AEW also announced a big #1 contenders’ casino ladder match for Dynamite next week. The winner will get a shot at Kenny Omega’s world title in the future. The participants for the bout have not been revealed.

Hikaru Shida will be fighting on the show as well. She will try to pick up her 50th win in AEW against Serena Deeb.

If this wasn’t enough, the company has confirmed that Bryan Danielson will also be in action during the show. He will compete in a 6 men tag team match. 0

AEW has announced a singles match for Bryan Danielson and a hair vs. hair bout among others for this Friday’s episode of Rampage. After their match on last week’s episode of Dynamite ended in a time limit draw, Danielson tried to get a rematch with the AEW champion Kenny Omega on this Wednesday’s episode of the show.

However, when Omega continued to deny a rematch to the former WWE star, Danielson offered to face any of the other members of the Elite on Rampage. The company later announced that Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks has accepted this challenge. He will be facing the former world champion in a singles match on Friday.

A triple threat match among Jade Cargill, Thunder Rosa, and Nyla Rose was also announced for Rampage during the night. Though this isn’t all. The promotion has previously confirmed that Orange Cassidy will be facing TH2’s Jack Evans in a hair vs. hair match at this Friday’s episode of the show.

AEW has announced a number of exciting matches for next week’s episode of Dynamite as well. The bouts announced for the show include a #1 contenders ladder match and more. You can check out the card for Dynamite here.

Sammy Guevara Pays Tribute To Brodie Lee After Dynamite Goes Off Air

0

Sammy Guevara fulfilled his promise and defeated God’s favorite champion, Miro, for the TNT championship in the main event of tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite. The Wednesday night show this week took place from the hometown of Brodie Lee in Rochester, New York. Tony Khan had previously announced that the episode will be dedicated to the memory of the former TNT champion.

Guevara also paid tribute to the late star after the show went off air. He addressed the crowd saying his goal now is to become one of the best TNT champions there ever was:

“For every kid who is out there with a dream of something you wanna do, all you gotta do is believe in yourself and work hard. Now my goal is to be one of the best TNT champions there ever was, but Rochester, I gotta be honest with you, we know who the real greatest TNT champion was.”

The crowd started chanting Brodie’s name after this. Acknowledging it, Sammy Guevara mentioned how he will never be able to fill the shoes left behind by Lee. He then called the TNT title the greatest championship in pro wrestling:

“I will never be able to fill the shoes that you left behind, I mean, you had some big ass feet. But I’m going to do my damnedest and work as hard as I can and carry this title with pride.” said the new champion, “No offense to Kenny’s belt, but this is the greatest title in professional wrestling!”

Sammy then told the production crew to not play his music. He instead asked the people in attendance to send him out with a Brodie chant which the crowd did. You can check out the complete Dynamite results below:

Sammy Guevara beat Miro in the main event of this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite to become the fifth TNT champion in the history of the title.

AEW had announced a title match for this week’s show after the former WWE star had a confrontation with the Spanish God on the September 17 episode of Rampage.

The match took place in the main event of this week’s episode of Dynamite. Miro dominated the early stages of the bout and he kept Guevara down.

The ending of this bout saw the champion ripping off the pads from the top turnbuckle of all four corners. However, before he could use the exposed turnbuckle to his advantage, Fuego Del Sol got up on the apron.

Miro punched Fuego off the apron but this gave Sammy Guevara an opportunity. He sent the champion face first in the turnbuckle with a knee strike.

The challenger then delivered a tornado DDT and followed it up with a GTH. Sammy finally got to the top rope and delivered a 630 santon on Miro to cover him for the pin.

This ends Miro’s 140 day long run with the TNT championship. He had won the title from Darby Allin during the May 12 episode of Dynamite earlier this year.

Bryan Danielson Gave Kenny Omega A New Nickname

The Elite made their way to the ring following Cole’s match.

Karl Anderson referred to the group as the Super Elite and boasted about their championships. Cole grabbed the microphone and shouted that he beat Jungle Boy by himself because he is elite. Cole added that he is undefeated and Cutler took the microphone. Nick Jackson ripped it away and told Cutler to shut up. He then handed the microphone to Nakazawa and a CM Punk chant broke out.

