Tony Khan Confirms More Talent Acquisitions For AEW

0

AEW fans can expect more talent to appear in the coming months.

As AEW continues to grow, so does its roster. Fans clamored for the return of CM Punk and AEW delivered on the second episode of Rampage. Punk made his return to a thunderous ovation inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. Tony Khan said Punk’s debut alone paid for itself.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of Bryan Danielson, who reportedly signed with AEW. His appearance has reportedly been bumped up to the Sept. 5 All Out PPV. Khan is staying mum on the report just as he did ahead of Punk’s promotional debut.

One thing Tony Khan wasn’t shy in discussing was beefing up the AEW roster even more. Here’s what he told the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“I’m definitely going to make multiple additions over the next four to six months. I think there’ll be some activity in the near future. I can’t specify exactly what it is and I don’t think anybody would really want me to. Just like nobody would have wanted any combination of anything going into The First Dance of what it was, or how it was going to come off. But I definitely will be active and have been active signing people from day one in this company.

“Recruiting talent is key to any wrestling company. It’s key to any sports business, whether it’s the NFL or English football or wrestling. In this case of wrestling, I think we’ve built as good a roster as I believe you could build in this amount of time, with so many stars, a really really great core of people that have been here from day one, and we’ve expanded consistently. I think the additions we’ve made have been a lot of smart additions and really are very well positioned now with expanding our TV and adding a third hour. This is when I really wanted to kick into full gear so to speak.

“But the timing of it is perfect because going into All Out, which is definitely without a doubt going to be the biggest PPV event we’ve done in our history.”

All Out will feature the in-ring return of CM Punk. He’ll be going one-on-one with Darby Allin. AEW World Champion Kenny Omega will put his gold on the line against Christian Cage.

No Way Jose Claims He Pitched The Idea Of WWE 24/7 Championship

0

No Way Jose says it was he who initially pitched the idea of having a 24/7 championship in WWE.

The WWE 24/7 Championship was introduced back in May 2019. Since that time, there have been almost 150 title reigns. No Way Jose never got his hands on the title but he claims to have been the one to pitch the idea.

Here’s what he told the folks over at the Wrestling Perspective Podcast.

“Okay, I want to say that — and I don’t know how many people have claimed this, but in December of 20?? — God, when did that title come out? I might have the year wrong, but in December of 2018, I wrote to my writer, and I, word for word said, ‘What if we do a 24/7 Championship?’ I’ll pull it up right now. What if we do a 24/7 title that gives everybody something to do.

“Because I wasn’t doing sh*t and I was like, ‘they’re not going to put me in this title run, that title run, or that title run.’ They didn’t want to do hardcore, so I was like, ‘why don’t we do a 24/7?’ He straight up said, ‘no, that’s not an idea that we want at this time.’ I was like, ‘alright, whatever,’ and I just kept rolling with other ideas. I was watching Spartacus at that time, I started coming up with stuff from there. I was just watching so many different things. But I legitimately remember that. Six months later, here comes the title and I’m like, ‘oh!’ No bonus, no nothing. Like I said, I don’t even know if it was my idea. But I know six months before that, I mentioned that and then there it was. So it was what it was.”

No Way Jose has since changed his name to “No Way.” He currently competes under the Impact Wrestling promotion. He made his debut for Impact Wrestling at Slammiversary back in July.

Chelsea Green: AEW Would Benefit From Signing Female Free Agents

0

Chelsea Green believes there are some top female free agents that would bring a lot to AEW.

WWE has been on a budget cut spree this year and it’s the talent who have taken the brunt of it. Green found herself on the chopping block and has since appeared on Impact Wrestling along with her fiancé, Matt Cardona, who was also released from WWE in 2020.

There have been many other female wrestlers who received pink slips from WWE. During an interview with Wrestling Inc., Chelsea Green said AEW would be wise to scoop up some of the top female names.

“There are so many people coming in and out of Impact, the opportunities are really endless there. We could see Ruby [Soho, AKA, Riott]. We could see The IIconics. We could see any of the females being released from WWE come through the Impact doors at any moment, and that’s pretty cool too.

“It would be a travesty if they didn’t [get signed somewhere]; AEW can totally gain from those faces. We all love to watch them. We all know them. We know they’re great workers.”

Ruby Soho has been teasing a return to the ring with a series of vignettes. As for Jessica McKay and Cassie Lee, formerly known as The IIconics in WWE, they have announced they’ll be sticking as a team. They’ll be known as IInspiration going forward.

AEW Heads To UBS Arena In Long Island On Dec. 8

0

AEW is making its way to Long Island, NY before 2021 comes to a close.

It’s clear that AEW has been looking to make waves on the east coast. On Sept. 15, the company will be airing Dynamite live from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Just one week later, they’ll be inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City for the Grand Slam edition of Dynamite.

