it worked and we worked together.

“We worked a few house shows together and he was so impressed with myself and [Cash], [Cash] would call stuff in the ring and we got along on the tour buses and stuff and it was just easy.

“I think he’s a wrestling fan, even though he didn’t grow up a wrestling fan, he’s a wrestling fan and he sees that we’re huge wrestling fans so we kind of bonded over that and asked questions about his dad.

“He saw how hard we worked and he loved that and it’s so weird because of who he is and what he is and who we are and what we are, you would think we’re polar opposites and maybe we are, but it made for a great friendship.”

Dax certainly shares better memories with Randy Orton than Shawn Michaels. Harwood told Renee that “HBK” betrayed his trust by making fun of him over his depression in front of Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, X-Pac, Scott Hall, and Triple H.

Ric Flair Reveals What He Told Cody Rhodes After AEW Departure

0

Ric Flair gave Cody Rhodes a piece of advice once news broke that he parted ways with AEW.

Cody is one of the founding members of AEW. His “us against them” mentality, opposing WWE, led many to believe that he was an AEW-lifer. Of course, things can change in a short period of time and now many are expecting the son of the late Dusty Rhodes to go back “home.”

Ric Flair’s Advice To Cody

During an episode of his Wooooo Nation Uncensored, Ric Flair detailed the message he sent Cody Rhodes upon finding out he was done with AEW.

“I don’t have a guess. I just wish him the best of luck and to always hold his head high and remember who he is. You know, I just think that when he left I’m not sure if you call it good or bad terms. I guess he left — there were some issues over the, you know of course the trademark issues and stuff like that, which there always will be.

“But he left, then went out and made it on his own, and then he and Tony hooked up. I don’t know. I can’t — without giving you false information, I don’t know why he left. I could find out. I heard back from him, we texted each other and I just said, ‘Be who you are, don’t take any sh*t from anybody,’ that’s what I told him [laughs].”

As mentioned, many expect Cody to make his way back to WWE. The company recently dropped several hints during an episode of Monday Night Raw.

SEScoops will keep you posted on what Cody’s next move will be. Keep it locked on the homepage for the latest developments.

Shane Strickland Reportedly Signing With AEW

0

AEW is bringing in another free agent. Former WWE Superstar Shane “Swerve” Strickland is expected to ink a deal with the promotion.

Fightful Select reported on Wednesday the former NXT North American Champion expected to sign the contract. He’s expected to start with AEW in early March, which is coincidentally when AEW Revolution takes place.

AEW has been interested in signing Shane Strickland since the company was formed in 2019. He wound up going to WWE/NXT instead, but things have come full circle. He began negotiating with AEW shortly after his 90-day non-compete ended.

Aside from him being a world class pro wrestler, people in AEW see Strickland as having ‘crossover’ potential that could see him getting involved with television and movie projects.

Swerve’s Road to AEW

Last November, Strickland and the rest of Hit Row (Top Dolla, B-Fab and Ashante “Thee” Adonis) were among the names to be let go just six weeks after the group was called up to the main roster as part of the 2021 WWE Draft.

They formed in NXT and quickly got over as a top act. Strickland won the North American Title from Bronson Reed (JONAH) where he held it for over 100 days before losing it to Carmelo Hayes.

Strickland will be a busy man over the next few months as he’s booked for Thursday’s Terminus event as well as an upcoming DEFY match against prodigy Nick Wayne, and several matches during WrestleMania weekend.

Jay White Comments On Turning Against The Guerrillas of Destiny At No Surrender

0

At Impact Wrestling’s No Surrender PPV over the weekend, Jay White and Chris Bey turned on the Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) and helped The Good Brothers retain the Impact Tag Team Championships. Impact Wrestling recently posted a backstage interview with Jay White, Karl Anderson, Doc Gallows, and Chris Bey.

“I said that I was going to create the best version of Bullet Club across New Japan Pro Wrestling, AEW, and Impact. I also said that the best tag team in the history of Bullet Club was going to walk away the Impact tag team champions and I was right,” White said during the interview.

“Listen, there ain’t no Bullet Club if the Machine Gun and the Big LG ain’t in it,” Anderson then said. “This right here, like I said since Day 1, since May 3rd of 2013, Bullet Club is 4-life.”

“There was no better place for the Bullet Club to reunite and become one again than here in New Orleans, Louisiana,” Gallows added.

The 4 then gave each other the 2 sweet hand signal, but White said there would be no more throwing the hand signal low as the group had been doing recently.

Following the angle in Impact Wrestling, there was also some tension teased between El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori on a recent NJPW card. The two had a bit of a disagreement regarding the tag match they were in. Jado also expressed to the commentary team that he had no idea White was going to do what he did. Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa will be back in Japan next month for the New Japan Cup. Jay White will not be back in Japan for the tournament, however.

Renee Paquette Unsure If She’ll Return To Wrestling

0

Renee Paquette doesn’t know if her future will involve a return to the wrestling business.

