WWE Draft Again Shows Brand Loyalty Is Not A Thing

0

WWE has pushed Survivor Series PPVs as a test of brand loyalty since the brand extension was reintroduced on TV many years ago. Raw and SmackDown talents were sorted through a Draft back in 2016. Since then, wrestlers are asked to put their differences aside once every year. Friends and foes work together against the competing brand for the bragging rights until the next competition.

The WWE Draft, however, proves how futile the narrative of brand supremacy is as most superstars don’t seem to mind ending up on the show they have competed against. The frailty of WWE’s brand warfare storylines is at display again ahead of the upcoming WWE Draft. If anything, stars seem to be excited over the coming changes and they are expressing this feeling through social media.

Former WWE champion Bobby Lashley has been part of Raw roster since his 2018 seems to be excited for a potential move to the blue brand. He wrote on Twitter that he’s been ‘running’ Raw for years, but it might be time to shake things up.

Drew McIntyre, who carried the Raw brand through the pandemic era, feels that he has worked with everyone he could on the red brand. He’s actually looking forward to fresh storylines. Angelo Dawkins isn’t afraid of ending up on a different brand even without his partner. He believes fans will get to see a new side of him if it happens.

The phenomenal one, AJ Styles, who became the face of SmackDown after the 2016 Draft and helped build it as the promotion’s A-show, is not too worried about which brand he would end up on. One-half of the current Raw tag team champion Matt Riddle on the other hand, seems more concerned about a possible split with his RK-Bro partner Randy Orton.

Even someone like Carmella, who has been a loyal soldier of the blue side since the brand extension returned, doesn’t seem that fond of her current home. Despite being is the only one left of the original SmackDown roster from 2016 who hasn’t changed sides, the former champion will not mind a move to the opposite brand during Draft.

See all the reactions yourself and decide how much weight would you put on the brand supremacy storyline when Survivor Series comes around this year:

The WWE Draft this year will begin on the October 1 edition of SmackDown. It will conclude on the October 4 episode of Raw.

Toni Storm & Juice Robinson

Storm recently returned to WWE Smackdown after being off TV for several weeks. She teamed with Liv Morgan and defeated Zelina Vega and Carmella by count-out on the 9/17 show from Knoxville, Tennessee. It was her first match since she defeated Zelina Vega in singles action on the 7/23 show from Cleveland, Ohio.

Robinson has been wrestling for NJPW of America and Impact Wrestling since the spring. The last time he was in Japan was on the New Japan Cup tour in March. He’s scheduled to be on Impact Wrestling next week as FinJuice will take on Bullet Club’s HIKULEO and Chris Bey. The winning team will challenge the Good Brothers for the Impact World Tag Team Championships at Bound For Glory on 10/23.

Top Star Departs Japan’s Stardom Women’s Promotion

0

A fan favorite who had competed under the Stardom banner since 2015 has left the company.

The star in question is Jungle Kyona. Stardom made the announcement earlier today.

“Jungle Kyona announced that she is leaving Stardom as of today. We’re happy for the next phase of her life! She gave us so many great matches and memories. Good luck, Kyona!”

The news comes as a surprise to fans who expected Jungle Kyona to make her return sometime this fall. She hasn’t been in the ring in a year due to multiple injuries. She suffered ligament ruptures and shoulder dislocation.

Stardom’s wording of Kyona’s exit is interesting. The company didn’t say that she is retiring from the wrestling industry and Jungle confirmed in a statement that she’ll continue to wrestle. It’ll be interesting to see if she stays in Japan or branches out.

Kyona was a popular member of the Tokyo Cyber Squad faction. With the passing of group leader Hana Kimura back in May 2020, TCS eventually disbanded. Konami, who was also a part of TCS, turned heel and joined Oedo Tai. Kyona remained a babyface.

SEScoops will keep you posted on the future of Jungle Kyona once more details become available.

Impact Results (9/30): Christopher Daniels vs Madman Fulton, Eddie Edwards vs W. Morrissey

Impact Wrestling on 9/30 featured the return of Christopher Daniels for the first time since 2014. It also saw Eddie Edwards face W. Morrissey in a main event street fight.