Andrew Zarian is reporting that AEW will be making another trip to New York in December. AEW will hold Dynamite inside the UBS Arena on Dec. 8. WrestleTix notes that the setup will likely be at 14K capacity.

“Andrew Zarian broke the news last night that AEW Dynamite will be coming to the UBS Arena (home of the NY Islanders) in Elmont, NY on 12/8, a week after Raw will be there (11/29). Referencing this Weeknd concert, this is roughly a 14K capacity/set-up for wrestling (for sell out).”

It’s been an eventful year for AEW thus far. More recently, we saw the massive return of CM Punk. Punk will be making his in-ring return on Sept. 5 on the All Out PPV against Darby Allin.

Bryan Danielson has also reportedly signed with the company. While the initial report was that he’ll be making his promotional debut on Sept. 22, a new report from Bodyslam suggests that he will now be making an appearance at All Out.

Jim Ross Addresses Report He’s Stepping Down As Full-Time Announcer For AEW

0

Jim Ross has responded to rumors floating around about his role at commentary for AEW.

Reports have swirled claiming that Ross will be seen far less calling matches and instead will be doing sitdown interviews and other backstage segments. The reports note that “Good Ol’ JR” will call big matches and major events when they occur.

While the rumors have said that this was Ross’ decision, it appears JR himself didn’t get the memo.

SEScoops reached out to Jim Ross on social media, who responded to the rumors.

“It’s news to me…”

Sources tell SEScoops that they hadn’t heard of anything regarding Ross transitioning from a full-time role at commentary.

“I haven’t heard anything about this except for what stories are out there.”

Ross has been on board with AEW since 2019. He has served as the lead play-by-play commentator on Dynamite along with Tony Schiavone and Excalibur. He does not provide commentary for AEW’s new show, Rampage. As of late, we’ve seen the Rampage booth filled by Excalibur, Chris Jericho, Tazz, and Mark Henry.

Earlier this year, Ross responded to speculation regarding possible retirement on his podcast. JR made it clear that he doesn’t plan on slowing down.

“I had my 69th birthday here a while back. I don’t have any desires to slow down. I get asked this all the time, ‘When you going to retire?’ Well, I hate to answer this with a question, but retire and do what?”

Big E Says He Is Ready To Be The Face Of WWE

0

Big E has spent a lot of time grooming himself to be a top performer. Though the former NXT champion believes that he doesn’t need any more time and he is finally ready to be the face of WWE. The New Day member recently had an interview with Sports Illustrated. He first admitted that he didn’t always feel confident about himself and credited people like Daniel Bryan and Kenny Omega for helping him.

Big E explained how his hunger for a world title is different than people like John Cena or Brock Lesnar. Mr. Money In The Bank claimed that he doesn’t need another year to grow and the time for him is now:

“I have a different perspective than a Brock or a Cena, who’s trying to become a 17-time world champion. I’m trying to get one. It has a different feel, and I’m not saying those guys don’t want it, too, but this might be my only opportunity. So I’ll show up ready and make some noise. I don’t feel like I need another year to grow. The time is now.”

E then discussed the responsibility that comes with a world title. The former IC champion said that he isn’t worried about the task of being the face of the company but he is ready to face whatever comes in front of him:

“I’m not worried about this gargantuan task of being the face of the company because I’m too focused on doing my very best to be entertaining with whatever I’m given. I’m all about handling what’s right in front of me, and I feel like I can handle whatever is in front of me. I’m ready, and I’ve been ready.”

While there is no word yet on what the plans for the Money In The Bank briefcase are, previous reports have suggested that WWE may move Big E to Raw during the upcoming Draft. It would be interesting to see if E ends up cashing his contract on Bobby Lashley instead of Roman Reigns.

Goldberg Explains Why He Choked His Son At SummerSlam

0

Goldberg’s latest WWE storyline with Bobby Lashley also involved his son Gage. The young star got physical during the WWE championship match at SummerSlam PPV.

The former Universal champion recently appeared on the CarCast podcast. Talking about his SummerSlam match, he said that he was feeling “dazed and confused and continually limp” after his bout.

Speaking about Gage’s involvement at the show, Goldberg revealed that he actually choked his son at one point to stop him from smiling in the ring:

“I didn’t see shit. I was choking him. He goes, ‘Dad, when you came over and grabbed me, you were choking me.’ I was like, ‘I saw you smiling man, I had to get the smile off.’

The kid is impervious to pressure. He did four hours of homework before he went out” explained Goldberg, “And jumped in the ring with a 290-pound monster who was beating his dad up. It didn’t bother him one bit.”