AEW World Champion Kenny Omega claimed that he has received countless texts complimenting his match against Bryan Danielson. Omega said that is cool but Danielson couldn’t get the job done when it counted and doesn’t deserve a rematch because he still doesn’t have a record in AEW.

Bryan Danielson interrupted and asked the crowd if they want to see a rematch and they chanted “yes!”. Danielson said they want a rematch, he wants a rematch, but it appears that Omega doesn’t have the balls to do it. The crowd chanted “no balls!” and Danielson introduced the AEW Champion as Kenny “No Balls” Omega. A very loud “Kenny No Balls!” chant broke out and Omega threw a tantrum.

Danielson challenged anyone from The Elite to a match on Rampage. Omega wondered why he wanted to wrestle on Rampage and said he wanted a fight now. Jurassic Express, Christian Cage, and Frankie Kazarian joined Danielson and they rushed the ring. The Elite retreated to the end the segment. It was later announced that Danielson will face Nick Jackson this Friday night on Rampage.

Arn Anderson told Cody to stop talking because of what Malakai Black has done to them. Anderson said that there is a big difference between himself and Cody. If someone tried to steal Cody’s car, he would just let him take it. Arn claimed that he would pull out a gun and blast him. Arn told Cody that he will be damned if he is going to coach a loser that won’t listen to him and left the ring with Lee Johnson.

Moxley, Kingston and Darby Allin Picked Up A Win

Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston, and Darby Allin faced Bear Country & Anthony Greene. Sting was ringside for the match. Greene tried to shake Darby Allin’s hand but he wasn’t having it. When Dynamite returned, Dark Order continued to argue with each other. Cassidy tagged in and hit a lazy Splash on Jack Evans for a two count. Evil Uno walked out as Jack Evans rolled up Cassidy for a two count. The match devolved into a massive brawl again.

Amanda Huber, -1, Tay Conti, and Anna Jay came to the entrance ramp. Huber demanded that Dark Order get on the same page and they rushed the ring and cleared out HFO. Scorpio Sky said he is one of the first champions in the company with a great win/loss record. Sky joked that he even climbed a ladder to grab a giant Sonic ring but it still wasn’t enough but thankfully Dan took notice. Page grabbed the microphone and said that the crowd looks past guys like him because he doesn’t swear or throw his middle finger up. Ethan noted that he is undefeated but somehow is still overlooked. Darby Allin Interrupted MJF

MJF and Wardlow came to the ring and MJF brought up Tony Khan. MJF said he has Bruce Prichard on speed dial if Tony doesn’t start giving him the opportunities he deserves. MJF added that out of all the Khans in professional wrestling, Tony is easily in his top two.

Darby Allin interrupted and MJF joked that he digs the whole “school shooter mime on a skateboard routine” and the crowd gasped (thankfully some laughed too). MJF referred to Sting as great #2 guy and Darby is the same. Allin told MJF to leave and joked that he is the only champion the ring.

MJF brought up that Darby is straight edge because his uncle died in a drunk driving accident while Allin was in the car. MJF shouted that the wrong man died and dared Allin to hit him. Allin told MJF that he will not hit him and that Max will not break him mentally. MJF got flustered and left with Wardlow as Darby stood tall. CM Punk commented that bullies often retreat when they are stood up to.

Cody Rhodes On Who He Wants To Face Most Between CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, & Adam Cole

0

Cody Rhodes was interviewed by ESPN ahead of tonight’s big Dynamite event from Rochester, New York. During the interview, Rhodes was asked who out of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Cole he is most interested in facing in AEW.

“Adam Cole,” Rhodes answered without hesitation. “It’s an easy question for me to answer in terms of I feel Adam Cole is very well known by the hardcore wrestling audience and, of course, fans of the Elite and Bullet Club and that entire portion of this revolution. But I also think that casual fans or lapsed fans or just new fans have only seen just the tip of the iceberg of what he’s capable of.”

“I know Bryan Danielson is one of the best in the world, I know CM Punk even after a 7-year absence is one of the best in the world. They’re helping pull this wagon already and they’ve only been here a few days. Adam Cole gets to show a whole new audience and gets to interact and create a whole new brand for himself just because he has such a large platform to do it with AEW. He’s the one I’m most excited about getting in the ring with when and if that challenge presents itself.”

