Matt Hardy named former WWE writer Nick Manfredini as his pick to lead TNA creative, reacting to Tommy Dreamer’s departure from the company.
Dreamer announced earlier this week that he and TNA had mutually agreed to part ways, ending his run as one of the key voices on the creative team. Hardy found out live while recording his podcast.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the TNA veteran was asked who he would like to see brought in. He pointed to Manfredini, who worked with him and the late Bray Wyatt in WWE.
“I would bring in Nick, who worked with myself and Bray back in WWE, who was a writer there already,” Hardy said. “Because I felt like he was really layered in the way he could do stuff. He knew how to treat us as special or as different.”
Hardy praised Manfredini’s range, saying he could enhance both supernatural characters like the ones he and Wyatt played and more grounded, straightforward performers.
TNA Creative In Transition
Dreamer’s exit is part of a wider shakeup, with several on-screen and behind-the-scenes names leaving TNA over the past week. PWInsider has reported that Delirious, the former ROH booker whose real name is Hunter Johnston, is expected to take point on creative going forward.
Fightful Select has also reported that former WWE SmackDown co-lead writer Brian “Road Dogg” James was discussed as a possible addition to the team. Hardy indicated he would be open to contributing to TNA creative himself, though he noted that could conflict with his active in-ring role.
