Eva Marie Explains Why She Got Red Hair Against WWE Orders

Eva Marie has revealed why she dyed her hair red for her first WWE run.

The former WWE star recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet for an interview. She discussed topics such as her infamous wardrobe malfunction segment, opening up about her struggles with addiction on Total Divas, and more.

During the session, Eva Marie also told the story behind her red hair that gave her a unique look and made her stand out during her first WWE run. The female star, whose natural hair color is black, recalled getting the call from WWE office offering her the job. The instruction that was given to her at the time was to go blonde so she didn't overshadow the Bella Twins:

When I got a call on Saturday saying that I got the job, they mentioned a lot of the girls that have left were platinum blonde. Because the twins are Mexican-Italian too, so we don’t want you to look like one of The Bella Twins. Are you okay with changing your hair to platinum blonde? I didn’t care. I was like, Yeah, sure, whatever.

Like Mufasa From Lion King: Eva Marie

When Eva Marie finally went to the salon to get the blonde look, however, she realized that it would not work for her. Marie, whose mom was a hairdresser, claimed that maintaining the blonde look would have ruined her hair completely. So in that moment, she made the decision to dye her hair red instead, taking inspiration from Rihanna:

I’m in the chair, and they’re stripping my hair color from previous colors and stuff, and it starts to kind of look orangey. I literally look at JoJo and I was like; I can’t do it. I literally say in the chair, I look like Mufasa from The Lion King. I look insane. It looks terrible. It’s orange. There is no way.

Well, I was listening to Rihanna’s album at the time, it was when she had that crazy fire-red hair. I think her album was called Loud at the time. I was like, dude, her hair is sick. It was just such a fire engine red. I was like, f*ck it. Let’s go red.

The former wrestling star noted that it was a huge gamble on her part since she was going against the edict of Vince McMahon and other higher-ups. Though she decided to go with it anyway, because Marie knew that she would never be successful if she felt insecure and self-conscious while joining the company.
