CMLL’s 93rd Anniversary takes over a sold-out Arena México tonight, and the main event could cost one of lucha libre’s biggest names his mask. Místico and his longtime enemy Averno are forced to team in a four-way elimination where the last team standing turns on itself in a mask-or-hair match, with three masks and five heads of hair in play across the eight men involved.

Main Event: Místico & Averno vs. Último Guerrero & Templario vs. Zandokan Jr. & Star Jr. vs. Bárbaro Cavernario & Dragón Rojo Jr.

• The setup: Místico and Averno signed on CMLL Informa to put mask and hair on the line, and the company folded them into this elimination format alongside three other feuding pairs.
• The history: The rivalry goes back to the mid-2000s. “It’s more than 20 years of rivalry,” Místico said on CMLL Informa, and this is the first time the two will settle it at an Aniversario.
• The receipts: Averno has spent weeks tearing at Místico’s mask, and after the two won as a team over Zandokan Jr. and Star Jr. on September 4, Averno turned on his partner and ripped the mask off again.
• The statement: “He wants my hair, I want his mask,” Averno told Grupo Animal, framing the other six men as obstacles on the way to Místico.
• The other grudges: Templario and Último Guerrero carry a teacher-versus-student feud, Dragón Rojo Jr. and Bárbaro Cavernario are in a mask-versus-hair war, and Zandokan Jr. has promised Star Jr., “You’re going to end up bald.”
• What’s at stake: Only one of these pairings reaches the Apuestas finish. If Místico and Averno survive, the Arena México crowd gets the match it has waited two decades for, months after Místico spent time sidelined with an injury this spring.

CMLL World Heavyweight Championship: Hechicero (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

Hechicero defends the top prize against a former champion and a technician chasing his first CMLL gold.

• The reign: Hechicero, who works under a dual AEW and CMLL contract, won the title from Castagnoli in March for his second run with the belt. His most recent defense came against Eddie Kingston.
• The history: Castagnoli is the man Hechicero dethroned, so this is his first shot at getting the belt back on the Aniversario stage.
• The challenger: Zack Sabre Jr. has never held a CMLL championship, and he was booked early in the trip alongside TMDK stablemate Bad Dude Tito against Hechicero and Esfinge.
• The wrinkle: The three-way format means Hechicero can lose the title without being pinned or submitted himself.

Andrade El Idolo vs. Volador Jr.

Thirteen years after taking Volador Jr.’s mask, the reigning AEW National Champion returns to Arena México to face him again.

• The history: As La Sombra, Andrade teamed with Volador Jr. before they turned on each other. At the 80th Aniversario in September 2013, La Sombra won their mask-versus-mask match.
• The personal layer: Andrade lost his own mask at Arena México in 2015. In a video posted by CMLL announcing the match, he said Volador Jr. knows that humiliation only because of him, and vowed to humiliate him again.
• The wrinkle: Andrade has a quick turnaround, with a match against Daniel Garcia advertised for Saturday’s AEW Collision.

CMLL World Women’s Championship: Persephone (c) vs. Tessa Blanchard vs. Mina Shirakawa vs. Starlight Kid

Persephone brings two titles into a four-way where the only belt on the line is her CMLL gold.

• The reign: Persephone won the AEW TBS Championship from Maya World at All In: London when Britt Baker returned in a mask to help her, making her a double champion.
• The personal layer: She told The Sportster’s MuscleMan Malcom that the dual contract is “fantastic but at the same time, it’s chaotic,” describing landing from Wembley on a Monday, wrestling at Arena México on Tuesday, and flying out for Dynamite on Wednesday.
• The flashpoint: Blanchard has been feuding with Persephone in Arena México, and she and Johnnie Robbie beat Persephone and Reyna Isis in tag action in August.

Bandido vs. Soberano Jr.

The AEW star returns to CMLL for a grudge match built through months of multi-man fights.

• The setup: Bandido and Soberano Jr. have crossed paths repeatedly in tag and trios matches this year, with the violence escalating over the past month.
• The backstory: Bandido teamed with Komander as Titanes del Aire at CMLL’s International Weekend in January, when they beat Místico and Máscara Dorada.
• What’s at stake: Bragging rights between two of the fastest workers on the card, with no title attached.

CMLL World Welterweight Championship: Titán (c) vs. Komander

Komander gets a second crack at the longest reign in the title’s history.

• The reign: Titán won the vacant title by beating Soberano Jr. in a tournament final on December 8, 2019, and has held it for nearly seven years.
• The history: The two met for the first time on January 18 at CMLL’s International Weekend, with Titán retaining in his first defense since September 2024.
• What’s at stake: Komander, who has become a crowd favorite at Arena México this year, needs to be the one to finally end the reign.

CMLL World Tag Team Championships: Ángel de Oro & Niebla Roja (c) vs. Los Villanos vs. El Sky Team vs. Los Hermanos Calavera

Los Hermanos Chávez defend against three teams in a four-way.

• The challenge: Hijo del Villano III and Villano III Jr. were the first challengers named, followed by Máscara Dorada and Neón.
• The missing piece: Calavera Jr. I and Calavera Jr. II claimed the final spot through a qualifier at Arena México on September 11, beating out Difunto and Furia Roja and Xelhua and Guerrero Maya Jr.
• The wrinkle: AEW’s Máscara Dorada gives the challengers a dual-contracted name with plenty of Arena México history.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Blue Panther

Jarrett called out the Maestro Lagunero on CMLL Informa, and the veterans get their first-ever singles meeting.

• The challenge: Jarrett issued a direct challenge on the September 9 edition of CMLL Informa, and the match was quickly made official.
• The backstory: Jarrett is new to CMLL but not to Mexico, having worked regularly for AAA from 2004 to 2025 and holding its Mega Championship.
• What’s at stake: Pride for two veterans with decades in the ring, and a rare Aniversario booking for an American legend.
