AEW Full Gear aired tonight from Daily\’s Place in Jacksonville. In addition to the takeaways below, Thunder Rosa confronted Serena Deeb after she succesfully defended the NWA Women\’s Championship during the Buy In.

Kenny Omega Is The #1 Contender For The AEW Championship
Kenny Omega battled Hangman Page in the finals of the World Title Eliminator Tournament. Don Callis joined commentary for the match.
Match Recap: Hangman refused to shake Omega\’s hand and the two locked up in the middle of the ring. Page connected with a couple shoulder tackles and followed it up with a chop to the throat. Kenny sent Page out of the ring with a Hurricanrana. Hangman hopped back in and leveled Omega with a boot to the face. Page followed it up with a Fallaway Slam and Kenny rolled to the ring apron to regroup.
Page hit Omega with a Suplex off the second rope for a near fall. The action spilled outside the ring and Page sent Omega into the barricade. Page tried to do it again but Omega hopped on top of the barricade and connected with a Moonsault. Back in the ring, Omega connected with a slam for a near fall.
Kenny followed it up with another Moonsault off the middle rope for a two count. Hangman battled back and hit Omega with a Clothesline that knocked him to the floor outside the ring. Hangman went for a Crossbody but Omega dodged it and connected with a Dropkick.
Omega flipped onto Hangman outside the ring. Back in the ring, Omega climbed to the top rope and connected with a Dropkick for a two count. Page booted Omega in the face and set up for the Buckshot Lariat. Kenny was ready and countered with a V-Trigger that sent Hangman tumbling to the entrance ramp.
Kenny followed Page out there and Hangman connected with a massive Powerbomb. Hangman hit another Powerbomb and went for the cover but Omega was able to kick out at the last moment. Omega connected with a Snap German Suplex but Hangman popped up and hit a Clothesline for a near fall.
Hangman went for the Buckshot Lariat but Omega ducked under it. Page rolled up Omega but Kenny was able to kick out at the last moment. Kenny hit a Dragon Screw and followed it up with a knee to the face. Omega dodged another Buckshot Lariat and hit Page with a V-Trigger. Omega then planted Hangman with the One Winged Angel. Kenny Omega is the #1 contender for the AEW Championship.
Opinion: I thought this match was awesome and a great way to begin Full Gear. The only complaint I have about this match is that it didn\’t go on for another ten minutes.
Orange Cassidy Picked Up A Win
Orange Cassidy battled John Silver tonight at Full Gear.
Match Recap: Cassidy put his hands in his pockets to start off the match. Silver went for a punch but Orange countered into an Arm Drag. Orange put his hands back in his pockets and hit a few lazy kicks. Cassidy leveled Silver with a Dropkick and posed for the crowd.
Silver planted Cassidy with a Body Slam and then ripped the pockets out of Orange\’s pants. Cassidy went for a DDT but Silver countered into a Suplex for a two count. Silver went for a Superplex but Cassidy blocked it. Cassidy connected with a Michinoku Driver for a two count.
John Silver hit Cassidy with a few kicks and rolled up Orange for a near fall. Cassidy connected with the Stundog Millionaire but turned around into the Spin Doctor from Silver for a two count. Cassidy hit the Orange Punch and then the Beach Break for the pinfall victory.
Darby Allin Captured The TNT Championship
Cody Rhodes defended the TNT Championship against Darby Allin tonight at Full Gear.
Match Recap: Cody controlled the action early and shoved Allin to the corner of the ring. Rhodes flexed and the two wrestlers locked up in the middle of the ring. Cody tripped Allin up and then mockingly offered him a hand. Allin hopped up and slapped Rhodes in the back of the head.
Rhodes rolled out of the ring and had a conversation with Arn Anderson. Allin connected with a Suicide Dive and then made his way to the top rope. Cody brought him down and then launched Darby onto the entrance ramp outside the ring.