Impact 9/30 Quick Results:

  1. X Division Championship Match Qualifier
Trey Miguel defeated Alex Zayne & Laredo Kid
  2. Knockouts Tag Team Championship #1 Contendership
The Influence (Tenille Dashwood & Madison Rayne) (with Kaleb)  defeated Jordynne Grace & Rachael Ellering
  3. Christopher Daniels defeated Madman Fulton
  4. Street Fight
    Eddie Edwards defeated W. Morrissey

Trey Miguel Qualifies For Bound For Glory X-Division Title Match

With Josh Alexander having cashed in the X-Division title using Option C to face the World Champion at Bound For Glory, Scott D’Amore set up a tournament of sorts to crown a new champion. 3 triple threat matches will take place in the build up to the PPV, with the 3 winners meeting at BFG with the vacant title on the line.

Trey Miguel picked up the win here and qualified for the PPV by hitting a meteor on Laredo Kid.

Meanwhile, Drama King Matt was shown watching the match from the back. He would later cut a promo challenging Laredo Kid to a match.

The Influence Defeat Grace & Ellering, Advance To Knockouts Knockdown

Madison Rayne and Tenille Dashwood will move on to Knockouts Knockdown (October 9th) to take on the Knockouts Tag Team Champions, Havok & Rosemary. They defeated the former champions, Jordynne Grace and Rachael Ellering to earn that right this week.

The finish of the match saw Kaleb cause a distraction on the outside, which allowed Rayne and Dashwood to hit a double-team face slam on Ellering for the win.

Deonna Purrazzo Attacks Mickie James On Her Ranch

Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo traveled to Mickie James’ ranch this week and a massive brawl ensued. These two will meet at Bound For Glory but fought this week with rakes, water hoses, and various barn-related objects. Purrazzo got the upper hand in the melee.

Christopher Daniels Wrestles First Match In Impact Since 2014

After returning to the promotion last week, Christopher Daniels wrestled his first match for Impact since 2014 this week. He was up against Madman Fulton, who had a considerable size and strength advantage here. The story of the match was basically Daniels using his speed and skill to avoid the big man’s attacks.

Ace Austin attempted to get involved from the outside but this brought out Josh Alexander, who brawled with him to the back. This allowed Daniels to hit the Best Moonsault Ever on Fulton for the win.

Scott D’Amore would later book Ace Austin and Madman Fulton vs Christian Cage & Josh Alexander for next week.

Heath Returns, Attacks Violent By Design

Rhino was asked if he was with Violent By Design or against them after the recent dissension he’s shown with the faction. He wouldn’t give an answer this week, however. Instead, Heath returned from a long absence and brawled with the members of VOD. Meanwhile, Rhino didn’t get involved and gave no indication of which side he is on.

Digital Media Championship Is Introduced

Impact announced a new title belt this week. There will be a tournament to determine the 1st ever Impact Digital Media Champion. The first matches scheduled in the tournament are Zicky Dice vs John Skyler and Hernandez vs Crazzy Steve.

Eddie Edwards Defeats W. Morrissey, Attacked By Moose

After W. Morrissey power-bombed Alisha Edwards recently, Eddie Edwards has been on the war path to get revenge. In this week’s main event, he’d get a measure of revenge by picking up the win after delivering a barbed-wire chair assisted Boston Knee Party.

After the match, however, Moose hit the ring and speared Edwards through a table. Then Moose and W. Morrissey turned their attention to Alisha. They forced her to watch as they wrapped Eddie’s head in a chair and threw him into the steel post. Moose continued to hit Eddie with a chair before eventually him and Morrissey went to the back to close the show. The fans chanted for Eddie as the show went to black.

The Bella Twins Won’t Be Returning To The Ring After All

0

The Bella Twins have been hoping to wrestle for WWE again. Unfortunately, it won’t be happening any time soon, if ever.

Nikki and Brie appeared on the Sippin’ The Tea podcast this week and provided an update on their futures as in-ring performers. The show is hosted by former WWE Superstar Ariane Andrew & Matt Dillon.

Nikki said she would love to make a comeback one day so her son Matteo can see her compete. However, it might be several years before that becomes a reality.

“I would love one day, like when Matteo’s maybe three, and he knows it, to have my son be ringside while his mom kicks ass. That would be amazing to me.”

“But because he is my everything, I have to listen to the doctors and as of now, they’ve put me on the retired bench for life. So, it would take a lot of scans, x-rays, and all this different stuff for them to actually approve me to have a run and so that would be unlikely — that will be years down the road.”

Nikki Bella underwent spinal fusion surgery in 2016.

