Hikaru Shida Teases New Look After AEW Title Loss

0

Sometimes you need to change things up a bit. A fresh look or a new attitude can change the fortunes of a wrestler. In a cryptic, yet revealing social media post, AEW star Hikaru Shida has hinted at just that.

Posting an image of cut hair on a salon floor with the simple caption ‘Restart’.

Hikaru Shida was the AEW women’s champion for just over a year. The longest reign in the entire AEW promotion so far. Dr Britt Baker dethroned the Japanese star at the recent Double or Nothing PPV. The loss clearly had an effect on Shida, prompting her to make a drastic change.

It’s unlikely that this will signify a heel turn for the star, with Baker filling that dominant heel role for now. However, a change in attitude might be what is needed for Shida to reclaim her title.

There is only one belt for the packed female roster in AEW right now. Hikaru Shida is a fan favourite and has a star power draw. However, after recent segments on Dynamite, it looks as if Baker is set for a feud with Nyla Rose.

Whatever the creative plans at AEW, it is clear that Hikaru Shida has a big role to play still. It will be interesting to see how she copes with the loss of her title, and where she goes from here.

Details Emerge On Andrade’s Creative Control at AEW

0

Seeing Andrade El Idolo in an AEW ring was something fans were calling for since his WWE release. Andrade has been much talked about since his WWE release, many expected him to return to Mexico.

With AEW confirming his signing the same night as his appearance, the arrival of El Idolo is certainly a shake-up for the already stacked roster. Things are shaping up nicely for AEW ahead of their show expansion in a few months.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CPvdYhUHgLR//

Since then, details have emerged about the contract negotiations that took place ahead of Andrade signing.

Possibly driven by frustrations spilling over from his previous employment, Andrade insisted on having creative control over his matches. Including the ability to veto losses.

According to Wrestling Inc’s Raj Giri, AEW started negotiating with Andrade the week following his release. However, it took a while to iron out. Sources claim that the final details give El Idolo a modicum of creative control over his match finishes.

With a host of promotions showing interest in signing Andrade, business pressure surely swayed things in his favor. IMPACT was willing to give the control but only on a per appearance basis, while ROH was also sniffing at making a play for the Mexican star.

Update: SEScoops has learned that reports of Andrade having any sort of “creative control” in AEW are incorrect. We apologize for this error.

A match against current AAA Mega Champion (and current AEW and IMPACT champion) Kenny Omega already set for Triplemania. This means a feud could easily be set for all three belts should all companies be willing to work together.

In signing Andrade El Idolo, AEW are the ultimate winners. It will be interesting to see how Andrade settles, and who he sets his sights on first.

Matt Cardona Attacks Nick Gage at GCW Zombie Walk

0

Well, you can now add Matt Cardona’s name to the list of people who want a piece of Nick Gage. Cardona stunned the crowd at the recent GCW Zombie Walk show, attacking Gage after the match. What made the altercation even more interesting is how it all transpired.

Matt Cardona came to the ring, covered from head to toe and gave the crowd his best Moxley swagger. Hitting Gage with a paradigm shift before removing his mask. The nod to Mox is understandable give the feud running between Mox and Gage. However, it does make you wonder if there is something else running.

With the recent news of show titles such as Battle of the Belts being trademarked by AEW, the concept of cross-promotion fights is interesting. The crowd certainly went wild, both when they assumed it was Mox in the ring, and after Matt Cardona unmasked himself.

A hardcore promotion like GCW might not be the place you instantly think of when discussing Matt Cardona. Yet, it seems as if this is something legit. Cardona took to Twitter after his appearance to share some thoughts before calling out Nick Gage from a steakhouse.

You would be hard pushed to find any bigger wrestling fan than Matt Cardona. He lives and breathes the business. Should a match go down between him and Gage, or him, Gage and Moxley, it will be a headline event. This looks likely, especially given how Cardona picked up the GCW title belt and held it aloft.

The Miz Comments On Zombie Attack At WrestleMania Backlash

0

The Miz was the victim of a zombie attack at WrestleMania Backlash. His lumberjack match with Damian Priest on the show involved an interesting promotion for Netflix’s Army of the Dead movie starring Dave Bautista. The zombie involvement drew some criticism from fans.

