Kenny Omega Speaks After AEW Dynamite (Video)

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Kenny Omega defeated MJF to reclaim the AEW World Championship at Beach Break on July 8, overcoming a stipulation that would have ended his world title dreams forever. With his career hanging in the balance, Omega delivered a One-Winged Angel to overcome the champion in Clearwater, Florida.

The victory ended a 2-0 deficit against MJF in singles competition. Omega had challenged the champion after MJF’s dominant victory over Mark Briscoe on Dynamite the prior week, and MJF set terms that would have catastrophic implications for his challenger.

A loss meant Omega could never challenge for the AEW World Championship again, joining Cody Rhodes and Hangman Adam Page in exile from title contention.

In an exclusive post-show speech captured on YouTube after Dynamite went off the air, Omega addressed the weight of what he had just accomplished. He spoke to the sacrifice required at the highest level of professional wrestling, drawing on his journey since age 14 and the support network that sustained his career.

“There’s an old saying: If anyone could be a professional wrestler, if anybody can be a champion so easily, then, heck, probably everyone would do it. But, the truth is, none of this came easy,” Omega said, reflecting on the support of family, friends, and the fanbase that carried him through his career.

Omega’s victory repositions the landscape heading into AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. Will Ospreay, who won the Owen Cup and earned his title shot in England, made clear his preference is to challenge Omega rather than continue his program with MJF.

The champion positioned the stakes not as a final moment, but as a beginning.

“I may be more near the end than I am the beginning of this journey, but what counts is that you finish hard and that you finish the race. No matter how hard everything is, you finish the race,” Omega said.

At 36 years old, Omega’s second AEW world title reign marks a reclamation moment after months of chase. The Cleaner will next defend at AEW Redemption in Montreal on July 26, though an opponent has not been announced.
