Chris Jericho will portray Gorgeous George in The Greatest, the Prime Video limited series that chronicles the life of Muhammad Ali, Deadline reports. All eight episodes arrive Wednesday, November 4, and Jericho makes his first appearance in episode four.
Gorgeous George was one of wrestling’s first true mainstream celebrities, a television sensation whose flamboyance, swagger and mastery of self-promotion famously influenced a young Ali. Deadline says Jericho appears “curls and all.”
Jericho, who recently challenged Nick Wayne to a rubber match at AEW WrestleDream, joins a cast led by Jaalen Best as Ali. Ben Watkins created and executive produces the series, the first authorized scripted production about Ali’s life. Lonnie Ali, Ali’s widow, also executive produces alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society and other production companies.
The link between the two men is well documented. Ali was 19 and still going by Cassius Clay when he met George in Las Vegas in 1961, and he later credited the wrestler with teaching him to draw crowds by boasting.