The WWE championship match at the SummerSlam PPV ended when the former WCW champion couldn’t continue due to a knee injury. Though Bobby Lashley kept attacking his opponent even after the bout.

Gage came to the aid of his father but Lashley put him down too with a hurt lock. The segment ended with Goldberg checking on his son and threatening Bobby Lashley.

Cameron Grimes On What He Wants To Do After End Of Wrestling Career

0

Cameron Grimes still has a long career ahead of him but the NXT star already knows what he wants to do once his career inside the squared circle comes to an end.

The 27-year-old recently spoke to WWE El Brunch where he discussed a number of topics. When asked about his life after wrestling, the former Impact star said that he wants to stay at the performance center and help the next generation of wrestlers:

“My dream is to stay here for the rest of my life. When I can’t wrestle anymore, I want to continue to be here in the Performance Center.

I want to help train the next generation of wrestlers or anything that requires me to work here,” said Cameron Grimes, “I want to be here,”

The former PWG star also talked about his big win at the Takeover 36 event earlier this month. He defeated LA Knight to win the Million Dollar championship during the show. Though the title was later taken away from him by Ted DiBiase.

Speaking about his victory, Grimes mentioned how it was not only his first championship in WWE but his first singles win at a TakeOver event as well. He claimed that it was absolutely incredible.

John Cena Responds To Batista Declining To Share Screen With Him

0

John Cena was asked for his reaction about Batista declining to work with him or The Rock in a movie during his recent interview with Esquire. Replying to it, John said that he is sad about it because Batista is a great actor. Though later Cena claimed that he understands the sentiment behind the comment:

“I think when someone makes a statement like that, I think the important thing is to try and look at things from their perspective. Dave has worked so hard on his craft. And he is so dedicated to his characters. And really wants to put forth a body of work that gives him his own identity. I 100 percent understand that.”

John Cena doubled down on his comments about Batista saying that he cannot fault the fellow former world champion for wanting to be recognized for his work:

“He really just wants to be identified and recognized for his work. And I cannot fault him for that. I applaud him for it. To be brave enough to say something like that kind of allows him to go forth on his own and I appreciate that.”

Batista Doesn’t Want To Work With John Cena Or The Rock

Batista got wrestling fans talking earlier this year when he claimed that he doesn’t want to share the screen with fellow wrestlers turned acting stars John Cena and The Rock. The discussion kicked off when a fan suggested that these three should join forces for a movie but Batista declined the possibility. He clarified his remark explaining that he is a character actor and not just an action star:

What did you make of Batista’s comments about sharing screens with Cena or The Rock? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Braun Strowman Teases Next Move With Cryptic Tweet

0

Ever since his release from WWE on June 2nd Braun Strowman has kept the world waiting. The question so many people have been asking is ‘where will he go next?’

Earlier this week it looked as if the cat had been let out of the bag somewhat when IMPACT EVP Scott D’Amore claimed they were preparing for ‘Braun for Glory’. This is a not-so-subtle play on words for the IMPACT PPV Bound for Glory, scheduled for October 21st. While this got everybody talking, it was a tweet yesterday from the man himself that really got people wondering.

Braun Strowman, who is back to using his real name (Adam Scherr) on social media tweeted a quote that appeared to confirm D’Amore’s words.

Remember in life if you’re gonna do something make sure you make a impact. Carve your name in stone!!! #Titan.

Many believe that Braun Strowman’s tweet confirms IMPACT as his next destination and while nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet, it certainly looks as if there is some validity to the rumours.

All Signs Point Towards Braun Strowman Being Back in a Ring Soon

As already reported, all signs seem to point towards Braun Strowman signing with IMPACT wrestling. The news was further discussed by the Wrestling Observer. With Strowman’s no-compete clause up as of August 31st, it would seem as if the only real worry the wrestling world has is if IMPACT is really going to make us wait until Bound for Glory for the monster to make an appearance.

Braun Strowman has kept himself in great shape during his time away from the ring. He regularly tweets images or videos from his workouts.

His repeated use of the hashtag ‘Titan’ has people wondering if this is a hint at his new ring name. While this feels a little too gimmicky for a man like Strowman, stranger things have happened.

Wherever Strowman decides to go, and whatever his name will be, he will clearly be ready for action and won’t settle for anything less than gold.

News On Roman Reigns’ Extreme Rules Match, Brock Lesnar

0

This week’s episode of SmackDown saw Finn Balor officially being announced as the next challenger for Roman Reigns’ Universal championship.

Though this match was announced for next week’s episode of the show, leaving fans confused about the fate of the title for the upcoming Extreme Rules PPV.

PWInsider provided some updates on the situation. The site noted that the word backstage before the show was that Balor will indeed be challenging Reigns for his title next.

According to the site, the former NXT champion is expected to be the one to face the Tribal Chief in the SmackDown brand main event at the upcoming Extreme Rules PPV.

This will allow the company to save the much anticipated Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match for the Crown Jewel in October or Survivor Series in November.

Based on these reports, we can expect next week’s Universal championship match to set up a title match for the next WWE PPV with some sort of stipulation.

There is no word yet on when can we expect Brock Lesnar to be back on TV after his SummerSlam return. It’s likely that we will not see him on WWE TV before Extreme Rules on September 26.

Penta El Zero M Talks What Defeating Young Bucks At All Out Would Mean

0

Penta El Zero M and Fenix are going to All Out in search of some gold.

The Lucha Bros have earned the right to take on The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Titles. The Lucha Bros defeated Varsity Blondes and then Jurassic Express to seal their spots on the All Out PPV.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Penta El Zero M discussed what defeating Matt and Nick Jackson would mean for him and Fenix.

“Matt and Nick Jackson are our greatest rivals, and we have so much history with them in AEW and from the independent world. We are both brothers, and we all have a passion for wrestling, but there is a difference between us and The Young Bucks. It is not for show. Winning titles means everything to us. We will fight to the death for that championship.

“Our biggest motivation is that we are indebted to all our fans. This time, we will show them it is different. This time, we are better prepared. We will show why we’re the best tag team in the universe.”

The Lucha Bros have yet to capture tag team gold in AEW. Back in Oct. 2019, they took on SoCal Uncensored for the inaugural AEW World Tag Team Championships. Penta and Fenix fell short in the match, which aired live on Dynamite.

The title bout between Lucha Bros and The Young Bucks will be inside a steel cage. Time will tell if the stipulation will be able to prevent interference.

Bryan Danielson Could Debut For AEW Sooner Than You Think

0

Bryan Danielson, better known to WWE fans as Daniel Bryan, is reportedly set to make his AEW debut at the upcoming All Out PPV from Chicago on September 5. The news comes from Cassidy Haynes of BodySlam.net, who was the first to report about the leader of the Yes Movement joining Tony Khan’s promotion.

Danielson was originally scheduled to debut on the September 22 episode of Dynamite from Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City but the officials have changed their minds.

The plans were changed due to the growing internal concern over increasing COVID-19 cases in the country and the tightened restrictions around New York City.

The company is also looking to maximize the buzz around new developments on the heels of CM Punk’s recent AEW debut. It’s one of the reasons why they have pulled Bryan’s debut closer.

Bryan Danielson’s Road to AEW

The former world champion has asked for fewer dates and comparable money in his AEW contract. The ability to work in Japan and having creative input were his demands which the promotion has apparently agreed with.

Daniel Bryan has not been seen on TV since the April 30 episode of SmackDown. He lost a career vs. title match to Universal champion Roman Reigns as a way to write him off TV when his contract expired.

There is no word yet on what he will be doing at the upcoming PPV. Though one thing is confirmed that the former WWE star’s debut will make All Out one of the most memorable AEW shows till date.

Christian & Frankie Kazarian Picked Up A Win

AEW Champion Kenny Omega & Brandon Cutler faced Impact World Champion Christian Cage & Frankie Kazarian in the main event of this week’s episode of Rampage.

Before the match, the teams were interviewed by Mark Henry in split screen. Omega claimed that he would be sending the crowd home happy by hitting the One Winged Angel on Christian at All Out. Cage claimed that Omega was just scrambling around because he knows Cage has already figured out the puzzle after pinning him on the first episode of Rampage. Kazarian challenged Omega to actually get into the ring tonight and not just throw them his “bitch ass man baby stooge” Brandon Cutler.

Frankie and Cutler started off the match. Kazarian beat Cutler down in the corner and demanded for Omega to tag in. Kenny obliged and entered the ring with Frankie. Michael Nakazawa tripped up Kazarian and the AEW Champion capitalized. Omega posed and it cost him as Frankie battled back. Frankie connected with a Russian Leg Sweep and tagged in Christian Cage.

Omega cowardly scampered to the corner and Cutler tagged in. Brandon entered the ring and Christian greeted him with a punch to the face. Frankie tagged in and connected with a springboard Leg Drop. Cutler stumbled to his feet and Frankie hung him up on the top turnbuckle. Kazarian hit a kick to the face that knocked Cutler out of the ring. Nakazawa hit Frankie with a clipboard and ran away. Cage threw Nakazawa over the barricade as Omega leveled Frankie outside the ring.

Back in the ring, Omega tagged in and hit a Moonsault off the middle rope for a two count. Cage tagged in but the referee didn’t see it and Omega continued to beat Kazarian down. Christian pleaded for a tag as Cutler tagged in. Cutler danced around like a moron before dropping an elbow on Frankie’s chest. Cutler started dancing again but missed with the elbow this time.

