Former WWE Star Open To 'Nostalgia Act' In AEW

Former WWE star Scotty 2 Hotty has been deliberate about not pushing for a full-time in-ring role in AEW. However, he has already worked dark matches for AEW and stays active backstage as a producer and coach.

During a conversation on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, he was asked whether he’d be open to wrestling on AEW television. Scotty said he isn’t against it, but wants any appearance to feel meaningful rather than routine.

He described feeling protective of what he’s built over his career, careful to clarify he doesn’t see himself as a top star, but genuinely believes what he’s created carries real value that he doesn’t want to dilute by overexposing it.

So I’ve done a couple of dark matches. I’m not against wrestling; I just want it to be the right thing. I’m very, I don’t know if protective’s the right word, but I feel like what I’ve done up to this point. I don’t want to sound like I think I’m this top guy or this mega star, but I feel like what I do have, what I’ve created in the time that I’ve been doing it, is something special.

I don’t want to water that down. I want it to mean something. I almost feel like I’d be best used in a nostalgia role, but in a not used all the time [role]. A mystery opponent, or in the gauntlet battle royal, or just one-offs here and there. I think that’s where I would best be suited. The talent at AEW is so good, and their style is so insane and awesome. I don’t know how I would fit in,” he said.

He would prefer a nostalgia role used sparingly rather than consistently, the kind of spot that fits a mystery opponent reveal or an entrance in a gauntlet battle royal, with occasional one-off appearances rather than a regular spot on the card.

Scotty also recently competed for MLP in September.
