JBL On How He Felt About WWE Splitting Up APA

0

Being part of the APA was an important stop in JBL’s career and the breakup of the group helped launch his run as a main eventer in WWE.

The WWE hall of famer alongside his partner Ron Simmons appeared on the latest episode of WWE’s The Bump where they discussed a number of things and relived the memories of their time together.

During the interview, JBL also talked about their storyline break up in 2004 which saw John turning on his partner and the former WWE champion said that he would have been happy if the company never split them:

“We knew it that it wasn’t gonna last forever. You know, we couldn’t be doing it to this day, we can go back and do the backstage stuff, but we wouldn’t be in the ring now, you know, backing that up anymore.

So, we knew at some point it was going to end, which I hated. I would’ve been happy being an APA member my entire life. If JBL had never happened and I retired at the end of APA, I’d be perfectly fine with that.”

APA lost a “You’re Fired” match to the then WWE tag team champions Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty in March 2004 and it meant that both the stars will be released from their contract.

However, General Manager Paul Heyman later revealed that Ron Simmons was the only one being released because the management saw potential in JBL. This storyline effectively ended the partnership between the two.

NJPW Unifying IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships

0

New Japan Pro Wrestling or NJPW has decided to unify the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and IWGP Intercontinental Championship belts currently held by Kota Ibushi into a new title.

The company president Naoki Sugabayashi confirmed the news to Tokyo Sports and revealed that the two belts will be unified to create the new IWGP World Heavyweight Championship:

“As a result of discussions on the company side, we [have] decided to respect the will of the current champion and unify the two thrones. IWGP Heavyweight and IC history inherited. ‘IWGP World Heavyweight Championship’ will be newly established and the belt will be renewed. “

The news of this unification came after Kota Ibushi, who has been advocating for the title unification since Wrestle Kingdom 15, defeated Tetsuya Naito in a match for the IC title during the Castle Attack event.

Jay White, who challenged for both titles at Night 2 of January’s Wrestle Kingdom 15 event, commented on the unification news:

IWGP Championship Unification

The IWGP Heavyweight Championship is currently the highest title in NJPW. The belt was established in 1987 and Antonio Inoki is the first recognized champion.

The IWGP Intercontinental Championship, on the other hand, was introduced in 2011 as the “gateway to IWGP” and the current WWE star MVP was the first person to hold the belt.

Ibushi is now set to face El Desperado at New Japan’s Anniversary Event on March 4 but his first defence with the new belt is expected to be against the winner of the New Japan Cup that starts on March 5.

The company is scheduled to hold a press conference on NJPW World at 3 PM JST today. They are expected to announce the news of the unification and reveal the brackets for the New Japan Cup during the event.

Kota Ibushi is the co-IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion. Ibushi has mentioned that he plans on unifying the Championships, something that Naito has said he does not want to happen. That is why Naito chose to only challenge for the IC belt.

“He’s An A**hole”: Jake Roberts Blasts Vince McMahon For Using His Personal Troubles Into Storyline

0

WWE and its owner Vince McMahon are known for incorporating the personal issues of their superstars into various storylines over the years and Hall Of Famer Jake Roberts is no stranger to this tactic from the company.

The promotion has previous used the veteran’s troubles with alcoholism into a controversial storyline which also involved Hall Of Famer Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler back in 1996. Lawler even force-fed his opponent a bottle of bourbon after their match at SummerSlam that year.

Roberts opened up about the controversial angle during his recent interview with Inside The Ropes, and he blasted Mr. McMahon, calling him an ‘a**hole’:

“Well, I thought it was a horrible thing for McMahon to ask me to do, It was cheap, it was disrespectful,” said the wrestling veteran, “It didn’t prove a damn thing other than the fact that Vince McMahon’s an a**hole, so there you go. Lawler, he’s in the same boat. Both a**holes.”

Jake Roberts has since turned things around. His win over his battle with addiction was chronicled in the 2015 documentary, Resurrection of Jake The Snake. He also talked about his efforts to get clean during the interview and the current AEW star explained that he wants to be around for long to spend time with his grandkids. You can check out his full interview here.

RVD On Who Should Induct Him Into Hall Of Fame

0

With his illustrated career in WWE where he has won over a dozen championships, RVD has rightfully earned a spot for himself into the Hall Of Fame and it’s only a matter of time before the company makes it official.

The former WWE champion recently appeared on the That 90’s Wrestling Podcast where he talked about a number of things and also revealed his choice for the person to induct him into the Hall Of Fame.

The former hardcore champion took the name of former ECW owner Paul Heyman when asked the question. RVD explained that Paul was the only producer that ever had his best interest at heart:

“Kinda has to be Paul [Heyman], doesn’t it? I think it has to be Paul. Sabu doesn’t talk very good [laughs], On the real, Paul is the only producer/agent that’s ever had my best interests at heart and understood me, you know and because of that, ya know it has to be him as predictable as it is.”

RVD also revealed that WWE officials had recently contacted him for a documentary. He confirmed that it will be coming out in May this year:

“They [WWE] contacted me and asked if I’d be interested and that they wanted to make a documentary on me, and I said sure, I’d be interested,

We haven’t actually shot much of it yet, but, [whispering] it comes out in May. So we’re gonna be shooting a lot of it real soon. So I’m excited about it, I’m talking to them [WWE] about doing a book, we’re in talks.”

Apart from this, RVD talked about his relationship with the WWE chairman Vince McMahon. He claimed that his relationship with Mr McMahon wasn’t severed even after his WWE departure because he kept in touch with the boss.

Thunder Rosa Pays Tribute To The Question Mark

0

“The Question Mark” Joseph Hudson (aka Jocephus) passed away suddenly recently. He had been a big part of the NWA’s revival under Billy Corgan. Hudson debuted the Question Mark character as the promotion began filming studio shows for NWA Powerrr. Former NWA Women’s Champion, Thunder Rosa, paid tribute to the man this weekend at an independent show.

Rosa took to Twitter to share photos of her making her ring entrance in Mongrovian style.

When Is The NWA Returning?

Shortly after the onset of the pandemic, the NWA was forced to cancel its scheduled “Crockett Cup 2020” show. They have not run any events since. The promotion recently removed all its content from its YouTube page, leading some to fear the worse.

“Friends, I don’t know what’s going on with the NWA YouTube page, please stop asking. Thank you,’ Tweeted Dave Marquez.

Dave Meltzer noted on the Wrestling Observer message board that he has heard a positive announcement is coming soon, however.

“I was told it will be something announced in the next few days which is a good thing. Would not have to do with AEW,” Meltzer wrote.

Thunder Rosa will face Riho on AEW Dynamite this week in the 2nd round of the Women’s title-eliminator tournament.

Roman Reigns Ridicules Daniel Bryan’s Fastlane Title Match Attempts

0

Roman Reigns would go against Daniel Bryan to defend his WWE Universal Championship at Fastlane, on a condition. As it was revealed on Talking Smack this weekend, the condition that Bryan is given is that he has to first beat Jey Uso in a Steel Cage Match at this week’s Friday Night SmackDown. Daniel Bryan had to go through five other competitors in an Elimination Chamber match for an immediate WWE Universal Championship match at the same night. Reigns was able to quickly defeat Bryan by technical submission and retain the title.

On last week’s SmackDown, Daniel Bryan and Jey Uso faced off each other to decide if Bryan would get a title shot against Roman Reigns at Fastlane. However, the match ended in a double count out, so there was no clear outcome on if Bryan would get the title opportunity or not. However, with this new development, Bryan has another chance at Reigns.

Daniel Bryan Cuts Promo On Part-Time Wrestlers, Namedrops CM Punk

Roman Reigns took to Instagram on Saturday where he ridiculed Daniel Bryan’s attempts at getting a rematch. According to Reigns, Bryan’s efforts are wasted as he would end up in the same spot, anyway. He wrote, “Putting yourself through a whole bunch of a trouble just to end up in the same place. On the ground. Knocked out.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/CLzgXRKpI0a/?utm_source=ig_embed

On Talking Smack, Paul Heyman said that he had been authorised by Roman Reigns to offer Daniel Bryan a rematch against Jey Uso. If Bryan wins, he would get the title shot at Fastlane but if Uso wins, then Bryan has to admit that Reigns is the tribal chief, the head of the table, the best wrestler on the planet, the undisputed Universal Champion, and the main eventer of WrestleMania. It would be interesting to see how things go into Fastlane, a month away from WrestleMania.

Fastlane will take place on Sunday, March 21 from the WWE ThunderDome hosted at the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all updates and results.

