Jim Ross Set To Leave Hospital Tuesday

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Jim Ross is heading home. The 74-year-old WWE Hall of Famer and AEW commentator announced he expects to be discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, June 30, capping a stay that ran more than three weeks in Norman, Oklahoma.

Ross shared the news on X Thursday, adding that he had reconnected with longtime friend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

“Going home this Tuesday! Had a great phone visit with @steveaustinBSR today. Biz is picking up!”

Ross had previously revealed he was on “Day 22 in the hospital in Norman,” telling fans he had no plans to slow down. “Don’t count me out just yet. I’m still fighting!”

The exact reason for the hospitalization has not been disclosed publicly, though it followed a fall Ross suffered around AEW Double or Nothing in late May. He recounted missing his flight after being unable to reach his phone to call for help, then returning to his room only for his back to give out as he sat on the edge of the bed. He described it as a horrible experience and noted weakness in his legs afterward.

Conrad Thompson, Ross’s co-host on the Grilling JR podcast, offered a positive read on his condition earlier in the week, saying Ross sounded terrific and was doing physical therapy while fighting to get back to work.

An Ongoing Health Battle

The latest stay is one chapter in several difficult years for Ross on the health front. He underwent colon cancer surgery in May 2025 and later announced he had beaten the disease. He has also dealt with two bouts of skin cancer, hip surgery in 2024, and Bell’s palsy over the course of his career.

His Grilling JR podcast has been on hiatus during the hospitalization, with no new episodes for several weeks. On the most recent episode before the break, Ross said his AEW contract expires this August. He signed a one-year extension in 2025 and indicated he plans to let the situation play out, leaving any decision in Tony Khan’s hands.

Ross continues to call major matches for AEW on a part-time basis. He worked the main event at AEW Double or Nothing 2026 in Glendale, Arizona, before the fall that preceded this hospital stay.
