José Guadalupe Fuentes Ochoa, the longtime lucha libre rudo known as Babe Face, has died at 79. Maryland Championship Wrestling is also mourning Jose “Jacobs” Trujillo, a former member of its roster, who died at 30.
El Hijo del Santo, one of Fuentes Ochoa’s career rivals, shared the news on X. “I deeply regret the passing of my dear ‘Baby Face’ José Guadalupe Fuentes Ochoa,” he wrote in Spanish, listing the dates August 31, 1947 to September 25, 2026. “Great figure of Mexican Wrestling and beloved professional companion. Rest in peace.”
No cause of death has been made public.
A Rudo Despite The Name
Nicknamed “El Cañonero de Colima,” Fuentes Ochoa debuted in 1970 and spent nearly his entire career as a hated rudo, an odd fit for a ring name that suggested a fan favorite. He was one of the original members of the Universal Wrestling Association roster at Toreo de Cuatro Caminos and also worked for EMLL/CMLL and AAA.
His signature run came with the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship, which he won in 1981 and held for 570 days. He crossed paths with El Hijo del Santo, El Perro Aguayo and Huracán Ramírez, and toured Japan with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Those trips shaped his life after wrestling. Fuentes Ochoa learned to cook rice Japanese-style while on tour and later ran a food business near Arena México in Mexico City’s Colonia Doctores, where fans still knew his name.
MCW Mourns Jose Trujillo
MCW Pro Wrestling announced Trujillo’s death on X, noting his time with the Maryland promotion was brief but that “he was part of our locker room and part of the wrestling community we all share.”
“Beyond the character and the matches was a young man with family, friends, and people who cared deeply about him,” the promotion wrote. “30 years old is far too young.”
MCW did not disclose a cause of death.
