Sheamus Believes Cristiano Ronaldo Is Not One Of The Greatest Footballers Ever

0

There are millions who believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best football players of all time, though WWE superstar Sheamus is not one of them. The celtic warrior recently had an interview with BT Sport. Among other things, he also explained his reasoning for not considering Ronaldo among the greatest ever.

Sheamus explained that Ronaldo is definitely a world-class player but everything he does is for camera. Even if his team doesn’t win, the Portuguese star doesn’t stop:

“Don’t get me wrong, Ronaldo is probably one of the greatest players. Is he one of the greatest players ever? Absolutely not, he’s not. But he’s definitely a world-class player and one of the best there’s been in the last decade.

But even if he scores a penalty, he’s just all about the camera, mate. D’you know what I mean? Shirt off, where’s the camera? Even if he scores a penalty and they didn’t win, like, shirts off, whatever.” said Sheamus, “I’m not knocking the guy or hating him; it’s just he knows exactly what he’s doing.

The former world champion was also asked how he thinks the football player would fare in a wrestling ring. To which, he replied by saying that he wouldn’t even last 5 seconds. Sheamus claimed that football players go down when the wind blows or a blade of grass hits their shin. They wouldn’t last even 2 minutes in wrestling.

Darby Allin Doesn’t ‘Give A Sh*t’ About AEW World Title

0

Darby Allin isn’t exactly clamoring for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at the moment.

It’s clear that Darby is one of AEW’s fastest-rising stars. His popularity has grown immensely in a short period of time. In fact, some believe he is destined to one day hold the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.

Don’t tell that to Darby Allin just yet, however. During a panel at the New York Comic-Con convention, Darby pushed back on the idea of him chasing the world title right now (h/t Fightful).

“Out of all of those matches, I can say it was probably the one I lost to Miro. It was lots of fun, but it was during the pandemic, I was having the best matches of my career, and long story short, I’d like to run that shit back in front of a live crowd. We’ll continue to show everybody why that championship is the most important championship in AEW. Everyone is like, ‘I can’t wait until you become World Heavyweight Champion.’ I don’t give a shit about that. Give me that TNT Championship.”

Darby held the TNT Championship for 186 days. That run ended courtesy of Miro back in May. Darby is the longest-reigning TNT Champion in AEW’s short history.

At the moment, Darby is involved in a feud with MJF. MJF has tried to make things personal with Darby but once the mind games weren’t working, he and members of The Pinnacle attacked Darby in a parking lot.

Lio Rush Says Relationship with Mark Henry is Cordial

0

All Elite Wrestling talent Lio Rush has shared that his relationship with Mark Henry has improved.

In an interview with Oral Sessions’ Renee Paquette, Rush revealed that he and Henry had resolved issues. While they might disagree on certain things in pro wrestling, Rush says he has a cordial relationship with Henry.

“…Me and Mark Henry relationship is super cordial now,” said Rush. He praised the working environment at AEW and thought it would be foolish for them to continue to have issues with each other. He continued, “I think it came down to two very strong personalities and two very different eras of wrestling, and I think we just kind of like agree to disagree, and we are about to be working together now.”

Lio Rush and Mark Henry Past Issues

The problems between Rush and Henry began during Rush’s career in WWE. In 2019, Rush was unhappy with how the company was treating him. He felt WWE didn’t financially compensate him for his work. At the time, he was working with Bobby Lashley as a manager and wanted more money.

“My issue is the fact that I haven’t been on meet & greets with Bobby, haven’t been getting paid for merchandise for us that has my catchphrases on them,” said Rush. He also shared that he struggled to pay for his hotel and travel because he wasn’t making enough money.

On May 2, 2019, Henry criticized Rush for spending too much money. “If you can’t pay for a rental car, you can’t pay for a hotel with the money that you’re making every week; then you need to change the way you’re spending. You can’t blame that on the office. If you spent everything before you got it, that’s your problem,” Henry said. He also said, “Back in my day, they would’ve told him, ‘Lio, Bobby shouldn’t have to drive. He shouldn’t have to carry his bag.’ Yokozuna was my responsibility.”