Paquette had served as a host for WWE beginning in 2012. She made history by becoming the first female regular on commentary for Monday Night Raw. Paquette ended her WWE run in 2020.

Renee Paquette Talks Future

Reports surfaced throughout Renee Paquette’s run that there was interest in her from major sports networks such as ESPN. Many believed it would only be a matter of time before she was out of the industry for good.

Post-WWE, Paquette works with the NHL Network and SiriusXM. During an interview with SportsKeeda.com, Paquette admitted that she misses the wrestling industry.

“So, I’ve been really busy, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not open to the opportunity of working with another wrestling company. It just depends on what the situation was, who it was; you know, I love wrestling. It’s one of those things that I always want to be around in; I miss it. I really do miss it. I get to go to the shows with Jon sometimes, and it really makes me miss it. Just like being around the ring and being around all the wrestlers, it definitely kind of strikes that chord with me.”

She went on to say that a return to the business isn’t a lock, however.

“I honestly don’t know. I feel like that is a question that came up (return to wrestling); you know, I’ve been gone from the WWE for about a year and a half now. In that time, you know, I’ve had a baby, I’ve moved. There is so much going on that I’m busy with the podcast. I’ve got a Sirius XM show as well, working with the NHL network.”

Tony Schiavone Discusses Cody Rhodes Leaving AEW

0

Tony Schiavone is sharing his reaction to Cody Rhodes leaving AEW.

Schiavone’s relationship with the Rhodes family goes back to the 1980’s. He’s very close to their family and considers Cody and Brandi to be dear friends.

On the latest episode of his What Happened When podcast with Conrad Thompson, Schiavone opened up about the Cody Rhodes situation.

Aside from Cody being a driving force behind AEW’s formation, Cody is also the man responsible for introducing Schiavone to AEW President Tony Khan.

“Cody Rhodes, to me, was one of the faces of AEW,” said Schiavone. “Cody was the one who got me in touch with Tony Khan, and that’s why I signed,” he said.

“Of course, I’m very close to the family. We took many bus rides together to Jacksonville. I consider him and Brandi friends. I think we’re a better organization today because of them.”

It’s Wrestling. It Happens.

– Tony Schiavone on Cody Rhodes’ AEW Departure

Tony Schiavone wishes Cody and Brandi Rhodes the best and is grateful for everything they’ve done for him and for AEW.

Schiavone has seen it all since he started with Jim Crocket Promotions in 1983. That said, Cody Rhodes was an integral part of AEW and his departure is nothing short of shocking.

“But, after you get over the shock of it, you kind of think, ‘You know what? It’s wrestling. It happens. This is the first one that’s left our company, but it’s one of our biggest names that left the company, so that’s why it’s the biggest shock.”

Bryan Danielson On Why He Wants To Team With Jon Moxley

0

Bryan Danielson was a guest recently on Throwing Down with Renee Paquette and Meisha Tate. Paquette just so happens to be the spouse of Jon Moxley, who Danielson has asked to team with him in AEW. Right off the bat, Paquette asked Danielson why he wanted to team with her husband so badly.

“Because these kids today… these kids need to learn how to properly wrestle,” Danielson responded to Paquette.

“Look, AEW is great, it’s not perfect in the way that I would like it to be and I’m sure in the way that Jon would like it to be. There’s a little bit too much fooling around.”

“Jon and I, we don’t wrestle the same stye but we wrestle with the same sort of seriousness. That’s what I think we bring to the table and teaching that to the younger generation.”

Danielson then continued to talk about some of the younger wrestlers in AEW. He specifically mentioned TNT Champion, Sammy Guevara.

“He has this vlog, which I didn’t even understand what a vlog was, it sounds like something to do with poop. He started trying to get me on his vlog…”

“He focuses so much on his vlog and so much on all this other stuff as opposed to just focusing on beating the crap out of somebody, which me and your husband do quite well.”

“Jon Moxley is more of like a brutalist style of violence where I’m more like the poet laureate of violence,” Danielson continued.

Jake Roberts Provides Health Update

0

Jake “the Snake” Roberts says he no longer requires the use of an oxygen tank. Roberts gave a health update recently on his podcast along with Diamond Dallas Page.

“Genetics being what they are, my mother had two lung diseases that she passed on to me. There’s no cure for either one of them,” Roberts said.

“The last thing I should ever do is smoke a cigarette, and yet I’ve been smoking since I was 17, to the point that I have COPD and a little emphysema tossed in,” he continued.

Roberts noted that his conditions left him vulnerable to COVID-19. He got full vaccinated as quickly as he could, however. Roberts also recently recovered after having contracted the virus.

“Today, I feel great. I don’t have to use any oxygen at all. I do have to use it on the airplanes when they pressurize and go up high, but it’s something that can be dealt with. I can still live a great life.”