Bella Twins Have Moved Beyond Wrestling

Brie gave her thoughts on the situation. Pro wrestling was a huge part of their lives and they will always love the business. However, Brie feels she has moved beyond pro wrestling and is focusing on other ventures.

“For me, I just feel like I’m in such a different place in my life and a place I really love. We’re gonna be 38 in November and I’m like, you know too, for us to be winemakers and well, I can’t imagine taking a bump right now.”

The Bella Twins retired from active competition back in March 2019. They gave birth to baby boys just one day apart in August 2020.

Earlier this year, the Bellas said they wanted to make a run at the WWE Women’s tag titles. Those plans have now been put on hold indefinitely.

Chelsea Green Was More Angry Than Sad Following WWE Release

0

Chelsea Green got resourceful she was released by WWE earlier this year. During an appearance on Busted Open Radio this week, she detailed her initial reaction to the news.

Green was caught off guard when WWE let her go. She had been medically cleared to wrestle and would show up to TV tapings hoping to be utilized. She pitched ideas to WWE creative, but they were not used.

“I had no clue,” she said of her release. “I think my initial reaction was that I had no reaction and I just got down to business. I opened up my Pro Wrestling Tees store, then contacted Ring of Honor, NWA, and Impact and stuff. But then later on, slowly as time has gone by, it’s been one of – I just think it was a missed opportunity.”

She added that she was a little upset about WWE releasing her, but she’s more “pissed” than sad. She felt she was at the top of her game and is motivated to show the wrestling world what she can do.

Since leaving WWE in April, Green has worked for Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor.

Dante Chen On When He Found Out About His NXT Debut

0

Singapore’s Dante Chen did not know that he will be making his debut on WWE TV or who his opponent is going to be hours before it happened. The NXT 2.0 star recently had an interview with Yahoo News Singapore. The 25-year-old talked about the reaction he received after his debut and more.

Revealing when he found out that he would be making his debut for the brand, Chen said that he didn’t know that he was scheduled to compete until the day of the show:

“I didn’t even know that I was scheduled to compete, or even who my opponent will be, until the very day itself, I was asked to be at the arena at 11am, and a couple of hours later, I was told that I would be making my debut facing Trey. There were only a couple more hours to prepare by then.

Dante Chen made his official WWE debut during the September 21 episode of NXT 2.0. He faced Trey Baxter and defeated the fellow NXT star in his first match. Apart from this, Chen also discussed things such as his training routine, getting inputs from people like Shawn Michaels and Triple H, and more. You can find his interview here.

Dynamite Viewership For TNT Title Main Event, 18-49 Demo Rating Compared To Raw

0

This Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite without an announced Bryan Danielson match saw a big decline in the viewership numbers, though it still stayed above a million.

The show featuring the TNT championship match between Miro and Sammy Guevara for the main event drew a total of 1.152 million viewers according to Showbuzz daily.

This is a 9.50% decline from last week’s episode of Dynamite. The episode with the much-hyped Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega match for an opener among others had drawn 1.273 million viewers.

The show drew a 0.45 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It’s a 6.25% decline from last week’s 0.48 rating. A 0.45 rating represents around 588,000 viewers of the age group.

Monday’s episode of Raw in comparison had drawn 1.709 million viewers. The show did a 0.48 rating in the 18-49 demo. It represents 625,000 viewers of the 18-49 age group for the Big E vs. Bobby Lashley WWE championship steel cage main event.

AEW’s weekly show managed to rank #1 in the Cable Top 150 for the sixth week in a row thanks to the 0.45 rating. Dynamite ranked #29 in viewership for the night, down from last week’s #22 ranking.

The promotion has announced Bobby Fish’s AEW debut and a Casino Ladder match among other things for next week’s episode of Dynamite. You can check out the card for the show below:

Bobby Fish Speaks On TNT Title Match With Sammy Guevara

0

Bobby Fish has spoken out on his upcoming TNT Championship match with Sammy Guevara.

Guevara closed out the Sept. 29 edition of AEW Dynamite by capturing the TNT Championship. He pinned Miro with a 630 Senton Splash to lay claim to the gold. This is his first singles title run in AEW.

After the match, Fish hopped on his Twitter account to congratulate the newly-crowned TNT Champion. He also laid down a challenge, which was accepted by Guevara during a commercial break on the debut episode of Rhodes To The Top.

Appearing on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Bobby Fish commented on the title match.

