Backstage Update On Moving Kenny Omega vs. MJF To AEW Dynamite

ByAndrew RavensProfessional Wrestling Journalist

The decision to move MJF’s AEW World Championship defense against Kenny Omega from Redemption to next week’s Dynamite was made very recently and without a clear public explanation, according to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio.

All I know is they decided to move the MJF Kenny Omega matchup. I don’t know why. This was apparently something that was decided very recently, clearly because it’s a Canadian show called Redemption, and that was gonna be the match. And then somebody decided, we’re gonna do it next week.

Redemption is a Canadian pay-per-view event, making MJF vs. Omega — a match with Canadian connections given Omega’s roots — a natural fit for the card. The late decision to pull the match and air it on free television instead has not been explained publicly by AEW.

Updated Card For Next Week’s AEW Dynamite

  • AEW World Champion MJF defends against Kenny Omega
  • AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita defends against Kyle Fletcher
  • Casino Gauntlet match for Women’s World title shot at Redemption
  • Tommaso Ciampa vs. Chris Jericho
