Johnny Gargano has finally woken up.
After months of planking on WWE TV, the former NXT Champion finally woke up on tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown. Undisputed Champion CM Punk revived him with an offer for a title match in his hometown of Cleveland, where the episode was taped.
The match that was the main event of the show gave Gargano an opportunity to showcase why he is called Johnny Wrestling, before the inevitable interference from Sami Zayn. Kevin Owens, Gunther, and Finn Balor all made their presence felt at ringside too before Sami took everyone out with the WWE title.
Sami’s action did not prove to be enough, however, as Punk still managed to retain the title even after being hit with the belt. It wasn’t a total loss for Zayn, as The Straight Edge star announced that Sami will be getting the title shot he so desperately wants at next week’s episode of SmackDown from Mexico City.

The broadcast ended with Punk’s announcement, but the show continued. Sami got back in the ring to beat Punk, prompting Cody Rhodes to make the save.
Johnny Gargano then also got back in the ring. He cut a promo for the hometown crowd, thanking Punk, Cody, and his wife Candice LeRae before telling the audience that he is living his dream every day:
