Chelsea Green has no idea what WWE intends to do with the Interim WWE Women’s Championship once Rhea Ripley is medically cleared, and she says nobody in the company has filled her in.
Asked on Complex Graps this week whether WWE had explained how the interim title resolves when Ripley returns, Green made clear the plan hasn’t been shared with the champion holding the belt.
I don’t have any idea what’s happening tomorrow, okay? I don’t know who I’m talking to an hour from now for media. I have no idea what’s going on, but I love to fly by the seat of my pants.
The answer landed in the same week the timeline got noticeably longer. Ripley confirmed on Instagram that she underwent surgery on the injured knee, the first procedure of a career spanning nearly 14 years, after tearing her meniscus against Jade Cargill at Clash in Italy on May 31.
How The Interim Title Came About
WWE never stripped Ripley of the championship. Adam Pearce ruled her out of SummerSlam on July 17 and announced that an interim champion would be crowned instead of vacating the belt, a first for the main roster.
Green then climbed the ladder past Charlotte Flair, Cargill, Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend on August 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Pearce’s stated framing was that Ripley would face the interim champion upon returning to settle which reign counts.
Surgery pushes that meeting further out than WWE’s July messaging suggested. Ripley offered no return date, and the company has not publicly updated her status since SummerSlam.
Green Isn’t Waiting On The Answer
The lack of a stated plan hasn’t dampened her view of the reign. Green has already rejected the idea that the interim label carries an asterisk, pointing to the Minneapolis crowd reaction as her proof.
She is advertised for Friday’s SmackDown, her first televised appearance since winning the title.
