Dominik Mysterio (c) will defend the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano in the main event of Triplemania 34, and the two are scheduled to come face to face tonight on AAA on FOX from the Coliseo Centenario in Torreon, Coahuila.
The match was confirmed during the third and final week of Verano de Escandalo on August 8, with Corey Graves stating on commentary that it would headline the event. AAA has not announced which of the two nights it lands on.
That detail is worth watching. Triplemania 34 runs across two nights for the first time, opening Friday, September 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas before closing Sunday, September 13 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. Night one was originally booked for the smaller Luxor venue and moved after demand outstripped the room.
How The Two Got Here
They were briefly partners. On July 25, in the opening week of Verano de Escandalo from Arena San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Mysterio and Americano teamed as Los Gringos Locos 2.0 against Daga and Angel of Los Perros del Mal.
With the match in the balance, Americano reached for a tag and Mysterio stepped off the apron, leaving him to be pinned. Mysterio then walked to the stage and shook hands with Dorian Roldan, joining El Ojo alongside Omos while Rey Mysterio watched on.

In a sit-down interview with Andrea Bazarte on the August 8 episode, Mysterio said Americano had questioned whether he could be trusted against Los Perros del Mal, and that was reason enough to walk. He traced the resentment further back, to Americano shaking hands with Rey Mysterio at Guerra de Titanes.
Mysterio argued that his own months away from AAA are the only reason Americano became a hero in Mexico, and promised to end that run at Triplemania, insisting Americano will always be second best. On the alliance with Roldan, he said he was angry that his father was installed as AAA general manager over Roldan, and that the two of them understand each other as sons of disappointing parents. Liv Morgan turned up at the end of the segment for a staredown with Bazarte.
Away from the storyline, Mysterio has separately been reported to be frustrated that the serious presentation he gets in AAA does not carry over to WWE television.
Tonight In Torreon
Beyond the face to face, the card features an appearance from WWE Intercontinental Champion Penta, Rey Fenix (c) defending the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship against Noisy Boy, and La Parka against Psycho Clown in the tournament to determine Roman Reigns’ challenger in Mexico City. The show airs at 8pm ET on FOX in Mexico and 10pm ET on YouTube in the United States.
