Impact Announces Hardcore Justice Event On April 10th

0

Impact Wrestling is building to a big Rebellion PPV on April 24th, 2021. 2 weeks before that event, Impact will present Hardcore Justice on the Impact plus streaming service on April 10th, 2021.

The event was announced last night on Impact’s weekly show on AXS TV and Twitch. Tommy Dreamer and Scott D’Amore were discussing Impact having lost their tag titles to a team from NJPW and the possibility of losing the world championship to an AEW wrestler when the event was announced. Scott D’Amore told Dreamer he can book the whole card for April 10th. Dreamer then handed D’Amore a piece of paper with the entire match card already written out. Fans weren’t able to see what matches Dreamer has planned, but D’Amore was very impressed with what he saw.

While Dreamer is booking the card in storyline, he’s also a key member of Impact’s current creative team. In a report from the Wrestling Observer last month, it was revealed that Jimmy Jacobs heads up the creative team (reporting to D’Amore) with Tommy Dreamer and Robert Evans contributing.

Upcoming Impact Wrestling Schedule

Next week:

  • X-Division Championship
    Ace Austin (c) vs TJP
  • Deonna Purrazzo vs Jazz
  • Karl Anderson vs Eddie Edwards

Hardcore Justice – April 10th, 2021

  • Tommy Dreamer to book card.

Rebellion – April 24th, 2021

  • Impact vs AEW Championship
Kenny Omega (AEW World Champion) vs Rich Swann (Impact World Champion)
  • Impact Tag Team Championships
FinJuice (Juice Robinson & David Finlay) (c) vs The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows)

Deonna Purrazzo: Moving On From WWE Was Best For Me

0

Deonna Purrazzo recently did an interview The Sun where she talked about her career so far and touched on her time working with WWE. She also talked about her decision to return to Impact Wrestling after her stint with WWE. Purrazzo said that after her NXT non-compete clause ended, she wanted to explore all options and Impact seemed to be the best fit for her. According to her, everything with the company worked out perfectly and lined up time wise.

This would work out for Deonna Purrazzo as she would go on to become the Knockouts Champion twice. “I think because I was already feeling unsure if I wanted to stay in WWE, it was kind of the right time to move on,” she said. “As much as it was scary at the time, I definitely feel like I gave my all to that adventure [NXT] and I’m better for it but moving on was what was best for me in every aspect of my life.”

Deonna Purrazzo was released from WWE along with 18 other main roster wrestlers on April 15. Speaking on her WWE release, she said that she was unhappy with the company for the last six months of her tenure at NXT. She told officials that she’d rather be released than stay and do nothing. Speaking about the backstage culture at NXT, she revealed that it was one where everyone was expected to just be to be there. According to Purrazzo, everyone there is supposed to just be grateful for what they get. The Knockouts Champion said she wasn’t happy with her position because she worked hard just to get there. She suggested a lot of character ideas that but they all fell on deaf years.

Purrazzo’s last match for the company was on the April 6th, 2020 edition of Raw. During her time with the WWE, she only had 16 televised matches. As for now in Impact, she retained her title in a match against ODB at the Sacrifice pay-per-view event on Saturday.

Impact Results (3/16): The Build To Swann vs Omega Begins

Impact Wrestling this week featured Rich Swann’s first appearance as the holder of both the Impact and TNA World Championships. Don Callis had something to say to the champ about his upcoming match with Kenny Omega at Rebellion, however.

  1. FinJuice defeated Team XXXL
  2. Rhino defeated Jake Something
  3. Rohit Raju defeated Shera
  4. Jordynne Grace, Jazz, ODB, Havok, Nevaeh & Alisha defeated Deonna Purrazzo, Fire N Flava, Kimber Lee, Susan & Tenille Dashwood

Don Callis Confronts Rich Swann

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2DWnmeAnJM

The build to Rich Swann vs Kenny Omega began this week. Swann came out to cut a promo this week dropped in his two championship belts. He was interrupted by Don Callis, however, who debuted new entrance music that plays into his “Invisible Hand” moniker. Callis told Swann that he was the invisible hand helping him in his career in Impact over the last few years. He said he believes in Swann and his talents but eventually moved on to focus more on Kenny Omega. Callis promised Swann that he’s already written what will happen at Rebellion. As Callis left the ring area, Swann was left to ponder all that the Invisible Hand had just told him.