Cody Rhodes vs Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Adam Cole

Cody Rhodes and CM Punk shared the ring together often in WWE and OVW. They twice wrestled singles matches against each other on WWE’s main roster. Punk defeated Rhodes on the 9/22 RAW in 2008. Rhodes then defeated Punk via count-out later that year on the 12/19 RAW.

Rhodes also shared the ring with Bryan Danielson often while they were both in WWE. Including house shows, they wrestled each other in 15 singles matches from 2011-13. Rhodes leads their all-time series 8-7.

Adam Cole and Cody Rhodes teamed together on 4 occasions as members of Bullet Club, with all four matches taking place in Ring of Honor. Their only singles match against each other was on 5/26 in 2017 at a show for NorthEast Wrestling. Rhodes won and defended the NEW Heavyweight title successfully against Cole on that show.

Brian Cage Discusses AEW’s Creative Process

0

Brian Cage recently appeared on Dan and Don’s Toxic Masculinity Podcast with Don Frye and Dan Severn. During the discussion, Cage said that Tony Khan is taking on the vast majority of the creative responsibilities in AEW.

“Creative team? No. It’s just Tony. Tony Khan who owns it [AEW] and he does so much anyway already, it’s literally just all him,” Cage said on the show (transcriptions via POST Wrestling). “He’ll have some help or input from other guys and some of the EVPs that you know helped start it like The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes. They kind of help do their own stuff.”

Cage continued to say that Khan has the final and often only say on the majority of the product.

“Tony pretty much has the final and only say on majority of the entire product which is a little nuts. I do think that it could benefit with some of the people helping out on that.”

Cage also said that Tony Khan is always up for discussing creative ideas, something he doesn’t believe happens elsewhere. He also said the backstage environment in AEW “far exceeds” anywhere else he’s been. Cage also praised the way the company handles the laying out of matches.

“They don’t micromanage anything…it’s pretty easy going in that regard.”

Brian Cage clarifies Comments

Brian Cage took to Twitter to clarify that he was not speaking poorly of AEW’s creative process, just that Tony Khan takes on a lot of work with it.

“He could benefit from sharing some responsibility as in it’d take some weight off his shoulders, smh. I get enjoying it and wanting to over see everything, it’s just a lot of work for any one person, without other obligation on top of it. But didn’t say anything negative. Damn,” he Tweeted.

Cage hasn’t wrestled since September 1st. It was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he is currently dealing with his knees flaring up after a stem cell treatment.

Status Update On Randy Orton Following Absence

0

An update on the status of Randy Orton has been revealed through a new report.

Many WWE fans have been curious about Orton’s latest absence. Orton missed a house show date this past weekend despite being advertised and wasn’t seen on the Sept. 27 edition of Monday Night Raw. His absence has been puzzling as “The Viper” just recently took some time off before making it back in time for SummerSlam.

PWInsider is reporting that Orton is not cleared for action. At this time, there is no word on why Orton hasn’t been cleared or when he’s expected to be back on WWE TV. Randy Orton was last seen on the Sept. 20 episode of Monday Night Raw when he went one-on-one with AJ Styles.

Orton is one of the top superstars in WWE. Whenever he’s absent without explanation, it’s quite noticeable. Orton has won world championships multiple times under the WWE banner. He is currently one-half of the Raw Tag Team Champions with Riddle. Riddle was in action on the latest episode of Raw as he faced off with Styles.

Stick with SEScoops for the latest details on Randy Orton’s latest absence from WWE TV once that information becomes available.

Big E On New Day vs. Bloodline Match: “I Wish We Had More Time”

0

Many believe that WWE should have spent some time building the New Day vs. The Bloodline match instead of putting it on the September 20 Raw to get a rating boost. It appears Big E agrees with this sentiment.

The new WWE champion recently appeared on Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette. He talked about things such as his big championship victory and more.

E also talked about The New Day vs. The Bloodline match being done without any build-up. He admitted that he wishes it was given more time and hoped that they can do it again somewhere down the line:

“I wish we had more time and more build, and hopefully we’ll be able to revisit it because obviously, it didn’t really conclude.” said the former NXT champion “I’m not saying it was bad, but I hope we can do it again.”