Miz was recently interviewed by Forbes and spoke about the zombie involvement at WrestleMania Backlash.

“I had a blast with it,” said Miz about the match.

“I always enjoy whenever there’s something different and something out of the box, and whenever there’s something like that, I wanna be a part of it because you never know what’s going to happen. You never know if it’s gonna be a success or if it’s gonna be a failure. People were different, people were 50/50 ‘oh we can’t stand this match,’ or ‘oh my God this is a great match, it’s kind of funny, it’s kind of interesting,’ so I just look at it like ‘I’m gonna do the best I possibly can and give the match that hopefully everyone wants and deserves.”

The Army of the Dead movie currently holds a 69% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The plot involves Bautista’s character organizing a team to enter a quarantined and zombie-infected city of Las Vegas. Bautista also Tweeted about the zombie involvement at WrestleMania Backlash.

Konnan Comments On Identifying & Cultivating Talent In Wrestling

0

Konnan has been helping provide wrestlers with opportunities for decades in professional wrestling. Many talent currently enjoying success in the business today first had their talents recognized and promoted by him. Konnan recently spoke to SI.com about his role in the industry.

“I really love what I do,” Konnan said. “Identifying and cultivating talent, that is so much of what drives me. Look at someone like Franky Monet. Seeing her 10-year journey, and being along for that, it’s incredible. I’m so happy for her.”

The former Taya Valkyrie now known as Franky Monet in NXT was a big star for Konnan in AAA beginning in 2012. Valkyrie was a long-standing Reina de Reinas Champion in the promotion. She’d also work with Konnan in Impact Wrestling before signing with WWE earlier this year.

“I love what I do. When I’m working with these kids, I know I’m seeing them take these steps to greatness.”

Konnan on Santana & Ortiz

Konnan also spent some time during the interview discussing Santana and Ortiz. The current members of the Inner Circle were managed for a longtime in Impact Wrestling by Konnan.

“I’ve loved those guys since I met them,” Konnan says. “I call them my lucha sons, and I am incredibly proud of them. They have put in so much work to get to where they are. And they never forgot about me, so that meant a lot to me.”

Konnan on TripleMania and Kenny Omega vs Andrade

AAA has a big card coming up this summer. Triplemanía XXIX  features several big matches including: Psycho Clown vs Rey Escorpion (Mask vs Hair), Kenny Omega defending the AAA Mega Championship against Andrade, and Faby Apache vs Deonna Purrazzo in a Reina de Reinas vs Knockouts title for title match.

“We’ve got so much attention for this show from the United States, but AAA is going through litigation and may not be able to show it here,” Konnan said of the show. “We’re so proud to have this match, this dream match, and it’s a match that will live up to the expectations.”

AAA is being sued by Lucha Libre FMV who allege they have the rights to market the promotion in the United States.

“Plus, we’ll have Deonna Purrazzo and Faby Apache in a title vs. title match, and our most popular wrestler, Psycho Clown, putting his mask on the line against Rey Escorpión, which is a feud that has been building over three years. I’m hoping, between now and August, something changes and this card will be seen in the United States.”

Red Velvet Provides Update After Scary Spot On Dynamite

0

Red Velvet defeated The Bunny on AEW Dynamite on Friday night. During the match, however, she landed badly on a suicide dive spot to the outside. Although she popped up immediately after, many fans were concerned that the wrestler hailing from “Straight outta yo momma’s kitchen” was injured.

Velvet took to Twitter last night to say that she is fine and to thank those that had been checking up on her.

Red Velvet In AEW

Velvet is coming up on her 1-year anniversary in AEW. Her first match occurred on Dark on June 10th, 2020. She teamed with Kenzie Paige and was defeated by Brandi Rhodes and the Bunny/Allie. Velvet wouldn’t get her first win until October, but then things really turned around for her in terms of wins and losses. She went on a major win streak from mid-November until early March. Then she teamed with Cody Rhodes and lost to Jade Cargill and Shaquille O’Neal at Crossroads.

