Chelsea Green Rejects Interim Label: "I'm Permanent"

Chelsea Green isn’t accepting the asterisk. Four days after climbing a ladder at SummerSlam to win the Interim WWE Women’s Championship, Green pushed back on the notion that her reign carries a qualifier, pointing to the noise inside U.S. Bank Stadium as her evidence.

It feels like the real deal to me. And you know why? It’s because that reaction I got when I pulled the title down,” Green told Shakiel Mahjouri. “I know the word interim is getting to people, but it’s not getting to me. I’m ‘permanent’ to me.

Chelsea Green DEFENDS Michael Hayes After SummerSlam Dig: ‘No Regrets!’

Green outlasted Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend in the five-woman ladder match on Night 2. The interim championship was created because reigning WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley was unable to defend the title through injury, with WWE opting to crown a placeholder champion rather than vacate the belt outright.

The Undertaker’s Backing

Part of Green’s confidence traces back to February, when The Undertaker defended her on his Six Feet Under podcast and called her underutilized. He later texted her directly to repeat it.

The fact that one of the biggest names in sports entertainment history stood up for me and then doubled down… told me to my face what I need to do to be bigger and better than I’ve ever been before,” Green said. “All of that means the world to me.

Where Michael Hayes Fits In

Green dedicated the win to Michael Hayes on the SummerSlam post-show, a callback to his WWE Unreal remark that her job was to build up performers like Flair and Stratton rather than occupy that spot herself. She has since said Hayes was telling the truth about her role at the time, and she doesn’t carry the grudge some fans have adopted on her behalf.

I wish that what he said wasn’t cropped and edited to make it seem like that’s all he said because I know in my heart that he probably had a million kind things to say about me,” Green said.

Triple H and Natalya were among those who congratulated Green backstage after the match.