Big E went on to praise The Usos saying they are definitely in the conversation for the greatest tag team of all time. He discussed Roman Reigns as well saying that he is doing absolutely incredible work.

Apart from this, the WWE champion revealed when he found out that he was cashing in his money in the bank contract and winning the title. You can check out his comments on the matter at this link.

Riddle On His Relationship With Vince McMahon

0

Despite being the outspoken star he is, Matt Riddle says he still have a good relationship with Vince McMahon and receives regular compliments from him.

The one half of the current Raw tag team champions recently appeared on the Fox Sports Out of Character podcast. He discussed things such as his heat with Goldberg, whether the two have buried the hatchet and more.

When asked if he has a good relationship with the Chairman of the Board, Riddle claimed Mr. McMahon sees him at least once every week.

“We do and we don’t, if I’m being 100% honest, I’ve been on TV a lot, I work a lot,” said Riddle “Vince sees me every week at least once, so he sees me and I’ve gotten a lot of handshakes. ‘Good job, I love your stuff.’ A lot of compliments.”

Riddle Just Wants a Hug

Matt Riddle gets a hug from Randy Orton

Riddle went on to explain he just wants approval from Mr. McMahon in the form of a physical embrace.

“I’ve yet to receive a Vince McMahon hug. I was hoping I’d get one after SummerSlam, but not so much. I don’t want to force – don’t force it. He’ll hug me when he’s ready.”

Matt also talked about his outspoken nature admitting that he has overstepped his boundaries a couple of times. Though he then explained that he feels like trash-talking is part of the world of professional wrestling.

Vince’s Relationship with Talent

Vince McMahon has served as a father figure to many WWE Superstars throughout the years. He has a reputation for being a tough, but fair boss. Many have craved his attention and approval throughout the years.

Over the past several months, several wrestlers have spoken publicly about their relationship with McMahon:

Jeff Hardy has said he and Vince have a business relationship. “I try to do the best I can for him and for WWE,” he told  Felger & Massaroti. “Hopefully that’s enough.”

Ruby Soho spent a few years in WWE as Ruby Riott. She also explained her relationship with Vince as lukewarm, but professional. During an appearance on Renee Paqette’s Oral Sessions podcast, she said, “We didn’t speak very often… We didn’t really talk, he was always so busy. He was so busy. I think I spoke to him in his office probably in four years, twice?”

Seth Rollins has a stronger relationship with the boss. He felt comfortable enough to vent his anger to Vince after his controversial match with The Fiend at Hell in a Cell 2019.

Bryan Danielson To Clash With The Elite Again This Week On Rampage

0

It looks like Bryan Danielson is in for a big match on the Oct. 1 edition of AEW Rampage.

Tension has been brewing between Danielson and The Elite. It’s been this way ever since “The American Dragon” made his AEW debut at the conclusion of the All Out PPV on Sept. 5. It led to a non-title match between Danielson and AEW World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega.

Danielson vs. Omega took place on the Grand Slam edition of AEW Dynamite. It was held inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. The two went to a 30-minute draw. After the match, The Elite attacked Bryan Danielson before Christian Cage and Jurassic Express made the save.

There have been rumblings about a big match being set for the upcoming Rampage episode. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio got fans buzzing with the following tweet.

“Evidently there is a big match being taped tomorrow unannounced for Rampage on Friday.”

The match is indeed big and it involves Danielson. Andrew Zarian is reporting that Bryan Danielson vs. Nick Jackson will be taking place on the show.

“Hearing Bryan Danielson vs Nick Jackson is set for Rampage this week.”

If the report holds up, then this will be Danielson’s first match on Rampage. It would also be just his second match on AEW TV.

Stick with SEScoops this Friday night for AEW Rampage results.

Ruby Soho On AEW Women’s Division & Future Opponents

0

Ruby Soho has made an impact since her surprise debut at AEW All Out earlier this month. She had a competitive match against AEW Women’s Champion at Dynamite Grand Slam, but came up short against pro wrestling’s premiere dentist.

Soho recently spoke with Bleacher Report and discussed who she is excited to work with in AEW. “As far as people that I haven’t got a chance to step in the ring with, one of the people I noticed right off the bat is Nyla Rose,” she said. “Her presence in the ring is just astounding to me.”