Roberts has been back to accompanying Lance Archer to the ring for his matches. He continued to say that while he’ll never be able to run a marathon (and never was able to in the first place), he’s still got everything he needs to have a great life.

Hit Row Members Reuniting Without Shane “Swerve” Strickland

0

Members of the Hit Row faction will be reuniting during WrestleMania weekend.

Hit Row was a popular group in NXT last year. The group was comprised of Isiah “Swerve” Scott, Top Dolla, Ashante Thee Adonis and B-Fab. Despite their initial popularity, the group was dismantled and ultimately released entirely by WWE.

Shane Strickland (formerly Isiah Scott) is back taking solo independent bookings. The remaining members are headed to WrestleMania weekend to appear together for Game Changer Wrestling.

Now known as HitMakerZ, AJ Francis (Top Dolla), Tehuti Miles (Ashante Thee Adonis) and Briana Brandi (B-Fab) have been announced for GCW’s For The Fulture event on Friday, April 1st from Dallas, TX.

If you’ll be in the Dallas area for WrestleMania weekend, GCW For The Culture tickets are now available at Eventbrite.com.

Shane Strickland Moves On from Hit Row

Shane “Swerve” Strickland is conspicuously absent from this reunion. The Beyonce to Hit Row’s Destiny Child says he’s focused on his solo career right now.

Swerve did a virtual autograph signing for K&S Wrestle Fest earlier this week and commented on Hit Row’s future. He had a fun time with the group, but he’s moving on to greater things.

“The group going to another promotion together is always an option, but right now I’m focused on myself and what I have to do,” he said. “I’m at an older age. My persona with the pro wrestling business and being on screen is always maturing.”

He had fun with Hit Row and enjoyed feels they made history in NXT. However, “I’m maturing and moving on to something greater.”

Goldberg Has a Unique Outlook on Other Wrestlers Using the Spear

0

WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg has warmed up to the idea of other wrestlers using the spear attack during matches.

Goldberg just competed at WWE Elimination Chamber, where he came up short against Universal Champion Roman Reigns. This was the final match Goldberg’s WWE contract.

At 55 years old, Goldberg needs to take special care of his body to continue performing at a high level. He recently paid a visit to Dr. Beau Hightower, renowned Chiropractor and strength and conditioning specialist.

Hightower has a popular YouTube channel that shows him treating celebrities and athletes. Goldberg’s visit was the subject of his latest video and of course they talked wrestling while Bill got worked on.

Interestingly, Goldberg says he used to hate seeing other wrestlers use the spear, which has been one of his signature moves since the late 1990’s. We’ve seen countless WWE Superstars utilize the move since then, most notably Roman Reigns, Edge and Bobby Lashley.

Roman Reigns Spear

Goldberg’s Spear

According to Goldberg, you can use the spear.. if he likes you.

“About 15 to 20 superstars at WWE use it, and I used to hate it, but now I like it,” Goldberg said about the spear. “I like it because you see them do it, and then you see the master do it. And there’s a huge difference.”

He continued, “… and if I like you, I’ll let you live through it. If I don’t like you, I’ll put my head right in the middle of your chest and you’ll be in the hospital.”

Shelton Benjamin Had A Blast During Mama Benjamin Storyline

0

Shelton Benjamin wasn’t nearly as down about the Mama Benjamin storyline as others were.

After being drafted to Monday Night Raw in 2004, Shelton found himself out of The World’s Greatest Tag Team and he was pushed as a singles star. Shelton picked up big wins over the likes of Triple H and Chris Jericho. With the Jericho win, Benjamin captured the Intercontinental Championship.

After losing the IC gold, many expected Shelton to move onto the main event scene. Instead, he fell down the card to the point where he looked more like an enhancement talent rather than a midcarder.

Enter Mama Benjamin

WWE attempted to spice things up by introducing a manager for Shelton, which was his kayfabe mother. While most panned the idea, Shelton Benjamin told Ryan Satin on the Out of Character podcast that he enjoyed the storyline (h/t Fightful).

“The Mama Benjamin stuff gets such a bad rap and what people don’t realize, I was having the time of my life. We were doing these funny skits every week, we were working with Vince McMahon all the time. I remember the one skit where she walked in on him with his pants down. It was hard to contain laughter just thinking back to those times because it was so much fun and so silly. I played a mama’s boy and my mom (Thea R. Vidale) did a tremendous job of playing my mom, she was a scene-stealer. For me, it was a lot of fun.”

WWE was often hot and cold with Shelton throughout his first run with the company. There were numerous start and stop pushes with Benjamin until he was released back in April 2010. In his second run with WWE, Shelton is mostly used to put over other talent.

The Rock Praises Montez Ford, Thinks He’ll Be World Champion In WWE

0

The Rock has given Montez Ford the ultimate praise.

Ford is a member of The Street Profits along with Angelo Dawkins. Many have high hopes for Ford as a singles star. He has displayed high-flying ability, charisma, and solid selling ability.

The Rock Thinks Sky’s The Limit For Montez Ford

Montez Ford was a guest on Ryan Satin’s Out of Character podcast. During the show, Ford discussed how crucial The Rock was on his journey to becoming a pro wrestler.

The Rock paid it forward on his Instagram account and expressed his belief that Ford is well on his way to holding a top title in WWE.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CaSuyjwPRDx

“Just taking a moment to tell this man Montez Ford how much I appreciate his kind and beautiful word. We’ve never shared the ring together, but pro wrestlers all have a very special bond.

“Pro wrestling is a very unique, intense, and wild culture that’s not for everybody. When you love the wrestling business, you become very respectful about the wrestling business.

“And when you’re respectful about the wrestling business, you become PASSIONATE about the wrestling business. It seeps deep into your DNA.

“Fans can always sense who’s passionate inside that squared circle ~ and who’s not. This man is passionate. We share that DNA.

“(And he flys like the Superfly).

“Keep kicking ass brother and give my love to your family. And when you become world champion one day, I’ll be right there rooting ya on.”

That is high praise from one of the biggest, if not the biggest star to ever grace the wrestling industry. On the surface, Ford is certainly garnering the experience to eventually mix it up with WWE’s elite in a more prominent role.

Ford recently detailed to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT how beneficial it has been to share the ring with the likes of Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio.

Nixon Newell Misses Wrestling, Eager To Work With AEW-Impact Talent

0

Former WWE star Nixon Newell (Tegan Nox) has provided a health update as she prepares to return to the ring.

Newell was called up to the main roster on Jul. 9, 2021, along with Shotzi Blackheart. She was only given a few opportunities to compete before wrestling her final SmackDown match on August 20th of last year.

She suffered three ACL tears in her WWE career that sidelined her significantly. It’s unclear if Newell’s injuries during her run resulted in the company’s decision to release her on Nov. 18, 2021.

During an interview with Chris Denker, Nixon Newell admitted that she is the happiest she’s been since getting released from WWE. While she is ready to compete again, she is really enjoying the time off being a traveling pro wrestler.

“I miss wrestling,” said Newell. “I really miss being in front of the fans. I miss building a bond with the fans throwing myself around, but it’s been nice to give my body a little bit of time off after wrestling for ten years, almost non-stop, even when I was in rehab,” said Newell.

She continued, “I was still working every day doing hard stuff, so for ten years, my body just being like I f*cking hate you, you stop listening to me. The last 90 days, I think I’ve been in the ring three times, and it’s been great, but my body is needed to relax recharge like build yourself up, and it’s been bloody lovely, but I do miss wrestling, and I’m hoping I can figure something out.” She also shared that her knee is healed and doesn’t need a knee brace.

image

Where Does Newell Want to Wrestle?

As a free agent, Newell has an opportunity to sign or wrestle with any wrestling promotion. While she isn’t sure where she’ll wrestle, Newell named several wrestlers from All Elite Wrestling and Impact Wrestling.

“…There’s so many people from so many different companies that I want to work with. I’d like to work with Ruby Soho again. We’ve done some stuff on the indies and Chikara, which was so much fun. She’s one of my favorite people to be in the ring with,” said Newell.

She continued, “I’d like to actually have time with Deonna to longer than three minutes, including entrances. I’d like to do stuff with her, Chelsea Green, Mickie James, Serena Deeb, Taylor Wilde. I have such a huge list of people I want to work with from not just Impact or AEW, but worldwide.”

Her 90 days non-compete clause ended on Feb. 18. Stay tuned to see if Nixon Newell shows up in AEW, Impact, or elsewhere.

Mickie James Reveals Who Talked Her Into Signing With Impact Wrestling

0

Mickie James has one person to thank for convincing her to sign with Impact Wrestling.

Mickie was briefly featured on Impact Wrestling when the company was called “TNA Wrestling” from 2002-2003. She then signed with WWE where she gained notoriety before being released in 2010.

Kurt Angle Brings Mickie James Back To Impact

During an appearance on The Kurt Angle Show, Mickie James revealed that she wasn’t too keen on returning to Impact in 2010 before Kurt Angle kept ringing her phone.

“You know, there would probably be no Hardcore Country if it wasn’t for Kurt Angle. We go back to when I first came to Impact, well TNA at the time, and I wasn’t gonna come and I didn’t — remember Dixie had you call me multiple times to talk me into coming to Impact Wrestling at the time.

“It was pretty incredible and this is all thanks to Kurt Angle, right? Because he talked me into coming over there when I was like, ‘I’m so sad about wrestling. I don’t wanna wrestle anymore, I can’t believe it.’ So, I really appreciate that, Kurt. I really do.”

Mickie ended up returning to Impact Wrestling in 2010 and was able to bring the “Hardcore Country” character to life. Mickie returned to WWE in 2016 and was once again released by the organization in 2021.

