Jake Hager’s planned Inside The Ropes appearance in Glasgow is off. The UK spoken-word promoter announced that “An Intimate Afternoon With Jake Hager,” scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at the Classic Grand, has been cancelled.
“Due to circumstances out of our control, we regret to announce that An Intimate Afternoon With Jake Hager has been cancelled,” Inside The Ropes said. “Refunds for all ticket purchases will be issued over the next few working days.”
The promoter didn’t give a specific reason. The cancellation comes days after Hager underwent emergency eye surgery following Power Slap 23.
The Glasgow date was billed as a one-afternoon-only sit-down where the former WWE and AEW star would tell his stories on stage. Standard tickets were £7, with a £28.50 VIP upgrade that included an autograph and a photo. Inside The Ropes previously ran the same format in Glasgow with Jinder Mahal and Rhino.
What Happened At Power Slap 23
Hager faced Johnny Magna on September 17 in Lubbock, Texas. A second-round slap from Magna caught Hager around the left eye, and blood began seeping from it moments later. “He hit me right in the eye,” Hager told officials.
His corner argued the strike should have been ruled a foul. Officials disagreed, and Magna won by referee stoppage.
Dana White addressed the injury on Nina Drama’s stream. “Not good. That’s probably the worst injury we’ve had in the UFC, in Power Slap, anything,” White said. “It looks like his tear duct ruptured.” White added that he wouldn’t allow the broadcast to replay it.
Hager’s partner, Patricia Blackburn, confirmed the surgery in a statement thanking the UFC and Power Slap community. “Jake is currently recovering from an emergency eye surgery,” she said. “We’re taking things one day at a time and keeping the details private.”
It was Hager’s second straight stoppage loss since signing with Power Slap in March. He won his debut against Devin Jenkins before being knocked out by Amanpreet Singh at Power Slap 21 in July.