Cody hit Allin with an Arm Drag and locked in an Armbar. Darby battled through the pain and got his toe on the ropes to break up the hold. Cody started doing pushups and Arn Anderson flipped out and told Rhodes to focus. Cody went for a Moonsault but Allin was able to get out of the way.
Allin planted Rhodes with a Destroyer for a near fall. Cody and Darby then battled on the turnbuckle. Cody connected with a Cross Rhodes off the top rope and went for the cover but Darby\’s arm was under the ropes. Rhodes started climbing up the turnbuckle but Darby locked in a Sleeper Hold.
Cody carried Darby all the way to the top rope and broke the hold with a Back Drop. Allin rolled out of the ring to regroup as Arn Anderson shouted at Darby to stay down. Rhodes hit Allin with a Body Slam for another two count. Cody went for the Disaster Kick but Allin countered into a cover for a near fall.
Allin hit Cody with a Stunner and made his way to the top rope. Darby connected with Coffin Drop and went for the cover but the TNT Champion was able to kick out at two. Cody and Darby traded roll-ups and Allin covered Rhodes to become the new TNT Champion. After the match, Cody presented Darby Allin with the TNT Championship as the crowd chanted \”you deserve it!\”.
Taz interrupted and said he needs a plastic bag because he is going to vomit. Taz told Darby and Cody to take their \”bitch asses\” to the back. Brian Cage and Ricky Starks then attacked Rhodes and Allin from behind. Starks leveled Arn Anderson and followed it up with a Spear to Allin. Cage and Starks had a tug of war over the TNT Championship before leaving the ring. Brian Cage slammed on top of a car and was about to slam the car door on his arm but Will Hobbs broke it up.
Hikaru Shida Retained The AEW Women\’s Championship
Hikaru Shida defended the AEW Women\’s Championship against Nyla Rose tonight at Full Gear. Vickie Guerrero was in Nyla\’s corner for the match.
Match Recap: Shida controlled the match early and hit Nyla with a Dropkick and then a knee to the face for a one count. Hikaru knocked Nyla to the ring apron and hit another running knee to Rose\’s face. Shida launched Nyla into the barricade and grabbed a steel chair from under the ring.
Hikaru set up the chair but turned around into a Clothesline from Nyla. Shida launched herself off the chair and hit a knee to the face that sent Nyla through the barricade. As the referee was distracted, Vickie Guerrero hit Shida with a cheap shot to the knee.
Nyla slammed Shida\’s knee into the ring post and then a chop block in the ring. Rose went for a Senton but Shida got out of the way. Hikaru leveled Rose with a shoulder tackle and went for the cover but Rose kicked out at two. Shida planted Nyla with a Suplex for another near fall.
Rose slammed Shida to the canvas and went for the cover but Hikaru kicked out at two. Nyla draped Shida across the top rope and hit a Knee Drop to Hikaru\’s injured knee for a near fall. Rose climbed to the middle rope but Shida caught her with a punch to the face. Shida followed it up with a boot to the face that sent Nyla to the entrance ramp.
Shida connected with a Dropkick and brought Nyla back into the ring. Hikaru hit another Dropkick off the top rope for a two count. Shida went for the running knee strike but Nyla countered with a Powerbomb. Rose followed it up with a running knee to the face and went for the cover but the AEW Women\’s Champion kicked out at two.
Shida sent Rose to the corner and hit her with a knee to the face. Hikaru perched Nyla up on the top turnbuckle and connected with a massive Falcon Arrow. Shida went for the cover but pulled Nyla up at two.
Hikaru went for the running knee but Vickie tripped her up. Nyla shoved Shida to the floor outside the ring as Aubrey Edwards ripped the kendo stick away from Vickie. Back in the ring, Shida hit another Falcon Arrow for a two count. Hikaru followed it up with the running knee and once again Rose kicked out at two. Shida then kneed Nyla in the face four times in a row for the pinfall victory. Hikaru Shida is still AEW Women\’s Champion. After the match, Vickie Guerrero yelled at Nyla and slapped her in the face.
Young Bucks Are The New Tag Team Champions
FTR defended the AEW Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks tonight at Full Gear. The Young Bucks can not challenge for the titles again if they lose the match.
Match Recap: Matt hobbled around the ring and locked up with Cash Wheeler. Matt sent Cash out of the ring and Wheeler took his time getting back in the ring. Harwood and Nick Jackson tagged in and locked up in the middle of the ring. Dax applied a Headlock but Nick escaped and planted Harwood with a Body Slam.
Young Bucks isolated Cash in the corner and took turns beating him down. Young Bucks connected with a couple Hurricanranas that sent FTR out of the ring. Harwood went for a punch but Matt got out of the way and Dax smashed his hand off the ring post.
Back in the ring, Matt unloaded some punches and stomped Harwood down to the canvas. Matt started bending back Harwood\’s fingers and kicked his hand several times. Harwood hit Matt with a boot to the midsection and sent him out of the ring. Cash slammed Matt\’s knee up against the barricade as Harwood got his hand taped up. Cash slammed Matt\’s knee into the ring post as Nick pleaded for a tag.
Harwood planted Matt with a Superplex and Wheeler went for a Splash but Matt got his knees up. Matt rolled up Dax for a two count and then Harwood threw him out of the ring. Cash tagged in and went for a Splash but Matt got out of the way and Cash crashed into the barricade.
Dax tagged in and prevented Matt from tagging out. Matt sent Wheeler out of the ring with a Back Body Drop and then delivered a DDT to Dax. Nick Jackson finally got the tag and he unloaded some right hands on FTR. Nick followed it up with a Bulldog/Clothesline combo on FTR outside the ring.
Nick rolled Cash into the ring and hit him with a Crossbody. Wheeler rolled through and tagged in Dax. FTR hit the Hart Attack for a near fall. Matt tagged in and leveled Cash with a Spear for a two count. FTR planted Matt with a Bulldog and then Wheeler hit Nick with a Spear on the apron.
Nick hit Harwood and Wheeler with a couple Superkicks and then tagged in. Matt hit Harwood with the Twist of Fate and then Nick followed it up with a Swanton Bomb off the top rope for a near fall. Dax planted Nick with a Powerbomb and then traded punches with Matt in the middle of the ring.
Matt booted Dax in the chest but dropped to a knee to sell the knee injury. Matt and Dax hit a punch and a Superkick at the same time and both men fell to the canvas. Harwood leveled Matt with a powerful Clothesline and tagged in Wheeler. FTR paid homage to DIY and hit Matt with the Meeting in the Middle for a near fall.
Nick knocked Wheeler to the entrance ramp and hit him with a Splash. Matt then locked in a Sharpshooter on Dax in the middle of the ring as the crowd chanted \”tap!\”. Harwood reached the ropes to break the hold but Nick hit his injured hand with a Superkick. Nick then got Cash in a Sharpshooter on the entrance ramp.
Matt\’s knee gave out and Dax finally broke the hold. Young Bucks then hit the BTE Trigger and went for the cover but Wheeler broke it up at two. Nick Clotheslined Cash out of the ring and tagged in Matt. Nick flipped onto Wheeler outside the ring as Matt brought a steel chair into the ring. Dax dared Matt to hit him with the chair as Nick pleaded with him to stop.
Young Bucks set up for the Meltzer Driver but Cash Powerbombed Nick through a table. FTR hit Matt with the Mindbreaker and went for the cover but Matt got his foot on the ropes to break it up. Dax took off Matt\’s boot and Cash stomped on Matt\’s knee. Dax applied an Ankle Lock but Nick broke it up with a 450 Splash. Matt went for the cover but Harwood kicked out at the last moment.
Cash hit Nick with a Superkick that sent him tumbling to the floor outside the ring. Wheeler then tagged in and flipped off Matt. Cash booted Matt Jackson in the face and went for a springboard 450 Splash but Matt got out of the way. Matt then hit Cash with a Superkick for the pinfall victory. The Young Bucks are the new AEW Tag Team Champions.
