John Cena and David Harbour are set to star in The Family Disappears, a new comedy from Bad Apples director Jonatan Etzler, according to Deadline.
The film follows an overworked dad who returns from a work trip to find his family has disappeared and a mysterious newcomer has bought and moved into their home. The script is an original from Brendan O’Hare and carries thriller undertones. Fifth Season is the studio behind the film, and production begins in Atlanta, Georgia, on Nov. 10.
Deadline links the premise, thematically, to DTF St. Louis, the HBO dark comedy about suburban dysfunction that just earned Harbour an Emmy. Harbour is a two-time Emmy winner, while Cena is an Emmy nominee.
It’s the latest project for Cena since he stepped away from the ring. Deadline lists Coyote vs. Acme and the Netflix comedy Little Brother among his recent credits, with Matchbox the Movie at Apple and the Netflix comedy One Attempt Remaining, opposite Jennifer Garner, still ahead. Cena recently spoke about why his first run in Hollywood didn’t work, and the film slate suggests the second go-round is a different story.
Meanwhile, the wrestling side of Cena’s calendar hasn’t gone quiet. He says the John Cena Classic will take place in December 2026, with a fan vote deciding the champion.