Henry’s comments led to differences between the two that’s lasted for a year. On May 14, 2020, Rush reflected on what Henry said the previous year. He also claimed that Henry’s actions exemplify African Americans tearing down other African Americans from succeeding. Henry took exception to Rush’s comments and threatened legal action.

From Rush’s comments on the Oral Sessions’, he and Henry are on better terms. In AEW, both men look to have a fresh start and forget about past issues.

CM Punk Says He Wants To Wrestle In The Owen Hart Cup

0

CM Punk recently commented on the Owen Hart Cup tournament upcoming in AEW. He was on the Sport1 podcast and noted that he had heard about it before the official announcement was made. Still, he says the announcement had a big impact on him and he’s hoping to participate in the tournament.

“I knew about it beforehand, but it still hit me like a truck when I read the press release just because I think it’s such a staggering and monumental bridge,” Punk said (Transcriptions via Fightful). “I think it goes a long way to show and prove that Martha always wanted Owen’s memory to be revered and his legacy preserved. It just couldn’t be at WWE and if you really look at it, it makes a lot of sense. Now, the fans can embrace Owen again, like they’ve always wanted to, Martha can embrace the fans and support Owen’s legacy, like she’s always wanted to. There just wasn’t an outlet or a place to do it before. Now there is. It got me emotional reading the press release. I was like, ‘Wow.’ This is pretty special. Just as a wrestling fan.”

AEW announced a partnership with the Owen Hart Foundation last month. As part of the deal, AEW will be able to create merchandise featuring Owen’s likeness. This includes clothing, action figures, and his inclusion in the upcoming AEW console video game. The Owen Hart Foundation, run by Martha Hart, has various programs dedicated to underprivileged youth, education, and helping low-income families achieve home ownership.

“I’m not sure how the tournament is going to go, but I’m for sure throwing my name in that hat. I want to be in that tournament,” Punk continued.

The Owen Hart Cup

No details as to the format or schedule of the tournament have been announced thus far. Tony Khan has said he plans on it being an annual event, however.

Chris Jericho, who grew up idolizing Owen Hart and dreaming of being in a tag-team with him has also expressed his appreciation for AEW partnering with the Owen Hart Foundation.

Some of the highlights from Caster’s rap include the lyrics below (transcriptions likely not perfect):

“When I’m on AEW the crowd goes *bleeped*
Gotta keep it clean like a bucket and mop
The PR team is worried to watch

Yo what up to the Rock
Yeah I heard your rap song
Why you all up in my lane when Dwayne’s *Bleeped* is that long
Flow’s weak but the last’s strong
When the track’s on, you just can’t act on
Yo, come to Dynamite, we can get this match on
Yo, knock you out like Deontay
Say my name like Beyonce
Platinum Max on TMZ
Y’all don’t know what he gonna say.”

Dominik Mysterio Says He Didn’t Know About First Brock Lesnar Confrontation Until Last Minute

0

One of the very first moments that established Dominik Mysterio as a babyface on the WWE roster was the beatdown he received at the hands of Brock Lesnar. It happened during a Raw episode in 2019. As it turns out, he didn’t even know about his confrontation with the former world champion before he walked into the arena.

The 24-year-old recently made an appearance on Out of Character podcast with Ryan Satin. He discussed things such as his SummerSlam match against Seth Rollins and more. Discussing his Raw moment with the Beast Incarnate, Dominik revealed that his father had brought him in. Though he did not tell him who they will be working with:

“My dad had told me that we were going to do something with somebody but didn’t mention who, didn’t mention what. He just said we were going to do something with somebody.  I’m starting to think who we can work with or what’s going to happen, Brock [Lesnar] never came to mind.”

Dominik Mysterio Was Surprised When He Found Out

Dominik Brock Lesnar
Dominik suffered a beatdown at the hands of Lesnar

Dominik Mysterio recalled how he still couldn’t get a reply from Rey even when they had hit the road. It was a big surprise for him when the confrontation turned out to be against none other than Lesnar:

“We were driving to Phoenix, Arizona where I was going to be in the crowd and I was like, ‘Are you going to tell me now who we are wrestling or what’s the deal?’ He goes, ‘You’ll see when we get there.’ We end up getting there and next thing you know, I’m getting tossed around by Brock. So, everything was a surprise for me.”