Soho continued, “I am super-impressed by the work that she’s done here in AEW. She’s definitely somebody I would love to step into the ring with.”

Soho also looks forward to crossing paths with veteran performer Serena Deeb.

“Serena Deeb as well is somebody I have followed for the majority of my career, and she’s somebody I look up to quite a bit. So she’s somebody I would love to learn from,” she said.

Soho also spoke about Tay Conti, someone she was on the NXT roster with from 2016 until Soho and the Riott Squad were moved to the main roster in late 2017. At the time, Ruby had several years of experience but Conti was just starting her pro-wrestling career.

“Taynara [Conti] is somebody I’ve known since she started, and she’s someone who has continued to impress me each time she stepped into the ring,” Soho said of her.

Ruby Soho in AEW

Not wanting to leave anyone out, Soho said that she’s basically a fan of anyone on the AEW roster. She’s looking forward to getting in the ring with any of them.

“So any of those women, any of the women on the roster in general, are people that I’m a huge fan of, so I’m just excited about stepping into the ring with any of them.”

Soho has had 4 matches in her young AEW career thus far. She won the Casino Battle Royale at All Out after entering as the Joker card. Later that week she wrestled twice in Cincinnati. Her first match on the 9/8 show from the Fifth Third Arena saw her defeat Jamie Hayter. Then later that night she would wrestle on the Rampage tapings as well. She teamed with Kris Statlander and Riho and defeated Britt Baker, Jamie Hayter, and Rebel.

After Lashley defeated Orton, E successfully cashed in his briefcase to lay claim to the gold.

During an appearance on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast, E unveiled when he knew about the decision to have him win the WWE gold.

“I didn’t know I was going to RAW ’til that Saturday. We did the show in New York and I was driving from New York to DC, and then I just got a call that my travel and everything was adjusted. So I was like, ‘okay, I’m going to RAW.’ But it wasn’t until Monday afternoon, pretty much right before I sent the tweet, that it was like, ‘alright, all systems are go and this is what we’re doing.’ So pretty much from then on, it feels like my life changed because everything has been so much more hectic.”

Big E has already successfully defended his title against Lashley in a steel cage match. With the draft coming up on the Oct. 1 edition of SmackDown, it’ll be interesting to see who makes their way to Monday Night Raw. We could have some potential contenders lined up for E.

Eric Bischoff Thinks AEW Should Hold Off Bray Wyatt’s Debut

0

Bray Wyatt is rumored to make his AEW debut as soon as this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite. Though Eric Bischoff believes that the promotion should hold off on the former world champion’s first appearance for a few months.

The former WCW president discussed it on the latest episode of his 83 weeks podcast. He mentioned how AEW has seen a good few surprise appearances recently and explained what he would do if he was in the place of Tony Khan:

“If I were in Tony Khan’s shoes, I would give the surprises a breather, they’ve done a great job, they’ve gotten tremendous return on their investment.” said Bischoff, “It’s served its purpose beyond expectation in my opinion. But I would give that a rest.”

Discussing when he thinks AEW should bring Wyatt in, the former Raw GM said that he would save his debut for the first quarter of next year because they have had so many great signings recently:

“Let’s just assume Bray Wyatt is going to end up [in AEW].” said Eric Bischoff, “I wouldn’t do that till after the first of [January]. I’d save that for the first quarter of next year because they’ve had so many signings, and they’re great ones too.”

The former WCW official explained his comments with an analogy of a roller coaster. He said that people need some rest for them to be able to enjoy the next exhilaration point of a roller coaster and claimed that we are getting close to ‘surprise fatigue’ after all the recent debuts.

Tony Khan has confirmed that this week’s Dynamite episode from Rochester, NY will be dedicated to Brodie Lee. Khan has also teased some big plans for the show and Bray Wyatt is rumored to make his debut on the episode.

Former Raw Underground Star Makes AEW Dark Debut

0

This week’s episode of AEW Dark featured the debut of two more former NXT stars in Santana Garrett and Arturo Ruas now known as Adrian Jaoude.

Garrett took part in a backstage interview during the opening of the show. She said that she wanted to make her father proud and show everyone that she is elite.

The former NXT star was interrupted by Diamante. She challenged the debutant for a match next week on AEW Dark. The duo then brawled and the segment ended with them being separated.

