Grand Slam Mexico was one of the biggest gates AEW has ever taken for a television taping, and the attendance figure that came with it has restarted an old argument about Arena México.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the live gate for the August 5th Dynamite special was well over $600,000.
The attendance is where it gets contested. Meltzer says the show sold out with paid attendance closing in on 13,000, and argues that this confirms roughly 13,200 as the building’s real capacity rather than the 16,448 the government officially lists for it.
That number has been floating around all summer. WrestleTix was unable to produce a full estimate before the show because Arena Mexico’s balcony and stands sections were not visible on the seating map, and its last public count sat at 5,970 distributed, with the lower bowl holding 6,071.
The comparison point was AEW’s first Grand Slam Mexico, on June 18 last year, which WrestleTix put at 13,000 distributed. The company’s average paid attendance for 2026 has been running around 3,288.