“I’m at home watching AEW, just like everybody else, and I see this thing go down and I’m thinking, ‘fortune favors the bold.’ That title and this mustache would look pretty fantastic together. I can either sit on my hands and do nothing or I can put my name in the ring, so to speak, and see what happens. That’s what I did. I feel like I was ready in my career for a ‘fresh coat of paint,’ so to speak and here we are. It wasn’t orchestrated and I didn’t seek it out. Things feel into place and it happened. I have this new lease on my wrestling life and I can’t wait to go at this thing guns blazing.”

Fish was one of many names released by WWE from the NXT roster. It didn’t take long for Fish to find at least one landing spot as he is set to make his debut for MLW on Oct. 2.

Guevara vs. Fish will take place on the Oct. 6 edition of AEW Dynamite. AEW is wasting little time making Guevara’s first title defense.

Also set for that episode of Dynamite will be The Elite vs. Bryan Danielson, Christian Cage, and Jurassic Express. Plus, Hikaru Shida is going for her 50th win in AEW when she meets Serena Deeb. Fans will also witness a Casino Ladder Match with the winner earning a shot at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.

WWE Status Update On Alexa Bliss And Sheamus

0

Alexa Bliss and Sheamus are expected to remain off television for the foreseeable future.

Alexa Bliss was written out of storylines at Extreme Rules this past weekend. She unsuccessfully challenged Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte at the PPV. After the match, Flair destroyed her beloved doll, Lily. Bliss freaked out after seeing her doll being shred to pieces. She did not appear on Raw the following night. According to PWinsider, WWE ran the angle because Bliss is scheduled to undergo sinus surgery.

Sheamus’ absence is also due to nose surgery. His procedure took place on Wednesday and provided these updates on Twitter:

The Celtic Warrior is not expected to take part in the upcoming WWE Draft, which kicks off Friday on SmackDown and concludes at Raw next week. Sheamus is coming off two consecutive losses against United States Champion Damien Priest at Extreme Rules and Raw the following night.

Braun Strowman Reveals How He Got His Big Break In WWE

0

Braun Strowman has mostly been quiet and away from the media since his WWE release. He opened up about his run with the company for the first time since his contract was terminated recently.

The former Universal champion appeared on Virtual Gimmick Table show from Highspots Wrestling Network. The Monster Among Men described the chaotic lifestyle of being a WWE Superstar.

“It’s kind of cool to have the opportunity just to do stuff,” said Strowman, “I was very fortunate in my time with WWE but it was very, very time-consuming. I didn’t have a lot of time to do other things. So now, during my downtime, when I’m trying to figure out what I wanna do when I grow up, I get an opportunity to go out and, you know, explore different avenues. Try different things. I’m enjoying it.”

Strowman is making the most of his time as a free agent, but he does get the itch to lace up his boots once again.

“I definitely miss being in the squared circle though,” he said. “I promise you that.”

Strowman’s Big Break

Braun Strowman Rosebud
Braun Strowman made appearances as a ‘rosebud’ before becoming famous

Braun Strowman also opened up about the time he worked as one of Adam Rose’s “Rosebuds” and how it led to him getting a bigger break in the company.

“I was a Rosebud,” he said. “That’s what got me seen, Vince himself saw me doing the Rosebud gimmick, he goes, ‘Why is this guy doing this?'”

He’d go on to debut with the Wyatt Family in August of 2015. During his 6-year run the main roster, he’d become Universal Champion and achieve countless other accolades.

WWE released Strowman back on June 2nd. He has already become a free agent. While the former Wyatt Family member has not provided a lot of updates on his future, reports suggest Impact Wrestling as the most likely landing spot for the heavyweight star.

Roderick Strong Confirms Marina Shafir Involvement in Diamond Mine

0

NXT 2.0 Cruiserweight Champion Rodderick Strong says his wife, former MMA fighter Marina Shafir, was originally slated to be part of his Diamond Mine faction.

In an interview with Meep Meep Podcast host Ryan Rainbro, Strong revealed that he had Diamond Mine rash guards made for Shafir. He also confirmed that NXT originally wanted both Shafir and Arturo Ruas were going to be in the faction.

“…It was sad because I got my wife one and Adrian(Arturo Ruas) one and it didn’t end up working out,” Strong said. He continued, “Things happened the way they did, but at least it’s something they can remember and use.”