Christian tagged in and Omega hopped off the ring apron. Cage hit Cutler with a Back Body Drop and some chops in the corner of the ring. Omega slid onto the ring apron and waited for a bit before Cage climbed up the ropes. Omega snuck up behind Cage and went for the One Winged Angel but Cage blocked it. Kenny tripped up Christian and crotched him on the ring post. Don Callis hopped on the apron for a distraction as Cutler lifted Cage up. Omega went for the V-Trigger but Cage ducked and Kenny hit Cutler. Omega retreated out of the ring and Christian hit Cutler with a Spear. Christian hit the Killswitch for the pinfall victory to close the show.

Becky Lynch Declined Bianca Belair’s Challenge

Kevin Owens joined Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary as SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch kicked off the show.

Lynch said it feels good to be back and to be champion again. Becky told the crowd that she missed them and that giving up her RAW Women’s Championship was one of the hardest things she has ever had to do it.

Becky said it felt like she gave up her identity and has worked hard to get back here. She claimed that if you thought she was dangerous before, she isn’t even more dangerous now because she isn’t just fighting for herself. Lynch said she was sorry for absolutely nothing for what went down at SummerSlam.

Former SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair interrupted and made her way to the ring. Belair told Becky that wasn’t happy with what happened at SummerSlam because she has worked too hard for it to be erased in 26 seconds. Bianca noted that she accepted Becky’s last minute challenge and wanted a title match tonight.

Zelina Vega interrupted in her ring gear and mocked Bianca for complaining. Vega told Bianca to fall to the back of the line and said she wanted a match against Becky. Carmella interrupted and claimed that she deserves a title match. Liv Morgan joined the party and made her way to the ring as well. Liv wanted a title shot and Carmella joked that the spotlight must be a nice change of scenery from catering. Bianca told everyone that the lost their minds and said she wanted her rematch. Becky simply said no and left the ring.

Bianca Belair Earned A Title Shot

Carmella, Zelina Vega, Bianca Belair, and Liv Morgan battled in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination match. Belair sent Carmella out of the ring and showed off her power with a big slam to Vega. Bianca followed it up with a standing Moonsault but got attacked from behind by Carmella.

Carmella hit a Bronco Buster on Bianca for a two count. Liv hit Vega with a Dropkick but Zelina battled back with a Sunset Bomb. Carmella rolled up Zelina from behind for a near fall and the two started arguing. Bianca leveled Vega with a Clothesline and launched Carmella out of the ring. Belair connected with the KOD on Zelina Vega for the first elimination.

Bianca rolled Liv into the ring but Carmella snuck up from behind and sent Belair into the barricade. Back in the ring, Liv Morgan planted Carmella with the ObLIVion (off ropes Flatliner) for the pinfall elimination. SmackDown went to a commercial break as Bianca Belair and Liv Morgan had a stare down in the middle of the ring.

Liv went for a roll-up but Belair kicked out and connected with a massive Clothesline. Belair followed it up with a Dropkick and taunted Liv. Morgan countered a Powerbomb into a Hurricanrana and then hit a Double Stomp for a near fall. Belair connected with a Spinebuster and went for the cover but Liv kicked out at two.

Morgan went for the ObLIVion but Belair blocked it. Bianca went for a Suplex but Liv countered into a Codebreaker for a near fall. Bianca bounced Liv’s face off the turnbuckle and followed it up with the KOD for the pinfall victory. Bianca Belair earned a shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Paul Heyman Was Locked Out Of The Tribal Chief’s Locker Room

Paul Heyman was stuck waiting outside Roman Reigns’ locker room for the first 40 minutes of the show. The Usos finally opened the door and claimed that Heyman knew Lesnar was going to show up. Heyman said he did not know that Brock was at SummerSlam. The Usos wondered why Heyman sent them to the back for Reigns’ match against Cena and Paul noted that Roman was the one that sent them backstage. The Usos wound up shutting the door in Heyman’s face as SmackDown went to a break. Roman Reigns eventually showed up and let Paul Heyman in the locker room.

Alpha Academy Attacked Cesaro

Cesaro squared off against Chad Gable tonight on SmackDown. Otis was ringside for the match. Cesaro controlled the action early but Gable battled back and applied an Armbar. Gable connected with a Northern Lights Suplex and bridged into the cover but Cesaro kicked out at two. Gable quickly made his way to the top rope and hit a Moonsault for a near fall.

Cesaro got Gable in the Swing but Otis attacked him from behind to end the match in a DQ. Alpha Academy then leveled Cesaro with a German Suplex/Clothesline combo and dragged him to the corner. Otis made his to the middle turnbuckle and hit Cesaro with a Splash.