Red Velvet was officially signed to the promotion a few weeks after the mixed tag match with Cody against Shaq and Cargill. Cody Rhodes took to Twitter to announce that Velvet’s contract had been upgraded.

Velvet also recently celebrated her 29th birthday.

Billy Corgan Wants To Book Cody Rhodes vs Nick Aldis III

0

The NWA presents When Our Shadows Fall on PPV today at 4 PM est. Ahead of the show, Billy Corgan appeared on Busted Open Radio this week and spoke about a possible trilogy bout between Cody Rhodes and Nick Aldis. Corgan said he’s pitched the idea to AEW President Tony Khan.

“I’ve pitched it to Tony [Khan] a few times [Nick Aldis coming over to AEW]. It’s Tony’s world, I respect him for what he’s building. But yeah, look, I’ll say it again, Nick [Aldis] versus Cody Rhodes for a third time. I mean, that is an epic, epic matchup waiting to happen,” Corgan said (transcriptions via Post Wrestling).

Rhodes defeated Aldis at the All In show on September 1st, 2018. Aldis then regained the title at the NWA 70th Anniversary show on October 21st, 2018.

“I saw it happen twice in front of my own eyes and when you combine Cody with the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship and that history,” Corgan continued. “I’m sorry, I saw a look on Cody’s face that I’ve only seen when he was fighting for that title, because you can’t tell me that history does not mean something to him.”

The NWA World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line at When Our Shadows Fall. Aldis will defend against Trevor Murdoch, who earned the title shot by winning a battle royal on Powerrr.

“I mean, his father’s nickname is tattooed across his chest for a reason and when your dad’s Dusty Rhodes, I mean, I’m sorry. I get goosebumps just talking about the dang thing, so I hope we see Cody and Nick down the road at some point because that to me, it’s just like, it’s just waiting. It’s just waiting,” Corgan concluded.

0

Nikki Bella on Released Superstars

“Mickie James you are an icon” Bella added. “I always hoped to have had a badass storyline with you. I know we could have created magic. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, goodness our future wrote itself, Brie and I were dreaming of fighting for the tag titles against the both of you. You two were a magic duo!”

Nikki Bella then finished by praising Lana and Chelsea Green. “Lana you shined in and out of that ring, loved our Total Divas days and traveling the world together. So many amazing laughs and memories!”

It’s not confirmed at this time when Nikki and Brie intend on returning to the ring themselves. The twins recently gave birth, with Nikki becoming a mother for the first time. Braun Strowman Writes Cryptic Tweet on Future Plans

0

Having been released just a few days ago, former WWE Superstar Braun Strowman appears to already be hinting at his next move. Strowman being released from WWE was arguably one of the biggest shocks of the year, with The Monster Among Men having been in the main event of WrestleMania Backlash.

Braun Strowman would take to Twitter to quote classic southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd; saying “if I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me? For I must be traveling on now, cause there’s too many places I’ve got to see!!!!”

Granted, it’s not exactly clear what Strowman means here. The powerhouse star may be hinting at his next move outside of WWE. NWA owner Billy Corgan recently said that he would like to sign Strowman to the promotion; but with the former WWE Superstar having been on a huge contract, that may not be possible.

Braun Strowman Hints at Future

Could Strowman be alluding to a wider run on the independent scene? Again it’s not exactly clear. What is known is that Braun Strowman will have to wait out his 90-day no compete clause before he makes his next move on a national scale.

The clause ends the first week in September, which would mean that Strowman would be available to appear at AEW’s All Out PPV event in Chicago.

There’s always of course the possibility that Braun may not ever return to the ring. Prior to WWE, Strowman was a powerlifter, so he could return to the sport. Braun could also pursue a career in television/film with his massive frame and look.

Where would you like to see Braun Strowman end up? Let us know in the comments

According to Raj Giri, Andrade also negotiated with Impact Wrestling before closing a deal with AEW. He signed with AEW just a few days ago after the terms of his deal were finalized.

Bret Hart Names His All-Time Favorite Opponent

0

Bret Hart is considered to be one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time. It’s said that he could make any opponent look good in the ring.

