Former WWE Champion Big E was only halfway through a multi-year WWE contract when the broken neck ended his in-ring career. It took him off television, leaving roughly two and a half years and presumably millions of dollars still on the table.
It is the first time the former WWE Champion has attached a concrete contractual figure to what he stood to lose the day everything changed.
The injury happened four years ago and forced Big E into retirement from in-ring competition. He has not wrestled since.
Speaking on The A2theK Wrestling Show, Big E detailed exactly where he was in his deal when the injury occurred.
I think when I broke my neck, I was only about halfway through my five-year deal so I still had about another two and a half years on my wrestling contract.
Big E is currently serving as a WWE ambassador and co-hosts the company’s Premium Live Event kickoff and post-shows, keeping him on television in a non-wrestling capacity.
In the same interview, he also addressed his New Day brothers, Kofi Kingston and Austin Creed, better known as Xavier Woods, departing WWE. For more on where Big E stands with the promotion following the New Day breakup, see our backstage update on his WWE future.