Corbin Is Now Happy & Rich

Baron Corbin apparently won a ton of money and made his way to the ring with a top hat. Corbin noted that he had been wearing the same dirty shirt for months and thought he hit rock bottom, but now he looks incredible. Baron said he was the happiest man in the world and rolled a video package of his downfall and now return to glory. Corbin took his last $35 and left Las Vegas with a fortune.

Corbin referred to himself as the “Mayor of Jackpot City” and the crowd chanted “you deserve it!”. Baron asked the crowd to refer to him as “Happy Corbin” and asked Big E to come down to the ring. Corbin offered to buy the MITB contract from Big E and asked how much he wanted for it.

Baron offered 20k and Big E declined. Corbin upped the offer to 50k and Big once again declined. Corbin joked that Big E will probably cash in and lose anyway and Big E pointed out that happened to Baron. Corbin made a final offer of 100k and Big E shouted “hell no!”. Big E said he has some things Corbin can spend the money on and pulled out a half eaten sandwich, a pencil, and an Arkansas Razorbacks plushy. The crowd went bananas and Big E challenged Corbin to a fight. Baron exited as his new dance theme played.

Seth Rollins Had A Bizarre Message For Edge

Edge cut a backstage promo and said he defeated a generational talent like Seth Rollins but paid for it. He claimed that it was time to move on and refocus on the Universal Championship.

Seth Rollins then responded in a backstage promo of his own. Rollins stared off in the distance before saying that he only has one thing to say to Edge. Seth smiled and congratulated Edge on his victory.

Rollins said that Edge won his respect and his admiration at SummerSlam. Seth added that if he wanted to fight his way back to the Universal Championship, maybe he needs to be a little more like Edge. Rollins creepily smiled into the camera and once again thanked and congratulated Edge to end the promo.

Rick Boogs & Shinsuke Nakamura Picked Up A Win

Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs faced Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode tonight on SmackDown. Boogs and Dolph started off action and Boogs sent Ziggler across the ring. Ziggler punched Rick in the face and tagged in Roode. Roode connected with a Neckbreaker for a two count. Roode followed it up with a Suplex for another near fall.

Shinsuke tagged in and caught Roode with a Dropkick. Shinsuke followed it up with an Exploder Suplex to Dolph and a sliding German Suplex to Roode. Nakamura geared up in the corner of the ring and went for the Kinshasa but Roode countered into a cradle for a two count. Nakamura booted Roode in the face and rolled out of the ring. Dolph planted Nakamura with the Zig Zag on the floor outside the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

When SmackDown returned, Roode hit Nakamura with a Suplex for a two count. Shinsuke connected with a kick tot he face and tagged in Rick Boogs. Ziggler tagged in and walked into a massive overhead throw from Boogs. Rick followed it up with a Running Bulldog and went for the cover but Dolph kicked out at two.

Boogs went for a Pump Handle Slam but Ziggler broke it up. Dolph hit a Superkick as Nakamura booted Roode to the outside. Ziggler launched Nakamura out of the ring but turned around into a Pump Handle Slam from Boogs for the pinfall victory. Boogs and Nakamura celebrated after the match.

Sami Zayn def. Dominik

Dominik Mysterio faced Sami Zayn the returning Sami Zayn on this week’s show. Sami beat Dominik down in the corner until referee Charles Robinson broke it up. Dominik connected with a Back Body Drop and Sami retreated tp the corner. Zayn smirked and locked up with Dominik in the middle of the ring.

Sami booted Dominik in the midsection and unloaded some punches to the back of his head. Dominik booted Sami in the face and bounced off the ropes a few times before connecting with an Arm Drag. Dominik went for a kick by the ropes but Sami got out of the way. Dominik tumbled to the floor and Rey Mysterio made his way down the entrance ramp as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

When SmackDown returned, Zayn went for the Blue Thunder Bomb but Dominik escaped and connected with an Enziguri. Dominik hit the 619 and made his way to the top rope but Sami rolled away. Dominik followed him and Sami caught him with an Exploder Suplex in the corner. Zayn followed it up with the Helluva Kick for the pinfall victory. Dominik didn’t want to have a conversation with Rey after the loss.

Finn Balor Challenged Roman Reigns

Paul Heyman handed Reigns the Universal Championship backstage before the celebration. Heyman noted that this is a family celebration and Reigns told Paul that he was family. When SmackDown returned from a break, Reigns raised the Universal Championship as The Usos raised the SmackDown Tag Team Championships behind him.

Reigns stood in silence with the microphone as the crowd booed. Roman handed the microphone back to Paul Heyman and he told the crowd that the Tribal Chief has granted them permission to acknowledge him. Roman instructed Heyman to give The Usos a proper introduction as well.