Jaoude on the other hand teamed up with his real-life best friend Cezar Bononi for a tag team match. They won the bout against Jake St. Patrick & Ryzin.

Both Garrett and Jaoude were released from their WWE contracts in June this year. Prior to tonight’s AEW show, Santana Garrett competed in the 2021 Royal Rumble.

Jaoude had not wrestled since November 2020. He had faced the former NXT cruiserweight champion Kushida in a one-on-one match back then.

Some fans may also recognize Adrian Jaoude from his Raw Underground appearances as Arturo Ruas. He had defeated Mikey Spandex in his debut match for the short-lived division hosted by Shane McMahon.

Tony Khan Confirms This Week’s Dynamite Will Be Dedicated To Memory Of Brodie Lee

0

Tony Khan has announced that this week’s episode of Dynamite from Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY will be dedicated to the memory of Brodie Lee. The AEW president made the announcement on Twitter. He noted how Rochester is the hometown of the late star and claimed that they will have a great show dedicated to the former TNT champion’s memory:

“It’s Wednesday. You know what that means. Tonight #AEWDynamite is Live from Rochester, home of Mr. Brodie Lee.” wrote Khan, “Tonight we’ll have a great show dedicated to his memory with a special card including a huge TNT Championship match, a title forever synonymous with his indelible legacy.”

Brodie Lee, real name Jonathan Huber passed away on December 26, 2020, after battling with lung issues for a while. His death shocked the entire wrestling world. Tony Khan and AEW had dedicated an episode of Dynamite to the late star’s memory back then as well. The Brodie Lee Celebration of Life Dynamite aired on December 30, 2020.

The lineup for this week’s episode of the show includes Miro vs. Sammy Guevara TNT championship match, Cody Rhodes & Lee Johnson vs. Matt Sydal & Dante Martin, Adam Cole vs. Jungle Boy, and Penelope Ford & The Bunny vs. Anna Jay & Tay Conti.

MVP Responds To Criticism Over The Hurt Business Reunion

0

MVP, who is currently out of action following a knee surgery, has responded to fan criticism over the Hurt Business reunion seen on this week’s episode of Raw.

A fan tweeted at the former US champion saying that Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander’s reunion with Bobby Lashley did not make sense.

MVP responded to this complaint of the fan with a tweet of his own. As seen below, he posted an emoji and wrote: “You didn’t grow up with brothers obviously”:

The team of Benjamin and Alexander lost a 2 on 1 handicap match against Drew McIntyre. This barred them from the ringside for Bobby Lashley’s WWE championship match against the Scottish Warrior at WrestleMania 37.

As a result of this loss, Bobby Lashley attacked the duo on the March 29 episode of Raw this year, effectively kicking them out of the Hurt Business and ending the faction.

However, MVP had recently teased a Hurt Business reunion prior to taking time off. This week’s episode of Raw then saw Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin interfering in the opening match of the night between Lashley and Big E.

It’s unknown if the reunion was a one-night thing or if we are going to see the Hurt Business competing together once again in the coming future.

More On Upcoming WWE Draft

0

WWE Draft is expected to begin later this week with Friday’s episode of SmackDown. It will conclude with next Monday’s episode of Raw.

Dave Meltzer talked about the Draft on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. He reported that both Fox and USA Network have already been informed of the ‘key people’ who will be switching brands.

He also confirmed the previous reports about NXT superstars being included in the Draft. Meltzer said that it’s an effort from the official to freshen up the rosters. Though it was mentioned that the plans can change at any time.

There is no word on which stars are expected to be moved. Local advertisements have been promoting a Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre match for this week’s SmackDown suggesting that McIntyre may show up on the blue brand.

Although since the bout is advertised as a Universal championship match, it’s very likely that it will end up being a dark match. It’s even possible that it may not take place on the night at all.

A number of NXT stars have been working dark matches in recent times. The names include Austin Theory, Kacy Catanzaro, Xia Li, Aliyah, and Dakota Kai.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. also worked some dark matches over the Summer. Now it would be interesting to see if any of these stars get assigned to a brand during Draft.