Diamond Mine Faction Members

The faction Diamond Mine had gone through changes even before debuting on June 22nd. As revealed by Strong, NXT planned for Shafir, and Ruas to be in the group. However, WWE released Shafir and Ruas on June 25th.

While Shafir hasn’t spoken about it, Ruas confirmed that he was going to be in the faction. In an interview with Wrestling Inc Managing Editor Nick Hausman, Ruas shared NXT wanted him in the group after he recovered from bicep surgery.

“… I got cleared, and everything started to run again,” said Ruas. He continued, “That’s where Diamond Mine came up. It would be a group of legit fighters with legit backgrounds.” Both Shafir and Ruas are still free agents.

The Diamond Mine faction debuted with Strong, Tyler Rust, Hachiman, and Malcolm Bivens as the manager. Rust exited the group after WWE released him on August 6th. Since Rust’s release, Diamond Mine gained three new members.

The Faction Successful Start

The Diamond Mine has been featured prominently in NXT 2.0 weekly for the last two months. Strong defeated Kushida for the NXT 2.0 Cruiserweight Championship on the September 21st episode. In this week’s NXT 2.0 episode, He successfully defended the title against Grayson Waller. The other members of the group, The Creed Brothers, Hachiman, and Ivynile have yet to lose a match.

Legend Returns At AEW Tapings (Spoiler)

0

Jake “The Snake” Roberts is back in AEW. The pro wrestling legend has been off television for over a month. Roberts recently had foot surgery, as first reported by Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net.

“The Murderhawk Monster” Lance Archer has been without his mentor. That all changed this week at a taping of AEW Dark: Elevation. Roberts once again accompanied Archer to the ring, reuniting one of AEW’s most dangerous pairings.

Here’s what Roberts had to say about his return on Twitter:

Jake Roberts in AEW

At Wednesday’s AEW TV tapings from Rochester, NY, Archer won a quick squash match over a local talent in a match taped for Dark: Elevation. He wore a Brodie Lee wristband to honor the former leader of the Dark Order.

This episode of Elevation will air on YouTube on Oct. 4.

Jake Roberts, Lance Archer

Now that Jake “The Snake” has made his return, it’ll be interesting to see what’s in store for him and Archer going forward. Archer is coming off a loss in a Lights Out tag team match with Minoru Suzuki on Rampage. The two were defeated by Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston thanks to interference from Homicide.

CM Punk On When He Started To Consider A Return To Wrestling

0

CM Punk was recently a guest on the AEW Unrestricted podcast and spoke about a variety of topics. Early in the discussion, Tony Schiavone asked Punk when he started to consider a return to pro-wrestling.

“At some point when I was free and clear of all the fugazi lawsuits that people filed against me,” Punk responded. “I think there is a point where that stops and I’m free and clear and I’m like ‘sweet’ and I think that the healing can begin and it kind of coincided with the rise of AEW.”

In June of 2018, CM Punk and Colt Cabana won a civil trial, successfully defending themselves from a defamation claim stemming from Punk’s appearance on Cobana’s podcast in 2014. The lawsuit was filed by WWE doctor Chris Amann, who said that Punk had defamed him on the show. Unfortunately, Punk and Cabana then ended up in a legal battle over attorney fees from that trial. They settled with each other in 2019.

Punk also noted that the Brodie Lee tribute show played a pivotal role in him deciding to sign with AEW.

“The Brody tribute show and the way the Brody stuff was handled was just so classy and not what I’m used to. So, it made me raise an eyebrow,” Punk continued.

CM Punk On Joining AEW

Punk also spoke about his debut being the “worst kept secret” and also that he didn’t actually sign his AEW contract until minutes before his debut.

“I feel like we got the best of both worlds. I feel like it was maybe leaked or somebody found out, but there was still a giant question mark or a cloud of mystery over it.”

Punk also noted that he did not actually sign with AEW until the night he debuted.

“I read a report that I had signed, I never signed my contract until I was in the United Center maybe 90 or 30 minutes before I walked out,” Punk said. He joked that if he was a “carny guy” he could have gone to the “other Khan” and asked for money not to go to AEW.

“Props to Tony Khan because I don’t know anyone else who would do handshake deals like that. I wasn’t signed, and he had (Tony Schiavone) go out there and announce the United Center.”

Update On Shane McMahon’s Status With WWE

0

WWE legend Shane McMahon is rarely seen on television these days. He last competed at WrestleMania 37, losing to Braun Strowman in a steel cage match.