As of late, Mickie has become a red hot name in the world of wrestling. Mickie walked into the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match with her Impact theme and holding the Knockouts Championship.

Dax Harwood Recalls The Time Shawn Michaels Betrayed His Trust

0

Dax Harwood of FTR has reflected on the time Shawn Michaels went from a mentor to a bully.

At WWE Raw 25 back in 2018, Harwood teamed with Cash Wheeler and they were on the receiving end of a beating inside the ring at the hands of DX and Scott Hall. The segment was done for a nostalgic moment and did no favors for FTR, who were called “The Revival” at the time.

Dax Harwood Blindsided

During an appearance on The Sessions with Renee Paquette, Harwood recalled having a conversation with “HBK” about dealing with a bicep injury and depression. At first, Michaels sounded relatable.

“I talked to Shawn and that was the first time we talked since the PC days and I told him, I was like, ‘Man, this happened, tore my bicep, I went through a really dark period. I thought I was gonna quit but thankfully, just like I’ve told you, I have the greatest wife in the world and she has supported me and she’s brought me out of this funk. She brought me out of a dark place and I’m here now and I’m super happy.’

“He said, ‘I was the same way. I was in this very dark spot that my wife, she’s beautiful, she pulled me out of this dark spot too.’ I was like, ‘Ah, that’s so awesome.’ He said, ‘Look, you and your partner are way too talented to be doing what you’re doing tonight. You’re way too talented to stay at this point. Just keep your nose to the ground and keep grinding and you’re gonna get over it.'”

Dax Harwood was appreciative of Michaels’ advice but what happened next changed everything.

“I was like, ‘Oh man, Shawn thank you so much.’ So, we had this bonding moment and then we got in front of his friends. X-Pac and Billy and Road Dogg and Scott, and as soon as we got in front of his friends, he started making fun of me and making fun of my situation and what happened with my bicep.

“I was like, ‘Man, I just poured my heart out to you, and as soon as we get in front of your friends, cause we’re going over what — they’re gonna beat the sh*t out of us, you decide to take that stuff and make fun of it.’

“I’ve never ever forgotten it and as soon as we were done with the business at Raw one person said, ‘Thank you’ to us and that was Sean Waltman. Everyone else was so cold to us and treated us like we were just the sh*t on the bottom of their shoes except for Sean Waltman.”

Shawn Michaels has long had the reputation of being a trouble maker during the WWE’s New Generation Era. There have been several reports over the years claiming that Michaels tried to play the political game even after his first retirement during the Attitude Era in order for Triple H to maintain a top spot in the company.

While “HBK” became a born-again Christian in 2002, stories have surfaced claiming that he still had a knack for rubbing people the wrong way.

Reports claimed that back in 2007 when WWE was in Iraq for Tribute to the Troops, Randy Orton stood up for Umaga as Shawn Michaels was allegedly berating him for wearing attire that had the same color as HHH’s gear.

Pat McAfee: “I Guess Cody Rhodes is Coming to WWE. Who Cares?”

0

WWE broadcaster Pat McAfee has commented on the possibility of Cody Rhodes returning to the company.

After his shocking departure from All Elite Wrestling, all signs are pointing to Cody Rhodes returning to WWE in the short-term future. In fact, WWE began teasing Cody’s arrival on this week’s Monday Night Raw.

On Tuesday’s edition of The Pat McAfee Show, the SmackDown color commentator addressed the buzz about Cody’s future. He also addressed the Wednesday Night Wars and took a few digs at AEW in the process.

“I guess Cody Rhodes is coming to WWE,” said McAfee. “I guess. Who cares, dude, you know? Him and his little friends, they started something, it was terrible, we actually went head-to-head with them on Wednesdays, we beat ’em a couple different times, who cares? The hell with Cody Rhodes!”

McAfee must have realized there’s money to be made with Cody Rhodes in WWE, because he pivoted his position pretty quickly.

Taking on a more positive outlook, McAfee said Cody is a “massive name” and is excited by the prospect of working together.

“Now people are going to think I’m starting an angle with Cody Rhodes,” he joked. “I’m actually pretty pumped if Cody is coming back. [He’s] obviously a massive name in Sports Entertainment. If he’s coming to SmackDown, I’m excited by it.”

AJ Styles Signs New Multi-Year Deal With WWE

0

AJ Styles has signed a phenomenal new contract with WWE. The former WWE Champion has re-upped for 3 more years and will make “well over” $3 million per year, per Fightful. This makes him one of the highest-paid pro wrestlers in the world.

Styles was due to become a free agent this summer. However, WWE never let things get to that point. They did not want a bidding war to unfold and made Styles an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Despite mass layoffs in 2021 due to budget cuts, WWE has not hesitated to throw big money at stars like Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to keep them on board. As the wrestling war heats up with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), AJ Styles is somebody you do not want “seeing what’s out there.”

