FTR Step Away From AEW For First Break In 12 Years

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

FTR are taking their first real break in over a decade, with Dax Harwood revealing that he and Cash Wheeler have stepped away from wrestling to deal with exhaustion and a stack of nagging injuries.

Harwood laid it out in a statement posted to his Instagram, explaining that the duo have not slowed down since the summer of 2014, across their runs as The Revival, Dawson and Dash, and FTR. The only time off in that stretch came after his bicep tear in 2017.

“Physically & mentally, we both became exhausted,” Harwood wrote, noting that the two were among the few AEW talents working both Collision and Dynamite. He listed three hematomas on his lower back, a second bicep tear he chose not to have surgically repaired, a labrum tear running from his groin to his hip, and a shoulder that needs replacement.

“For the first time in 12 years, we’ve decided to step away and take some time for ourselves & for our families,” he continued. “I’m not sure when we’ll be back, what we’re going to do, how much longer we have, or if we even need to prove anything at all anymore.”

The break follows FTR’s loss to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage in an “I Quit” match at AEW Double or Nothing 2026, where they dropped the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The pair have not appeared on AEW television since.

They are not fully off the grid, though. Harwood confirmed FTR will face The Good Brothers in Corbin, Kentucky on August 22, then challenge for the Undisputed British Tag Team Championship against The Young Guns at RevPro’s Wembley Arena show on August 29.

There is no announced timetable for an AEW return.
