Kenny Omega has reclaimed the AEW World Championship for the first time since November 2021, defeating MJF in a match with a career-defining stipulation hanging over him. The victory on the Beach Break edition of Dynamite on July 8, immediately positions Omega for another dream match.
The stipulation going into the bout stated that if Omega did not beat MJF for the gold, he could never challenge for the AEW World Championship again. Omega had come up short in his two previous title matches against MJF, making this his last chance at the belt, so the stakes could not have been higher.
How Omega Beat MJF At Beach Break
The finish leaned heavily on the All In implications. MJF was preparing to hit Omega with the title belt before referee Bryce Remsburg took it away. The defending champion then reached for his Dynamite Diamond ring as the referee was busy with the belt, only for Ospreay to come out and stop Max.
As Remsburg dealt with the interference, Omega grabbed the title himself and was about to swing when MJF begged him not to use the belt, only to land a low blow and connect with a belt shot himself. With his AEW title future on the line however, Omega kicked out at one. The Cleaner then got the definite upper hand over the champion. Kenny delivered three V-Triggers, and a One Winged Angel for the pin.
Omega vs. Ospreay Set For All In
Wednesday’s win marked Omega’s first-ever victory over the three-time champion, ending MJF’s short reign at just 45 days. MJF had defeated Darby Allin at May’s Double or Nothing to regain the title.
Ospreay’s involvement in the finish tied directly into what comes next. As Owen Hart tournament winner, he is now in line to challenge Omega for the title at All In in August, the promotional graphic for which was shown on screen after the match.