Heyman joked that we have “Cena-nuff” off John and complimented Reigns on his beatdown of Cena. Finn Balor interrupted and made his way to the ring. Balor said he was going to challenge Reigns to a match at Extreme Rules but opted to challenge him to a Universal Championship match next week. Balor threw the microphone at Reigns’ chest and attacked him. The Usos beat Balor down behind before the Street Profits made the save. Balor and Street Profits beat The Usos down as Reigns retreated with Heyman to close the show.

Riddle Sends Message To Roman Reigns: You’re Not Moving Needles

0

One half of the Raw Tag Team Champions, Riddle, is well aware of recent comments made by Roman Reigns on moving the needle.

Reigns made some headlines when he discussed the return of CM Punk. Reigns told Ariel Helwani of BT Sport that Punk was never as over or as good as John Cena or The Rock.

Riddle caught wind of that interview and told Bleacher Report that Reigns himself isn’t exactly moving the needle.

“No disrespect to Roman, he seems like a swell fella, but at the same time, it’s like when people say they’re a good parent. You know what? If you were a good parent, your kids would be telling you you’re a good parent. When he’s saying ‘Acknowledge me’ or ‘I move the needle,’ no, you don’t. You’re related to The Rock. Shut up. Like, I’m not impressed, I can beat you up in a real fight. So, shut your mouth.

“You’re not moving needles. I’m the real stallion, RK-Bro is moving the merch, we’re moving the needle, and that’s it. I don’t want to say too much, I’m not trying to get in trouble. Hey, hats off to him. He’s amazing at what he does. I do like what he does, but at the same time, it’s like, get off your high horse. You’re in that spot for a reason. You’re not a bro. You’re second generation. I’m first generation.”

Riddle has been known to ruffle some feathers. He’s had backstage run-ins with Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. When it comes to Goldberg, Riddle seems to have been able to ease tension between the two. The incident with Lesnar was reportedly due to Riddle constantly calling him out in the media. It’s said that Lesnar told Riddle to stop talking about him because they’ll never share the ring.

As far as Reigns goes, he and Riddle aren’t likely to cross paths unless this year’s Survivor Series PPV has cross-promotional matches. Riddle has hit his stride on Monday Night Raw with Randy Orton as his tag team partner. Reigns is also on a roll with his “Tribal Chief” character on Friday Night SmackDown.

Jade Cargill Comes To Defense Of Red Velvet Following Moonsault Botch

0

Jade Cargill is sticking up for Red Velvet.

Velvet was seen in action on the Aug. 25 edition of AEW Dynamite. She went one-on-one with Jamie Hayter. Hayter ended up winning the match but Velvet’s performance was panned after she badly missed a standing moonsault.

Jade Cargill took to her Twitter account to respond to a fan who criticized AEW’s decision to give Red Velvet airtime over her.

“Red was/is fine. She can work. Everybody loved her when she was killing it. Shit happens. But clearly you all don’t know wrestling to not see some shit in that go round. SMH. I’m done.”

Cargill has been built up to become a dominant athlete on the AEW roster. She’s gotten off to a red hot start in AEW with a record of 10-0. AEW has also been making Red Velvet look strong with a 2021 record of 24-5. She challenged Britt Baker for the AEW Women’s title in a losing effort.

Cargill was immediately put in a prominent spot on AEW television. She was set for a tag team match with Shaq to take on Cody Rhodes and Brandi Rhodes. Brandi was pulled from the match due to her pregnancy. Cargill and Shaq ended up defeating Cody and Red Velvet.

Do you agree with Jade Cargill on the criticisms hurled at Red Velvet?

First Look At The New WWE NXT Logo

0

WWE is rebranding the image of NXT and it all starts with a new logo. Wale sent out a video on Twitter this evening of the logo, which was retweeted by the official WWE account, essentially confirming that this is it.

WWE is making various changes to the brand from its production, look, and talent. WWE is moving away from scouting independent talent. They also will be signing and pushing younger and taller wrestlers instead of doing this with older and smaller wrestlers.

Even this past Tuesday night on TV, the pace of the matches was much slower. WWE President Nick Khan confirmed the changes last week while doing an interview with Ariel Helwani.

“We’re doing a complete revamp on NXT, led by Triple H, Paul Levesque, who’s really one of the architects of the original NXT. What we found, it’s probably why we did the tryout yesterday, what we want to make sure is easy for folks who want to be WWE superstars is figuring out how to become WWE superstars. If you think of the life of an elevated athlete throughout their career, the opportunity to go play somewhere has always been easy, being able to play somewhere is not.

“In terms of an NXT rebrand, look for it in the upcoming weeks, it’s going to have a whole new look, it’s going to have a whole new feel, and we believe because of a lot of the ‘indie wrestlers’ if you will, have come through our system, and are in our system with SmackDown and RAW now. We don’t want to keep doing that same thing, we want to look elsewhere for great young talent.”