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

Kyle O’Reilly vs. Ridge Holland

01 nxt

Late on Tuesday, WWE announced that Kyle O’Reilly vs. Ridge Holland in a singles match for the show. Just two weeks ago, Holland and Pete Dunne attacked O’Reilly in the locker room, which prevented him from working the fatal four-way match for the vacant NXT Championship.

Last week in the main event, Tommaso Ciampa and Bron Breakker faced Dunne and  Holland where O’Reilly appeared to stop Holland from using his club as a weapon.

These guys brawled earlier in the show then before the match. There was outside inference by Dunne, but Kyle managed to roll him up for the win. After the match, Holland and Dunne attacked Kyle until Von Wagner, who Wagner replaced Kyle in the fatal 4-way title match a few weeks ago, ran down to make the save.

No DQ Match

0 nxt 1

B-Fab vs. Elektra Lopez in a No DQ Match took place in the opening contest of the show.

Hit Row (Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Ashante “Thee” Adonis, Top Dolla, and B-FAB) and Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Raul Mendoza and Elektra Lopez) have been feuding for over a month now.

The match saw them go right at it and put on a pretty stiff bout. They used a chair for a spot and Lopz sent a table in the gut of B-Fab. Lopez won with a sitdown powerbomb.

NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match

nxt 1

NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Io Shirai and Zoey Stark defended the titles against Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne.

Mandy Rose, Dolin, and Jayne are known as “Toxic Attraction” in NXT. Last week, the group cut a promo sending a warning to the entire women’s division. Dollin and Jayne later issued a challenge to Io and Zoey, which led to this match being made.

The match was one of the best bouts on the show as they were doing various high spots and had a quick pace. Zoey hit a nasty german suplex right on Jacy’s head. Stark at one point hit a flipping GTS move that was pretty sweet. The finish saw Io hit a springboard moonsault for the win.

NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match

nxt 2

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong made his first title defense against Grayson Waller. The match saw Waller got a lot of offense in and was bringing a real fight to Strong, who was giving him plenty. Waller wears boughting shorts. At one point, Waller rolled into the ring and hit a stunner for a near fall. Strong won with a knee strike to the face.

Roderick Strong defeated Kushida to win the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. Following the match, Waller came out to issue a challenge to Strong for the title, which was obviously accepted.

Waller(formerly known as Matty Wahlberg) joined the WWE Performance Center this April and had been working matches on the 205 Live brand. He’s also been aligned with Drake Maverick in NXT.

Title Match

0 nxt 2

WWE NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez defended against Franky Monet. The match was saved for the main event in which Monet got most of the time to shine. Raquel made a comeback and hit her finisher for the win.

Post-match, Toxic Attraction came out to attack Monet and The Robert Stone Brand. They circled Raquel before attacking her. Mandy Rose stood tall with the title to close the show.

When Monet first made her promotional debut, she had her sights set on the title as she confronted Gonzalez in April. Just three weeks ago, Monet interrupted a backstage interview with Gonzalez and promised to take Gonzalez’s shine and her title.

Gonzalez defeated Jessi Kamea two weeks ago and after the match, she had a staredown with Moment, who is aligned with Kamea and Robert Stone.

Gonzalez won the NXT Women’s Championship from Io Shirai at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in April.

Cody Rhodes Denies AEW Grand Slam Gear Was Inspired By Homelander

0

Fans who were convinced that the gear Cody Rhodes wore for AEW Grand Slam was inspired by Homelander are in for a rude awakening.

Rhodes competed inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. He went one-on-one with Malakai Black in a rematch. Cody fell victim to the classic mist in the eyes and a small package, which led to him losing the match.

Fans couldn’t help but notice Cody’s gear. Many assumed it took inspiration from Homelander. That isn’t the case, however. Here’s what Cody Rhodes told Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement.

“The Boys, which is a wonderful everything. If you’re not ready or watching The Boys, it’s outstanding. (My gear) isn’t (inspired by the show). I feel bad saying it isn’t because everyone thought the initial cape that [Lead Seamstress/Designer] Ms. Sandra Gray had made was Homelander inspired, but really, I think it was a Colonial soldier is what inspired it. I never once, because of the fun reactions online, I never told her to deviate only because if people find that parallel and they like it, why not? There is a parallel in characters in terms of my goody-two-shoes nature not always sitting that great with wrestling fans. I can be the good guy, but they don’t have to cheer me, they can do whatever they’d like.”