Opinion: Young Bucks and FTR delivered an excellent match tonight and I\’m looking forward to watching this teams battle several more times in the future.
Matt Hardy Deleted Sammy Guevara
Matt Hardy faced Sammy Guevara in a Elite Deletion match tonight at Full Gear. Sammy arrived to the Hardy Compound in a golf cart and it was disabled by Neo the drone. Matt then arrived in a monster truck and ran over the golf cart. Hardy said that was orgasmic before exiting the monster struck. Hardy said \”that was a squash job\” and started looking for Sammy.
Guevara hit Matt with a trash can and followed it up with a Moonsault off the truck for a two count. Hardy connected with a Suplex for a near fall. Matt launched Sammy into a tree but Guevara battled back with a kick to the face out in front of Hardy\’s house.
Sammy tried to drown Matt in a fountain but Matt grabbed a sceptre and beat the hell out of Guevara. Hardy and Sammy then battled to a ring set up in the woods. Matt connected with the Side Effect and went for the cover but Sammy kicked out at two. Hardy set up a table in the ring and shouted that it was over.
Matt connected with a Powerbomb through the table and went for the cover but Santana and Ortiz broke it up. Private Party showed up as Sammy connected with the Twist of Fate on Matt Hardy. Private Party beat Santana and Ortiz down as Matt grabbed some fireworks from under the ring.
Guevara hit Matt with a Spear and ran away. Hardy lit the fireworks and started shooting them around the ring. Sammy then did the same and Matt charged across the battlefield as Private Party beat the hell out of Santana & Ortiz. Matt continued to shoot fireworks at Sammy as he rolled around in the mud.
Hardy planted Sammy with the Twist of Fate as a masked man showed up with Hurricane Shane Helms. It was revealed to be Gangrel and Private Party attacked him. Matt then freed Hurricane Helms and turned around into a Superkick from Sammy. Guevara threw Helms into the Lake of Reincarnation and then hit Matt with a Superkick.
Helms showed back up as an interviewer and Sammy threw him into the Lake of Reincarnation again. Matt and Sammy battled to the ring as Hurricane Helms returned. Ganrgel planted Hurricane with a DDT as Santana hit Matt with a bat to the midsection.
Sammy then chased Matt into the woods with the baseball bat as Santana choked Hurricane in the ring. Matt and Sammy then battled into the Dome of Deletion. Guevara bounced Matt\’s head off the ring post. Sammy unhooked the turnbuckle hook and slammed the steel into Matt\’s ribs. Guevara wrapped the ring rope around Matt\’s neck and choked him before setting him up on the table set up in the ring. Sammy climbed to the top of a ladder and hit a Swanton Bomb for a two count.
Hardy hit another Twist of Fate and both men fell to the canvas. Matt followed it up with a Spear through a table next to the ring and Sammy\’s head was busted open. Matt smashed Sammy in the face with the steel chair and then smashed it once again over his head for the pinfall victory. After the match, Private Party put Sammy in a garbage can and loaded him onto a truck. Hardy told Senor Benjamin to take this obsolete rubbish away as Reby plated the piano.
Opinion: I found this completely ridiculous but wildly entertaining. I like how AEW is embracing matches like this and allowing their performers to be creative. I\’m sure those that are stuck in the past and hated everything about this. I thought it was fun as hell. It wasn\’t as good as the Boneyard match or Stadium Stampede but it was still an enjoyable cinematic match. I could have lived without commentary during this match as well.
MJF Outsmarted Jericho & Is Now A Part Of Inner Circle
MJF battled Chris Jericho tonight at Full Gear. MJF could join Inner Circle if he won the match.
Match Recap: Jericho controlled the match early but MJF exploded out of the corner with a Clothesline. Chris battled back and sent MJF into the barricade. Jericho hit MJF with a Body Slam and took over one of the cameras. Jericho gave MJF the finger before giving the camera back. MJF went to work on Jericho\’s arm when the action returned to the ring.
Jericho went for a Bulldog but MJF countered and sent Chris into the turnbuckle. Chris unloaded some right hands to MJF\’s face and followed it up with a Frankensteiner for a two count. Jericho brought MJF back up to the top rope and went for a Superplex but MJF blocked it.
MJF stomped on Jericho\’s arm and slammed him to the canvas for a two count. MJF called Jericho a bitch and started punching him in the face. Jericho hit MJF with a chop to the chest but MJF shrugged it off. MJF applied the Salt of the Earth Armbar but Jericho quickly escaped.
Jericho locked MJF in the Walls of Jericho but MJF reached the bottom rope to break the hold. Chris celebrated as if he won before stomping on MJF\’s midsection several times. MJF hit Jericho with the Codebreaker and then a Piledriver for a near fall. MJF went for a Lionsault but Jericho got out fo the way and connected with a Codebreaker for a two count.
Jericho went for the Judas Effect but MJF countered into the Salf of the Earth Armbar in the middle of the ring. Jericho was able to the reach the bottom rope to break up the hold. Wardlow came down the entrance ramp and gave MJF the Dynamite Diamond ring.
Jake Hager threw Floyd the bat into the ring as Aubrey Edwards turned around. MJF fell to the canvas and made it seem like Jericho hit him. Aubrey and Jericho argued and MJF capitalized with a roll-up for the pinfall victory. After the match, Jericho and MJF shared a hug. Jericho welcomed MJF and Wardlow to Inner Circle.
Jon Moxley Retained The AEW Championship
Jon Moxley defended the AEW Championship against Eddie Kingston in a I Quit match in the main event.
Match Recap: Moxley and Kingston traded chops to start the match off. They then started slapping each other in the face and Kingston connected with a Belly to Belly Suplex. The action spilled out of the ring and Moxley sent Eddie into the barricade. Jon snapped back Eddie\’s fingers and hit him with a couple punches to the face.
Jon planted Kingston with a Suplex on the concrete floor but Eddie refused to quit. Moxley applied a choke but Eddie broke it up by biting Jon\’s arm. Kingston hurled Moxley into the barricade and threw a chair into the ring.
Moxley grabbed a barbed wire bat and hit Kingston several times with it. Jon raked Eddie\’s face with the barbed wire but Eddie refused to quit. Kingston planted Moxley with a couple of Suplexes and then threw the chair into Jon\’s face. Eddie removed some barbed wire from the bat and wrapped it around his fist.
Kingston unloaded a flurry of right hands to Moxley\’s face as the blood poured down. Eddie started laughing and hit Moxley with an elbow to the face. Kingston applied a Kimura Lock but Moxley broke free by biting Eddie on the leg.
Jon hit Kingston with a Suplex on top of a couple of steel chairs. Kingston popped up and leveled Moxley with a Clothesline. Kingston poured thumbtacks all over the canvas and the two men traded German Suplexes. Jon leveled Kingston with a Clothesline as a \”Moxley!\” chant broke out.
Eddie connected with a German Suplex and Moxley crashed onto the tacks. Kingston grabbed rubbing alcohol from the timekeeper\’s area and then hit Moxley with a low blow in the ring. Kingston poured the rubbing alcohol all over the wounds from the tacks and Jon screamed in agony but would not quit.
Kingston locked in the Bulldog Choke but Moxley didn\’t give up. Moxley broke free and planted Kingston with a Piledriver. Jon followed it up with the Paradigm Shift and told Kingston to give up. Eddie flipped the referee the finger as Moxley wrapped barbed wire around his arm. Moxley then locked in the Bulldog Choke with the barbed wire and Eddie had no choice but to quit. Jon helped Kingston up but Eddie shoved him away. Kenny Omega came down the entrance ramp and stared at Moxley to end the show.
Opinion: Moxley and Kingston had the brutal and violent match that everybody was expecting. It was a very entertaining match and it capped off a 4+ hour PPV that absolutely flew by. Overall, Full Gear had a little bit of everything and it wound up being a great show in my opinion.