WWE taped two weeks’ worth of television this past week in order for the CWC to be revamped with the new look. WWE will show off the changes on the next live episode of NXT that airs on September 14th.

Baron Corbin Offers Explanation For His Gimmick Change

0

Baron Corbin has discussed the significant change to his character.

Corbin debuted on WWE’s main roster as “The Lone Wolf.” He then went on to become the Constable of Monday Night Raw, which saw him take on a role as an authority figure. Once that gimmick ran its course, he became “King Corbin.” Nowadays, Corbin finds himself on WWE SmackDown going through financial struggles.

During an appearance on 104.5 The Zone, Corbin explained why it was the right time to portray a character who lost all of his riches.

“Right I’m doing what now is so different than anything I’ve done. And I’m a believer that it’s like evolve or die. I don’t want to spend ten years doing the same thing. So a lot of this, when I’m getting to evolve from ‘The Lone Wolf’ to ‘The Constable’ to ‘The King’ to what I’m doing now, to me it’s this really fun evolution, and it’s just a fun ride. Because you see a lot of guys don’t want to change or they want to continue the same thing, and the fans, it’s hard to keep them invested.

“We live in such a fast-paced world now where two weeks is a long time. We used to tell stories over six months or a year, and now the audience can be a little impatient and they wanna get where we’re going quick but I think this story we’re telling right, they’re really enjoying the ride, which is different. Because normally after two or three weeks, they’re like alright, what are we doing? Where are we going? But now they’re going well I can’t wait to see what happens next. I think this is a fun story that people have been invested in.”

Corbin has gone as far as to beg the WWE Universe for a minimum of $1,000. He also asked Drew McIntyre for $100,000 and even stole Big E’s Money in the Bank briefcase before losing their match on the SummerSlam kickoff show.

As of late, Baron Corbin has been rolling out videos where he’s had a string of luck in Las Vegas. While he ended up being down to a few hundred bucks after one bad night, Corbin seems to have hit his stride again, purchasing a luxury car.

Backstage News On Britt Baker’s AEW Women’s Title Run

0

AEW is thinking long-term as far as Britt Baker’s toughest title challenger is concerned.

Baker is arguably the most popular female competitor in AEW. Baker ended the 372-day reign of Hikaru Shida at the Double or Nothing PPV event back in May. She successfully defended her gold against Nyla Rose and then Red Velvet in her hometown of Pittsburgh.

While many agreed that Britt was primed for a run with the AEW Women’s Title once she turned heel, one match pretty much sealed the deal. Back in March, Baker and Thunder Rosa headlined an episode of Dynamite in an unsanctioned Lights Out match. Rosa won the match but Britt emerged as an even bigger star in defeat.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports that AEW fans shouldn’t expect to see a rematch between the two this year. In fact, the plan is to save the match for early 2022. There’s no word on whether this will be a match for Dynamite or if it’ll take place on next year’s Revolution PPV.

Baker is scheduled to put her gold on the line against Kris Statlander at All Out on Sept. 5. As for Thunder Rosa, she recently signed a full-time deal with AEW and has 25 wins and just three losses with the promotion in 2021.

Adam Cole Cancels Twitch Stream Ahead of WWE SmackDown

0

Adam Cole has been one of the major talking points amongst pro wrestling fans over the past few weeks.

It was recently revealed that Cole had not signed a new deal with WWE. His original contract had actually come due around the NXT Great American Bash event earlier this year.

Cole apparently signed an extension with WWE, keeping him with the NXT brand for a further month just beyond WWE SummerSlam 2021 weekend. Cole’s contract extension runs through today, according to Fightful.

Cole has since removed the link to his WWE Shop page from his Twitter bio. He has also cancelled the Twitch stream that he had planned for tonight.

“Hey Chugs Army….I’m very sorry but something has come up today and I won’t be able to stream today [frown emoji]” Adam Cole wrote to fans. “I really really wish that I could. But I will keep you all posted on when the stream will be Saturday! Love you Chugs Army and thanks for understanding as always [folded hands emoji].”

Adam Cole Leaving WWE?

With Cole becoming a free agent, he is free to go wherever he chooses. Most WWE talent contracts include a non-compete clause on the back end. Cole’s extension had no such clause.

With that in mind, WWE could cause a stir by having Cole appear on SmackDown and elevate him right from the word go.

WWE has come under flak from fans for their supposed ‘no indie stars’ mentality going forward for developmental. Cole making a huge debut on SmackDown would offset some of that blowback.

There’s also the fact that FOX is not happy with CM Punk making his debut for All Elite Wrestling. WWE may still be looking to help that relationship and bring another ROH alumnus to the show.