Rhodes is known for his extravagant entrances. For an event the magnitude of Dynamite, it comes as little surprise that the former two-time TNT Champion went to great lengths to show out.

Now that he’s gone 0-2 against Black, Rhodes is seemingly left to start a new rivalry. Who that will be against remains to be seen. It was teased that Cody and Arn Anderson were beginning to have some problems during the rematch with Black. It’ll be interesting to see if it leads to Arn aligning himself with someone else.

Kenny Omega: WWE Is Desperate, AEW Turned The Tables

0

Kenny Omega believes AEW has caused WWE to hit the panic button.

AEW has achieved quite a bit for only being in existence since 2019. The rapid success of Dynamite led to AEW scoring a new deal with TNT and a second television show, Rampage. Now, Cody and Brandi Rhodes are set to premiere their reality show on the network.

The company has signed the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Cole. AEW sold out the United Center in Chicago and packed Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. They’ve been hitting over one million viewers consistently on Dynamite as well.

Not bad for a “pissant” company.

Of course, WWE has long been the Big Kahuna when it comes to the wrestling industry. Having been around for decades, the promotion is able to pull in higher total viewership numbers for Monday Night Raw and SmackDown.

With that said, Kenny Omega believes the gap has been closing quickly. Here’s what the AEW World Heavyweight Champion told Tokyo Sports.

“At the start, there was a huge gap between WWE and AEW. (AEW) was just some fledgling promotion after all. But have you realized how the tables have turned? WWE is desperate. They keep bringing back legends every other week. COVID is a terrible thing, and we never wanted it to happen but it is what it is.”

There was a huge down period for the wrestling industry when it came to COVID-19. Many people wondered about the future of AEW since it was a newer promotion. WWE was certainly better equipped to ride out the pandemic but AEW managed to pull through and is thriving now more than ever.

Whether you’re solely an AEW fan or a WWE fan, most can agree that competition benefits the customer. Time will tell just how far AEW can keep going.

The Miz Explains Why He Stayed On TV Despite Torn MCL

0

The Miz has detailed why he was able to stay on WWE TV despite a torn MCL.

For years, WWE has relied on The Miz to play any role they wish for him to do. Whether it’s as WWE Champion or as a goofy midcarder, The Miz has been a team player since his arrival on the main roster back in 2006.

The Miz has also been able to stay relatively healthy throughout his career. In a Zombie lumberjack match of all things, he ended up tearing his MCL. While many expected him to miss a substantial amount of time, The Miz remained on WWE TV in a non-wrestling role.

During an appearance on Off The Vine, the former two-time WWE Champion explained how he managed to avoid time off.

“My first major injury was about twelve weeks ago when I tore my MCL. I didn’t have surgery. It was partially torn, but I had to sit out. It was the first time I had to actually take time off, but I didn’t. The doctor was like, ‘you can still be on the program, you can’t do much, you can have crutches or a wheelchair.’ I was like, ‘I will take a wheelchair and John [Morrison], my tag team partner will roll me around in it. I don’t want to have to do anything. Honestly, it created for great content.”

The Miz ended up turning his back on John Morrison but plans for the feud have been halted. That’s because The Miz is a currently contestant on Dancing With The Stars. He was able to survive the first round.

Major ROH Name Set To Be Free Agent In Early 2022

0

A big name on the ROH roster will see his contract come to an end at the start of 2022.

That name is Rush, the former two-time ROH World Champion. Unfortunately for Rush, he’s dealing with an injury at the moment. He underwent surgery following a knee injury that he suffered during a tag team match. He is said to be out of action anywhere between 8-12 months.

During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Rush revealed that he will be a free agent in Jan. 2022.

“My contract expires in January. So far, we have not talked about a contract renewal. I am very grateful to ROH. I am also a man of challenges and goals, and I’m open to listening to everyone.”

Rush first captured the ROH gold back in Sept. 2019. He ended up losing the title to PCO but won it back in Feb. 2020. Rush would hold the championship for 498 days as ROH went dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once the company got the ball rolling again, Rush lost the title to Bandido at the Best in the World event inside Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena in Baltimore, Maryland back in July.

Stick with SEScoops for the latest on Rush’s future.
