Grado says he worked for TNA for six months before anyone noticed he had not been paid.

Speaking on My World with Jeff Jarrett, the Scottish wrestler said the subject only came up because another wrestler asked.

Ken Anderson came up to me and went, “Hey man, have you been paid? Have you been paid?” And I went, “I’ve never been paid. I’ve been here since January. I’ve not been paid once.

It was June by then. Grado said he did eventually receive back pay, and that at the time he was not especially bothered.

I was having the time of my life. I was still working in the fire brigade back then. So the wrestling for me was going to Orlando, getting the flights paid for me. I couldn’t give a damn if I was getting paid or not, if I’m being honest.

It happened again later, and that time he chased it up with TNA founder Bob Ryder. What arrived in the post was not what he expected.

I open it up, I look at it, and I went, “That doesn’t look right.” TNA Entertainment all written in biro pen. The amount on it, somebody’s signature, and I went, “Alright, okay, that must be just what happens in America.

He took it to his branch of the Bank of Scotland, where cashing TNA’s international cheques was already a slow process.

She looked at me as if I had two heads. She went, “That’s a drawing of a cheque.” To me, I was thinking, maybe this is what happens in America. They sent me a drawing of a cheque. The woman was literally about to call the police on me.

Grado worked for TNA between 2014 and 2018. He placed the story around 2015, near the end of Dixie Carter’s time running the company.
