Mask vs. Mask continues to receive praise.
The recent AAA match between El Grande Americano and Chad Gable drew the attention of the wrestling world. As a worthy culmination to one of the hottest wrestling programs of all time, the match received universal praise from people in the business and fans alike.
JBL, who fills the role of the English color commentator for the Mexican brand, claimed that AAA is the hottest program in the world right now during a recent interview with Fox News.
He also offered big praise to the Mask vs. Mask match, saying that it reminded him of the WrestleMania encounter between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker:
I felt the same way with Mask vs. Mask. I never thought I’d see another match (like that). I was hoping I would but I don’t know if I’d ever see a match like I saw with Finlay and St. Clair and Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. I’d put that in that category. I just thought it was absolutely incredible. The passion, the emotion that went with it. Everything about it worked.
The WWE Hall of Famer later reflected on working in Mexico early in his career and the passion of fans there. JBL claimed that he has always seen Lucha Libre as a sleeping giant, and he thinks that people are now starting to see how fantastic it is.
