Odyssey Jones isn’t ruling out AEW as a possible destination as he continues rebuilding his wrestling career following his departure from WWE.
More than two years after his WWE run ended, Jones has returned to the independent scene and is looking ahead at what could come next. Asked directly about the possibility of eventually joining AEW, the former WWE star stopped short of campaigning for a contract but made it clear he’s open to the idea.
Speaking on the When Wrestling Was Real2Me podcast, Jones said he has followed AEW since its early days and views the company’s continued presence as a positive for professional wrestling.
Odyssey Jones Leaves Door Open To AEW
When asked whether he had considered working for Tony Khan’s promotion, Jones responded:
Um, maybe. I mean, I always was a fan of AEW from when it got established just because, you know, we’re in America, we’re a capitalist country, so they say, and we love competition.
Jones explained that he has been a fan of AEW since the company was established, largely because he believes competition is healthy for the wrestling business.
He also pointed to AEW’s staying power as it heads toward 2027 and noted that several people he knows have worked there. Swerve Strickland was among the names Jones singled out, while he also praised Kenny Omega, MJF and Prince Nana.
We’re in 2026 going into 2027, and they’re still rocking and rolling. You know, I love seeing what they do. I have a lot of friends and people who were out there that worked with the company, that’s with them, that were with them before. Like, you know, Swerve. I love watching Swerve.
Jones made it clear that his interest isn’t simply about individual wrestlers. He believes AEW gives talent another major destination and prevents WWE from having the upper end of the wrestling industry largely to itself.
He referenced WWE’s history of competing against WCW and ECW while arguing that having alternatives benefits both wrestlers and fans.
Monopolies are not good, you know, especially not for the fans, not for the talent in the business.
Jones Hasn’t Met Tony Khan
Despite being receptive to the possibility, Jones indicated there isn’t currently anything concrete happening between himself and AEW.
He said he has never met Tony Khan, although he has heard positive things about the AEW president.
I haven’t met Tony Khan. I hear great things about him.
Jones was released by WWE in September 2024 after domestic violence allegations surfaced. He has disputed those allegations and later pursued legal action related to the matter.
