Mark Briscoe Demands AEW World Title Shot From MJF

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Mark Briscoe wants MJF, and he’s not asking quietly. On the June 3 episode of AEW Dynamite from Richmond, Briscoe cut an emotional promo demanding an AEW World Championship shot, only for MJF to turn him down again later in the night.

The sequence started after MJF retained the title against Rush in a no count-out match. As the champion lined up Rush for a post-match shot with the belt, Briscoe ran in to make the save and ate a low blow for his trouble. The Conglomeration came out to back him up, and Briscoe stayed in the ring to defeat “Blackheart” Lio Rush in the next match.

Then came the promo. Briscoe took MJF back to January 17, 2023, the day his brother Jay Briscoe died. He noted that one day later was his own birthday, and one week after that would have been Jay’s. Instead of celebrating, he made his AEW debut alone, channeling his grief and anger into the work.

Briscoe said he found his joy again with The Conglomeration, but that crossing paths with MJF brought all the rage back. He reminded MJF that he had already pinned him clean in the middle of the ring.

“And Max, I’m calling you out. I’m calling out your manhood! Max, I beat you. You say you’re the best? Prove it!”

He pointed to a Hebrew tattoo on his chest reading “Child of God,” took a shot at MJF’s “Devil” persona, and closed by demanding the champion stop being scared and grant the match.

MJF’s answer came later from a cold tub. Speaking with Renee Paquette, the champion denied Briscoe again, calling him a “bumpkin” and saying the AEW World Title is reserved for top guys and generational talents. He told Briscoe to stop asking because it wasn’t happening.

The exchange keeps Briscoe in the title picture without locking in a match, leaving MJF’s first challenger as a three-time champion still open. Briscoe’s history with MJF, plus the personal weight he brought to the promo, makes him a credible threat whenever AEW decides to pull the trigger.