AJ Styles had a Hall of Fame caliber career before joining WWE in January 2016. He could have retired as an all-time great after his runs in Ring of Honor, Impact Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Luckily for us, he was just getting warmed up. He’s held the WWE Championship twice, the United States title 3 times, the IC title and the Raw tag titles (with Omos).

Styles is not currently booked for WrestleMania 38, but he’s stated in multiple interviews that he wants to wrestle Edge at WWE’s biggest show of the year. He told Ariel Helwani earlier this month:

“There was that time when I thought there would never be an opportunity to wrestle him, and now, it’s here. The time is limited in which we can pull it off. Whether he or I retire first, who knows, but I want to get that match. I desperately want to get that match. I think it’s the one that most fans would enjoy.”

Update On WWE Madison Square Garden Ticket Sales

0

On last night’s edition of WWE RAW, Paul Heyman noted that Brock Lesnar will have to defend his WWE Championship on March 5th inside Madison Square Garden. WWE has been having difficulty selling tickets to the event, as they did for the show they held from the venue on December 26th.

As of this writing, WWE has sold 60 less tickets for the show on March 5th than they did for the show on December 26th. According to @WrestleTix, the show has sold 5,316 tickets thus far.

The final tally for the December 26th show from Madison Square Garden had 5,376 tickets sold.

According to attendance figures from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, up until 2019, WWE averaged 13,000 to 14,000 for its annual holiday show in Madison Square Garden. The 2019 show dipped to 10,795, however. Due to the pandemic, no show was held in 2020. The 2021 holiday show was hurt by the wave of the omicron variant and only sold a little over 5300 tickets.

WWE held an episode of Smackdown from Madison Square Garden on September 10th, 2021 that drew 13,323 paid fans, however.

WWE currently has Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley, Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey advertised for the March 5th show. On last night’s RAW, Paul Heyman noted that if Bobby Lashley is unable to compete at MSG, a suitable replacement will be found for Brock’s opponent.

Should The Undertaker be the Only WWE HOF Inductee This Year?

0

The Undertaker will take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 38 weekend.

Bully Ray, a Hall of Famer himself, feels that Taker is such a significant figure in WWE history that he should be the only person inducted this year.

“That’s how big of a deal The Undertaker being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame is. It’s like, how do you pick just one person to induct him? There are so many people that can do a phenomenal job of inducting him,” said Bully Ray on Busted Open Radio.

“Why not bring in everybody up there? I am a fan of the Hall of Fame induction behind the night after SmackDown. As a fan, you’re getting a lot of value, you’re getting value for your buck.”

WWE Hall of Fame Solo Inductions

Andre The Giant WWE Hall of Fame Plaque

A solo induction would be a grand gesture fitting of The Undertaker’s incomparable legacy. It seems unlikely WWE will go that route this year, but there is precedent for it happening.

The WWE Hall of Fame was inducted in 1993. Andre The Giant was the sole inductee that year. He was inducted posthumously after passing away January 27th, 1993.

The Undertaker Joining the WWE Hall of Fame

The 2022 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place Friday, April 1st. The ceremony will stream on Peacock at 10pm (EST) following WWE SmackDown.

The Undertaker commented on his forthcoming induction on social media. He thanked everyone for reaching out to congratulate him.

Eric Bischoff Says He’s Not Surprised Cody Rhodes Left AEW

0

Eric Bischoff is not shocked about Cody Rhodes’ decision to leave All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

During the latest episode of his 83 Weeks podcast with Conrad Thompson, Bischoff divulged that he keeps in touch with Cody via texting. Cody’s AEW departure sent shockwaves throughout the industry, but Bischoff says he was more surprised about Cody leaving WWE back in 2016.

“I’m not surprised – not nearly as surprised as everybody else is, and it’s not because I have any inside information or speak to Cody,” he began. “Cody and I text back and forth every couple of months maybe,” Bischoff said. “Look, I was more surprised that Cody left WWE.”

Bischoff continued by laying out why jumping back to WWE makes total sense for someone in Cody Rhodes’ position.

“Let’s think about that for a minute. You’re 30 years old and on the biggest stage in the world in your particular industry. Yeah, you might be saddled with a character or gimmick you don’t like, but guess what? You’re making damn good money that you could probably retire on in five to ten years if you’re smart. But he was willing to walk away from that because he wasn’t satisfied. It reminded me of his dad.”

You can listen to Eric Bischoff’s comments about Cody Rhodes leaving AEW in the tweet embedded below:

Bischoff also recalled speaking with Cody shortly after he left WWE. Bischoff assured Cody his father would be proud of him, since Dusty was never satisfied and always seeking something bigger.

WWE made several references to Cody Rhodes’ pending return on Monday’s Raw. The Miz referred to his surprise partner as being from a “fighting family” and also “Dashing.”