The Rock Reminisces Toasting With Steve Austin In Different Cities

0

The Rock has often fondly reminisced back on the times he spent feuding with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin which fans consider to be the most iconic rivalries in wrestling. Recently, Rock made a throwback post on Twitter, quote retweeting a picture of him and Austin together in the ring toasting with beers. Pretty much every time they would do this, Austin would hit Rock with a Stunner, much to the delight of fans.

The Rock recalled that him and Steve Austin would recreate the iconic moment of them sharing beers in multiple cities every night. “Many of you know what’s about to happen in roughly 3 seconds after this beer Clinking beer mugs smash…. And @steveaustinBSR and I did this in a different city EVERY NIGHT. Much less was scripted back then and these were BRILLIANT times!!! What an era as all things ebb and flow in @wwe,” Rock wrote.

The Rock also shared that much of what we saw in the ring was not scripted and they had a great time together. “The Brahma Bull” also alluded to how he would be hit by a Stunner each time during the iconic moment. One of the more entertaining aspects to their rivalry was how Rock would over-sell the Stunner. Sometimes he would flip and bounce off the ropes, nearly perform a cartwheel, or wiggle around like he’s suffering a seizure.

The Rock once revealed that he and Steve Austin would bet cases of beer to see how crazy he could get while selling the Stunner. Austin has said that Rock and him had swift chemistry with each other and they hit it off well. “The Texas Rattlesnake” explained that the both of them got along like gangbusters inside and outside of the ring. Rock has also recalled that whenever they met in the ring, they would know the finish of the match but they had to call everything out in the ring. They were so tight that the night before their match at WrestleMania X-Seven they went out for a steak dinner to discuss the match.

Bobby Lashley On Who He Wants To Face At WrestleMania 37

0

Bobby Lashley is all set to face The Miz for the WWE Championship on this week’s Monday Night Raw, after helping Miz to cash in his Money in the Bank contract by beating down former Champion Drew McIntyre at Elimination Chamber. Lashley is super confident that he’s going to win the match and become the next WWE Champion. In fact, he has already named who he is going to defend his title against at WrestleMania 37, while also talking about his dream match at “The Grandest Stage Of Them All”.

Speaking to Inside the Ropes, Bobby Lashley said that while his dream match at WrestleMania would be against Brock Lesnar, he has set his sights on former Champion Drew McIntyre simply because of the fact that McIntyre beat Lesnar in quick fashion at last year’s WrestleMania.

“As far as Brock, Brock is one person but how I look at it is Drew beat Brock in, like, no time. So, of course, my sights were set on Brock for some time but, like I said, Drew is the man, Drew is the one that beat him, Drew beat Goldberg,” Bobby Lashley said.

While Bobby Lashley acknowledged that the dream match fans want is between him and Brock Lesnar, he considers Drew McIntyre the top guy right now. And therefore, beating McIntyre comes first for him. “Of course Brock is that kind of mystery match, dream match that everybody has wanted us to have for some time now but right now, I’m looking to be the best and right now the best is Drew. Drew is the top guy. If I beat Miz, or when I beat Miz, I think Drew is the guy,” Lashley explained.

As noted before, Bobby Lashley viciously assaulted Drew McIntyre after he survived and successfully defended his WWE Championship in the Elimination Chamber match. This gave The Miz the perfect opening to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, making him a two-time WWE Champion. The following night on Raw, it was revealed that Miz had struck a deal with the Hurt Business, according to which the Miz would give Lashley a title shot if he helped him cash in his contract.

Bobby Lashley stated that Drew McIntyre’s “the man” and that to be the man you’ve got to beat the man and therefore all his focus is on McIntyre. McIntyre meanwhile was not present at last week’s Raw but he is set to return to the show this week.

Big Cass Makes First Wrestling Appearance Since 2019 (Video)

0

Former WWE star Big Cass returned to in-ring action for the first time since 2019 this past Saturday night during an indie event organized by Lariato Pro Wrestling.

Former WWE and current Impact Wrestling star Doc Gallows posted a video of his return on Twitter and the fans noted that the former NXT star looked to be in great shape:

https://twitter.com/The_BigLG/status/1365846047885557762?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Big Cass first got recognization among fans after he signed a WWE contract in 2011 and started teaming with Enzo Amore in NXT around 2013.

The monster sized athlete was given a push after he debuted on main roster and broke up with Amore. The company officials were seeing him as a future star.

However, he was released from his contract in June 2018 after Cass went off script during a segment on SmackDown and reports suggested that various behavioral issues attributed to the decision.

He returned to independent circuit after his release from the promotion and made appearances for companies like ROH and NJPW. However, his last wrestling appearance came in 2019 during the NEW How You Doin show in September.

Big Cass’ former partner and close friend Enzo Amore had later revealed in interviews that the former WWE star took time off to seek professional help for his personal issues.

Ric Flair On Big Show Joining AEW: “I Didn’t See It Coming”

0

The announcement of Big Show aka Paul Wight joining the All Elite Wrestling roster caught a lot of people off guard and it appears that the wrestling legend Ric Flair was one of them.

The 16 time world champion recently appeared on Busted Open Radio where he talked about a number of things and also discussed the big decision by the giant.

Flair was asked about the surprising turn of events with the now-former WWE star. Replying to the question, he mentioned how he met Big Show recently and claimed that he didn’t see it coming:

“To answer your question, I was just with him, and I did not see it happening. He did not mention a word to me, and I was with him, what two weeks ago, three weeks ago, and whenever they had the Legends Reunion, he was there.”

“So, I didn’t see it coming, and I’m sure they must have made him a spectacular deal over there. Do I wish had would stay with us personally? Yes.” said Flair, “But, at the same time, he has earned my respect, and I think he has earned the respect of everybody and should be able to make the choice he wants.”

The WWE Hall Of Famer interestingly also explained that in past they all used to be aware of what’s going on but now it’s a different world. He is better off not asking and instead of trying to catch up, he just pretends like he is there.

Apart from this, Ric Flair also talked about his history with the former WWE star and told a funny story about the time they first worked together.

Mark Henry Planning In Ring Return For One More Match

0

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry is gearing up for a return to the ring. Henry says he is “lighter, trimmer” than he’s ever been and plans to wrestle at least once in the next six months.

Henry discussed his intentions on a recent episode of Busted Open on SiriusXM. He is open to wrestling anybody, but spoke about battling a former rival, Randy Orton.

“I’d rather get punked out than to get my a– whooped, Randy is not somebody to mess around with if you’re not 100%,” said Henry.

“Now I’m walking on two feet, I’m 325 pounds; I’m lighter, trimmer than I’ve ever been. I plan on having a match sometime in the next six months. I just want to have one match, and if Randy is the guy, then so be it. Believe me, I’ll be ready and I won’t be on one foot on a push scooter.”

The former World Champion made his WWE debut way back in 1996. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.

Although Mark Henry never had a formal retirement, he has not been an active competitor since 2013. He’s worked for WWE in various behind the scenes roles in recent years.

You can listen to Mark Henry’s comments in the tweet embedded below:

Daniel Bryan Cuts Promo On Part-Time Wrestlers, Namedrops CM Punk

0

Former world champion Daniel Bryan appeared on the latest Talking Smack and the former champion cut an interesting promo on the show, targeting the part-time wrestlers from the SmackDown brand.

Bryan, who has endured two big losses in the past week including his loss at the Elimination Chamber and a double count-out in his match against Jey Uso on SmackDown, said that he feels like he has failed himself.

The former NXT star then targeted the part time stars and he mentioned how he has wrestled more matches in the last few days compared to the two men who are going to main event WrestleMania this year in Edge and Roman Reigns:

“You have two guys in the main event of WrestleMania who have wrestled a total of three matches this year,” said Daniel Bryan, “In the last eight days, I have wrestled more matches than the two of those men combined.

On Sunday, I sat on the ground while two men — who’ve wrestled only three matches this year – are going to main event WrestleMania. I failed myself. So, if you wanna ask how it felt to win the Elimination Chamber for the third time, it didn’t feel good.”

Daniel Bryan also namedropped CM Punk and claimed that he is going to take back his reign as the best wrestler in the world:

“I have a message for you to give to Roman Reigns. I am no longer putting myself on the back burner. I am no longer putting other people first; I am going to take what’s mine. And that’s the reign that I’ve had — before CM Punk — and that’s the best damn wrestler in the world.”

Daniel Bryan is currently set to face Jey Uso in a steel cage match at next week’s episode of SmackDown. He will get a shot at Roman Reigns’ Universal title if he wins the bout.

NWA Removes All Content From YouTube, New Coming Soon

0

National Wrestling Alliance or NWA is making headlines after some bizarre turn of events and reports of some future news about the company.

The whole thing started when the Billy Corgan owned promotion took down all their content from YouTube, leaving their channel on the site completely blank.

NWA youtube

The NWA ring announcer and the creator of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood David Marquez then took on his Twitter to respond to the fans and he admitted that he doesn’t know the reason behind it.

NWA’s Future

Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline later provided some updates on the situation. He noted that the company would be announcing something good in the next few days, though it’s not something related to AEW:

“I was told it will be something announced in the next few days which is a good thing. Would not have to do with AEW.”

NWA, like many other promotions, also faced hardships last year due to the coronavirus pandemic and they had to halt production of their weekly series Powerrr due to the same.

Though the owner Billy Corgan had shot down rumors about the promotion shutting down and he also revealed late last year that their weekly show will be returning soon.

Matt Riddle Shares Some of His WWE Dream Matches

0

WWE United States Champion Matt Riddle recently spoke to ViBe & Wrestling. The ‘Original Bro’ discussed a number of topics during the interview, including some dream matches that he wants in WWE.

“Edge is one of my dream matches” Riddle mentioned on the show. “I mentioned him already on my dream scenario for a tag match. He is so good, and brings the presence.”

“It is the same with Randy Orton” Matt Riddle continued. “Randy is so good, so big, so athletic and such a household name. He is a dream match.”

Matt Riddle on Dream Matches

Matt Riddle finished by naming another of WWE’s veteran performers. “AJ Styles, especially with this new giant, he is a dream match. So if you can be in a program with them or get in a rivalry with them certainly is career making.”

Matt Riddle’s WrestleMania 37 match has not yet been confirmed publicly. There were unsubstantiated reports that WWE were planning a Goldberg vs Riddle match at the Show of Shows; but again these have not been confirmed with any verifiable sources.

Edge and Randy Orton are already set for WrestleMania programs with Roman Reigns and The Fiend respectively. A potential United States Championship match between Riddle and AJ Styles is however a possibility.

MJF Talks Learning From Jim Cornette Whilst in MLW

0

AEW Star MJF recently appeared on the Wrestling Perspective podcast. Maxwell Jacob Friedman discussed a number of topics during the show, including how he learned from Jim Cornette whilst working in MLW.

“So I worked with Jim Cornette more than I think people realize when I was in Major League Wrestling” MJF began. “And getting to go back and forth with him — look, is he a fan of guys on my roster? Absolutely not, but if I’m being honest, neither am I.”

MJF on Jim Cornette

“But he’s a very smart guy” MJF continued. “He understands how to manipulate an audience. I loved his work, I loved Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan’s work. Even Grand Wizard. He might not have necessarily been the greatest promo of all time? But the guy understood how to manipulate a crowd without even speaking.”

MJF finished by praising one of WWE’s biggest managers/special councils. “I mean, there’s been so many great managers of the past. Paul Heyman obviously. We’re both Jews, we’re both very affluent. And we’re both very good at speaking and we’re both from New York. so Paul Heyman also another guy who is most certainly a big influence on me.”

MJF and Chris Jericho will be taking on The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution in March.

Backstage News On Plans For The Miz At WrestleMania 37

0

The Miz surprised everyone when he successfully cashed in his Money In The Bank contract and became the WWE Champion once again after 10 years.

However, it appears that he will not be keeping the belt for long and reports from the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggest that the A-Lister will be dropping the championship soon.

According to the reports, despite his championship win, The Miz is still ‘earmarked’ for a tag team match with John Morrison against Bad Bunny and Damian Priest at WrestleMania 37.

If these reports are true, then it will mean that the current champion will not be keeping the belt for very long and he will be dropping the title before the event.

The Miz cashed in his Money In The Bank contract on Drew McIntyre after the main event of the Elimination Chamber PPV. He managed to win the world title from the Scottish psychopath with some help from Bobby Lashley.

He is now scheduled to defend his title against Lashley in a one on one match at next week’s episode of Raw. In light of the latest reports, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up losing the championship to the all mighty on Monday.

Cesaro Comments On Reports About His WWE Future

0

Cesaro has made some headlines recently with reports about his current WWE status and his future with the company becoming a topic of discussion.

He was asked to confirm whether he has signed a new contract with the company during his recent interview with Ryan Satin of WWE on Fox and he said “Well … I could. I certainly could confirm or deny that.”

Cesaro went on to say that he loves the mystery of the situation and he feels like the air of mystery needs to stay because it makes things special:

“What I love about this whole thing is there’s always some mystery to everything, right? And I feel like that air of mystery needs to stay with a lot of things because that’s what makes it magic, and that’s what makes it special. So, you know, who knows?”

Cesaro’s current WWE deal is set to expire after WrestleMania 37 but latest reports on the matter claim that the Swiss Superman has either already agreed to a new deal or signed the contract altogether.

Apart from this, the former champion also talked about his passionate Talking Smack promo before the Elimination Chamber PPV which created a lot of buzz and more. You can check out his full interview at this link.

Drew McIntyre To Return To WWE Raw Next Week

0

Drew McIntyre defended his WWE Championship successfully against five former world champions at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event on Sunday. He was unable to walk out of the arena with the title around his waist, however, as Bobby Lashley unleashed an attack on him after the Chamber match. This was all part of “business”, as Lashley’s attack on McIntyre was to help The Miz successfully cash in his Money in the Bank contract and win the WWE Championship himself.

Drew McIntyre was not present on this week’s Monday Night Raw, and Bobby Lashley earned the opportunity to face Miz one-on-one in a title match on the March 1 episode of Raw. On this week’s episode of SmackDown, WWE made the announcement that “The King of Claymore Country” will appear on the same episode of Raw. It would be interesting to see the former WWE Champion address The Miz after his title was taken away from him by the “A-Lister”, as well as Bobby Lashley for the surprise attack which was the main reason why McIntyre lost his Championship.

It’s also highly likely that Drew McIntyre could interfere in the title match and stop Bobby Lashley from winning the title. The Miz on the other hand, has expressed no signs of slowing down since becoming champion. He has made his plans clear: that he has no plans to be a transitional champion. The idea that fans think his reign after a strong champion like McIntyre is going to be just a one-off fuels his fire.

“It makes me think back to when I cashed in the Money in the Bank contract and won the belt in 2010. People thought I would lose, but I didn’t. Instead, I won the WWE Championship,” The Miz said. He recalled how he was told he would just be a transitional champion but he went on to main event WrestleMania. The Miz said that this time too, he is going to exceed expectations and prove everyone wrong.

Conor McGregor Teases Match With Finn Balor, Triple H Comments

0

Conor McGregor, the former UFC Champion has expressed interest in pro wrestling and working with WWE over the years, with many wrestlers offering their takes on whether he would be a good fit at the company or how he would fare as a champion with some even expressing their desire to work with him in the squared circle. While it doesn’t appear that McGregor has any plans of walking away from MMA for pro wrestling yet, he teased another possible link-up with WWE involving none other than current NXT Champion Finn Balor.

On Friday, Finn Balor uploaded a photo on Twitter of action figures of himself with the NXT Championship, Conor McGregor with the UFC titles, and Triple H in the center of both inside a toy WWE ring. McGregor took notice of the post, and retweeted it with the quote, “No more mr. nice guy!”

This caught the attention of Triple H, who responded by saying, “Just say when.” Triple H has talked about Conor McGregor working with the company many times before.

Triple H has always been interested with the idea of Conor McGregor working with WWE. Speaking on how he would be a good fit with the company, Triple H said: “I think Conor McGregor versus Vince McMahon with the billion-dollar walk on the line, I think that’s a match made in heaven.” Triple H joked. “I think the nature of what we do — even being entertainment — it lends itself to combat sports. It lends itself to people like Conor McGregor or Ronda [Rousey], as it does with Tyson Fury. It did in the past with Mike Tyson and Floyd [Mayweather]. Entertaining people are what makes those fights, a lot of times.”

Back in 2016, Triple H said Conor McGregor could come to the WWE anytime he wants to, stating that one doesn’t need to be huge to be a big star anymore. “He could come over, he’s got it all, man — he’s got the personality, the skills, the talk. He’s an entertainer, for sure. What does he walk around at? 180lbs? I have smaller guys now in the WWE. We have 200lb guys who are stars. You don’t need to be 300lbs anymore,” The Game said of McGregor.

WWE has seen many MMA stars join the company in the past — namely Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler and Matt Riddle. Conor McGregor could also have a good stint at the company with someone like Finn Balor who has expressed interest in working with him before too.

Apollo Crews Debuts New “Nigerian Royalty” Character

0

Apollo Crews has gone through a significant change over the past few weeks on SmackDown. He has gotten a bit more aggressive and finally turned heel a week ago. Crews’ full heel turn was definitely around the corner, as he showed us glimpses of his destructive side over the weeks.

After embracing that side and going through it by attacking Big E and Shinsuke Nakamura last week, Crews debuted a new character with new attire and all. On Friday Night SmackDown, Crews came out and declared that he is proud of what he did and he talked about his ancestors that we had no knowledge of before this.

Apollo Crews said that he’s a “real African American” and that his ancestors were “real Nigerian royalty.” Apparently, Crews’ grandfather was ruler of large swathes of land in Nigeria, going to bed with his five wives draped in gold, if we are to go by his words. “My grandfather — he ruled, and he commanded some of the richest lands in Nigeria. He spent his days draped in gold and his nights with his five wives. His word was law and he was feared,” Crews declared during a promo on SmackDown.

Apollo Crews’ new attire consisted of a scarf and new white and green color on his gear. Crews explained that the colors signify wealth, dominance, and power. He said that he would make a point of anyone who challenged him, and Shinsuke Nakamura came out to take revenge for what happened during last week’s SmackDown.

Apollo Crews didn’t let Shinsuke Nakamura get in the ring though, as he assaulted him again and used the steel steps outside of the ring before the match even began. However, as the match began, Crews was able to be dominant throughout the bout and interestingly used an Olympic slam — also known as the Angle slam popularised by Kurt Angle — as his finisher to pick up the victory over Nakamura.

The Miz made history last Sunday when he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to become not only the WWE Champion but the first ever 2-time grand slam champion in the history of the company.

The A-Lister appeared on Renee Young’s Oral Sessions podcast after his big win where the new champion talked about a number of things.

The Miz also discussed his cash in during the interview, and he revealed that he only found out about the plans for his title win on the day of the Elimination Chamber pay per view itself:

“I didn’t… I had no idea! I went in there, and no one was talking to me. Like, all of the creative, I was like, ‘Is anyone going to talk to me?’

And then, I went in and figured out what was going on,” said The Miz, “And I was like, ‘Ok, this is it.’ You don’t believe it’s going to happen until you hear the 1-2-3.”

Drew McIntyre defended his WWE Championship in the main event of the Elimination Chamber PPV and he won the match by last eliminating AJ Styles.

However,  Bobby Lashley attacked McIntyre after the bout. The Miz, taking advantage of the situation, cashed in his guaranteed title opportunity and became the WWE champion once again after 10 years.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the most recognizable professional wrestlers of the world and he became famous during the Monday Night Wars era.

Many consider Steve Austin to be the greatest pro wrestler of all time and his rivalry with WWE chairman Vince McMahon is considered to be one of the best feuds in the history of professional wrestling.

While the former world champion retired from active competition in 2002, he has continued his involvement in the industry one way or the other and he remains to be one of the most popular wrestlers to this day.

SmackDown women’s champion Sasha Banks was recently a guest on Broken Skulls Sessions with Stone Cold Steve Austin where she talked about the various stages of her wrestling career in detail.

During the interview, the Boss talked about her early days in the company and she revealed the story behind the origin of her ring name:

“I remember my first week they were like give us a list of names, I just remember putting Sasha with a different last name and Banks with a different first name.

And then I had a match the week after that and Sara Del Rey came into the locker room like ‘You’re Sasha Banks.’ Yanno what? I love that, that sounds like money, it sounds like gold.”

Sasha also recalled her mother’s reaction to the name. She revealed that her mom didn’t like it at first and she wanted it changed:

“I remember telling my mom and my mom looked it up and she goes ‘I hate it. It sounds like a porn star’s name, Mercedes. Change it right now! Call them up!’ I’m like ‘I cannot tell WWE to change my name, are you kidding me?’ “

Apart from this, Sasha Banks talked about the creation of her character and she explained how Tyler Breeze and Xavier Woods went out of their way to help the current champion.