Sami Callihan Delivers Vicious Piledriver On Trey Miguel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeYbkxlqO-8

Sami Callihan is the master of the piledriver. He used several of them to defeat Brian Cage and win the Impact World Championship in 2019 and he used a package piledriver to possibly injure Trey Miguel in this week’s main event. Miguel was on the turnbuckle and briefly turned his attention to the referee and away from Callihan. This allowed The Draw to wrap Trey up and deliver the package piledriver. After the match, Trey continued to sell the move as the commentary team speculated that perhaps it should be banned.

Juice Robinson and David Finlay Are Taking The Tag Belts To Japan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHoZfQCu2l4

The team of Juice Robinson and David Finlay won the Impact Wrestling Tag Team Championships at Sacrifice. They then defeated the team of Acey Romero and Larry D in tag action on this week’s show. After the match, former champions Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows confronted them. The Good Brothers said that FinJuice got lucky at Sacrifice and they want another match. FinJuice then explained they are headed back to NJPW for a tour and won’t be back until April. Later in the show, Scott D’Amore told Anderson and Gallows they can have their rematch at Rebellion.

Tony Khan and Tony Schiavone Run Down St. Patricks’ Day Slam

Violent By Design Takes Out Beer, Guns, and Something

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Syd38b7K0tA

At Sacrifice, Rhino aligned with Eric Young’s Violent By Design faction. This week, he took on Jake Something in singles action. During the match, Chris Sabin and James Storm (who had accompanied Jake Something to the ring) got into a brawl with the other members of VOD. Meanwhile, inside the ring Rhino delivered a Gore to Something and got the win. After the match, VOD had a 4-on-3 numbers advantage and continued the assault on Sabin, Storm, and Something.

Rohit Raju Picks Up Win Over Shera

After losing to Chris Sabin and James Storm at Sacrifice, Rohit Raju and Shera showed some dissension and then were booked for this singles match against one another. Shera seemed as though he had the advantage throughout much of the match. In the end, however, it was Raju rolling his opponent up and then putting his feet on the ropes that earned him the tainted victory.

Jazz Makes Kimber Lee Tap in 6-on-6 Knockouts Tag Match

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2n98p2M6XM

A huge chunk of the Knockouts division was involved in this match. This all stems from some altercation that had taken place inside Swinger’s Palace, the hot new backstage location where rivalries are able to form. There was a lot of action taking place at once in this match but when the smoke settled, it was Jazz and Kimber Lee alone in the ring. Jazz hit an X-factor and then locked in the STF and made the former CHIKARA champ tap. It was later announced that Jazz will face Purrazzo in non-title action next week.

Paul Heyman Says The Rock Contacted WWE For Roman Reigns WrestleMania Match

0

The Rock vs. Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 37 has been in the talks for a long time, but unfortunately it isn’t going to materialize, at least this year. The dream match has been teased for over a year now and fans had hoped to see the match at the Grandest Stage Of Them All. While there doesn’t seem to be any indication of the match happening anytime soon, Paul Heyman said in an interview that negotiations for the match are taking place.

“If I could show you one day’s worth of text messages, emails and calls that come into my phone from some of the biggest superstars in sports and entertainment on this planet, it would blow your mind,” Paul Heyman told GiveMeSport in a recent interview. “Crossover celebrities in their prime would love to step into a WrestleMania ring with Roman Reigns. It’s not just Dwayne Johnson. The Rock is just one of many. Top stars in many sports are yearning for the publicity, the notoriety, fame, legacy and money of main eventing WrestleMania with Roman Reigns.”

Roman Reigns vs. The Rock is a match that both men themselves are interested in. It would be one of the biggest marquee matches that the company could assemble. Rock being one of the biggest movie stars right now with a demanding schedule could make it tricky to actually take place. Triple H has said that if Rock wants to do it then WWE will do “everything” to make sure it happens. “If fans want to see it, we will make it happen. But it really comes down to does The Rock want to it and does he have the time to do it.”

If not now, then later. Roman Reigns has said that it would make sense for him to face The Rock when WrestleMania returns to Hollywood. “We’ll go to Hollywood for WrestleMania 39, and I think it just makes sense, he’s the biggest box office attraction for the big screen. So, to be able to take that and match it up with the biggest box office attraction in sports entertainment, I think some magic would be made,” Reigns said regarding the matchup.