WWE Teases Cody Rhodes Return On RAW

0

Cody Rhodes is widely believed to be returning to WWE shortly. WWE dropped multiple hints recently likely meant to foreshadow his return to the company on last night’s RAW.

Before last night’s show, The Miz Tweeted out that everyone is going to be really surprised by who he brings with him to RAW. Then during Miz TV, he referred to this person as being from a “fighting family” and also as “Dashing.” Then Logan Paul came out, however.

Rhodes was at one point referred to as “Dashing” Cody Rhodes for a period during his previous WWE run.

Cody Rhodes’ old theme music in WWE was named “Smoke and Mirrors.” WWE then used the term “Smoke and Mirrors” when referring to Edge.

Cody Rhodes is a former 2x Intercontinental Champion in WWE. He also held tag team gold in the company 6x, twice with Ted DiBiase Jr., twice with Goldust, once with Drew McIntyre, and once with Hardcore Holly. Rhodes’ 257 days spent with the Intercontinental title split amongst two reigns ranks him 23rd out of 87 all-time in that category. He is also a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, ROH World Champion, and 3x TNT Champion.

Rhodes was also awarded “Worst Gimmick” from the readers of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in 2015 for his Stardust character.

Lesnar Will Defend The WWE Title At MSG On March 5th

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar kicked off the show and waved his cowboy hat to the cheering crowd. Lesnar thanked the crowd as they chanted “Suplex City!”. Paul Heyman interrupted and made his way to the entrance ramp. Heyman said he was the special counsel for the only real heavyweight champion in WWE, Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Heyman suggested that Brock Lesnar might not make it to WrestleMania as the WWE Champion. Paul stated that Lesnar has to defend the WWE Championship on March 5th at Madison Square Garden. Heyman noted that he was scheduled to face Bobby Lashley (he’s out for four months due to injury) but he will find the best replacement. Paul went on and on before Brock finally interrupted. Lesnar told Heyman he appreciates him even though he’s such a dick and announced that he will appear on SmackDown this week.

Alpha Academy Picked Up A Win

RAW Tag Team Champions Alpha Academy faced Street Profits tonight. Alpha Academy controlled the action early as RAW went to a commercial break. Ford battled back and sent Gable out of the ring when RAW returned. Montez connected with an Enziguri on Otis that knocked him to the corner. Ford lifted Otis up for a slam but the weight was too much and he fell on top of him for the pinfall victory.

Finn Balor & Tommaso Ciampa def. Roode & Ziggler

Finn Balor returned to RAW this week and teamed with Tommaso Ciampa to face Robert Roode & Dolph Ziggler. Ciampa and Ziggler will battle tomorrow night on NXT 2.0.

Dolph didn’t want to start off the match and tagged in Roode. Ciampa went to lock up with Roode but Ziggler distracted him. Roode capitalized with a Headlock and then a shoulder tackle. Ciampa popped right up and leveled Roode with a shoulder tackle of his own. Ciampa then got Roode in a Headlock in the middle of the ring.

Roode drove Ciampa to the corner and Ziggler tagged in. Dolph beat Ciampa down and taunted Balor on the ring apron. Ciampa battled back and unloaded some punches to Dolph’s face. Ciampa exploded out of the corner and connected with a Clothesline. Balor flipped onto Dirty Dawgs outside the ring and posed for the crowd as RAW went to a break.

When RAW returned, Ciampa was trapped in the ring but eventually hit a Clothesline. Balor and Roode tagged in and Finn unloaded some strikes. Roode went for a DDT but Balor countered with a Slingblade. Ziggler broke up the cover but Balor sent him out of the ring with a Clothesline. Roode hit the DDT and went for the pin but Balor kicked out at two.

Finn hit another Slingblade and tagged in Ciampa. Tommaso hit a knee to the face and went for the Fairy Tale Ending but Roode blocked it. Ciampa hit a Sunset Flip into a cover for the pinfall victory.

Logan Paul Will Team With The Miz At WrestleMania

The Miz made his way to the ring to begin the 2nd hour of RAW for an episode of Miz TV. Miz boasted about flying in a private jet and claimed that everyone in the crowd wants the success he has. The Miz turned his attention to Rey Mysterio and claimed that they weren’t much different because they both do whatever it takes to win.

Miz wondered why the crowd looks passed Rey Mysterio using his son to defeat him at Elimination Chamber. The Miz stated that the crowd cannot be trusted and he has found a new tag team partner that he relates to going into WrestleMania. Miz said that his tag partner is very “dashing” before The Mysterios interrupted.

Rey said that he is not the same as Miz and he doesn’t think there is anyone in the back that would partner up with him. Miz told Rey that he didn’t deserve to win that match at Elimination Chamber and joked that Dominik doesn’t even deserve a WWE contract.