According to a report from Fightful, McMahon remains under contract with WWE. He does not have an active role in management, but instead is considered on-air talent. Sources at WWE headquarters indicate that he’s rarely seen around WWE offices anymore.

Aside from his work with WWE over the years, Shane McMahon has been successful outside the realm of professional wrestling. Former WWE Superstar The Godfather recently revealed that Shane McMahon has a cannabis co-op business based out of California.

Why Did Shane McMahon Leave WWE In 2009?

Shane McMahon appeared on WWE’s After the Bell podcast last fall and spoke about his decision to leave WWE in 2009. He’d later return in 2016, ending a 7-year hiatus.

“So I kind of really came out of the business for my boys, my kids, and it’s also the reason I really came back,” McMahon told Corey Graves. “I always had a longing for it. It’s in my blood, literally.”

He went on to say that his sons encouraged him to get back into wrestling.

“This goes back to WrestleMania 32 with Undertaker in Hell in a Cell. My boys have been saying to me prior to that for a couple years like, ‘Hey dad, you ever think about getting back in there?’ Because my sons never saw me live and they really saw me via DVD or YouTube or things like that.”

Eric Bischoff Gives His Thoughts On AEW Beating Raw In 18-49 Demo

0

AEW has made big strides with television viewership over the past several weeks. AEW Dynamite has been surging, even topping WWE Raw in the 18-49 demographic on a few occasions. Dynamite vs. Raw is not an apples-to-apples comparison. The shows air on different nights, but AEW’s momentum is undeniable.

Eric Bischoff knows a thing or two about competing with WWE. The former WCW President addressed Dynamite beating Raw on the latest episode of his 83 Weeks podcast.

While fans like to analyze and debate the ratings trends, Bischoff says the opinions of TV executives and advertisers are the ones that matter.

“I think if you’re an executive in a media buying company or advertising agency, I think [the 18-49 demographic] matters, to the rest of the world, it doesn’t mean two sh**s.”

Fighting Mike Tyson’s Kid

Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson at AEW Dynamite

Bischoff then discussed how AEW had no competition on the nights it beat Raw in ratings, while Raw was up against Monday Night Football.

“AEW on Wednesday night with no real competition for 18-49 gets a higher percentage of a demo than Monday Night RAW going head-to-head with Monday Night Football, where the vast majority of the 18-49 year olds that watch wrestling also watch football.

It’s like me getting into a fistfight with Mike Tyson’s kid and coming out on top of that. I’m just making this up, and if he did or he does, and I were to mop the floor with that 16-18 year old kid, that’s like me walking around saying I beat the sh** out of Tyson.”

Eric Bischoff also talked about the Wednesday night wars between Dynamite and NXT. He explained how it wasn’t really a fair competition as it was AEW’s best lineup going up against the development squad of WWE.

He also mentioned how people who were very excited to compare the ratings of Dynamite and NXT do not compare the ratings of Rampage to SmackDown which is a more direct comparison because they are on the same night.

AEW EVP’s Less Involved With Creative Plans (Report)

0

AEW has seen a shift in duties behind the scenes. According to a report Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net, the company’s Executive Vice Presidents have been less involved in the creative aspect of operations.

Sources within the Jacksonville-based promotion indicated that AEW President Tony Khan has taken an even greater role in crafting storylines and angles. While talents are encouraged to pitch ideas and give suggestions, it ultimately comes down to Khan, and “creative is absolutely Tony Khan’s prerogative now.”

It’s unclear when this transition happened but the report notes that at one point, Cody Rhodes was the only EVP who regularly attended office meetings. Though now his office role, as well as his creative input, has ‘greatly diminished.’

Matt Jackson’s EVP role has been assisting his wife Dana with merchandise while Nick Jackson is focused on handling Being The Elite.  Kenny Omega is focusing on the gaming side of things. He is very hands-on with the upcoming AEW Game. Although Kenny still helps put together the women’s matches.

After these changes, members of The Elite do not have the final say in the creative or hiring talents anymore and they are basically ‘EVPs in name only’ now.

Cody’s relationship with other EVPs appears to have been affected as well.  Per sources, “Cody doesn’t really have much of a relationship with any of the EVPs, anymore. The others are still great friends, but Cody is very much on the outside looking in.”

This isn’t the first time we are hearing about in-fighting among the EVPs. It was reported earlier this year that some AEW EVPs were no longer on talking terms. Though at the time the Young Bucks had tried to dispute the news by joking about it.

