WWE has trademarked a phrase Lola Vice has been using since the day she arrived, and the timing is not subtle.
The company filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday for “Vice City,” covering wrestling exhibitions, live and broadcast performances, merchandise-adjacent fan club services, websites and online newsletters. It is the standard bundle WWE files when it intends to build around a name.
The phrase is already hers. WWE’s own profile has described her as bringing opponents to her turf, Vice City, since her NXT run began.
The filing lands the same week she said goodbye. Vice lost an Underground match to Kendal Grey on Tuesday’s NXT, failing to regain the NXT Women’s Championship she dropped at The Great American Bash in June, then addressed the crowd on her way out.
Bryan Alvarez reported last month that Vice was main roster-bound and headed for SmackDown. That report came after she and Mr. Iguana lost the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship to Laredo Kid and La Hiedra at Verano de Escándalo, which cleared the last title off her plate.
She leaves NXT with a record worth carrying up. Vice won the 2023 Women’s Breakout Tournament, then took the NXT Women’s Championship from Jacy Jayne in a triple threat with Grey at Stand and Deliver in April, becoming the first Cuban-American woman to hold it.
The Underground loss is a neat piece of symmetry. Vice built her reputation in that match type, beating Natalya, Shayna Baszler and Jaida Parker in it before Grey finally took one off her.
Real name Valerie Loureda, she signed with WWE in August 2022 after a tryout during WrestleMania 38 week, arriving from Bellator with a 4-1 MMA record and a fourth-degree Taekwondo black belt.