Dominik grabbed the microphone and challenged Miz to say something else about his father. The Miz cut him off and introduced Logan Paul as his tag team partner. Logan told Rey that he’s got pool toys bigger than him and a brawl broke out. The Miz and Logan Paul stood tall and Logan planted Dominik with the Skull Crushing Finale.

Rhea Ripley def. Nikki A.S.H.

Rhea Ripley battled her former tag team partner Nikki A.S.H. in a singles match. Nikki hit a forearm to the face to start off the action. Ripley responded with a delayed vertical Suplex and Nikki rolled out of the ring. Rhea chased Nikki down and bounced her face off the announce table. Back in the ring, Rhea connected with the Riptide for the pinfall victory.

Damian Priest Retained The US Title, Will Defend Against Finn Balor Next Week

Damian Priest defended the United States Championship tonight against Shelton Benjamin. Shelton got in some offense early but Damian quickly battled back. Shelton sent the champion to the outside and Cedric Alexander got in a cheap shot. Back in the ring, Shelton connected with an Olympic Slam and went for the cover but Damian kicked out at two.

Priest beat Benjamin down in the corner of the ring before hitting him with a roundhouse kick to the face. Cedric hopped on the ring apron for a distraction but Damian knocked him to the floor and planted Shelton with the Reckoning for the pinfall victory. Damian Priest is still the United States Champion.

After the match, Damian Priest got on the microphone and said that Shelton Benjamin is one of the few superstars who will fight him like a man. Priest noted that it is WrestleMania season and wanted a challenger. Finn Balor answered the call and said he will see Damian Priest next week.

Reggie Apologized To Dana Brooke

Reggie made his way to the ring and introduced Dana Brooke. Reggie said that he had a horrible feeling in his stomach and apologized for rolling her up at a restaurant and winning the 24/7 title after she turned down his romantic advances. Reggie called a referee to the ring and laid down on the canvas. Dana went for the cover but Reggie kicked out at two. Reggie apologized again and this time Dana Brooke got the cover for the victory. Everyone in the 24/7 Championship picture then chased the two around to end the segment.

Bianca Belair def. Doudrop

Bianca Belair cut a promo tonight and complimented every woman that was in the Elimination Chamber match. Belair said she is the EST and has been working non-stop to get to WrestleMania. Bianca vowed to take the RAW Women’s Championship from Becky Lynch.

Becky interrupted and noted that they are the only two women to have won the main event of WrestleMania and now they are wrestling each other. Lynch boasted about defeating Belair in 26 seconds at SummerSlam. The crowd booed and Lynch claimed that they all turned on her after she beat Belair, thus she now hates Belair. Doudrop’s music hit and RAW went to a break.

Bianca Belair battled Doudrop as RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was on commentary. Doudrop dominated the match early and caught Belair with a Crossbody outside the ring as Bianca was distracted with Becky. Back in the ring, Doudrop went for a Senton but Belair got out of the way. Bianca hit a standing Moonsault and tried to Suplex Doudrop but she blocked it.

Belair then connected with a Suplex as Becky was annoyed on commentary. Doudrop planted Belair with a Michinoku Driver and went for the cover but Bianca kicked out at two. Doudrop climbed to the 2nd rope but Belair caught her with a massive Powerbomb. Belair then planted Doudrop with an impressive KOD for the pinfall victory. Becky Lynch stood on the announce table and posed with the RAW Women’s Championship as Belair celebrated the victory.

Edge Laid Down A Challenge For WrestleMania

Edge came down to the ring and took a seat on a steel chair in the middle of the ring. Edge said the smell of WrestleMania is in the air and spoke about being in the crowd at WrestleMania 3. He noted how he threw caution to the wind in his first WrestleMania match and the great moments he has had at the event. Edge looked at the crowd and told them they give the energy he needs to be “phenomenal”.

Edge said that you cannot call WrestleMania “stupendous” without him. He challenged someone to step up and prove themselves by standing across the ring from him at WrestleMania. Edge closed the promo by saying “you fight me at WrestleMania, I will make you live forever. So step up boys, I’ll be waiting”.

Rollins & Owens Earned A Their Way Into The RAW Tag Title Match In Two Weeks

Rollins capitalized and hit a Suicide Dive that knocked Orton over the announce table as RAW went to a final commercial break.

When RAW returned, Owens tagged in and stomped on Orton before he could reach the corner for a tag. Riddle got the tag but Seth put a stop to his momentum with a Double Stomp for a near fall. Owens tagged in and hit Riddle with a Neckbreaker for a two count. Owens hit a Swanton and Rollins followed it up with a Frog Splash but somehow Riddle kicked out at two.

Randy Orton tagged in and delivered a Powerslam to Owens before hitting another one on Rollins Orton connected with the DDT in the ropes on Owens but Rollins escaped out of the ring. Randy went for the RKO but Owens blocked it. Owens Clotheslined Orton to the outside as Riddle tagged in. Rollins hit Orton with the Stomp as Riddle hit the Floating Bro on Owens.