Rey Mysterio was supposed to face Seth Rollins for the Universal title in the main event of the September 30, 2019 episode of Raw. However, Brock Lesnar interfered in the opening segment of the night. He took out not only Rey but his son Dominik as well. Rollins then defended his title against Rusev in the main event

Rampage Hits Record Low Rating Ahead Of SmackDown Confrontation

AEW Rampage has seen a big drop in viewership rating and key demo ahead of their upcoming confrontation with SmackDown this Friday Night.

This week’s episode of the show featuring the CM Punk vs. Daniel Garcia match as the opening bout of the night drew an average of 502,000 viewers per Showbuzz Daily.

This is a big 19.29% decline from last week’s episode of the show. The Rampage episode featuring the singles match between Nick Jackson and Bryan Danielson had drawn 622,000 viewers in total.

The taped show also saw a big decrease in the key demo rating. The episode drew a 0.17 rating in the 18-49 demo, which is a steep 32% decline from last week’s show.

With the decreased ratings, Rampage ranked #15 for the night on Cable Top 150 which is based on the demo rating. Last week’s episode of the show had ranked at #3.

WWE superstar Carmella has said that the ‘hate and threats’ she receives on social media are at an all-time high and it’s quite disturbing for her.

The former SmackDown women’s champion recently posted a no make-up selfie on her Instagram. In the caption, she discussed the negative environment of social media:

“Being on Instagram and Twitter recently has been hard. The hate and the threats are at an all time high, it’s quite disturbing actually.” wrote Carmella, “I usually just try to post and leave it alone, but it’s hard to NOT read the negativity sometimes.”

The female star continued saying that she luckily knows who she is. So she won’t let the haters get to her. She just wanted to post this message as a reminder to not believe in everything you read.

Carmella was drafted to the Raw roster last week, for the first time since the brand extension returned in 2016. Though the roster changes do not take effect until the Crown Jewel PPV. She has continued competing on SmackDown in the meantime.

Last Friday’s episode of the show saw her picking up a victory over Liv Morgan in a first-round Queen’s Crown tournament match. Their match was not given a lot of time and talents are said to be frustrated with this.

WWE Had Considered Breaking Up AJ Styles And Omos During Draft (Report)

0

WWE had considered breaking up a number of tag teams during the recently concluded Draft, and it appears one of them was the team of AJ Styles and Omos.

According to Wrestlevotes Twitter account, the officials had considered breaking up this duo. The discussion was serious enough to the point where their split was the plan.

However, some people of power including a main Raw talent expressed that Omos wasn’t quite ready for a singles run yet. The decision-makers listened to this and pulled back on their break up:

AJ Styles and Omos was not the only team that was in discussion for a breakup. WWE officials had also considered splitting up the Street Profits during the Draft.

They wanted to keep Angelo Dawkins on SmackDown. Montez Ford would have moved to Raw with his wife Bianca Belair. Though these plans were nixed as well. All three of them ended up being drafted to Raw.

AJ Styles has been teaming up with Omos since April this year. The two even won the Raw tag team titles at WrestleMania. They dropped the championship to Randy Orton and Riddle at SummerSlam.

The duo is set for a rematch against Orton and Riddle at the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV. You can check out the card for the show here.

McIntyre welcomed everyone to Monday Night RAW and noted that he won’t get to do that for a while because he is going to SmackDown. Drew brought up the stacked crowd for Crown Jewel and his match against Big E for the WWE Championship.

McIntyre claimed that he will once again become WWE Champion and the crowd gave him a mixed reaction. Drew added that this his last opportunity at the title before he goes to SmackDown. McIntyre was about to tell one of his stories but the WWE Champion interrupted.