Bobby Fish, Casino Ladder Match Set For Dynamite Next Week

0

The new TNT champion Sammy Guevara has accepted the challenge from Bobby Fish for a title match at next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. The Spanish God defeated Miro to win the TNT title in the main event of this week’s episode of Dynamite. The former NXT star took on his Twitter to congratulate the new champion.

Bobby Fish went on to express the desire to be the first star to challenge Sammy Guevara, mentioning that he is ready to walk through the forbidden door. Guevara appeared during a commercial break of the Rhodes To The Top premiere. He spoke with Tony Schiavone and confirmed that he is accepting the challenge from the former Undisputed Era member.

AEW also announced a big #1 contenders’ casino ladder match for Dynamite next week. The winner will get a shot at Kenny Omega’s world title in the future. The participants for the bout have not been revealed.

Hikaru Shida will be fighting on the show as well. She will try to pick up her 50th win in AEW against Serena Deeb.

If this wasn’t enough, the company has confirmed that Bryan Danielson will also be in action during the show. He will compete in a 6 men tag team match. Danielson will team up with the Jurassic Express and Christian Cage to face the team of Omega, Adam Cole, and The Young Bucks. Prior to this, Bryan will be facing Nick Jackson in a singles match on Rampage this Friday.

Bryan Danielson Match, Hair vs. Hair Bout Announced For Rampage

0

AEW has announced a singles match for Bryan Danielson and a hair vs. hair bout among others for this Friday’s episode of Rampage. After their match on last week’s episode of Dynamite ended in a time limit draw, Danielson tried to get a rematch with the AEW champion Kenny Omega on this Wednesday’s episode of the show.

However, when Omega continued to deny a rematch to the former WWE star, Danielson offered to face any of the other members of the Elite on Rampage. The company later announced that Nick Jackson of the Young Bucks has accepted this challenge. He will be facing the former world champion in a singles match on Friday.

A triple threat match among Jade Cargill, Thunder Rosa, and Nyla Rose was also announced for Rampage during the night. Though this isn’t all. The promotion has previously confirmed that Orange Cassidy will be facing TH2’s Jack Evans in a hair vs. hair match at this Friday’s episode of the show.

Sammy Guevara Pays Tribute To Brodie Lee After Dynamite Goes Off Air

0

Sammy Guevara fulfilled his promise and defeated God’s favorite champion, Miro, for the TNT championship in the main event of tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite. The Wednesday night show this week took place from the hometown of Brodie Lee in Rochester, New York. Tony Khan had previously announced that the episode will be dedicated to the memory of the former TNT champion.

Guevara also paid tribute to the late star after the show went off air. He addressed the crowd saying his goal now is to become one of the best TNT champions there ever was:

“For every kid who is out there with a dream of something you wanna do, all you gotta do is believe in yourself and work hard. Now my goal is to be one of the best TNT champions there ever was, but Rochester, I gotta be honest with you, we know who the real greatest TNT champion was.”

The crowd started chanting Brodie’s name after this. Acknowledging it, Sammy Guevara mentioned how he will never be able to fill the shoes left behind by Lee. He then called the TNT title the greatest championship in pro wrestling:

“I will never be able to fill the shoes that you left behind, I mean, you had some big ass feet. But I’m going to do my damnedest and work as hard as I can and carry this title with pride.” said the new champion, “No offense to Kenny’s belt, but this is the greatest title in professional wrestling!”

Sammy then told the production crew to not play his music. He instead asked the people in attendance to send him out with a Brodie chant which the crowd did. You can check out the complete Dynamite results below:

Sammy Guevara beat Miro in the main event of this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite to become the fifth TNT champion in the history of the title.

AEW had announced a title match for this week’s show after the former WWE star had a confrontation with the Spanish God on the September 17 episode of Rampage.

The match took place in the main event of this week’s episode of Dynamite. Miro dominated the early stages of the bout and he kept Guevara down.

The ending of this bout saw the champion ripping off the pads from the top turnbuckle of all four corners. However, before he could use the exposed turnbuckle to his advantage, Fuego Del Sol got up on the apron.

Miro punched Fuego off the apron but this gave Sammy Guevara an opportunity. He sent the champion face first in the turnbuckle with a knee strike.