The WWE Hall Of Famer recently had an interview with Barstool Rasslin where he talked about a number of things and the wrestling veteran also revealed who was his own favorite opponent to face.

Hart was discussing his matches with Curt Hennig who he shared the ring with over 60 times. He claimed that Mr Perfect was his favorite opponent, with Owens Hart being a close second:

“I’ll always say this about Curt, if I could wrestle one guy again, it would’ve been Curt. He was my favorite opponent ever. My brother Owen [Hart] is a close second.”

Bret Hart got involved in the wrestling business at the young age of nine when he started his training as an amateur wrestler. His professional wrestling career kicked off in 1976 when he started competing for Stampede Wrestling.

The former world champion first gained fame when he made his debut for WWE in 1984. He went on to become one of the top stars for the promotion. Bret Hart’s career, unfortunately, ended due an injury he suffered in 1999.

Kurt Angle Recalls Sending Threatening Messages To Vince McMahon

0

Kurt Angle went through a dark period in his career in 2006. The former world champion was working through many injuries and the pain caused him to get addicted to painkillers.

The Olympic Gold Medallist was not only harming himself with the addiction but he got out of control to a point where he started sending threatening text messages to Vince McMahon.

Angle opened up about the time during the latest episode of his podcast. He recalled how he started behaving out of control because of his problem:

“Up until 2006 we were pretty close but my behavior became erratic, I started behaving out of control, sending Vince text messages threatening to beat him up. I had the painkiller problem that nobody knew about.”

The former WWE champion explained that he wasn’t able to take time off because a lot of other talents were on the shelf. This led to him sending more and more texts to Vince McMahon:

“I was texting Vince more and more and he wouldn’t respond and that pissed me off even more. After I joined ECW it got even worse. [I sent those texts] because he wouldn’t get back to me. I understand why now, I wasn’t making any sense.

When I went to a meeting with Vince after I decided to leave after ECW 2006, he had a whole list of text messages and I’m reading these saying ‘Gosh, I don’t remember texting this.’ It was really graphic, ‘I’m going to beat the sh** out of you.'”

Kurt Angle finally decided to quit WWE only a month after he was moved to ECW. He was granted an early release from his contract in August 2006.

NWA Champion Nick Aldis Talks Recent WWE Releases Including His Wife Mickie James

0

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis recently appeared on the It’s Our House podcast. The former Magnus in TNA discussed a number of topics on the show, including the WWE releases that have taken place over the past few weeks.

One of the Superstars released was Aldis’ wife Mickie James. “That’s just part of the game” Nick Aldis said on the podcast, talking about the likes of Aleister Black and Braun Strowman being released in shocking fashion. “You know if you’re gonna go to WWE you just need to be prepared for the good and the bad. You kind of jump on the roller coaster and hold on for dear life; it’s just sort of like that, that’s the big time, you know what I mean? Everyone knows it now, it shouldn’t come as any sort of major shock.”

“I certainly don’t want to speak on her behalf, but I think the frustration was more from how poorly used she was” Aldis continued, discussing the fallout from Mickie James being released.

“I think most people kind of know who was responsible for that” Aldis noted. “So that was like, nobody wins. They don’t really think about the fans. But at the same time, right away I got excited about the idea of her being able to be herself again and started thinking about potential matchups that we can help promote in our own way; on our own time and give it the stage it deserves.”

Jim Ross On The Origin Of Famous Vince McMahon Line

0

Jim Ross talked about the WWE career of Mick Foley on the latest episode of his Grilling JR podcast and during the talk; he also revealed the origin of a famous Vince McMahon line. The former WWE commentator was talking about an interview with the WWE Hall Of Famer in June 1997.

He explained that the boss was originally not expected to be there. According to Ross, the interview not only turned around the perception of Foley in Mr McMahon’s eyes but it also gave them one of his most memorable lines:

“We didn’t know Vince was even going to be there, we had no idea, That’s where the famous line that came from Vince, where we got to a certain stopping point and heard this voice and it’s unmistakably Vince saying ‘This is good s–t.’