The crowd popped for Big E as he entered the ring. Big E told Drew that he understands why he wants to be champion because he has seen those perks now. Big E added that McIntyre will never take the title from him. McIntyre noted how the crowd loves Big E and even though he is a two time champion, he never got his moment in front of the crowd. Drew claimed that his moment will come at Crown Jewel and there is not a damn thing Big E can do about it. The WWE Champion got in McIntyre’s face and started trash talking.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos interrupted and killed some time trash talking. Jimmy & Jey tried to leave but McIntyre and Big E wanted a fight. The Usos got the better of the exchange and hit a couple Superkicks. The match was made official for later on the show.

Ricochet flipped over the ring post onto Woods outside the ring and quickly followed it up with a Suicide Dive. Ricochet went for another one but Woods countered into a slam against the barricade.

The action returned to the ring and Woods climbed to the top turnbuckle. Woods hit a massive Elbow Drop for the pinfall victory. Xavier Wood advanced to the semifinals of the King of the Ring tournament.

Ali booted Benjamin off the apron and hit him with a Suicide Dive. Back in the ring, Cedric hit a Michinoku Driver on Ali and that was enough to win via pinfall. After the match, Mustafa Ali shoved Mansoor and walked away as if everything was his fault.

Shayna Baszler Advanced In The Queen’s Crown Tournament

Shayna Baszler squared off against Dana Brooke in the first round of the Queen’s Crown tournament. Dana bounced Shayna’s face off the turnbuckle as Corey Graves went on another rant about Graves. AJ Styles interrupted and said that everybody can see it coming. Riddle hit Styles with some kicks outside the ring but Omos dragged him into the ring as the bell rang.

Omos hit a Splash in the corner and then a big Chokeslam. Omos went for the cover but Styles stopped him. AJ said he wanted to see a roundhouse kick and Omos leveled Riddle. Styles asked them to roll the replay of it and then wanted to watch it in slow motion. AJ set up for the Styles Clash but Orton’s theme hit. Randy entered the ring and hit Styles with an RKO from behind. Orton left the ring and retreated before Omos got a hold of him.

Lashley Warned Goldberg

Bobby Lashley came to the ring for a promo and got the “what?!” treatment from the crowd. Lashley boasted about his suit and mocked Goldberg. Lashley added that he has challenged Goldberg to a No Holds Barred match because he is going into a fight against a rabid dog that needs to be put down. Bobby claimed that he will end Goldberg’s career at Crown Jewel. Lashley looked into the camera and said that Goldberg can’t kill The All Mighty.

Austin Theory def. Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy faced Austin Theory tonight on RAW. Theory attacked Jeff Hardy last week after taking a selfie with him. Austin connected with a Dropkick for a two count and then got Hardy in a submission hold in the middle of the ring. R-Truth ran through the ring and distracted Austin Theory. The Women’s Tag Match Ended In A No Contest

Sasha Banks teamed up with Bianca Belair to face Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair to begin the final hour of this week’s RAW. Banks and Belair argued about who gets to start off the match. Banks dragged Belair to the corner by her hair and then Bianca launched Sasha into the turnbuckle.

Lynch capitalized and attacked Bianca from behind. Charlotte got bounced off the ring apron and then ran into the ring and brawl broke out. Charlotte and Becky stomped on Bianca and Banks in opposite corners of the ring. Lynch hit Belair with an Exploder Suplex and threw Bianca to the outside. Charlotte then leveled Becky with a boot to the face and climbed to the top rope.

Sasha hit Flair with a punch and then Becky dragged her out of the ring. Sasha climbed to the top rope but Bianca caught her. Belair threw Banks onto Charlotte and Becky Lynch. WWE officials rushed the ring to break up the action. Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville shouted to get back into the ring and for the match to be restarted as RAW went to a break.

When RAW returned, Belair hit Lynch with a Suplex and followed it up with a Splash for a two count. Sasha tagged and Becky tried for the Dis-Arm-Her. Charlotte tagged herself in by patting Becky on the head several times. Charlotte mocked Becky and told her to get to the ring apron. Chelsea Green Blasts Tessa Blanchard For Bringing Impact Title To All In

0

Chelsea Green has put Tessa Blanchard on blast for trying to make her All In entrance with the Impact Knockouts Championship.

All In was a major independent wrestling show promoted by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks on Sept. 1, 2018. The event featured a slew of talent from NJPW and ROH. We also saw wrestlers from Impact Wrestling, AAA, CMLL, NWA, and MLW.

Blanchard was also seen on the card. She competed against Green, Britt Baker, and Madison Rayne in a four-corner survival match. Blanchard ended up getting the win.

During an edition of her Green With Envy podcast, Chelsea Green claimed Tessa tried bringing her Impact Knockouts Title with her for her entrance so that everyone else in the match would look inferior.

“We didn’t know who was winning the match until the day of All In until the afternoon actually. Tessa, who was in our match, brought her fucking IMPACT title to the show and tried to come out with it. In my mind, it was a way to look better than all of us. Bringing out a title, being the only person to come to the ring with a title, the fans are obviously immediately going to put you above the rest. Also, I feel like she did it because she knew that if she came out with the title, she couldn’t lose the title on the show. She couldn’t lose the title on a show that wasn’t IMPACT Wrestling.”

Tessa is set to be a part of the Women of Wrestling relaunch. She had a nasty split from Impact Wrestling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As for Green, she has been seen in Impact Wrestling, ROH, NWA, and other promotions since being released from WWE.

Mick Foley Calls For Tony Khan To Book Fan Requested AEW Rematch

0

Mick Foley has noticed fans wanting to see All Elite Wrestling book the anticipated rematch between Thunder Rosa and AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker.

The WWE Hall of Famer took to Twitter to try to convince the man who can make it happen and that’s AEW President Tony Khan. It all started when Foley had an exchange with Baker after Foley posted a backstage selfie with Rosa while at the GCW Fight Club event over the weekend.

https://twitter.com/RealMickFoley/status/1447015872120467459?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1447015872120467459%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpublish.twitter.com%2F%3Fquery%3Dhttps3A2F2Ftwitter.com2FRealMickFoley2Fstatus2F1447015872120467459widget%3DTweet

Foley called her the true women’s Hardcore Legend while also apologizing to Baker, who saw the post and responded with “Try again Mick. [face with tears of joy emoji].”

The Hardcore Legend responded by calling for Khan to help settle the argument by simply booking the bout. He wrote, “Last time I checked, Britt, it was @thunderrosa22 who picked up the W. Maybe a rematch is in order. @TonyKhan… want to help settle this argument?”

Khan has not responded to Foley’s tweet. Rosa and Baker last wrestled each other in a bloody unsanctioned main event match on an episode of Dynamite earlier this year.

In August, it was reported the promotion wanted to save the match for next year with it taking place at a pay-per-view or on a special episode of Dynamite.

Per the report, All Elite Wrestling has considered various stipulations ranging from a cage match to a hair match. Whatever stipulation is decided upon, the idea is to build it to be the biggest women’s match in company history.

Former WWE Star Big Damo: ‘I’ve Been In Contact With Almost Everybody’

0

Big Damo, who competed as Killian Dain in WWE, says he isn’t short on options.

Back in June, Damo was one of many talents released by WWE due to budget cuts. Since that time, Damo has had some visa issues. Once those are cleared up, Damo figures to be a solid pickup for just about any promotion.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Big Damo told Mark Henry and Ryan McKinnell that he’s been in touch with numerous promotions.

“Well, I can’t give the game away completely, Ryan. But I’ve been in contact with almost everybody. That’s probably the best way I can kinda put it. Honestly, my goal for the next year minimum is to try and get everywhere, wrestle everybody that I possibly can. I’m fit, I’m healthy and I’m raring to go. I’m at that position in my life, I’m 36 years old. I’ve been blessed with how my career has went so far but now I want to get out there and do everything I possibly can before I can’t [laughs].

“Honestly, the best way I can answer it is at first I’m gonna get back to Europe. As I said I’ve been waiting to see my family and I wanna try to pay it forward to the guys who are back there right now because a lot of people helped me get to this level, and I wanna be able to try and give it back a little bit first. And then I’m gonna do my very best to get all across the nation here as best I can.”

There are plenty of options for wrestlers outside of WWE. While not everyone can sign with AEW, which is the second most popular American wrestling company, the choices don’t end there. NJPW has been making a strong push in the U.S. with its NJPW Strong brand. There are also the likes of Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling.

As Damo mentioned, he’ll be making his mark in Europe first so fans may want to get a glimpse of him before he signs with someone in a bigger capacity.

Ricky Starks Clears The Air On In-Ring Status

0

Ricky Starks has cleared up any misconceptions about his time away from the ring.

On the Oct. 8 edition of AEW Rampage, Starks made his return to the ring. He defended the FTW Championship against former Team Taz member Brian Cage. Thanks to interference from Powerhouse Hobbs and Hook, Starks was able to hit Roshambo for the three-count.

Given that he was away from the ring but had still been seen on TV for months, some speculated that Ricky Starks may have not been fully healed from his neck injury. During a chat with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Starks put those rumors to rest.

“No, the situation is that I’ve been cleared since July, I had a match in Austin, and that was my first match after the neck injury, and I’ve been cleared thereafter. For whatever reason people just put together ‘well he isn’t on TV because of that.’ That was never stated, that was never confirmed, or anything like that. I do appreciate having the time off though, to further heal up my neck.”

Starks also said he appreciated AEW for allowing him to slow things down a bit before he got back inside the ring. He believes other promotions may have been quick to rush him back to action.

Starks has been seen on AEW Rampage often in the commentary booth. He claims to have taken over Mark Henry’s spot. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Starks isn’t a permanent fixture, rather the promotion will be rotating the booth for Rampage.

Becky Lynch Defends Summerslam Squash Against Bianca Belair

0

Becky Lynch is justifying WWE’s decision to have her defeat Bianca Belair in a matter of seconds.

Becky made her surprise return at the Summerslam PPV back in August. Belair was expected to put her SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line against Sasha Banks. When Sasha was a no-go, Carmella stepped up, but Becky got her out the way quickly.

Belair was then challenged by Becky Lynch to put her title on the line at that moment. Belair accepted and was nailed with a cheap shot from Becky, who scored the pin in under 30 seconds.

WWE was under heavy criticism for the finish. Many believe it did Bianca Belair no favors to lose in that fashion on such a big stage. Many also criticized the decision to turn Becky heel, a move that was reportedly her idea.

Appearing on the FOX Sports’ Out of Character podcast, Becky told Ryan Satin that it was the right move to make.

“I know a lot of people were upset [about the squash]. Well, if we had a long match and then I beat her, then I just beat her. That’s not good for her. But if she’s robbed and she doesn’t expect it, then we want to see her succeed. I think we’re doing just fine.”

Becky will be defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Belair and Sasha Banks on Oct. 21. The title match will be featured on the WWE Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia.

After the Crown Jewel event, Becky and Belair will be members of the Monday Night Raw brand. Banks will remain on SmackDown.

Bryan Danielson Feared The Rock Would Steal His ‘YES!’ Chants

0

Bryan Danielson admits there was a time when he thought The Rock was going to steal his thunder.

WWE fans had enough of Danielson, who was known as Daniel Bryan, being treated as an afterthought. The night after losing the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania back in 2012, Bryan received a huge ovation and for the first time, fans chanted “YES!” in unison.

Fans even chanted “YES!” during one of The Rock’s promos. Speaking to The Miami Herald, Bryan Danielson admitted he was worried that The Rock would take it and run with it as if the catchphrase was his own.

“It was a pretty cool moment. It was interesting because I wasn’t on Raw that night, I was just on the dark match. There was a funny moment where The Rock was out there doing a promo and everybody starts chanting ‘Yes!’ for Daniel Bryan and I said, ‘Oh no,’ because the Rock is so quick-witted. I said, ‘He’s for sure going to turn this around and it’ll become his thing. I’m not gonna have it.’ He came back and said, ‘Hey man, you’re super over out there.’ ‘Oh, yeah, it was really nice.’ He could’ve easily turned it around into a Rock thing and he didn’t, that was very kind of him.”

The fans continued to force their hand and eventually, Danielson got his big moment at WrestleMania 30. He defeated Batista and Randy Orton to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Danielson now competes under the AEW banner. He has said that he won’t be leading the “YES!” chants out of respect for WWE.

Number 10 On Which WrestleMania Match Inspired Him To Become Pro Wrestler

0

People usually have a superstar they looked up to as a child that leads them to pursuing a pro wrestling career. Though Preston “Number 10” Vance credits a match to have gotten him into pro wrestling.

The Dark Order member recently made an appearance on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox. He discussed things such as the tribute show for Brodie Lee from his hometown and more.

Revealing what inspired him to become a pro wrestler, Vance recalled an exact match that made him want to pursue a wrestling career out of all others:

“I have one definitive match where when I watched it I was like, ‘I want to do this.’ It was Hogan and Rock at ‘Mania at and before they even locked up when they just — that stare down in the Toronto SkyDome going crazy.

They’re not even doing anything and they love it, you know? I’m not someone who’s big on like, ‘Oh what a cool move.’ I like the moments.” said Number 10, “Literally, the Icon vs. Icon moments. So that was the definitive one.”

Later in the interview, the AEW star also offered big praise to John Cena saying that he is a huge fan of the cenation leader. He mentioned that it’s not even so much about what Cena does in the ring.

Number 10 discussed how the cenation leader has delivered the most wishes with make a wish foundation. He claimed that the 16-time world champion has gotten where he is by working super hard.

Tony Khan: “We’re About To Enter Another Golden Era For Professional Wrestling”

0

AEW President Tony Khan believes that wrestling is on the cusp of another golden era. He spoke recently with DAZN and mentioned that “All Out” was AEW’s Bash at the Beach 96 moment, and the future is looking bright.

“I think wrestling fans should strap in for a big ride,” stated Khan. “We’re not there yet but I feel it’s close. Things are happening and I don’t think it’s going to be too long before wrestling fans are going to feel what I felt in the late 1990’s when WWE and WCW went at trying to provide the best entertainment possible.”

There is some debate to be had as to when the true “Golden Age” of professional wrestling was. Some will say the Hulkamania boom of the 1980s that coincided with an exciting period for Jim Crockett Promotions, Ric Flair and the 4 Horsemen. Others will say it was the late 90s when WWF and WCW were competing with each other on Monday nights. Going back even farther, others will say the 1950s when television sets became more common in households and wrestling was featured prominently.

“I feel like we’ve come so far in the brief time we’ve been around but there’s still a lot more to come and that’s what we are trying to work on all of the time,” Khan continued. “We arrived with some short-term goals relating to talent and TV deals, and now we can aim bigger because we still have a lot to achieve.”

Do you believe Tony Khan is correct? Are we about to enter another Golden Age of professional wrestling? Let us know in the comments section below. AEW Rampage and WWE Smackdown will go head-to-head (for 30 minutes anyway) next Friday night. Khan commented on this in the below Tweets:

Former WCW Wrestler Crowbar To Make AEW Debut

0

The former Crowbar from WCW (aka Devon Storm) will make his AEW debut on Dark: Elevation this week. He participated in the tapings held on October 6th from the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He’ll face Joey Janela and be accompanied to the ring by ECW Original, The Blue Meanie. The match will air Monday night on AEW’s YouTube channel.

Crowbar is a former WCW Cruiserweight, Hardcore, and Tag Team Champion (w/ David Flair). He is perhaps best known for his time in a trio along with David Flair and Daffney.

The wrestling world is mourning the loss of Daffney, real name Shannon Spruill, who passed away on September 1st at the age of 46. At one point, Daffney and Crowbar were co-Cruiserweight Champions together after defeating then champion Chris Candido and Tammy Sytch in a tag-team match. They then met in singles action, with Daffney coming out the victor after interference from Candido.

Crowbar spoke with Chris from the It’s My Wrestling Podcast about what a wonderful person Daffney was.

“She was a type of person that would walk into a locker room, or wherever, and would instantly, just, joy would come in,” Crowbar said (transcriptions via Sportskeeda). “She would just light up a room. A very happy, positive person, and we stayed close all these years.”

Adam Cole Reacts To Bobby Fish Signing With AEW

0

Adam Cole has given his reaction to Bobby Fish signing with AEW.

Fish appeared on the second-anniversary edition of AEW Dynamite. He challenged Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship. Guevara ended up getting the victory and many assumed this was a one-off for Bobby Fish.

As it turns out, Fish is actually All Elite. Now that he will be on the AEW roster going forward, it’s led many to wonder if Fish will reunite with Cole. After all, the two were members of the Undisputed Era during their time on NXT.

You may have to hold your horses on that thought a little bit. During an appearance at the 2021 New York Comic-Con convention, Adam Cole addressed Fish’s AEW signing and the possibility of bringing him into The Elite (h/t Fightful).

“The last time I was around Bobby Fish, things with my former group didn’t end so well. I’m not sure we’re on the best terms. However, I am very happy that he’s in AEW, I hope everybody else too. We’ll see if it gets to the point where we invite him into The Elite. I don’t know if I’m emotionally ready for that yet.”

It was reported by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW EVPs, The Young Bucks, were crucial in getting Bobby Fish signed to the promotion.

Fish had been released by WWE as part of a wave of NXT roster cuts. Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong are the only former Undisputed Era members left in WWE.

CM Punk: I Won’t Need 30 Minutes To Beat Kenny Omega

0

CM Punk believes that he will eventually meet Kenny Omega and the match won’t go to a time limit draw.

Since making his return to the pro wrestling industry, Punk has been slowly getting back into the swing of things. He hasn’t been thrust into the main event scene right away, although he is getting main event reactions. That’s because in AEW, there is a rankings system and CM Punk is slowly climbing his way up the ladder.

Eventually, Punk does want a piece of the AEW gold. The current World Heavyweight Champion is Kenny Omega. During an interview with Sport1, Punk said that unlike the match with Bryan Danielson, Omega will not be going the distance with him.

“The AEW Title is definitely something I want. I look at my career as being, I haven’t wrestled for seven years, I can’t come in and challenge for a world title right away. I look at the situation with Bryan Danielson coming in and wrestling Kenny Omega in his first match, but it wasn’t for the title. When I wrestle Kenny Omega, it’s gonna be for the title and I’m not going to need 30 minutes to beat him.”

Punk is 3-0 under the AEW banner. He’s picked up wins over Darby Allin, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Daniel Garcia. Many are wondering what will be the next big feud for Punk as we’re a month away from the Full Gear PPV.

As for Omega, he’s been feuding with Danielson but there’s an interesting situation. Hangman Page recently won the Casino Ladder Match, earning him a shot at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.

Tony Khan On If The SummerSlam Returns Were Response To Recent AEW Debuts

0

Tony Khan created a lot of buzz for his promotion when he brought in people like CM Punk, Adam Cole, and Bryan Danielson to AEW in close successions. Many believe that WWE reacted to these big debuts by bringing back Brock Lesnar and Becky Lynch at the SummerSlam PPV. Though the AEW president is not sure about it.

Khan was asked if he thinks the SummerSlam returns were a reactive booking from WWE during an interview with Dazn. Replying to it, Tony said that he can’t be sure:

“I can’t say for sure what’s on their minds; Summerslam is a big deal for those guys over there so maybe they had it long in their plans that it would be the place that Brock and Becky returned. We’ve got to keep doing what we’ve been doing so far and that’s trying to give people, our fans, the best possible wrestling product we can.

Tony Khan On If WWE Considers AEW A Competition

Tony Khan
Tony Khan

WWE has tried to undermine AEW as a competition every chance they have gotten. Discussing whether they actually think AEW is a rival for them, Tony Khan mentioned how he has heard that his shows are watched in the gorilla position in WWE:

“Do they see us as rivals or competition? They say we’re not, but I’ve heard that AEW shows are on monitors in the Gorilla position over there, so I take that as a compliment if they’re watching us whilst trying to run their own show.”

Khan went on to claim that he admires them for doing this. According to him, trying to run a show while watching another one is something else. He said that he puts everything he has into producing AEW shows. There is no way he can watch something else while trying to get on with things.