The match has been in discussions for a few years now and The Rock has discussed what the potential match could be like multiple times before. “The People’s Champ” said that he’d be honored to wrestle his cousin at a future WrestleMania. He even relayed that not only would he be honored to face him in the ring, he’d be also more than glad to put Reigns over on that stage.

Christian Cage Reveals Talks With Jon Moxley Before Signing AEW Contract

0

New AEW signee Christian Cage recently spoke to Sports Illustrated. Captain Charisma stated during the interview that he was happy to join All Elite as he felt they would present his character in a way befitting of a legend.

“[Jon] Moxley is a good friend of mine, and he was saying, ‘You’re a free agent; you should at least have a conversation with Tony Khan,’ so I did” Christian Cage began.

“Listening to the things Tony thought I could bring to the table and how he thought I could help, providing me the right platform at this stage in my career, it all made sense,” Cage continued. “In less than a week, it was a done deal.”

Christian Cage also discussed why he left WWE back in 2005. As you may remember, Christian joined TNA during the mid 2000s to try and prove that he could be a main event player in a promotion.

Christian Cage on Leaving WWE

“When I left in 2005, I was kind of pigeonholed into a certain spot [in WWE]” Christian Cage revealed. “And that wasn’t going to change unless I changed it myself,” Jay Reso mentioned.

“So I bet on myself. I knew that I had the talent and I was confident in my ability” Cage claimed. “I wasn’t content with where I was at, and I knew I had more to give.”

Cage appeared on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, confronting and attacking AEW Champion Kenny Omega. Although it has not been confirmed if that is a match AEW are considering going forward; it shows that the company believes the 47 year old Cage will be considered as a main event talent.

Paul Heyman Says Jey Uso is ‘Main Event Worthy’ Talent

0

WWE on screen personality and ‘Special Council To The Tribal Chief’ Paul Heyman recently spoke to GiveMeSport. The (former?) advocate of Brock Lesnar discussed a number of topics during the interview, including working with Roman Reigns and his cousin, Jey Uso.

“If you take a look at SmackDown’s global ratings, Jey Uso was not given the name tag ‘main event Jey Uso’ just because we placed him in the main event” Paul Heyman began.

“Jey Uso has been at the core of the resurgence of SmackDown ratings” stated the former ECW owner. “Since the end of September, he has been in more main events on SmackDown than anybody else on any of WWE’s brands – SmackDown, RAW, NXT, NXT UK…”

Paul Heyman on Jey Uso

Paul Heyman also stated that Jey Uso is not only ‘worthy’ of the main event; but the Samoan family member is a ‘picture-perfect’ example of a modern day main event caliber talent.

“And I also will offer that Jey Uso will be ‘main event Jey Uso’… worthy of the main event” Heyman claimed. “Indicative of the main event and a picture-perfect example of the modern-day main event in 2021. Jey Uso is at the top of his game, he’s never been better and Edge will learn that first hand on SmackDown.”

Jey Uso will be taking on Edge this Friday on SmackDown. The winner of the match will be the Special Enforcer for the Universal Championship match at WWE Fastlane this Sunday.

The New Day On Title Win: “Don’t Be Mad At Us For Doing Our Job”

0

The New Day were able to win tag team gold again on this week’s Monday Night Raw as they became 11-time tag team champions. They defeated the top tag team on the Raw brand — The Hurt Business’ Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin to become the new Raw Tag Team Champions. Fans weren’t too happy with this decision however, as the win was met with reactions like “Again?”, “Tired of seeing them as champs,” etc.

Another reason why New Day’s new title reign was met with bit of a negative reaction was because it put a halt to the momentum that The Hurt Business was enjoying going into WrestleMania 37 with Bobby Lashley as the WWE Champion. After their Raw match, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were interviewed backstage where they noted fans’ censure against their title win.

“We told a lot of people what was going to happen. A lot of people are upset — ‘Oh, we’re tired of seeing New Day as the champions!’ Don’t be mad at us, be mad at Cedric, be mad at Shelton for not being to keep the tag team championships,” Kofi Kingston hit back at the criticism. “Be mad at all your favorite tag teams for not being able to step up against your boys. Be mad at them, don’t be mad at us for doing our jobs. All we do is we go out there, we entertain, and we win championships. That’s it. Don’t be mad at us, be mad at your favorites.”

“This is our 11th time. When you’re a child you think, ‘I wanna be a WWE Superstar.’ You don’t even fathom the fact that you can possibly become 11-time WWE World Tag Team Champions and then it becomes your reality,” Xavier Woods said regarding his run as part of The New Day. “You feel that? Our dreams are sueños, have become our realidad. Don’t be mad at us. We are frothing at the mouth for more teams. Please believe it. We want to beat up new teams, we want to pin new teams, we want to make new teams tap out. So come to us, wherever you are.”

The New Day were also challenged to a match at WrestleMania 37 by AJ Styles and Omos who came out to the ring after New Day’s match. Styles said he has held all title in WWE except the tag team straps, and now he’s eyeing them. A match for the titles was later confirmed by WWE for WrestleMania.

Hurt Business defended their RAW Tag Team Championships against New Day during tonight’s episode. In addition to the takeaways below, Alexa Bliss challenged Randy Orton to a match at Fastlane and he later accepted.

RAW Results (3/15)

  2. Dana Brooke & Mandy Rose def. Naomi & Lana
  3. New Day def. Hurt Business to become new RAW Tag Team Champions
  4. Damian Priest def. Jaxson Ryker
  5. Asuka def. Shayna Baszler
  6. Riddle def. Mustafa Ali to retain the United States Championship
  7. Lashley def. Sheamus

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

McIntyre Will Face Lashley At WrestleMania

It was announced at the beginning of the show that Drew McIntyre will face Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. WWE Champion Bobby Lashley then made his way to the ring with MVP.

MVP said that they have entered the All Mighty Era and Lashley boasted about proving the doubters wrong. Lashley vowed to destroy McIntyre in the main event of WrestleMania before The Miz & John Morrison interrupted. The Miz claimed that they were just out here to congratulate Lashley but said that their rivalry was just getting started.

The Miz added that it is 3:16 week and did a Stone Cold impression while suggesting that Lashley face him at WrestleMania. Miz said he didn’t want to diminish any of Lashley’s accomplishments but had to defend the title twice in one night while suffering from cramps.

Drew McIntyre joined the party and walked right by The Miz and got into the ring with the WWE Champion. McIntyre noted that they have had similar paths with so many years traveling the roads and paying dues while opportunities kept passing them by. McIntyre added that they both weren’t in WWE and had to scratch and claw their way back.

McIntyre noted that he beat 30 other men to win the Royal Rumble and beat Brock Lesnar in five minutes to win the title. Drew joked that all Lashley did was make a deal with The Miz. McIntyre wondered why MVP was even here as Lashley can speak for himself. The Miz and Morrison hopped on the apron and Drew claimed that he forgot Miz was standing there. McIntyre told Miz that he is going to turn his back and finish the conversation with Lashley.

Drew added that if Miz tries to fight him tonight, he is going to injure him. McIntyre added that he will end the All Mighty Era at WrestleMania and get back the WWE Championship. Lashley then attacked McIntyre and Miz joined in on the beat down. Lashley left the ring and Sheamus jumped him on the entrance ramp as RAW went to a commercial break.

Sheamus was interviewed backstage and said he attacked Lashley because he wants to face McIntyre at 100% at Fastlane. Sheamus challenged Lashley to a match tonight as well.

Drew McIntyre Sent A Message To Bobby Lashley

McIntyre faced The Miz in the first match of the night. The Miz unloaded some punches but McIntyre quickly battled back. Drew bounced The Miz’s face off the turnbuckle and beat him down in the corner of the ring.

Drew launched Miz across the ring and then leveled him with a headbutt. John Morrison distracted McIntyre by throwing his sunglasses at him. McIntyre stomped on the sunglasses but Miz capitalized on the distraction with some punches.

McIntyre shrugged them off and connected with a Clothesline. Drew followed it up with a Reverse Alabama Slam and set up for the Claymore but Morrison dragged Miz out of the ring. The referee then kicked Morrison out from ringside as RAW went to a commercial break.

When RAW returned, The Miz booted McIntyre in the knee and planted him with a DDT for a near fall. Miz went for the Skull Crushing Finale but McIntyre countered into an Arm Drag and followed it up with a massive Clothesline. McIntyre once again hurled Miz across the ring and then hit a Neckbreaker.

McIntyre sent Miz out of the ring and drove him into the barricade. McIntyre slammed Miz into the ring apron and then onto the barricade again. Drew broke the referee’s count but quickly returned out of the ring and bashed Miz’s face off the steel steps several times.

Back in the ring, McIntyre connected with the Future Shock DDT and then the Claymore for the pinfall victory. After the match, McIntyre pointed at the WrestleMania sign before applying the Hurt Lock (Full Nelson) to The Miz in an effort to send a message to WWE Champion Bobby Lashley.

Braun Strowman Challenged Shane McMahon

Braun Strowman marched down to the ring tonight. Shane stopped on the entrance ramp and Strowman stated that his whole life he has been bullied by guys like McMahon. Shane stated that he finds Braun’s comments disgusting and he would never make fun of another human being. Strowman flipped out and challenged Shane to a match tonight. Shane McMahon said now he knows Braun Strowman is stupid and that it will be “Brain versus Braun” tonight.

Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke Picked Up A Win

Naomi & Lana squared off against Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke tonight. Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax joined commentary for the match. Shayna and Nia will defend the titles against SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair this Sunday at WWE Fastlane.

Mandy Rose connected with a Fallaway Slam and then sent Naomi to the corner. Dana tagged in and hit Naomi with a Splash. Rose tagged back in and connected with a knee to the face for a near fall. Naomi escaped and tagged in Lana.

Lana hit a series of kicks before planted Mandy Rose with a Bulldog. Lana then planted Mandy Rose with a Neckbreaker and went for the cover but Dana Brooke broke it up. Mandy and Dana slammed Naomi to the canvas. Mandy then planted Lana with a Suplex before RAW Women’s Champion Asuka’s music hit.

Asuka made her way down the entrance ramp and Shayna sprinted after her. Asuka booted Baszler in the face and unloaded some punches before Adam Pearce and some WWE officials broke it up. Mandy Rose rolled up Lana for a two count and Dana Brooke tagged back in. Lana hit Mandy with a Facebuster but Dana Brooke caught Lana with a Neckbreaker for the pinfall victory.

Styles & Omos Will Face New Day At WrestleMania

Hurt Business defended their RAW Tag Team Championships against New Day to begin the 2nd hour of this week’s show. Alexander and Woods started off the action. Woods applied a Headlock in the middle of the ring but Cedric reversed into an Arm Bar. Woods rolled up Alexander for a near fall and then connected with an Arm Drag.

Kingston tagged in and Cedric caught him with a boot to the face. Shelton Benjamin tagged in and planted Kingston with a Spinebuster for a near fall. Hurt Business dominated the next few minutes and kept Kingston isolated in the corner. Benjamin hopped out of the ring and sent Woods shoulder first into the steel steps and then tagged in Alexander.

Alexander perched Kofi up on the top turnbuckle and traded punches with him. Kofi got the better of the exchange and delivered a Dropkick off the top rope. Woods tagged in and knocked Hurt Business to the outside. New Day then tried to leap onto them but Hurt Business was ready and laid them out as RAW went to a break.

When RAW returned, Cedric and Xavier were trading Clotheslines in the ring. Alexander connected with a Michinoku Driver and went for the cover but Woods was able to kick out at the last moment. Kingston and Shelton tagged in and Benjamin hit an Enziguri for a near fall.

Omos stated that they should be RAW Tag Team Champions and AJ announced that they are a tag team now. Styles told Omos that it is his time to shine and they challenged New Day to a title match at WrestleMania. Kingston asked AJ if they were even registered as a tag team and then New Day accepted the match.

Top Matches Set For WWE Fastlane, Updated Card

0

New matches have been announced for the WWE Fastlane PPV.

On Monday night, the company confirmed that Drew McIntyre would face Sheamus in a singles match at this show. Shane McMahon vs. Braun Strowman has also been booked.

McIntyre and Sheamus have been at odds since dating back to early February.  It was originally reported WWE had plans for them to work a Last Man Standing Match at this show with the winner becoming the new #1 contender for the WWE Title and face Bobby Lashley for it at WrestleMania 37. However, WWE had other plans as they announced at the top of the Raw broadcast that McIntyre vs. Lashley would take place at Mania.

After a weird promo segment last week, WWE followed it up with them wrestling on Raw that ended with McMahon hitting an elbow drop off the top rope to send Strowman through a table. He then poured slim on Strowman to end the segment.

WWE presents the Fastlane pay-per-view event on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida that will air on the WWE Network and Peacock.

Updated WWE Fastlane Card

  • WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan
  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler vs. Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks

Asuka Returns To In-Ring Action On WWE Raw

0

After being on the sidelines, Asuka made her return to in-ring action on Monday Night Raw.

The Raw Women’s Champion did so by taking on Shayna Baszler in a non-title match on the show. The match saw Asuka score the pinfall victory as the champion reversed the Kirifuda Clutch into a roll-up. Following the match, Asuka shoved Baszler’s face into the turnbuckle with a kick.

Asuka had been out of action since the February 22nd episode of Raw when she worked a tag team bout alongside Charlotte Flair against Baszler and Nia Jax. This is where she was kicked in the mouth and lost a tooth.

There was speculation that she suffered a concussion when this happened, but since WWE doesn’t confirm this type of injury it wasn’t known until Dave Meltzer reported it last week.

Before WWE had announced Asuka was back, the uncertainty about her WrestleMania 37 status was brought up as the problem with a concussion is that someone could be fine in a short amount of time while in other instances it will keep a wrestler out of action for a long period of time. Thus, her match at Mania was in jeopardy of not happening, but that’s no longer the case.

Asuka is currently penciled in to defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 37.

The New Day Win WWE Raw Tag Team Titles, WrestleMania Match Confirmed

0

The New Day is not only just the top tag team on the Raw brand again, but they’ve also received opponents at WrestleMania 37.

During Monday’s Raw, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods beat Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander to win the Raw Tag Team Titles.

The finish saw Kofi catch Benjamin with a head kick then Woods hit with an elbow dive off the top rope and finally Kingston connected with a foot stomp off the top rope for the win.

As a result, the group has held gold 11-times. They have surpassed Dudley Boyz for the most Tag Team Championship reigns in WWE by a set of partners reigning together. Also, this marks Kingston’s 13th Tag Team Championship reign of his WWE career. He is just behind Edge for having the most total Tag Title reigns in WWE history by an individual Superstar.

The New Day Win WWE Raw Tag Team Titles, New WrestleMania Match Confirmed

After the match, AJ Styles came out to the ring for a promo where he talked about how he’s held all the titles in WWE except for the tag team straps. He and Omos challenged The New Day for the titles at WrestleMania 37.

Kingston questioned whether they were registered as a tag team or if they knew how to work as a pair. Woods accepted the challenge.

Bobby Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre Confirmed For WrestleMania 37

0

As expected, Bobby Lashley will defend the WWE Title against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 37.

WWE confirmed the match in the opening of Monday’s episode of Raw. The first segment saw Lashley cut a promo alongside MVP where he talked about how he destroyed McIntyre at Elimination chamber and will do so yet again at WrestleMania.

He vowed that he will reign supreme going forward because it’s the all-mighty era. McIntyre later came out to do a promo about facing Lashley and regaining the WWE Title. He said that they will knock the hell of each other and also called Lashley a “big bald b*tch.”

This match was expected to happen, but the way WWE handle it wasn’t as just like week it was reported the plan was for McIntyre to battle Sheamus at the upcoming Fastlane pay-per-view event in a Last Man Standing Match to determine the new #1 contender for the title. That clearly changed.

WWE presents the pay-per-view event on Saturday, April 10th, and Sunday, April 11, 2021 from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

Leyla Hirsch Signs With AEW

0

Leyla Hirsch has officially signed with All Elite Wrestling.

On Monday afternoon, the company’s president, Tony Khan, announced the signing on social media by writing the following:

“Congratulations and welcome aboard officially to @LegitLeyla Hirsch, I’m thrilled to have you signed to @AEW,” he wrote. “Thank you very much to Leyla and to all of you great fans who support @AEWonTNT for making this possible!”

Since last October, Hirsch has been wrestling regularly for AEW as she made her promotional debut in a losing effort against Hikaru Shida on an episode of AEW Dark. She continues to work Dark episodes in addition to appearing on AEW’s flagship show, Dynamite, on TNT.

She most recently worked the AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator tournament where she ended up losing to Thunder Rosa in the first round.

Hirsch broke into the business in 2017 where she regularly competed in CZW in addition to training in their dojo. She also worked for various promotions such as Stardom, Beyond Wrestling, and wXw. Hirsch also competed on a Bloodsport card last October.

WWE NXT Dealing With Another COVID-19 Outbreak

0

On Monday, it was reported that WWE NXT is dealing with another outbreak of those exposed to COVID-19.

Fightful first reported that there will be changes made to Wednesday’s NXT episode due to several wrestlers being pulled from the show outright or at least told to quarantine. It was later reported there were “lots of positive tests” over the past week. There was a meeting last Thursday seeing Performance Center trainees required to attend and some people were not taking the proper COVID-19 precautions.

It appears the outbreak may have started when wrestlers were doing ring crew work this past Thursday. Pwinsider.com reported this situation is being looked at as a possibility how the outbreak started as dozens of wrestlers were moving and resettling rings in Orlando. It was said many were not wearing masks during that process.

One person told the media outlet there needs to be far more enforcement of masks than there has been in some time and hopes this outbreak will cause the company to crack down on enforcement of people wearing masks.

Dave Meltzer reported wrestlers started getting sick last Friday and the rings were being moved at a building next door to the Performance Center. He mentioned people who have tested positive were there for the ring work while other people who have tested positive were not there for the ring work.

There’s still no word yet on which wrestlers tested positive for the virus, but no main roster wrestlers have been impacted by this latest coronavirus outbreak. It was said there are “substantial numbers” of positive tests for this outbreak in NXT.

Charlotte Flair To Star In “Walking Tall” Reboot

0

Charlotte Flair is slated to take part in the remake of the “Walking Tall” movie.

On Monday, Deadline reported writer/producer David Eick is currently developing a remake of the 1973 feature film. It was later remade with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the leading role.

It should be noted the new version with Flair is being produced for the USA Network with the idea of first doing a two-hour TV movie and hopefully making it into future installments as an ongoing series.

The WWE star will portray a Tucson, Arizona police officer who finds herself caught in a web of fraud, exploitation, and murder. She is forced to go full vigilante to protect her hometown from falling victim to modern corruption.

For fans of the films, it is similar to the role that Joe Don Baker played in the original movie and then for the remake in 2004 starring the former WWE Champion.

It’s being produced by Village Roadshow in association with WWE Studios, Mosaic, and Three Rivers. As of this writing, there’s no word yet as to exactly when the movie begins filming, or if Flair will need to take time off from WWE to do the project.

Update On When NXT Is Moving To Tuesday Nights

0

There have been several reports as of late that WWE NXT will be moving to Tuesday nights in the not-too-distant future. This has to do with NHL games possibly being broadcast on the USA Network on Wednesday nights soon. According to an update from PW Insider, it is looking as though the episodes of NXT directly following WrestleMania this year will be the first to air on Tuesday night.

The first Tuesday night episode is expected to air on April 13th, 2021.

Cody Rhodes and Shawn Michaels Comment On NXT Possibly Moving Nights

Shawn Michaels recently commented on NXT possibly moving to Tuesday nights:

“I think it would only be fair to say everyone knows that when you are not competing against another similar show that it makes it a little bit easier,” said Shawn Michaels to the New York Post. “It allows people to enjoy that. And then you think about the follow from Raw the next night. So, clearly, it certainly wouldn’t hurt.”

Cody Rhodes also commented on NXT possibly moving nights.

“Not trying to sound braggadocios, we have destroyed them [NXT] for over a year now in that space. Them leaving, perhaps that opens up a different viewership for us on Wednesdays,” Rhodes said to ESPN radio recently.

“We’re not reactionary to their booking and won’t change anything we do with what they decide to do on Wednesdays,” Cody continued.

“There are a lot of smart people who work for WWE and perhaps they are planning something else, maybe it’s Wednesday Night Raw for all I know. I’m not assuming their white flag, moving to Tuesday nights, is a true white flag. I’ll wait and see.”

Sami Zayn On Backstage Reaction To Him Mentioning AEW on RAW

Zayn noted recently that his mentioning AEW during one of his “Electric Chair” segments is what eventually led to the segments being dropped.

“So it wasn’t entirely, entirely off the cuff but it was off the cuff to a certain degree, and the reaction was, uh, let’s say unfavorable since the electric chair met its demise that very same week,” Zayn said to Sportskeeda last month.

“So it was right on everybody’s mind. It was super, super fresh and I think they had just announced this TV deal. They had just announced that this wasn’t just going to be a pay-per-view. This is going to be a competitor and all this sort of stuff. And they tell me that we’re doing this segment where it’s legitimately, you know, unplanned questions and anybody could ask anything. So at the time, this was the number one topic in the wrestling world. So you kind of expected to be asked about it.”

Britt Baker Talks Headlining AEW Dynamite This Week

0

Britt Baker will face Thunder Rosa in a Light’s Out match on Dynamite this week. The match has been announced as the main event of St. Patrick’s Day Slam. Technically, it has already been taped and will air on Wednesday but Baker spoke with SI.com recently about the match’s importance.

“There is only one chance at having the first-ever women’s main event, and I get to be part of it. This is a match you’re going to remember for a long time,” Baker said during the interview.

Baker responded when questioned about Hikaru Shida not being featured in the first-ever women’s main event on Dynamite. Baker feels she’s the biggest start in the division no matter who is the champion.

“I truly believe I am the biggest star of the women’s division,” Baker continued. “You could put me in the main event with one of Kenny Omega’s broom girls, and people are still going to watch it. I want to put all eyes on me when I come on TV.”

“This is a show that has the likes of Jon Moxley, Cody Rhodes, Matt Hardy, Penta and Eddie Kingston, and I’m the main event. Part of me can’t believe this is happening, while the other half is saying, damn right, it’s happening.”

Baker continued to say that her and Thunder Rosa will go all out this Wednesday night and put on a special show.

“You can say it’s because of Thunder Rosa; you can say it’s because of me, but we are going to add a lot of respect to the women’s division this Wednesday on Dynamite. We’re going to go all out,” Baker continued.

“We both have a different vision of who is pioneering this women’s division. Someone has to win; someone has to lose, but it’s going to be a fight. I promise this is going to be a can’t-miss main event match that people will be talking about for years.”

Good Brothers Comment On Losing Tag Titles To FinJuice

0

At Impact Wrestling’s Sacrifice on Saturday night, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows (The Good Brothers) dropped the tag belts to Juice Robinson and David Finlay (FinJuice).

With the win, FinJuice becomes the 37th team in history to win the belts. They begin the 56th reign in the title’s lineage. Santana & Ortiz hold the record for most combined days spent with the belts (662). Beer Money (James Storm & Bobby Roode) and Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards are tied for the record of most reigns with 5. Ethan Page and Josh Alexander hold the record for the longest single-reign with the belts at 380 days.

Karl Anderson took to Twitter to comment on the loss:

Brian Myers was evidently impacted by the loss as well:

David’s father, Fit Finlay, also commented:

Anderson and Gallows’ reign with the titles finished at 120 days. They originally won the titles from Ethan Page and Josh Alexander (The North) at Turning Point. The North had won and lost the titles to the Motor City Machine Guns. Alex Shelley, however, is not able to continue wrestling due to his non-wrestling career until after the pandemic. Chris Sabin has since been teaming with James Storm in Impact since Shelley is not currently able to wrestle.

Moose Comments On Loss To Rich Swann At Sacrifice

0

Rich Swann rolled Moose up into a pinning combination and got the 1-2-3 to close out Sacrifice on Saturday night. With the win, Swann moves on to next month’s Rebellion PPV to challenge Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship.

Former TNA Heavyweight Champion, Moose, took to Twitter to comment on the match and loss.

“Tonight I proved that I’m undoubtedly the Best Big Man in professional wrestling and one of the best wrestlers In the world. I came short of becoming the undisputed champion. Will take time off to reevaluate the past Rebuild Refocus Rebrand and think about the Future,” Moose Tweeted.

The finish of the match came after Moose had missed 4 straight spear attempts, crashing into the corner turnbuckle each time. The loss is seemingly the end of an era for Moose, who had been claiming to be the TNA Champion since the spring of 2020. With Swann moving on to a program with Omega, Moose will look to rebuild as he mentioned in his Tweet.

The show also featured Juice Robinson and David Finlay defeating the Good Brothers for the Impact tag-team championships. Rhino also turned heel and aligned with Eric Young’s Violent by Design faction. Ace Austin beat TJP to win the X-Division title.
