Cody Rhodes says he has not one but two potential unfinished stories with the Rock.
The tensions between The American Nightmare and The Great One have continued after their WrestleMania 40 showdown, with the Hollywood star showing up on TV periodically to throw a wrench in the WWE Champion’s way. While The Great One himself has said that their rivalry does not have to culminate in a match, many believe that a one-on-one between the two has a bigger appeal now than The Rock vs. Roman Reigns.
The WWE Quarterback discussed the state of his feud with the Attitude Era star once again during his recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s show. He was asked if he feels the need to finish the story with the TKO board member before the end of his in-ring career.
Cody Rhodes first mentioned that Dwayne Johnson has become a fixture in his career and his life over the past few years and said that the Final Boss is probably one of the better characters we’ve seen in a while. The SmackDown star then made an interesting claim, saying that he has not one but two unfinished stories he can pursue with The Rock:
I don’t want to give it an absolute and say that we do have to settle that, but I think it’s an unfinished story. There’s probably two unfinished stories that are out there, and they don’t always get finished. You know, wrestling is— there’s a lot of fantasy booking, there’s a lot of ways, but there’s, there’s a lot that goes into it.
Follow His Lead: Cody Rhodes
The former AEW star explained his comments, mentioning that to a wrestling fan the more appealing version is to see the two stepping in a ring for a fight. Cody Rhodes explained however, that he could also finish his story with The Rock by following in his footsteps in Hollywood:
There’s a version of this where finishing that story is me trying to be as successful as I possibly can be, follow a bit of, if not a lot of, his lead, break into TV and Hollywood and do something that he thought only he could do, and do that to honor him.
Then there’s a version of it that’s probably more appealing to a wrestling fan where the final boss shows back up and there is more— there’s more on the rose than a non-ending.
The WWE star has been featured in a number of big Hollywood projects in recent years. Though elsewhere in the interview, Rhodes also suggested that he will not be resorting to a part-time schedule until someone else takes his place as the face of WWE. So it’s unlikely that he will be leaving the wrestling business for an extended period to follow a movie career like the Final Boss anytime soon.