The challenger then delivered a tornado DDT and followed it up with a GTH. Sammy finally got to the top rope and delivered a 630 santon on Miro to cover him for the pin.

This ends Miro’s 140 day long run with the TNT championship. He had won the title from Darby Allin during the May 12 episode of Dynamite earlier this year.

MJF and Wardlow came to the ring and MJF brought up Tony Khan. MJF said he has Bruce Prichard on speed dial if Tony doesn’t start giving him the opportunities he deserves. MJF added that out of all the Khans in professional wrestling, Tony is easily in his top two.

Darby Allin interrupted and MJF joked that he digs the whole “school shooter mime on a skateboard routine” and the crowd gasped (thankfully some laughed too). MJF referred to Sting as great #2 guy and Darby is the same. Allin told MJF to leave and joked that he is the only champion the ring.

MJF brought up that Darby is straight edge because his uncle died in a drunk driving accident while Allin was in the car. MJF shouted that the wrong man died and dared Allin to hit him. Cody Rhodes On Who He Wants To Face Most Between CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, & Adam Cole

0

Cody Rhodes was interviewed by ESPN ahead of tonight’s big Dynamite event from Rochester, New York. During the interview, Rhodes was asked who out of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Cole he is most interested in facing in AEW.

“Adam Cole,” Rhodes answered without hesitation. “It’s an easy question for me to answer in terms of I feel Adam Cole is very well known by the hardcore wrestling audience and, of course, fans of the Elite and Bullet Club and that entire portion of this revolution. But I also think that casual fans or lapsed fans or just new fans have only seen just the tip of the iceberg of what he’s capable of.”

“I know Bryan Danielson is one of the best in the world, I know CM Punk even after a 7-year absence is one of the best in the world. They’re helping pull this wagon already and they’ve only been here a few days. Adam Cole gets to show a whole new audience and gets to interact and create a whole new brand for himself just because he has such a large platform to do it with AEW. He’s the one I’m most excited about getting in the ring with when and if that challenge presents itself.”

Cody Rhodes vs Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Adam Cole

Cody Rhodes and CM Punk shared the ring together often in WWE and OVW. They twice wrestled singles matches against each other on WWE’s main roster. Punk defeated Rhodes on the 9/22 RAW in 2008. Rhodes then defeated Punk via count-out later that year on the 12/19 RAW.

Rhodes also shared the ring with Bryan Danielson often while they were both in WWE. Including house shows, they wrestled each other in 15 singles matches from 2011-13. Rhodes leads their all-time series 8-7.

Adam Cole and Cody Rhodes teamed together on 4 occasions as members of Bullet Club, with all four matches taking place in Ring of Honor. Their only singles match against each other was on 5/26 in 2017 at a show for NorthEast Wrestling. Rhodes won and defended the NEW Heavyweight title successfully against Cole on that show.

Brian Cage Discusses AEW’s Creative Process

0

Brian Cage recently appeared on Dan and Don’s Toxic Masculinity Podcast with Don Frye and Dan Severn. During the discussion, Cage said that Tony Khan is taking on the vast majority of the creative responsibilities in AEW.

“Creative team? No. It’s just Tony. Tony Khan who owns it [AEW] and he does so much anyway already, it’s literally just all him,” Cage said on the show (transcriptions via POST Wrestling). “He’ll have some help or input from other guys and some of the EVPs that you know helped start it like The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes. They kind of help do their own stuff.”

Cage continued to say that Khan has the final and often only say on the majority of the product.

“Tony pretty much has the final and only say on majority of the entire product which is a little nuts. I do think that it could benefit with some of the people helping out on that.”

Cage also said that Tony Khan is always up for discussing creative ideas, something he doesn’t believe happens elsewhere. He also said the backstage environment in AEW “far exceeds” anywhere else he’s been. Cage also praised the way the company handles the laying out of matches.

“They don’t micromanage anything…it’s pretty easy going in that regard.”

Brian Cage clarifies Comments

Brian Cage took to Twitter to clarify that he was not speaking poorly of AEW’s creative process, just that Tony Khan takes on a lot of work with it.

“He could benefit from sharing some responsibility as in it’d take some weight off his shoulders, smh. I get enjoying it and wanting to over see everything, it’s just a lot of work for any one person, without other obligation on top of it. But didn’t say anything negative. Damn,” he Tweeted.

Cage hasn’t wrestled since September 1st. It was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he is currently dealing with his knees flaring up after a stem cell treatment.