At that point, Mick is made. He just sold the old man. I don’t know what his thoughts would be if you asked him today,” said Jim Ross, “But at that time, he had turned the corner. He got the blessing of the most powerful man in all of pro wrestling”

Apart from this, The AEW star also discussed how Mick Foley had no filter. He explained that the hardcore legend always wanted to do more and please the fans. Keith Lee Shares Latest Message With Fans: “I Will Find Another Way”

0

Keith Lee has shared his latest message to the fans wondering about his absence from the WWE TV and said that he will ‘find another way.’

The former NXT champion took on Twitter yesterday and once again shared an obscure message for his supporters saying that he wanted to do something educational for them.

Lee mentioned that that idea is off the table now for some reason. Though he also claimed that he will find another way to tell everything and it could be as simple as a video message:

The former NXT star has been off WWE programming for a while now. He last wrestled for the company in February and the heavyweight star was then taken off TV before the Elimination Chamber PPV.

Keith Lee was later revealed to be not medically cleared to compete. He underwent some testing in March. Though that was the last update on his situation and the result of the tests or the reason behind it were never shared.

The former champion has since made a few sporadic tweets but people have found it hard to make anything out of messages he has sent out.

Keith Lee has not been fired by the company despite the recent multiple waves of releases. So fans are still hopeful about seeing him back in a WWE ring but there is no word on when or if that will happen.

Jon Moxley On If He Learned Anything From Pandemic Era Wrestling: “I Didn’t Learn S**t”

0

A lot of wrestlers have called the pandemic era wrestling a learning experience but it’s not the case for the former AEW champion Jon Moxley. The AEW star recently had an interview with Wrestling Observer where he opened up about his experience of wrestling in empty arenas in the past year.

Talking about whether he has learned anything from wrestling in empty arenas without fans, Mox mentioned how every company has figured out a way to make it work but claimed that he ‘didn’t learn s**t’:

“Honestly, no. I don’t wanna work in an empty building; I don’t wanna work in front of fake fans. If we have to do it, I mean, we and other companies too.

Everybody, from IMPACT, Ring of Honor, New Japan, even the ThunderDome and all that, Everybody figured out a way to make it work in wrestling and in other sports too. Like hockey and all them, you know? UFC. I mean everybody figured out a way to do it but like, honestly, I didn’t learn shit.”

Jon Moxley then explained that he wants to wrestle in front of fans and feel the adrenaline of it. The former WWE champion said that he wants to do it live in front of people and hear the crowd once again:

“I want real people. I wanna walk out of the arena, I wanna walk back through the locker room, hear the crowd outside the curtain, I wanna do it live one time. F*** the pandemic.

We figured it out, we got through it but once that’s over, I’m not, you know, I would love there to be, ‘You know, I learned a very valuable lesson’ but nah, I didn’t learn shit. I wanna do it live, live people, that’s what I want.”

Jon Moxley was the pandemic era champion for AEW after winning the title in February last year. He spent most of his record-setting 277 days run as the heavyweight champion of the company in front of no crowd.

Kurt Angle On Scrapped WWE Plans For A Tag Team With His Brother

0

Kurt Angle signed with WWE in 1998 and he became an instant star. His brother Eric Angle then tried to follow his footsteps when he joined the company two years later in 2000.

During the latest episode of his podcast, the Olympic Gold Medallist talked about a number of things including his brother’s run with the company and more.

Recalling some scrapped plans for the duo, Kurt revealed that the company wanted them to be a tag team. However, the plans never materialized because of the release of his brother:

“That was the plan, they wanted Eric and I too tag together, they thought if Eric improved enough he’d be a great tag team partner for me, we could have a good run as a tag team for a while. Unfortunately, he got hurt and it never transpired.”

Eric Angle made his WWE debut during the Survivor Series PPV in 2000. He helped his brother in retaining the WWE championship against the Undertaker by switching places with Kurt Angle.

He was then signed to a development contract and sent to OVW. Unfortunately for Eric, he tore a ligament in his arm and went through nine surgeries to help correct the problems with his biceps.

While Eric Angle did make a return to WWE TV for a brief run in March 2003, his run with the company didn’t last long after that. He was released from his contract the same year.

Andrade El Idolo Made His AEW Debut

Tony wondered if Mark Henry was going to wrestle in AEW and Mark said he is not going to say yes right now, but he’s got a lot left in the tank.

Vickie Guerrero interrupted and told them both to get out of the ring. Vickie said she’s here to introduce a man who has won championships around the world and is a third generation wrestler. Vickie then introduced Andrade El Idolo and he came to the ring. Andrade said they use to say he was the face of latinos, but now he is saying he will be the new face of All Elite Wrestling.

Chris Jericho gave the fans free t-shirts and gave the microphone to Sammy. Guevara said that he had been practicing the 630 Splash that led Inner Circle to victory at Double or Nothing for years. Sammy thanked all the fans and the rest of the members of Inner Circle for their support.

Santana said that it isn’t over with The Pinnacle and then Hager challenged Wardlow to an MMA style fight in two weeks. Jericho vowed to get revenge on MJF for the carnage he has caused him and Inner Circle. They then flipped the bird to the camera as Dynamite went to a commercial.

After the match, Matt hopped in the ring and hit Christian with the Twist of Fate.

Sky & Page Interrupted Allin & Sting

Tony interviewed Darby Allin and Sting tonight on Dynamite. Allin and Sting defeated Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page this past Sunday night at Double or Nothing. Sting said that the match is something that he will never forget and stands up to anything he has ever done. The crowd chanted “you still got it!” and Sting thanked then. Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky interrupted from the Jumbotron and fake clapped. They challenged Allin to another tag match but wanted him to find another tag partner besides Sting.

Nyla Rose Ruined Britt Baker’s Celebration

Britt Baker celebrated her victory over Hikaru Shida and becoming the new AEW Women’s Champion at Double or Nothing. Britt thanked everyone to partying with her after her win over the longest reigning AEW Women’s Champion. Nyla Rose interrupted and ruined the celebration by throwing Big Macs and popping the balloons. Nyla Rose then walked away with Vickie Guerrero as Britt complained to Tony Schiavone in the ring.

Rhodes escaped and hit a Clothesline that sent both men out of the ring. Nick sent Dustin into the crowd but Rhodes responded by choking Comoroto with the rope. Fuego del Sol tried to help Dustin but Nick sent him flying into the crowd. Nick unloaded some punches on Rhodes on the floor as Dynamite went to a break.

When Dynamite returned, Aaron Solow was setting up a table ringside as Comoroto and Rhodes battled on the apron. Nick Powerbombed Rhodes through the table and then Solow took off a turnbuckle pad in the ring. Colten Gunn rushed the ring and attacked Solow. Rhodes bounced Comoroto’s face off the exposed turnbuckle and followed it up with a Bulldog off the top rope for the pinfall victory. Rhodes celebrated with the crowd in Daily’s Place to close the show.

Tom Latimer Reflects On WWE Release

0

Current NWA star Tom Latimer recently had an interview with This Is Wrestling podcast where he opened up about his battles with alcoholism in detail.

The 34-year-old star was signed by WWE in 2010 and was assigned to FCW before its rebranding to NXT. The company seemed to have some plans for him but they released him in 2012 following a confrontation with a police officer.

Reflecting on his WWE firing, Latimer recalled how the company officials had told him to seek help. However, he was in a state where the former TNA star didn’t even realize that he had a problem:

“When I got fired from WWE for a drinking related thing, for touching a cop, for one I was arrogant and I was in a good position, I thought ‘oh, I’ll be fine.” Because I’d already been arrested before that, when I’d first signed with WWE, for a DUI. So they already knew I had a drinking problem.

So when they released me, they said ‘go seek some help. Ya know, you’ve probably got a problem.’  I was still like ‘nah, I don’t have a problem.’”, said Tom Latimer, “And that’s how I still carried on for 10 years.”

The former champion later discussed how his perception of being an alcoholic was of a homeless person who is begging for money to buy more alcohol. He admitted that it took him a long time to realize that he was an alcoholic.

Though the good news for Tom Latimer is that he has realized his mistakes. The NWA star has since gone sober. You can check out his full interview below:
